No, it isn't a flip coin. This isn't a tabletop game where we are asked to roll a die to pass a set diffficulty in order to accomplish a single action.
This is a Quest. It means that we players pick actions with consequences. Depending on the combination of these choices, we can achieve different results, ranging from terrible to excellent. Given the difficulty of Vendetta + Sword, we are given less leeway in our choices, meaning that we must think harder before picking a choice in order to maximize its effect.
But that's our choices that dictate life and death, not an arbitrary roll in which there is literally nothing we can do. Let's not pretend the two are similar situations.
To be absolutely clear, it is not overblown. Only take this option if you are comfortable with a serious chance (at least 1 in 3, probably not more than 2 in 3) of the quest ending within the first few fights.
The difference is that any advantages you gain from fanwork or thread participation don't convert into safety if you take the Sword, because the Lesser Remittances that can grant immediate power only do so if your Primary Remittance gives you some to start with! The 33 to 66% lethality ratio is taking the thread's efforts into account already.
Even at best we have 30% chance of dying. No thanks.Hey, I said there was a between 33 and 66% chance of PKing you! Even if it happens, it'll certainly be a memorable experience, and unique too.

I took out the Vendetta part so I'm able to vote for the Vendetta subvote without further strengthening Vendetta. In the event that Vendetta wins, I'd massively prefer the option that has greater survivability than 33 to 66 percent.
Besides, since The King's Scepter is customizable, we can choose a version that returns us to the peak in our native magic system and jailbreaks the limits to allow more growth with it, both vertical and lateral. That could be cool.
Updating with approval vote for Balance.

Thankfully, the Vote Tally appears to count it properly. Everything seems to be in place to me.I don't think the system'll actually count your vote if you do this. Please don't make the job harder for our vote counters!
Is omake power really done by word count? I wasnt under the impression that was the case (and it disadvantages low quantity high effort stuff like poetry or artwork, too...).With the new Doublevoting setup, Omake Power Looks like this. Tally by line will be inserted momentarily now that this is an easier process.
Vendetta: 19066
1794(Orm Embar Total)+5292(Unelemental)+1194(Sickul)+2284(Runeblue360) = 10564 from Scepter
1054(Crimson Moon)+689(Salty)+2177(KidfromPallet)+1463(BrainInAJar)+1873(Birdsie)+1246(Cerillian) = 8502 from Sword
Forsaken Mask: 2494(Maragas)+537(Enohthree)+2125(ConjuredBlade)+695(ImperatorV)+1463(BrainInAJar) = 7314
Balance : 695(ImperatorV)+5292(Unelemental) = 5987
Dread and Dreaming: 2125(ConjuredBlade)+1054(Crimson Moon) = 3179
Accretion: 1794(Orm Embar)+5292(Unelemental)+1463(BrainInAJar)+1194(Sickul)+2284(Runeblue360)+537(Enohthree)
= 12564
Seven Seals: 1054(Crimson Moon)+689(Salty)+2177(KidFromPallet)+2125(ConjuredBlade)+1873(Birdsie)+1246(Cerillian) = 9164

I'm surprised Accretion is so popular given the lack of control you would have. Its passive benefits are broad but building any sort of reliable special effect takes time, experience and notable feats, something that may be less practical to accomplish than simply training / studying or fighting enemies (with a Hunger build). Plus, with both Battle Mastery and Seals you can direct that progress the direction you desire, instead of being forced to simply accept the powers that unfurl. As a Cursebearer you don't lack for other options to establish conceptual primacy in the mid to long term either.
I honestly believe that The King's Scepter better fits this than The Sword That Ends The World. Being weak and scared and facing a high chance of irreparable setbacks isn't a great show and often doesn't lead to any bloody vengeance. That said, if I can't have that, then let us have the greatest show possible. Let him scream and cry and wreak bloody vengeance, a Sword to carve through worlds and take up the Accursed one's Image and Mantle.
Perhaps, but I consider the Praxis to be worth the risk of dying, and regardless of if we succeed or fail it'll still be very interesting in a way I don't except the scepter to be.I honestly believe that The King's Scepter better fits this than The Sword That Ends The World.
