So, right away I think we want a Defining Enhancement here, unless we're taking Kinslayer. Uttermost seems pretty busted, the fact that it gives ++All stats negates the downside in the short-medium term. Stranglethorn is good as always, and now that we can buy Fierce Quickening the downside is a little easier to work around.

Inheritor I love for giving us a new magic system, but it also gives us mental contamination... The Librarian had some really great spells, but do we want him in our head? We don't even know what Correspondent does. And while saving Vanreir (sort of) does seem ok-ish, and mental contamination from him wouldn't be too bad (we'd likely just gain the desire to protect his sister), his Soul Evocation is both uninteresting to me and also only half of his super-move; the other half was his dad.

Ah, fuck, I'm embarrassed that it fell to Hunger to come up with that (unless I missed it?), but that was amazing to read. Let's never do it again. We were outclassed in every way except soul, and while Hunger couldn't target the separation, he could just fuck everything in the general vicinity. Works with both blade projection and pressure, lol.

Exhaustion was a complete pain in the ass, and for a week? With the potential to become worse than exhaustion? Ewww...

True Maiming isn't... terrible. Well, no, it is. But we could live with it.

Punctured Soul affects everything, and doesn't look horrible until I remembered that .7 wis should be unfun.

I think I might vote for the permanent hit, actually, in the face of the permanence of death.

Kinslayer is amazing, but have you considered Stranglethorn. Uttermost has my uttermost rejection (well, not actually that much), do not be like the Forebear to this degree. Those stats tho.

Who's the Correspondent? The archer? Space clones get? Still, Stranglethorn.

Holy fuck, we didn't die, this bears repeating, we didn't even land a hit until we killed him, after he killed us, we had no business winning this fight, holy fuck.

[X] Punctured Soul

Great fight scene I felt the respect both warriors had for each other. It is a shame they met as enemies instead of as friends.

Hunger seemed to just barely survive this fight so punctured soul seems like a good option.

[X] The Ring of Power - Inheritor
[X] The Unerring

Unless Vaenrir is the Correspondant? Hmm, think he's the unerring. After his father's soul gets ripped away he still is Unerring in his thrusts. Honestly, story plot-hook, cool character. I'm in.

I'd guess it's the Space guy. Correspondence was the sphere which governed spacial relationships in Mage: The Ascension.

Could be wrong!

I can't believe I didn't think of that considering I have been rereading the Mage 20th anniversary recently.

Stranglethorn feels appropriate given the feat we accomplished, as does the feat option or ruinous valor as a result of this sufficiently dramatic fight. I almost can't believe we didn't get rank for it but maybe the feat is instead of that or the injuries we too diluted the feat or something.

True Maiming - Liver wounded on a metaphysical level. Permanently reduce CON and CON improvements by 10% and suffer 400% increased vulnerability to poison and supernatural disease. Suffer severe damage upon strenuous exertion for the next three days.

Is this something we can resolve through Progression within a reasonable timescale of this task or is this an relatively forever thing?

Regardless:

[ ] Feat: Kinslayer

Yet another Heroic Feat to add to our legend, one that comes with +0.7(!!!) Rank. I quite like collecting these and I think this would be a worthwhile get. Would love to pick this up if we go with True Maining.

[ ] Forebear's Blade - Uttermost

Very, very sick but I'm hesitant to give up on mitigating Curses entirely this early in our career.

True Maiming is just a terrible idea. Don't expect it to get healed any time soon, seriously, and if someone happens to use poison or disease as a weapon it means we've lost the fight right there.

I'd go for punctured Soul if you absolutely insist on continuing to fight. It sucks, but it's not a glaring weak point and with enough stat ups the downside can be mitigated pretty well.

Exhaustion means backing off for a bit. Yeah, that's a pain, but if we take Kinslayer as our win for this fight there's not much chance we're going to run into someone who can deal with Hunger and his friends in the time he takes rest up. Plus, gives time to interact more with social links, and runs out the time on Chill of the Grave.

He whose soul contains multitudes, may inherit the legacy of those fallen.

Are you shitting me right now, there was actually another bit of lunatic raving I had in the back of my head that is resurging.

How to make a Hunger:
1. Summon isekai hero.
2-100. Repeat step 1.
101. Put them in a blender.
4: ????
5. Sacrifice your memories of all this, I guess
6. Profit

Wow okay that was pretty epic. Sad that we couldn't talk to Van more, he deserved better. Also our ring finger is invincible apparently?

Devestating complications really do justice to their name. These are all super bad for us. Maybe just suck up being exhausted for a week?

Some of these defining advancement combos would be totally OP as well. Not sure what I want yet since there's no Gisena options.

++All Other Stats means stats not mentioned in the text block, so it doesn't counter its own downside.

Use indestructible ring to survive inescapable attack.

Nameless uses the Necromancer to survive Sky Above Sky! Unless you mean the Aurelia sequence, but that's not indestructibility either.

Who was the Correspondent out of curiosity? One of the Outrider dudes we killed?

Yeah, the archer of gold.

Holy fuck, we didn't die, this bears repeating, we didn't even land a hit until we killed him, after he killed us, we had no business winning this fight, holy fuck.

He never killed Hunger!

that was really satisfying. Not an unparalleled diplomatic success a la Byakuya, but Hunger's relationship with Amarlt is much less intimate than Ishida's with the Captain.

There's a definite first-mover advantage for votes in this quest but I've got to think about the options a little more. Provisional injury vote is for

[X] Punctured Soul

Can we burn part of the gain for momentary Apocryphal mitigation? Cause the rewards aren't gonna be worth it if we enter a death spiral of debuffs and Apocryphal enemies.

Is this something we can resolve through Progression within a reasonable timescale of this task or is this an relatively forever thing?

I'm assuming it's much like the wounds the Tyrant left, so probably resolvable relatively soon if we can complete the ring.

True Maiming is just a terrible idea. Don't expect it to get healed any time soon, seriously, and if someone happens to use poison or disease as a weapon it means we've lost the fight right there.

Why not? It's very similar to our missing arm, lung, and eye. A conceptual wound. Only those were left by something nastier still.

He never killed Hunger!
...What kind of insanity did we roll? A nat 100?

Wow in retrospect this is actually astonishingly absurd. I feel like this makes stranglethorn even more appropriate. Is there a reason we didn't pick up rank from such an intense fight?
