Wonder what was so important. The Oni washed their hands of Gensokyo Politics when they moved to the Underground.
Remilia essentially has power that can remake or unmake Gensokyo, as well as the attached dominions in some ways. She can potentially let groups emigrate to suitable locations - and recall that the oni left because humans were too untrustworthy. They seem to like humans, or else they wouldn't have had the 'kidnap->exterminate' cycle that they did.

The meeting Remilia is hosting is much like the one in Symposium, in that it's discussing the potential futures of Gensokyo. It's just more so, because she's not restricting to a handful of religious leaders, she invited pretty much all the major youkai figures that she felt could be trusted and would actually care about the issue.

As far as I see it, it's pretty much an issue of knowldge Flandre has IC but that we did not have.
I … don't see that? I mean, it's more an issue of personality, AFAICT - Flan isn't really someone to back down, and when she's irritated by being interrupted by two different people, neither of whom should be bothering her (Reimu can just ask Remilia, and Remilia should have been watching for and handling situations like Suika's on her own) then she isn't going to take someone second-guessing her (Sakuya) very well. It's not caring about possible repercussions (which is a fairly established character trait for her, I think).

 I don't know. Like I said, I just find a unanimous decision to get involved in Hostess Duties when everyone rejected Hostess Duties to be … dissonant, I guess?

Anyway, votes are not locked.

@Entropy Judge - Suika came to us, we dealt with it. It's not dissonant, it's stepping up to bat. We weren't seeking to actively detect and smother trouble to play hostess, but if guests come to us with concerns we aren't going to brush them off. Any shade Remi casts on us about this can be turned around in turn about her failing to catch it before it reached us.

Honestly? Faux pas aside? His people started shit, we went to him and gave him the opportunity to clean up as he saw fit. It was mildly humiliating, yes, but it wasn't Flan's fault. While Remila would have likely timed it better, I can see her doing virtually the same thing if she was operating on equal information.

Regardless, Suika Owes Us One. We should ask her to act as an open bar for guests~

Pretty much this yeah. If they didn't come to us and didn't start a broader fuss we'd probably just ignore it.
Once they brought the matter to us, of course flan deals with it in the most expedient way visible?

Party VI
[X] Just sit down for a while.

You try to smile back at Ilya and Lulu, then just shake your head. "I'll … I'll be fine. I just need to sit down for a bit." You look down at Suika, aware of Reimu's presence once more - was she here the whole time? Suika finally looks a little relaxed and smiles shakily.

"Thank you. Um, if there's anything …." She trails off as you mutely shake your head and sink into the chair next to her. "Uh, later, then. We can talk later, right?" You nod and she darts off the chair; you close your eyes and hear Reimu's protests fade as the oni drags her away. Ilya and Lulu sit next to you again, pulling their chairs in closer so they can support you. Nanoha, Fate, and Vita walk up as Zest, Megane, and Agito approach, and you can hear Megane's look of disapproval as Vita starts to say something. Nanoha sits down and you open your eyes.

"… That was an oni, wasn't it? Are they common here?" You stare at her for a moment, not sure if she's trying to make conversation just to draw you out, or if she's trying to build up to asking what just happened … but it seems like she's really just curious. Ilya shakes her head.

"Oni don't live in Gensokyo, except that one that looks like a little girl. They don't seem to have liked the way Gensokyo was becoming, so they left." A plate settles on the table in front of you, and you look at the arm reaching over your shoulder.

"Um, I … I thought you might like some dessert …." You look at the cake and nod; as you reach for it, you notice Fate looking around the room curiously. You take a bite - chocolate, vanilla, and the barest hint of garlic - and look through your clone's eyes. People aren't watching you; they aren't paying attention to you. Are they for some reason afraid of making a scene? Have they forgotten, somehow? Surely they can't think that that was normal? But … people continue as if nothing had happened. You set the half-eaten cake down and close your eyes again. You just may have caused an incident, and people are ignoring you.

"That was very well handled, Flan." You almost recoil from the voice, and your eyes open slightly to look at your sister's simulacrum. She hesitates and looks at your friends and guests, then nods, a slightly hurt expression on her face. "… I'm sorry you had to get involved in the first place. Will you forgive us?" Her eyes shift to her left, and your clone can see that her guest is on the wall to the copy's right, so … assuming she's asking you to forgive her and Remilia, and not the two of them, you nod slightly and she relaxes. "Thank you, Flan. Please, I hope you enjoy the rest of your night." She curtsies and withdraws, wings furling against her back. You look down at your hands - when was the last time your sister called you that? Even if there weren't certain small changes in the way she moves and speaks, that is evidence enough that it's not your sister. … Of course, now that you remember it, Patchouli was involved in that, too, wasn't she?

"Flan?" You twitch at Ilya's gentle voice, and Lulu wraps her arms around you. "Flan, don't worry about us. If you need to be alone, we'll make sure no one bothers you; if you want to cry, we'll listen and hold you. You've done that for us - you've done more for us. This isn't a party for everyone else, or for us - it's for you. This is your party, and we're just your guests. If you're not enjoying yourself, there's no point." You feel Lulu nodding, and Ilya leans forward to rest her head against your shoulder. Your wings loop back to grasp Lulu as your arms embrace Ilya.

"… Thank you. I … I really will be fine. I just need to sit here for a while." Nods and muffled affirmatives answer you and you close your eyes. You're vaguely aware of conversation around you. You just need to bury your worries for now - you can't run away, not after facing down an oni chieftain! Even this display is too much, really, but … you didn't scream or yell, you didn't get violent. You need to do something ….

You lose track of time, of your surroundings - but eventually you open your eyes. Illyasviel sits across the table, a wide grin on her face as she chatters to Tohsaka. Ilya and Lulu are still holding on to you, but Megane and Zest are - the concert, sitting together, listening to the Prismrivers play something upbeat. Illya and Miyu, along with her bodyguards, are watching a danmaku duel - the simulacrum's guest seems to be maintaining the safety barrier. Deis, interestingly enough, is talking to the twins in the entry hall - teasing them, probably, based on their red faces and the growing irritation on their dates'. Nanoha is talking with Aya - or, rather, with the other tengu, who keeps looking at the third tengu, who is on a landing of the staircase, leaning against the railing. He seems to be watching Fate talk to Verossa; the inspector looks quite uncomfortable, although whether that's because he doesn't want to talk to Fate or because one of the cat youkai is almost literally hanging from his neck, you can't tell. Oddly, Agito and Vita seem to be having a serious discussion away from everyone else - Vita even set her tribble on the table, although she keeps stroking it from time to time. Sella, Leysritt, and Satsuki are all waiting against the wall - normally, too far from you to be proper, but this is an abnormal situation …. Suika is in the entry hall, talking resignedly with another female oni, although this one actually looks like she could take Meiling in a fight. Of course, appearances don't count for much ….

"Feel better?" You look down at Ilya and nod; Lulu squeezes you gently before releasing you, and you help Ilya sit back up.

"Yes. I'm sorry for -" Ilya pokes both your cheeks and pouts, cheeks puffed up like a squirrel, and you laugh quietly. "… Thank you. Both of you."

"Friends help each other," Lulu says from behind you, and you turn so you don't have your back to either of them.

"… Mm, it seems like there's a spell card duel going on right now," you say - but while Lulu's eyes widen in excitement, Ilya looks back toward her maids. You frown at her and she shakes her head.

"Someone came with a note for you a couple minutes ago - a human maid." Your frown deepens as Sella hands you a simple envelope. Who would have a human maid, and why would she want to talk to you? You open the envelope and read the note - a simple request to meet with you in the garden. Unsigned, for some reason. You sigh and refold the note. "If there's something you want to do, I can take Lulu to the spell card arena." You fix Ilya with a stern look, but she returns it with an innocent expression - much too innocent. She knows something ….

"We could go together," Lulu says, and you nod. "I'd rather be with Flan - not that I don't think you'd do a good job explaining what's going on, Ilya, but -" She breaks off as Ilya nods, smiling.

"I know, and I understand." She turns a far-too-guileless look on you. "What do you think, Flan?"

What do you do?

[ ] Go meet the mysterious maid.
- [ ] Alone.
- [ ] With Lulu and Ilya.

[ ] Go watch a few spell card duels.

Great. We missed good parts and may miss more if we go meet with whoever sent that letter.

If there's one thing I would hate to miss, it's Marisa showing off her Master Spark to Nanoha.

Ilya seems to know who that is, however. I think. She does seem to know something.

Edit: ...It can't be Kohaku or Hisui, right? How would they even be here?

Can't really decide... it would be so much easier if we could split our awareness evenly between us and a clone.

Well, unless someone has a write-in idea, I'll go with
[X] Go meet the mysterious maid.

Party VII - Old Friends(?)
[X] Go meet the mysterious maid.
- [X] With Lulu and Ilya

You look back at Ilya, wondering what's going through her head. She has to know something about whoever left the note … maybe if you asked her to describe the maid, and only went if it looked like someone interesting? After all, if whoever sent the note couldn't even be bothered to leave their name. Or maybe you should just send a clone to see who it is? You shake your head and turn to Lulu. "You don't mind going with me to see who it is?" She smiles and shakes her head.

"Nope! I'm a bit curious, too, actually." You nod and take a breath. Ilya must have signaled the servants, however, because your chair slides out before you can hop off, and Lulu squeaks as her chair does the same. You look back at Satsuki and giggle as she blushes, then pat her head.

"Thank you, Satsuki. Would you rather stay here and meet people, or do you want to come with me?" She looks around nervously.

"Um, I'd be - I should be with you, Flandre-sama." Maybe if she could wear something besides her uniform, she'd be more relaxed? You'll have to talk to Remilia about that sometime - after all, since this isn't a permanent position for her, Satsuki will need to learn how to act in society, as well …. You smile warmly at her.

"Alright, Satsuki. Then …." You glance at Tohsaka, and she waves disinterestedly at you without interrupting her talk with Illyasviel - discussing the Grail War with her, if what you can hear is accurate. Well, no sense interrupting them if they don't want to come. "Shall we go?" Ilya and Lulu follow your lead as you walk through the ballroom to one of the side doors. Normally locked during functions like this - or else just non-existent - it opens at your touch and the six of you move through the mansion to a side exit. The night is cool and dark, and you feel yourself relax; on Mid-Childa and on Earth, humans were banishing the night with their electric lights, so even far away from the city at Long Arch, it never got really dark. Here, through, with the mansion blocking the festival atmosphere, you can feel something like real, deep darkness.

"… What if they're in the gardens on the other side?" You give Ilya a look and she chuckles.

"I can use my Insekts to look for them," Lulu suggests, but you shake your head.

"I don't mind spending a bit more time alone with you two," you say. They immediately step closer and snuggle a bit more; you double-check with your clones, but, yes, Aya and her reporter friend are both still inside. You're pretty sure Aya wouldn't do anything stupid - or, at least wouldn't publish anything stupid - but you're not at all confident about the other one. If Remilia required her to be accompanied by Aya, then she either did something really bad, or she refused to learn. Not that you would have let eavesdroppers stop you from hugging your friends closer, but it's good to make sure that you don't have to deal with unpleasantness. You walk through the gardens, keeping an eye out for anyone else; you do see two of Remilia's guests, the bald man and the boy who looks related to him, but they don't have a maid with them, so you leave them to their solitude. Then you do see someone, and you nearly stumble. Lulu inhales sharply as well as she looks at the entrance to the hedge maze.

"Um, before you go …." Ilya sounds uncharacteristically nervous, and you tear your eyes away from the very familiar blue-haired girl dressed as a maid to look at her. "They … they got here a few days ago, I think. I wasn't supposed to know, but - I snuck into the kitchen for a snack, and I met … Mami and Kyouko, making something. Remilia wasn't very happy when she found out, and she asked me to not say anything." Well, that explains your sister's apology when Homura failed to arrive with everyone else, at least. Ilya looks unhappy about something else … and you're pretty sure that Mami died the last time you were in Misaki, so if she's here …. Lulu's excitement fades, too, and when you look over at Sayaka, she doesn't seem to have recognized you specifically so much as figured out who you are.

"… I'll wait here, with Ilya," Lulu says, and she smiles apologetically. "I don't want to say something I shouldn't." You nod and give her a hug, then give Ilya a hug; both girls relax, and after a smile at Satsuki, you walk toward the hedge maze. Sayaka straightens slightly as you approach and shifts her position ever so slightly - not enough to block the entrance, but enough to show that she could. You stop in front of her and she frowns.

"Ah, you're Flandre-san, right?" You nod.

"I am. Are you the person who wrote this note?" She blinks, momentarily confused, and you show her the letter. She sighs.

"I told her to remember to sign her name …." Her hands go to her mouth before the frown returns to her face. "Listen, I know you and Homura know each other, but she's having a really hard time right now, so please don't do anything upsetting, okay?" You can't help but wonder what they do know about your and Homura's relationship … but it's not too relevant right now. You nod.

"I'll try," you say, and after a moment Sayaka steps completely out of the way. "That maid uniform looks good on you, by the way." Her face turns bright red, and as you giggle and head into the hedge maze, you notice a silver ring on her finger. Something your sister gave her for the duration of the stay? You shrug it off and move through the maze. You haven't been in it very many times, but it's not particularly complicated or large, so it's not long before you hear cutesy humming - and not in Homura's voice. You cough loudly enough to be heard when you see the entrance to the center of the maze, and a few seconds later you walk through it. Homura and Madoka both look up at you, and while Madoka is wearing a fluffy white dress that suits her quite well, the black dress that Homura is wearing is the sort that Deis would like and doesn't fit her at all. Madoka hugs Homura closer to her and helps her sit up straight. "Homura, Madoka. Good evening." Madoka's eyes widen for a moment.

"Eh? How do - oh, right. Hehe. Of course you'd know who I am, since your sister let us come with Homura-chan." She rubs her head self-consciously. "Um, good evening, Flandre-san." Homura looks at you with hollow eyes.

"Flandre, you came. Thank you. I - I wanted to thank you. I … I don't know why I never thought of it, but … your idea worked. Thank you. I …." She trails off, and her right hand relaxes and falls from the necklace she's wearing, revealing a cracked and tarnished ring. More importantly, however, some kind of film covers her eyes, and she starts shuddering and gasping for breath. Your eyes narrow.

"Homura-chan!" Madoka looks around her, then picks up a Grief Seed that was sitting next to them on the bench, then holds it up to a Soul Gem - and as the roiling oily darkness recedes it reveals a warmer purple color. Homura calms down and sags toward Madoka, who drops the Grief Seed in the grass to catch her. "There, there, Homura-chan. See, everything's fine. You're doing better, aren't you? Kyouko-san said so, too, remember?" She hold Homura and strokes her hair, and after a few seconds, Homura's arms wrap around her waist and squeeze tightly enough to elicit a gasp from Madoka - and then Homura starts crying, wailing in pain and grief. Madoka keeps smiling and stroking Homura's hair.

What do you do?

[ ] Stay a while, see how much Homura recovers.
- [ ] Ask if she's fine to see Lulu and Ilya.

[ ] Apologize for the intrusion and withdraw.
- [ ] Ask if she wants to be introduced to anyone.

[ ] She probably shouldn't be left alone, and she is dressed up. Bring them with you.

[ ] Other?

DM Note: Yes, if you'd chosen to go to the kitchen, either in place of the bath or after it, you would have met Mami and Kyouko. Also, leaving from here will go to the danmaku area unless someone writes-in.

Looks like Madokami and Homucifer huh?

[X] Stay a while, see how much Homura recovers.

Tactful!
Also how did SAYAKA wind up as a maid I wonder.

It's been long enough I don't remember what our suggestion was.

I did some digging, and this here appears to be the event in question:

"You're a perfect example of what I was talking about, you know." Her head jerks up again, eyes wide, and you find yourself sure she wasn't talking to you. "All you magicians, really - changing yourselves because you want to be something different, because you weren't satisfied with your old selves. But you're perfect, because you're practically a real youkai yourself, without even becoming a Witch. You have a Purpose, something youkai have but humans lack. You're even as conservative and hidebound as most youkai, sticking with what you know even when it doesn't work well, and becoming confused when your normal method of dealing with a problem doesn't work. And you hardly consider yourself human, too. True, the degree to which you've changed is enormous compared to what most people achieve, but wouldn't you agree that you're a perfect example?" She stares blankly at you for a moment, then her eyes light up and she grins.

"I suppose you're right, but it doesn't matter. I couldn't save her this time, but … you've shown me something I can do. Maybe not next time, or the time after that, but I know how, now." She giggles eerily, and you tilt your head. Her grin transforms into a smile, and she sweeps up the case, pirouettes, then darts forward and caresses your cheek. "There, there, Flandre, don't worry, I'm alright. Enjoy yourself tonight!" She spins away from you and keeps walking toward her home, an odd spring in her step. You frown; she did that weird grinning again, and you're not sure …. Oh. You giggle and resume walking, but now you aren't sure what to do. Go back to the church and see Lutecia? Have some fun on your own, especially since Homura gave you permission? So … few choices, really. Your wings droop. Not even any Witches around, probably, although whether it's simply a fact of life in this world, or if it's because of Kyouko's little army, you aren't sure. Certainly, despite some peoples' desire to blame everything that goes wrong on you, there are some things you can't be held accountable for.

So...it's not entirely clear after looking, either. But I'm guessing that we inspired her to deliberately become Homucifer. I'm not sure how to interpret her current state alongside Madoka, especially since a Grief Seed is still involved, so maybe it's a partial transformation that gives the both of them the best of both worlds? Inhuman enough to have the power to do what they need to, but human enough to have an anchor in the world?

edit: ninja'd, probably.

Well, ultimately, I think getting a Madoka back and then asking her to die for another Madoka to then perform the mercy kill probably fucked with her sanity a bit.

Yaaay. She came after all.
