I mean its still a hit, unless it narratively it needs to be a clean hit and not a blocked/parried blow which our Physical resistance training and martial Arts training would have covered.
They'll only hit us if their combat check is higher than ours. And having -25 in your combat check is a big debuff.

...Actually, @LinkOnScepter , how is the combat handled in the tournament, since thus far combat checks haven't included actual dice rolls, just counting together the points from relevant skills?

Edit.
Also, since it will be a professional tournament, a clean hit is required for it to count. Blocking and parrying are capable tactics.

[X] Accept the position as the Sole Participant. It'll take a lot of hard work, sweat, blood and tears, but you'll manage it. It's the least you could do to represent the Club that's keeping you in this school. (You become the Sole Participant for Raijin Academy in the Tournament. Tournament will begin in three weeks. MMA, Kendo, and Karate must be at least 50)

Could you imagine spending years training, shedding tears and blood, only to get styled on by a guy with three weeks worth of practice. I say let's freaking do it.

A hardcore opponent: Parry this you filthy casual!

Will admit, still working on that. Might have it be Martial Arts Skills vs Resistance Skills.

Also, current Tally.

Think I'll call the vote here.

Adhoc vote count started by LinkOnScepter on May 3, 2021 at 5:28 AM, finished with 55 posts and 30 votes.

Okay, lets get this out of the way. What is your deal? You've been passive aggressively sniping and whinging for days at this point.
I thought I made my opinion very clear when I made my vote, and aside from that I've voiced my differing opinion only once before the vote was over, but to reiterate, I think us choosing to go for all three positions was a bad move.

Aside from taking away the chance for other members of the club to shine who have actually been practicing consistently karate and kendo, which in the end is at worst a small negative consequence, the bigger issue is that it is going to cost us (with the safe assumptions that the other club leaders have a + in their respective skills, thus one AP gets us +25 points in a skill) at minimal 4 AP to get both of those skills at 50 (and judging by the conversations, people want to raise them even more just for the tournament), skills that we're most likely never going to use outside this tournament, with how our mundane fighting styles are Street Fighting and MMA, in which we already have put good amount of points in and they work together. That's 4 AP we could have used to train other important skills Hayato needs, namely Empathy and Speech, which have been lagging behind for weeks with us being busy with other things. And unlike say this tournament, we're not going to be getting any forewarning of when something is going to happen where those skills would be useful, since they've been generally useful all the time. And that's not even going to us starting to expand to other useful skills like Tactics: Alexander (Cleverness), the Perception skills and continue upping Resistance.

I am and wasn't looking for to start a pointless debate and have people gang up on me telling how every opinion I have is wrong, especially now that the vote is over and we have our heading. I have voiced my opinion and intend to not to grumble over it anymore. I don't like the conclusion, but I accept it.

Update:

Me: Alright, this was a pretty swell trip. Gonna hang with the family after I get some rest. Hmm, now that I have a moment and wifi let's check my email-

Job that I've been applying for: You've got the job. Orientation is three days from when you just arrived at your road trip destination.

Me: *Realizing that I not only have to cut my trip short, but that I have to go on the 15 hour drive home early*....shit.

So, yeah. I got that job. On the one hand, I'll be making good money doing it. On the other hand, it'll severely cut down on my freetime.

Congratulations, man! Take it from someone who has spent long periods as either jobless or doing only few hours a week as a part timer, work comes first.

Week 7.5
[X] Help Yamato keep his promise. You've got two more people to meet. Let's g-INTERRUPT!.

"And that's why I probably won't be able to help you with the third guy. Sorry, bro."

You're name is Yamato Nagai, and your brother just informed you that he won't be able to assist you with the final student.

Which, after Hayato explained the context behind the situation, you were not surprised about in the slightest. Your brother choosing to take on such heavy responsibility despite the inherent difficulty of the task matches up with his personality. You would've been more surprised if he had chosen the sensible option of allowing others to handle the three other Martial Arts while he focuses on his specialty.

Unsurprising, but not necessarily ideal.

"I have no issue with you not being able to assist me, Hayato. I will be able to accomplish our mission while you are busy," you clarify for your brother as the three of you march down the empty halls of the school, Hayato on your right and a disguised Yameko on your left. Raijin will resume normal operating hours as of next week. As such, about seven percent of the student body have chosen to refamiliarize themselves with the winding halls of the various campus buildings. The next student you were meant to meet, Nokai Kosake, was one of these people. Thus your reason for being here.

"So, you're not mad?" Hayato asks while leaning down to look you in the eyes.

"Not at all. It is unrealistic to expect you to be with me at every single hour of the day. Your help in these matters is a great boon, however the last thing I would wish is for you to do is place assisting me over your own responsibilities. After all, we are high schoolers. It is in our best interest to live our lives to fullest while this fact is true," you explain to Hayato.

He chuckles with the same trademark smile that he works hard to keep on his face at all times, "Guess I did say that, huh? Thanks, bro."

"It is no trouble. However, I will admit I do wish you would stop taking on task that require such large time investments. I do not wish to see you spreading yourself too thin and being crushed under the weight of your responsibilities."

Hayato closes his eyes and nods his head, "Yeah, yeah, you got a point there. But aren't you the one who promised he would find a way to ensure a girl didn't unfairly get put in jail despite having little to no way to influence the court's decision?"

Your brother is correct. And you have no response to his words. So you don't give one. Not because you are embarrassed but because there is no reason to argue with his words. That you attempt to keep your gaze focused in front of you rather than meet his gaze is because of this fact.

Another chuckle and Hayato stretches his arms towards the ceiling until they pop. Then he asks, "So, care to give me the run down on who we're going after?"

[Barter Business: 26]

"Nokai Kosake. Second son of the head of Pixystems, a software development company. He is known for being extremely lecherous towards females and using his monetary surplus to quiet any dissent. There are numerous rumors of his misdeeds even among the Raijin student body," you speak as if you're reading directly from the student's dossier. Which you are, as you memorized the information you found while studying up on the man.

Your brother scoffs, "So, a regular creep? Is that why Yameko's coming with us?"

"Partially incorrect. Yameko wanted to walk around the school with me, but when I told her about this she insisted on coming."

The disguised kitsune closes her eyes before shaking her head, "While I would prefer spending a relaxing evening with Yamato-sama, I simply can't ignore a man who purportedly treats women in such a way."

"And I have no doubt your skills will be valuable in our endeavors. Thus I give you my thanks in advance, Yameko," you bow to your Partner who giggles at your gratitude. She then moves closer to you, grabs your arm, and begins leaning her head against your shoulder. You make no moves to stop her. She has made a habit of doing this ever since the two of you Bonded. When you asked her for a reason why, she said something about liking the way you "smelled".

You are still uncertain as to what she means by this. As, while you practice good hygiene, there is little you do to make yourself appeal to the olfactory senses of others. Hmm, perhaps you should experiment with different types of shampoo to see if that makes a difference?

Hayato starts to snicker at something you are unaware of. Then he begins laying out his plans for getting his skills up to par before the tournament.

[All Mortal Martial Arts: 3]

While your knowledge on the subject is lackluster, you do promise to do what you can to support your brother. It is only natural. He offers to help you in matters that he has little experience in after all.

Your progress to your destination is stopped when you run into a new student. They purposely place themselves in your path, forcing all three of you to cease all forward movement. The new person turns to stare directly at you.

[Perception Check: People: 3/50: Fail]

The boy eventually speaks, his gaze and tone locked onto you, "Nagai Yamato. We meet at last."

Your brother answers first, "Well, that's quite a way to greet someone. What next? You gonna start talking about how you've been waiting for this day?"

"Not exactly, Nagai Hayato," the new person responds while stepping forward, "But I will say that I have been expecting the three of you. Yes, even you, Hoshino Mizune."

The stranger's gaze locks onto Yameko for a moment. The disguised kitsune remains calm under the piercing stare of the newcomer's sharp black eyes. She nods in acknowledgment of the name but doesn't say anything in reply. This brings the boy's attention back to you.

"You appear to know us," you explain the obvious, gauging how the newcomer will react, "but we do not know you. Would you mind giving us your name?"

"Mitsuhide Furai," the boy gives a light bow as he introduces himself, "And yes, I do know of the three of you. Specifically, how you and Munagi Rishi have been investigating students who happen to be linked to the incident that occurred two weeks ago."

You do not return the glance Hayato sends your way as to not incriminate either of you. Instead you keep your eyes locked on Mitsuhide's, replying to him with the utmost calm, "While I am unsure of what you mean, if we were committing the acts you accuse us of, why exactly would you come to us directly?"

"Because I wish to speak to you regarding the situation. Only you, Naga Yamato," Mitsuhide places his hands in his pockets as he stares you down.

"And why would we let that happen? I mean, no offense, but I don't exactly like the idea of my brother going off with some stranger he just meant who's accusing him of stuff without any proof," Hayato inches his legs apart. Not overtly threatening, but you've been with him long enough to know that stance. As always, he's ready to jump in to defend you if he needs to. Yameko is no different. She currently has one of her hands in a pocket in the side of her skirt. The pocket that you know is filled with her extremely sharp darts.

It is flattering that they are so willing to fight for you. And it is understandable considering Mitsuhide's current actions. However, you do wish they would wait until he actually does something truly worthy of this reaction.

To his credit though, if Mitsuhide sees these threatening actions, he is not effected by them in the slightest. He proceeds to answer Hayato's question, "I will admit, you make a good point. Which is why I took the liberty of convincing Nokai to rescind any plans to affect the trial when it arrives. I even took the time to have him put it in writing. Here you are."

He takes a neatly folded letter out of his pocket and holds it out to you. You gingerly grasp the paper and open it up.

[Trickery: 102]

The moment you open the letter you can tell it is real. There is not a single forgery or trick within the handwriting nor any of the kanji. While you have not seen Nokai's handwriting, you can't find any of the clues that reveal the note is fake.

And the letter says exactly what Mitshude said it would. A sincere apology from Nokai, and a declaration that he would do nothing to affect the trials or cases for the Kirin High student body. You hand it over to both Hayato and Yameko, tell them that you can't find anything that might identify it as a fake, and then hand it back to Mitsuhide. The boy folds the letter back up and places it back in his pocket. He then says in a clear and confident tone, "So, do you believe me now?"

"...Yes," you step forward and give him a thankful bow, "Your assistance is greatly appreciated. When do you wish to speak with me?"

"Next week, once classes are over. Come to the Student Council Office. I will be waiting," he hands you another folded piece of paper, this one with his name and the room number of the Student Council Office, before saying goodbye to the three of you and walking away.

Once he's out of sight you turn to your brother and Yameko. You hold up the small rectangular piece of paper with two fingers, "It seems we have gained another possible ally."

[Mitsuhide Furai has introduced himself! Nokai Kosake no longer a problem! One target left! Yamato has a meeting to attend next week!]

Here it is. Hope you all like it.

Also, here's a little something extra:

Article:
ObserverOfThreads: Of course our brother is going to try to solo a tournament.

CheeseWheels: What did we expect? He's the big muscle. Not big brain.

BurgerTownGirl: I don't know why you're all worried. He's probably got every Martial Art at 100 by this point.

ObserverOfThreads: I'm not worried about him winning. I'm worried about any fuckers trying to trick him! Int is his dump stat! He'll get fooled by the first guy who tells him a sob story!

BurgerTownGirl: That's....a good point. Hey, QM? Can we investigate the people in the tournament?

CheeseWheels: We need to cull all the smart ones so our bro only has to fight fellow meat heads.

Joker90: Guys...what about the Waifus?

ObserverOfThreads: Waifu's can wait. We need to protect bro.
