Huh. Does Cu even have a weakness that isn't his weird attachment to Geas? I don't know much on British myths other than King Arthur (and thats mostly from Fate and Monty Python) so I'm drawing nothing here.
He's got a geas that means he lose to the sword Caladbolg so long as it's wielded by someone born of Ulster thanks to a promise he made with Fergus.

We've got Caladbolg, we just need to find someone from Ulster to fight him with it.

Apparently the ancient Irish had a taboo against refusing hospitality. It's how Cu got fed dog meat. Likewise, it's how Bres the Beautiful got convinced to drink the poisonous "milk" of 300 wooden cows thanks to Lugh shenanigans.

This presumably works much better when the target isn't berserking.

"... And that's why we need you to find us an Ulster-born swordsman who's used to the Moonlit World. Fae blood optional. We can pay in cash and a night of debauched degenerancy with Medb. Stop looking at me like that, Miss Edelfelt, I don't like selling my nymphomaniac Servant around to some rando either."

... which source was that from again? We need to check the details to see whether just a rando off the street can do it, someone who's a trained swordsman, or if they have to be Ulster Emiya, depending on how BerseCu gets weakened and the prowess said wielder of Caladbolg needs to have to defeat Cu.

It's from Fate/Stay Night's description of Caladbolg II, which is "If the wielder of Caladbolg is Ulster-Born, Cu Chulainn has a duty to be defeated once by this sword due to his geas". That's loosely based on a deal Fergus tried to make with Cu before they fought. Fergus didn't really want a part of the fight for several reasons, partially because Fergus used to be king of Ulster, partially because he basically raised Cu, and partially because it wouldn't be fair because he didn't even have his sword at the time (it was stolen).

Basically Medb called Fergus out and he had to duel Cu. Fergus liked Cu and was also without his sword but he swore to Medb that he would fight for her. So he basically told Cu that he didn't really want to fight and even if it was important to him he wouldn't hurt him and he really liked the guy, so he'd really appreciate it if Cu took a dive so he didn't look like a bitch in front of his waifu and soldiers and the Fergus would return the favor at a time of Cu's choosing. Cu was also not a huge fan of fighting the dude who was like a father to him, so he took the loss. The next time they fought (it was war this time) Cu called in the favor and Fergus withdrew, which basically made his whole army route. Anyway, the logic behind how it is in fate is that since they never got a third battle, the next time they fought it would be Cu's turn to lose again. Either that or the first time didn't count since Fergus didn't have his magical hill decapitating sword.

"It matters not to me, O fostering, for had I a sword in this, it never would cut thee nor be plied on thee. But, by the honour and training I bestowed upon thee and the Ulstermen and Conchobar bestowed, give way before me this day in the presence of the men of Erin!"

Cu responded "Truly I am loathe to do that, to flee before any one man in the Cattle-spoil of Cualnge."

Fergus responded with "Nay then it is not a thing to be taken amiss by then for I in my turn will retreat before thee when thou wilt be covered with wounds and dripping with fire and pierced with holes in the battle of the Tain. And when I alone shall turn in flight before thee, so will all the men of Erin also flee before thee in like manner."

Right, something like that probably needs someone closer to Emiya then, since the story is more about Fergus and Cu as generals giving up the field in the style of medieval warfare than as warriors.

So, according to the description of Caladbolg II given in FSN, apparently the geas applies to just about anyone as long as they where born in Ulster. He has to lose at least once to anyone who's using Caladbolg if the criteria are met.

Is Ferdiad from Ulster by any chance? It pretty much guarantees our death after the deed is done, but giving him Caladbolg might end up being our best shot at killing Cu. Unless the people who made us ended up doing so in Ireland or some shit.

Damn.

I was going to suggest that we form a geas that allows him to use Caladbolg to fight Cu in exchange for not being able to fight us at full strength until some bullshit conditions were met.

Guess we'll have to figure something else out.

[] You tried finding a book...
-[] About Cu Chulainn

With Medb gone, you tried looking through some more books about Irish mythology. You had the broad strokes of it but aside from what you already knew, you weren't that knowledgeable about it. You knew Medb was a massive bitch in it though, so you figured that'll count for something.

But what you truly needed was to find out more about Riastrad, warp spasm, as Medb called it. It referred to the transformation the Child of Light underwent as he went into a battle frenzy, unable to distinguish from friend or foe. That was the most you knew.

You found a couple of books regarding the Hero but nothing concrete. You read about his feats and history, most notably his training under the Witch of Dun Scaith and his battle against Queen Medb of Connacht. You picked out a book which contained most of his legends while also containing his descent into Death.

Hopefully the Death of Cu Chulainn could give you some useful insights. You skimmed through it to find out what you needed. You should borrow this and give it a read later. But you did find some interesting stuff in regards to Caladbolg and Cu Chulainn. Perhaps you should look into that?

Only those born of Ulster wielding Caladbolg would be granted a momentary victory against the child of Light. That would be useful for stopping Berserker but you didn't find anything yet in stopping Riastrad. You did find something in one of his Legends though...

"Clan... Calatin?" You murmured as you read through the passage. A monster which fought Cu Chulainn during the war against Medb... It was strong enough to put him down in a fight and he needed the aid of another

Was that girl hiding one more Noble Phantasm from you? You should go ask her... Shutting the book, you turned to find Rider. Upon exiting the shelves, you noticed Rider sitting on a table, a woman walking away from her as soon as you came into view.

Rider had a serious look and gave the woman a long hard stare before turning to you. Her expression relaxed before cracking a smile.

"Making friends?" You asked as you set down your books.

"Just some lady handing out flyers," Rider replied with a shrug, "What about you? Find anything?"

"Some reading material for tonight," you replied as you looked down at your books, "I haven't found anything to stop the warp spasm but hopefully we can get our source from somewhere."

"Lancer seems ready to go for a beatdown than fighting smart. Though I suppose his Master can handle that part," Medb said as she tapped her cheek, "It took years for me to beat Cu-chan... But we don't have that much time nor the people I can manipulate to beating him into a corner."

"Yes well I have the book depicting his death. Hopefully the things in here will still apply to him even in his warp spasm state," you said as you sat down. You gave her a look and found that she had thoughtful expression, "You all right?"

"I... Yeah. You plan on staying here some more?" Rider asked with a raised eyebrow.

[X] "Hey, Rider. What's the Clan Calatin?"

If I remember correctly, Clan Calatin was FGO Medb's last resort against Chaldea, something about summoning Demon Pillars by using vague connections to her legend.

Then again, it also rings Fate/Strange Fake alarms with Dumas shenanigans. So which is it?

As useful books are, it's always helpful to ask a participant.

Just looked up the Calatin Clan. What the fuck, Irish Mythology?
