The Amber Age: Pantheon Edition (Collaborative)

Would that be so bad?

With the previous AA quests as examples? SV does not enjoy being the subordinate. Loses some agency, and depending on the exact type of spirit you're playing it will clash horribly with the playstyle.

As a subordinate we can do thing of our own will, but if the boss asks us to say make something for them? Or hold onto a specific soul? Or stave off death for a specific person? Even if we as players don't like it we'd have to do it.

I just want to be the warlock king of the underworld and brutally annihilate foes. So what if we got to do something for the guy who gets to deal with all the rulership? We got monsters to make and rituals to conjure.

Before he dies though, and if we wanna remain in control we'd need some of the spirit traits. Spirit of kings and humanity or something. Otherwise, with the guys inherent qualities? He'd damn near instantly roll us into being his subordinate.
Depends on if we want to rule the mortals. Because the King trait likely would provoke conflict as he Must be King.
Noting he'd roll us regardless, we don't have any Lordship, so the King traits are relatively mediocre for us.

Anyways current forks:
-Wise One - High yield, we have two Loremaker traits to further boost our skill, and a +60% gain is pretty crazy this early on. Basically, instead of ruling, we tell the King whats a good idea.

-Elemental Power/Titan - Good yield, due to being there early and having a strong connection to elements as a Genius Loci, we could corner the elemental powers market early by dedicating to it.
-Power of Magic - Good yield, breaking into magic blind is pretty hard so we got a head start. Going to have few gains for a while though. But early magic pigment helps.

-Warrior/Monster - Poor yield. Considering we have zero destruction skills we'd basically be fighting as a dumb monster with raw physical mass and natural weapons.
-King - Poor yield. Zero Lordship/social skills to boost. We may be the god of kings, but when he ascends we'd be pretty much forced to contest for the title. And be horribly krumped.

Oh and @Pyro Hawk you need to target the Astral Examination
I recommend this:
Your sense of the world has expanded immensely, and... wait... What is that... thing, to the north?
The thing to the north.

By which you mean, SV makes horribly stupid decisions whenever the least threat to agency is even perceived.

And it's not even true; there's more than a few quests on SV where the main character is a subordinate which have succeeded just fine. It's just a subgroup of SV that flips out on the subject. (Admittedly, a subgroup with significant presence in Amber Age games, historically...)

I'd personally prefer one of these three, with a flavor of All the Babies since I'm on the Monster Maker Train, because after my previous experiences I want to try not being the guy constantly on fire due to subordinates.

River Mother and Fire Thief were not fun as bosses, but yeah there are quests that have SV as a subordinate and work well.

That's all well and good, but it's really limiting to him. He will probably ascend upon death, so if we don't want him as part of the pantheon we could offer to eat his soul so he can be a part of us forever.

The ritual death thing should be if we want him as part of our pantheon. He can be the diplomat spirit.

Yeah, but think of all the Faith and Legend we could get if he ascended after the ceremony, where it could be said we literally made him into the pantheon's god king.

All the babies can happen on any route, so I'm not too worried about that. Practically inevitable to make some crimes against nature.

We actually do quite well as a vassal in many quests.
The flip out is an interesting phenomena of 'reality editing' where a lesser offense is conflated with a greater offense, the discussion is about how bad the greater offense is, before the thread convinces themselves that the greater offense happened, because otherwise why would everyone be talking about that?
This then goes on, because X party commits Greater Offense, they must be a terrible entity and their other actions viewed in the light of a terrible entity. This means that borderline or ambigious actions are interpreted as hostile or threatening ones.

To compound this, cooler heads often prevail, leaving the most agitated members feeling like their concerns are being disregarded. This leads to frequent choices between Extreme retaliation on one pole, and avoiding the problem on the other.
Which then is the opening for an emotionally driven, disproportionate response breaking out once a scenario comes where the median voters shift to the extreme in the interests of getting anything done at all.

Main causes:
-Application of modern standards to mythological/ancient standards
-Player Character is center of the world
-Selective recall

[X] Plan : Revelations
[X] Preside over the Death Rites at [Kut] (Unlocked by Settlement DOGMA/Ritualist Skill) (Generates DE): Free
[X] Inspire in Influence (Unlocked by Inspire) (Generates Faith progress): 3 DE
-[X] Inspire to Speak Stories in [Kut] (Unlocked by Loremaker) (Generates ???)

Let us make a prophet out of this God king.
The right stories by the right people have made and unmade empires, they have outlived entire civilisations, and remained a constant in peoples mind throughout entire epochs.

No better time exists to make a creed out of a collection of rites.

Edit: while this does not directly command the God king, inspire is likely to target those who are already capable of greatness rather than instill mastery into the mundane.
And the new King is already a master of words and presence, non, especially he, would mistake the sudden unearthly blessings upon him for anything but divine favour, and would likely reciprocate this blessing of the dead.
Not to mention that wordsmiths where ever the harbingers of changes of scale when nudged by divinities.

Look, I know you guys want to Inspire Goldie, but think about it. What if we do something else instead? What if we, for example went into torpor for Ashform, woke up with our newfound body and made babies with him. This is the greatest opportunity ever! We meet up with humanity's greatest hero, together we make the strongest offspring and then when the time is ripe we "take him to the Ashen Village" for added Legend gain.

I mean, I get why people have Spiritual stuff they want to do. Inspiration, micromanagement, threatening questionmarks in the middle of our territory, it's all stuff that can be scary. But An'Wah'Hei is a big boy, he can take care of himself for a while.

You have three DE, not 4.

Only we can investigate the question mark, plus we are in sight range of another city territory which could be a spirit.

This is actually an exceedingly rational and well thought out explanation for a vote.
And making babies with the man who has Thicc Stats makes it possible that the bloodline that follows would have a higher statline than normal humans.

Damn. I'm convinced. I wish I could vote so I could back you up.

We have no idea what the Questionmark even could be. For all we know, it could be a trap that lies dormant until a Spirit passes by.

As for enemy-spirits, Kinpika is literally more skilled than any Spirit can be at this point in time. He'll be fine.

[X] Plan Poke the Mystery Tile
-[X] Preside over the Death Rites at Kut (Unlocked by Settlement DOGMA/Ritualist Skill) (Generates DE): Free
-[X] Astral Examination (Unlocked by Mystic/Genius Loci) (Reveals greater detail about an anomaly on the map): DE 2
-[X] Clairvoyance (Unlocked by Mysticism/Genius Loci) (Reveals a map tile up to INFLUENCE+2 away from a shrine): DE 0-2, Max 2 times per turn (based on distance from max influence)
--[X] Any tile within Influence range (4), starting from closest to our shrine and working out, do this twice
-[X] Communicate your desires to An'Wah'Hei (request tile expansions, request actions, request shrines, request the hoarding of special goods, etc.): DE 1
--[X] To build Shrines and venerate the spirit of the dead.

Okay poking the mystery box and also two 0 DE clairvoyance as I think we have some none revealed tiles within 4 influence. I can add a directing our gilgamesh if we have an action we want or we can keep the DE for next turn

Edit-
Added communicate for shrines thanks to @maximillian

Updated plan to include the build shrines communication from @maximillian

Uh, we have scrying. Which is safe to use unless the questionmark is magic and is advanced enough to retaliate through scrying

Ashform- 10 legend
Faith 1/2- 5 turns 5/10 DE
Faith 3/4- 4 turns 12/16 DE
Faith 5/6 3 turns 15/18 DE
Faith 7/8 2 turns 14/16 DE

Though we will be earning even more DE since we will be pushing up sooner and have turns at higher faith.

One thing we can also do is Faith 7/8 then go awe to generate some DE and start trickling legend to a trait then build faith back up. Our current king helps since he has the chance to boost our inspires which increase faith gain.

SO. There has been an important clariication on the Discord. Namely that you need Avatar 3 to make babies. This is bad, because Ashform only gives us Avatar 2.

If we want Avatar 3 (and I do), we need to throw in an Aspect as well. Sadly for @xtra_ore, an element alone isn't enough (word of PoM). So that leaves us with Hawk, Great Lizard and Hairless Ape. As a once purveyor of Plan Proper Reptile, I feel kinda obligated to vote for it.

[X] Enter torpor
-[X] Ashform
-[X] Aspect of the Greater Lizard

(plus, if we give An'Wah'Hei's children a Peerage boost they'll be even more beautiful!)

Well, that or if it explodes violently upon getting viewed.

(but thanks for calling me out for getting ahead ahead of myself on the whole "we must get a body asap" thing)
