Why do you rule out Frost Giants? Odin isn't around to get rid of them after all.

Unlike some other quests I've read over the years, don't expect a hippy commune when doubling down on things like unity. Whatever you pick, you will have to deal with the less nice aspects of the creed.

I chose Unity because there is IC fear of a schism, what I want is Perseverance.

Of course, but i want to try a more Individualistic culture than the usual communal and UNITY one.
Civil Wars sound scary, but those are the nature of Civilizations this early on.

True, but i feel the risk is worth it, The Elders are losing influence and power so the schism might be lessened still
Agreed with @Deliste. Unity seems far more vital since the tribe is in danger of fracturing.
Eh at this point i am aiming more for a fun route than the optimal route, as long as we live then a fracture we can deal with. If we can just pass Winter we'll be ok.

Our desperation gambit only just saved us from starvation, the only reason we aren't freezing to death is because our gamble paid off the turn before that...optimal is survival right now.

Mind you that Perseverance is also giving a bonus to stability checks, like those rolled when people try to split a tribe. It's also conceptually opposed to ditching the valley just because of a little murder-winter.

The effects of cultural ideas are pretty far-reaching in that regard.

Maybe, but I don't really want to play that culture, it was fun the first few times but not as much anymore.
Though i'd be willing to switch to perseverance.

Unity and glory seem too extreme for me.
I like my differences, but don't want to drown in warring factions.

I feel like Courage will be far more useful in the immediate term, with our small groups of hunters engaging larger parties of wild animals. I also feel as though it will become the least toxic long term, as "doing something even if you're scared to" generally has more positive connotations than Perseverance (face all challenges head on and grow stronger from it, regardless of losses) Glory (take great challenges because you want to be remembered in history) or Unity (the People must work together for the good of the Tribe)

I'm torn between investigating and just hunting, since the hunters might have agitated something that would destroy us if we come into the area without investigating it.

The Elder's influence will fade anyway.

So far they have not done as much visible work in saving our bacon as other groups and they are those who follow our new ways the least.
They will fade anyway, no matter if some leave or not and will only regain importance once some of the current heroes of our time become Elders themselves and can remind the people how they kept the tribe alive those hard first years.

The Elders won't leave on their own if they do go.

Planning for something to work with a trait that we don't have and might not get seems like putting the cart before the horse a little.
We might not get the chance to gain another trait for quite awhile, so I'm looking at these traits based solely on their own merits.

I thought we were discussing long term so I thought I'd give a long term solution to the problems with Perseverance.
 
Almost so.

They are lowon influence and unless they pull some miracle will go down further during the winter while others keep them alive.

Family units and I just don't believe they're dumb enough to leave alone and die, if they plan to leave they have a plan and that will involve young useful people to provide food and reproduction.
