As the jarl and his felag approached the clifftop crowd, the stink of
Nid rises from the gathered villagers of Finningur. It begins with Arne Gormsson (
@Guest99 ).
Any witness Arne bears to this act of uncaring cruelty, this behaviour not even worthy of the scorn of Odreng, fills him with a bitter distaste for Astrid Bright. Having already taken his land with her actions, rather than attempt to make amends with Klaus and build bridges by sparing his daughter, she demands yet more from him? This is an act of Nid, plain and simple, and it shall only be referred to as such. If Astrid Bright takes issue with this accusation, she can make her argument to the head of Arne's axe.
But quickly spreads.
Audvin will agree with Arne when he says this. This act is egregious and unpleasant and he regrets not speaking up first the more he thinks about it. He is grateful to Arne for being willing to speak and giving him the impetus to do so as well.
Bejorn though new to this land, will third this accusation of Nid, to extort a man who has already lost so much and by one's own hand can be no other thing.
As malignant weight of condemnation spreads from the hearts and minds of the crowd, it gathers around it's targets, Astrid Bjornsdottir and Klaus, poised like a serpent to strike.
INSTRUCTIONS ON NID
Nid is the opposite of
Ordstirr. Where
Ordstirr is given-glory,
Nid is shame-assigned.
Nid is a combination of three things.
- The community's condemnation of an individual's acts.
- The person's shame at their own acts.
- The condemnation of the watching gods.
SV, what I am going to ask you now is something that you should not take lightly. There is a person on the other side of Astrid who has emotionally invested in their character. That person may be hurt or upset by what said or done here. Keep that in mind.
Any of you may weigh in, OOC or IC, publicly or privately to me (and Nando), on your opinion of Astrid Bjornsdottir's conduct, whether it is
Nid-worthy or not, and what toll should be extracted, if any. You may also not weight in at all. Both are completely valid options. Astrid Bjornsdottir can defend herself OOC or IC but she should not be judged for remaining silent, if she so chooses. Others may defend Astrid as well. At the end of a reasonable period, 24-hours most likely, I'll make the call. Like extra Ordstirr rewards at the end of a season, the call on whether or not to press
Nid here will be influenced by the community but, ultimately, it is mine and it is not appealable.
Klaus does not resist. Even to himself, there is no denying what he has done. When pushed, he showed himself a coward and faithless in his family.
Nid strikes and he crumples, holding his chest, eyes squeezed tight in sourceless agony.
Will such be Astrid's fate as well?
Make your voices known, my Witches and my Giants.
