Magical Girl Home Base Quest

[X] Cursed Sword (Will result in a T3 Wand after spending a turn to Research)

While it takes just as much work to make useful as just making a new wand, it's a T3, something otherwise completely unavailable to the local girls.

[X] Yes (Gets Sophia the Mistletoe, a new Magical Girl. May not be able to make rent.)

It'd be cruel of me to say to turn someone away, especially if they're in a bad enough place to be unable to consistently pay even our rather lenient and variable rent.

[X] No, you want to improve your workshop instead.

Gotta uptier that workshop to make tools which maybe don't last like two months at best, also costumes, which are very important for keeping Trompdoy from getting hurt again. But also, tool longevity is very important here, since we have just as much of an action economy as any quest, it's just based on maximizing the amount of time things can keep working without a turn's single action rather than allocating one of several actions to handle something.

Also, Trissa's disappeared. Shit. I hope she's ok wherever she's gotten to. I'd encourage trying to maintain a monopoly on magical girl housing though, so we can make sure that we know where everyone is as long as they're in the area and mostly intact.

This is a Philosopher's Stone. If it grants immortality, turns lead to gold or is made of souls I don't know, but it's 100% a Philosopher's Stone.
Based on the red I want to say it's the one that's made of souls but I have no idea why other than "I can't think of any other red Philosopher's Stones". And I'm not sure if I even remembered the color correctly.

By the way, we should remember that Mistletoe is a Skill type magical girl whose Skill is enough to take on anything in our immediate area, per the QM. She could probably get use out out of a trinket as well as a wand (though her Skill may be a daily IIRC?)

Smiling as it was all put together, you set it in the forge, before sealing it and lighting the fire higher. As you stoked it up, it almost felt like a punch to the gut as the pull of power flew into the furnace. Trying to wrangle the flow was like guiding a hawser with a single thread, so you tried to find a way to focus. Singing generally worked, and with this much of your good stuff on the line, now was not the time to get creative!
I see. We're multiclassing as Artificer and Bard.
Panting, you felt the flow of energy finally cease. Letting the song end, you went over, pulling on thermal-proof leather gloves as you dug the trinket out. How misguiding a name, for such an item of power. The diamond had become clean-shaped and faceted well, bends of the rebar becoming tooling patterns as the sigil-work became an underlayer only visible in the ghost of a reflection. The moonstone was the same size as before, but now cut and polished professionally and set in a bezel of silver, blending into the work of the front and polish-circles. A hidden button served to open the face, and inside the clockwork had become masterfully gilded, the internals ticking with a warm finality. Three buttons hid at the top right of the frame, right where your thumb would rest once you kicked aside the cover.

A workmen's intuition told you this was the true worth of the trinket. The first was a straight spell focus. Anything a magical girl did, up to and including breathing, would be just better. The second, a shielding ability and second sense for danger. No weapon would surprise, nor blade strike true, nor trap detect her. Finally, and most critically, the third button would stop the time of the clock- and thus, the time of the world. Oh, the magical metaphysics would be hell to explain, and the energy cost would be measured in days of nothingness as the trinket prepared to rend the natural order asunder… but once a week? Eight seconds of liberation from the strictest interpretation of reality.
We do damn good work.
"Awhat." You grumbled.
FTFY
"Now, if you want." Homer yelled from the kitchen. You felt zero guilt in making him cook, since A, you were still burnt out from Monday, and B, he was actually pretty good at it. Not better than you, of course, but the girls liked it. The fact he couldn't use his Library while you used your Workshop probably didn't hurt.

"You built another room?" you asked.

"Yeah, and I also got Goodyear to pillage an Army Surplus Store on the south side of town that's been abandoned since for-fucking-ever." Homer said, laughing. "All the furniture is OD Green, but why the hell would I care?"
Homer, you're my new favorite person!
"Trissa disappeared?" you asked.

"Yeah. Hasn't shown up for four days now. I'm getting worried."
Oh no. I really hope she's ok.
It was three in the morning on Saturday that the girls got back in a shot-up old pickup. Hauling two stretchers out of the back and sliding them to a stop in your lobby, you hissed as you saw the patients. Trompdoy had gotten most of her clothes burned off the left side of her body and several hideous-looking burns, while an unknown and black-clad man was bleeding profusely. Bleeding first.
Time to hold our superglue.
Looking Trompdoy in her pain-shocked eyes, you grit your teeth. This was going to be hell to work her through, but you'd do your best. That was all you had left, these days.
We'll take care of our megucas. And at least they all made it out alive.
"To leave a card, and thanks for putting Monroe back together." He said. "My name is Antonio Diovolo, leader of the Gray Skies group. If you're ever looking for work or need to hire some extra help, give us a call. Don't worry about the masquerade, either- everyone knows who we are."
That raises a question, @7734 , we have multiple magical girls running around just in this city, evil monsters, alchemists and witches running around and mundane mercs working probably with both sides.

How is the masquerade still up, why is it still up? Why aren't the magical girls trying to let the world know so that they could have an actual support network for their job and actual military support?
I'd vote for the stone, mainly for the chance of getting a t5 Trinket, but the 50% chance to just get more Demon Stuff is too much for me to want to risk it. The wand is guaranteed as a result and we could definitely use a T3 wand, neither the new girl or Calypso have a wand at all.
he mystery box has a 25% chance of becoming a tier 5 trinket.
More importantly. "25% chance for a T5 Trinket, 50% chance for Demonic Stuff". Which implies there's a 25% chance that something else happens.
Not quite, the Red Stone option results EITHER in an unknown item that gives a 25% change that every item we make in the future will become something unknown, OR a T5 trinket and 50% change of us getting 10 extra demonic stuff.
I do not plan on transitioning to this system at any point in the future.
You could still threadmark it as unofficial spreadsheet in case people find that easier to read.
Also now very curious to see what a T5 item looks like. I'm picturing Noble Phantasms as a ballpark.
Just wait till we get to T7 equipment.

[X] Strange Red Stone, 5x Mundanes (Will result in ???, which will have 25% odds per item of becoming ??? or a T5 Trinket and 50% odds of becoming 10x Demonic Stuff after spending a turn to Research)

[X] Yes (Gets Sophia the Mistletoe, a new Magical Girl. May not be able to make rent.)

[X] No, you want to improve your workshop instead.

Now is a perfect time to improve our workshop, no immediate need for equipment and we have a part timer to clean up the rooms.

Because that question will her answered in Week 13, along with many other questions. Safe to say the masquerade has what we can call varying levels of durability, and for Diovolo he has to work at not stressing it. You, by contrast, actually reinforce the masquerade because you remove oddities. Trying to break the dance, though? That has unpleasant consequences, especially for people who lean into it as much as Diovolo does.

You remember Rhongomyniad? That's about T VII gear can do. Theoretically you could also construct an Item Set that cumulativly gets to T X, but at that point you may actually die in the process of creating it. At that point though you could also have a Meguca who could tell Homura to stop being Satan just because you can't do things with your girlfriend, and it would stick because that would be a relatively even fight.

@7734
The spreadsheet's old Demon Stuff is inconsistent with the net+current.

Item Time until Replacement (by crafting) equals Item Quality times Crafting Roll times the product of Skill Level and Workshop Quality.
Spreadsheet says (and wording implies) it should be times the sum of skill and workshop, not product.

What is our current Skill Level and Workshop Quality/should that be in the spreadsheet?

0_o...

Well, Rhongo is bullshit powerful even as far as noble phantasms go, so I expect a T5 trinket would say least be on the level of some of the low-to-mid range ones.

I've been convinced to step away from the mystery box. And any chance we can take to improve the building we should jump on

Oh my, oh my, oh my. Fantastic.

Generally speaking, the most important pieces of gear an MG can have is a Costume and a Wand--in the sense that having that baseline of offensive and defensive power is critical. A Trinket is a luxury--but as we saw, a good Trinket on a veteran MG is a fucking apocalypse in a can--it's a force multiplier, and if the baseline is already adequate, it'll push them over the top.
I'm not sure I'd agree that it is a luxury. Instead I'd say it has a base importance equal to the other two type of MG gear but that the actual important of each type varies by both the girl and her situation. Like how Trompdoy doesn't have any special durability so would benefit heavily from either a Trinket (magical shielding) or Costume (magical armor) while a Wand wouldn't really help with her squishiness unless it is powerful enough to OHKO her enemies before they can attack.

I also suspect we'll probably be pumping out a lot of Trinkets in these early days due to action economy. Item durability is describes as:
Item Quality x Roll x (Workshop + Skill)
Right now we roll 1d10, have Workshop 0, and Quality 1 in everything except Trinkets which are 3. Skill is unclear but this:
So for this wand, it'll last 1x4x(0+1) weeks, or four weeks. A hypothetical trinket with the same roll would last 3x4x(0+3) weeks, or 36 weeks. It'll also be a pain in the ass to make, but them there's the breaks.
suggests that we have Skill 3 in Trinkets but only Skill 1 in Wands and presumably Costumes and Bombs.

So the expected lifespans for our products are as follows:
  • Trinkets: 1d10 x 9 weeks
  • Wands: 1d10 x 1 weeks
  • Costumes: 1d10 x 1 weeks
  • Bombs: 1d10 x 1 weeks
which means 98% of the time Trinkets will last longer then anything else. 90% of the time they will last at least 8 weeks longer and on average they will last 44 weeks longer.

This is also why upgrading our Workshop is so vitally important. Going from 0 to 1 quite literally doubles the lifespan of all our works. It still isn't great at a minimum of 2 weeks, an average of 10, and a maximum of 20 but it is far better then our current situation.

Also taking in Homer as a tenant is great! He has already built a room for us! Poor Trissa, hope she is okay but it does not sound great. Also 90 weeks on our trinket durability!

Improve workshop should increase length of duration and my own view point is that we make T3 trinkets for all the magical girls first since those last the longest (we can do the cursed sword next turn for a T3 wand since that should last) and that way their equipment does not run out soon

This is from the 'what is your focus' vote, where Trinkets won, all the way back at week 0. You can check what we can currently build in the Spreadsheet, under the 'Workshop' tab. Scroll all the way to the right, it's not immediately visible (at least on my computer).

...On another note, the Spreadsheet now has a category for "Red Bonus', under 'affects' in the Base tab. Anyone want to bet that could have something to do with the mystery stone?

I knew we unlocked Quality (IE: Tier) 3 Trinkets since that is explicitly stated to be the reward:
[] Trinkets. Transforming and accessing mana is hard for Magical Girls, but you can make the tools to fix that. Allows T3 Trinkets
but I can't find anything explicitly saying we have a higher Skill in them aside from that one post I quoted. Or really anything explictly mentioning Medicine Boy's Skill level at crafting.

That is both awesome and very concerning. This is 'strategic asset' levels of utility. This is 'we will go to war for possession and or denial of this resources' territory.

Suppose it is a good thing we will have 20+ magical super soldiers living with us before we become prominent.

It occurres to me that if we've got a set up like this going after only a little over a month of operation, that outside influences are the reason you don't see them much. Like let's be real, our guy is around what, 12 or 13? I don't think he's some kinda genius manager, or a great herder of magical girls. I think that the other groups, the Witches and Alchemists and Demons, like things as they are. So when word gets out about Magical Girl trying to organize, then come down on them like a ton of bricks. Let's hope we can buck that trend and get established enough they can't casually level this place when they find out about it.

While it shouldn't be this turn, since she is still healing and won't get any use out of it, we should definitely make Trompdoy a costume. Seriously she was injured in Week 2 and now again in Week 5. She has some pretty terrible luck.

Alternatively if we could direct our crafting then she did request a new illusion amulet:

which might suggest the reason she keeps getting injured is she is an illusion spec who used to rely on her illusions to keep from getting hit. Still a solid defensive costume is probably the more reliable bet.
My understanding is that we currently can't make costumes until we improve the workshop.
So the expected lifespans for our products are as follows:
  • Trinkets: 1d10 x 9 weeks
  • Wands: 1d10 x 1 weeks
  • Costumes: 1d10 x 1 weeks

which means 98% of the time Trinkets will last longer then anything else. 90% of the time they will last at least 8 weeks longer and on average they will last 44 weeks longer.
What's strange is that Trompdoy's wand had 12 weeks of life. I thought it was supposed to be 4 weeks.

While I really want to make more gear, we should probably improve the workshop first.

[X] 5x Alchemist Bombs (Will result in 5x T2 bombs after spending a turn to Research)
Our girls have very little gear, 5 good bombs very soon is better than one excellent item that will last.

Big one. Calypso basically solo'd the perimeter defense line, so the first thing the alchemists saw was Eowyn conducting a Mounted Dynamic Entry on her noble steed.

I think including this kind of info would really benefit the update. Just a line or two of feedback that one of the things we built did good would be very nice considering the main thing we do in this quest is build stuff. Anyone in the future who just reads the threadmarks will know what the Trinket we build is impressive but won't know if Calypso actually appreciated or got use out of it after we gave it to her.
