Of all the ideals here, Perseverance is the one most likely to lead to us sticking it out in our little mountain valley. If things go bad here, the tribe may or may not split but will likely leave the winter deathtrap. I would rather see us stay here where we already have a wattle foundation set up and have scouting done.

Perseverance and eventual World is Our Teacher would make for a nice combo. Perhaps we could turn all these mountains into Machu Pichu in the future, with terrace farms and mountain trail runners.

Given our geography, Unity is going to be very handy here, as once we figure out how to agriculture this place can feed a pretty dense population.
I'm not sure why people are helpfully screwing up the tally with the - though

[X] [Hunting Party] Do nothing. Either weather or beasts must have claimed them and the tribe can't waste resources on finding the dead.

Perseverance to me seems an excellent choice for us. It has a nice bonus to Stability Checks, which we badly need, but the big benefit it provides is that it encourages the society to strive to overcome challenges. Obviously this kind of determination is always great for a society in general but it's especially helpful right now as a lot of people, especially the Elders, want to give up on the Valley and go back to what they know. Perseverance makes it more likely for the Tribe to stick with the decisions they make and work to overcome challenges that crop up, rather than giving up in the face of hardship but staying together as they would with Unity.

As an extra bonus, while it doesn't make Great People more likely, it also doesn't make them less likely. Great People can have a massive impact on a society at an early stage so I'd rather not lessen our chances of getting them.

Other hunter reported even stranger things. They spoke of shapes moving among the drifts that were neither man nor any beast they had ever seen. Their coats were purest white and so long that it dragged in the snow. They moved faster through the snow than even the goats. Never did someone see them up close, only glimpses from afar, and when a hunter would climb the mountains to look for their trails, he would find nothing but pristine snow in their wake.
Yet one group had vanished without a trace, despite them only venturing to a well known meadow near the mountains where nothing but stray goats had been spotted lately. Some ventured that they might have been surprised by harsh weather in that part of the valley, but the wind and snow had been rather light on that day. Others thought that one of the roiling masses of snow that sometimes fell from the mountains had claimed them, yet none had heard something like that either. A few even whispered about the snow demons, who had not been spotted since the clouds had swallowed the mountains, had come down and claimed them. The matter worried a few, especially of course the kin of those that had disappeared.
@Azel, did the hunter who saw these things have any description other than "they had long white fur"?

Perseverance can get us to stay here long enough for that.

Agriculture is far far away, especially since the vally is mostly forest.
Either of Perserverence and Unity can do it due to the Stability roll bonus, most people are willing to follow the council consensus.
Perserverence backfire comes when we try to transition to other methods.
Unity backfire comes when we expand beyond this nook and find it hard to actually live up to the ideal.

But a forested river valley is like the best place to start agriculture short of floodplains. Better in some ways because nobody can come take your stuff.

Or when we grow. Unity gets harder the more people we are.
Once we outgrow the good old monkeysphere it's gonna be hard.

Besides, I really dislike the "fewer great personalities" penalty.
I don't know howmuch that will harm us in story, but it will likely make things less fun to read for me.

They only saw them on mostly clear days from very far away, so no.
Mostly clear days? In that case it's definitely not a Brocken Spectre.
A Brocken spectre (German: Brockengespenst), also called Brocken bow or mountain spectre, is the magnified (and apparently enormous) shadow of an observer cast upon clouds opposite of the Sun's direction.
You really did put Yetis or Frost Giants in here, didn't you?

On the bright side they should be fun to fight.

When you posted a name underlayed with a link, I immediately thought you would link me to the SRD.
:rofl::rofl::rofl:
If you threw in a couple genuine D&D monsters here, albeit just the dumb animals, I certainly wouldn't complain. So long as we don't succumb to cannibalism and starvation and can eventually go monster hunting.

I don't actually think this is correct. The way Perseverance is worded I don't see any reason why it would stop us from transitioning to a more agriculture-based society in the future.
- stability loss when radically changing a started course of action due to difficulties
This, in particular, suggests to me that it more stops us from giving up on actions and decisions that the tribe have made. For example, if we already had the Perseverance Ideal before we voted to make a permanent settlement, and then tried to give up and become wanderers again because the Tribe couldn't figure out woodworking and so couldn't make longer-term structures we'd suffer a stability loss.

But when it comes to agriculture, that's unlikely to be the Tribe giving up on hunting and gathering because it becomes too difficult. It's much more likely to be a decision initially taken to augment our food income, with hunting slowly falling out of favour as it's seen to be less efficient. If anything Perseverance is more likely to stop the tribe giving up on farming once the decision is taken to start it.
