No update until probably monday. Moving to Bali and too many errands piled up.

:( I miss y'all.

I'll try though but no promises.

I don't know that I'd want a duoduo on the team long-term, but I'd certainly be down with having on one hand for general purposes. If Silver thinks we can catch and tame one to three by hand here and now over the course of a single day without spending pokeballs, that's a pretty clear indicator that they're not super-high-threat.

[X] Call a planning session, preferably before we get into the field:
-[X] We need to know if either of them has any specific knowledge of Doduo and dodrio, and pool any knowledge you have.
-[X] Find out how Silver was planning to induce compliance in the douo, and whether any precedents for it exist.
-[X] Find out what his basic plan was, and help refine it in light of everyone's pooled knowledge and skills.

Also, totally stoked to have gone with the "let's just trust Silver" plan. Worth it.

[X] Cut straight through the Field for the first flock of Doduo you can find.
-[X] Ask Silver for the lowdown on Doduo and Dodrio. He did do the research before bringing us out here, right?
-[X] In addition to the actual flock, stay on the look-out for Doduo tracks. Try to avoid trails that also contain Dodrio tracks.

Charge!

Uhh, dude, are you drunk?

PKMN riding in general is a thing. Doduo is his pick because it's the most likely option out of everything in SZ South.
I have literally never been drunk in my life, and I'm not sure what would give you that impression.

In any event, prima facie there's a fair bit of tension between "Even if you use a pokeball, if you try to command a pokemon without taming it, it will tear your fucking face off" and "Yeah, we can just catch and tame a Doduo with nothing but a saddle and moxie.".

There's riding pokemon, and then there's riding wild pokemon, which is a substantially different propositon.

I want my flier to be a goddam Charizard. So I will vote :mob: to this.
Why? Not like Doduo actually fly.

that's a pretty clear indicator that they're not super-high-threat.
Or, at least, not so high a threat that our reckless chancer friend doesn't think we have a chance (recklessly).

HELLO BALI.

Bumped into a few aussies on the flight. Makes me miss uni days.
wdango gone to Bali,
Moving like the wind, while saying "sorry",
Writin' about Pokémon, his skills so fleek,
Not sure if I can wait another week!

But yeah, good to hear from you! Hope you're settling in alright :D

They're a flying-type because they're a bird.

They can be taught Fly via TM or HM, but they do not learn it naturally... and no TM/HM training in this world.
Not all flying-type Pokémon are birds, and not all bird Pokémon are flying-types.

As far as I know, Gyarados is the only flying type that hasn't shown some ability to fly. There really isn't any argument for why Dodrio shouldn't be able to fly.

It is explicitly stated in the Pokédex that it can fly, if not somewhat badly. And long legs don't make a bird incapable of flight. Secretary Birds can fly.

As for flightless birds, I believe most of them flew to where they are now, and then evolved away the ability to fly.

E: Sorry wdango, didn't see your post. Consider the matter dropped.

Fun trivia: flying type was originally going to be called bird type, which is why missingno is bird-type.

Also, the hoppip line is another flying type that can't fly.

But yes, fair point on Doduo, I had thought them flightless for some reason.
