Witches and Giants: A NorseQuest Riot Fangame

Audvin speaks up "That's all true, but doesn't tell the whole story. Astrid was the one who awakened the tree to action and, by her handling of the situation, caused it to kill Brenda, forcing Klaus to pay dearly to bring her back, and to destroy Klaus's land, Brenda's house, and much else. She has at no point done anything to make up for being in some part the cause of all that. Astrid was not solely responsible for any of that, but she was involved, and blaming her is not madness. Brenda has blamed others for things not their fault before this, but I think she has some reason for this...perhaps not reason enough for what is to occur, but some reason."

Katla looks hesitant to speak against her future relative, but she nods in approval Audvin's words. Her good mood has been clearly ruined.

"And now she extorts the man out of the time and resources needed to seed and sow two (T5) farms for a challenge that will only happen when she refuses to pay restitution for her deeds?" Bejron asks, a silver of the anger he always hold within leaking into his voice.

Audvin simply says "Yes." but there's a hint of similar anger in his voice as well. He takes a deep breath and seemingly calms himself and continues "In fairness, Astrid Bjornsdottir may feel that her deeds in helping kill the tree were restitution enough, and Brenda went immediately to calling for a duel rather than asking for restitution, though I believe with all my heart that Astrid was never going to offer anything, and never tried to do so to stop the duel."

(She is riding in with the Felag. To be clear, to stop her and talk to her before she gets here, you'd have to stop all of them, including Jarl Kamban, are you sure you want to do that?)

(Audvin is not trying to stop them, he sort of goes in their general direction, but not standing in the way, looking like he wants to talk to Brenda, if they ignore him, they ignore him. Indeed, he expects that...but while he didn't actually say he'd talk to Brenda, he did imply it to Klaus, so he's gonna walk in that direction.)

"I wish things didn't have to come to this Klaus but it seems the Norns have other plans. If your daughter doesn't request a reasonable reparation then I will have to accept her challenge. If that happens there is a potential that your daughter may die by my hands, I don't wish to though so if you promise me to build a farm(T5 Field) on both my land and Alfvins land then I promise you that no matter what happens I will not slay your daughter today."

5.5 Social Skill if it applies to this.
Any witness Arne bears to this act of uncaring cruelty, this behaviour not even worthy of the scorn of Odreng, fills him with a bitter distaste for Astrid Bright. Having already taken his land with her actions, rather than attempt to make amends with Klaus and build bridges by sparing his daughter, she demands yet more from him? This is an act of Nid, plain and simple, and it shall only be referred to as such. If Astrid Bright takes issue with this accusation, she can make her argument to the head of Arne's axe.

Audvin will agree with Arne when he says this. This act is egregious and unpleasant and he regrets not speaking up first the more he thinks about it. He is grateful to Arne for being willing to speak and giving him the impetus to do so as well.

Bejorn though new to this land, will third this accusation of Nid, to extort a man who has already lost so much and by one's own hand can be no other thing.

Nid Accusation: Astrid Bjornsdottir
As the jarl and his felag approached the clifftop crowd, the stink of Nid rises from the gathered villagers of Finningur. It begins with Arne Gormsson (@Guest99 ).

But quickly spreads.

As malignant weight of condemnation spreads from the hearts and minds of the crowd, it gathers around it's targets, Astrid Bjornsdottir and Klaus, poised like a serpent to strike.

INSTRUCTIONS ON NID
Nid is the opposite of Ordstirr. Where Ordstirr is given-glory, Nid is shame-assigned. Nid is a combination of three things.
  1. The community's condemnation of an individual's acts.
  2. The person's shame at their own acts.
  3. The condemnation of the watching gods.
SV, what I am going to ask you now is something that you should not take lightly. There is a person on the other side of Astrid who has emotionally invested in their character. That person may be hurt or upset by what said or done here. Keep that in mind.

Any of you may weigh in, OOC or IC, publicly or privately to me (and Nando), on your opinion of Astrid Bjornsdottir's conduct, whether it is Nid-worthy or not, and what toll should be extracted, if any. You may also not weight in at all. Both are completely valid options. Astrid Bjornsdottir can defend herself OOC or IC but she should not be judged for remaining silent, if she so chooses. Others may defend Astrid as well. At the end of a reasonable period, 24-hours most likely, I'll make the call. Like extra Ordstirr rewards at the end of a season, the call on whether or not to press Nid here will be influenced by the community but, ultimately, it is mine and it is not appealable.

Klaus does not resist. Even to himself, there is no denying what he has done. When pushed, he showed himself a coward and faithless in his family. Nid strikes and he crumples, holding his chest, eyes squeezed tight in sourceless agony.

Will such be Astrid's fate as well?

Make your voices known, my Witches and my Giants.

IC Audvin said what he said. He's not gonna elaborate except in response to other people.

OOC, especially as the rumor of her deal with Deepvoiced goes around (which it will, since it was in the thread), Astrid just extorted a guy she'd wronged for additional concessions for doing something most reasonable people would aim for anyway, and importantly something she had already sworn to do. That's two-faced and deceptive as hell even leaving the extortion aside.

I have no idea what the mechanical ramifications of that level of 'being a scumbag' should be, but they should definitely exist and not as a small thing.

No shade on the player, by the way. Accurately playing a scumbag can be super fun...but Astrid Bjornsdottir is definitely being a scumbag

Eydis is in no condition to be at the Thing, she's too busy being chill in her bunker while trying to fix her glasses. She has no opinion because she doesn't know what's going on!

IC, Arne is appalled by Astrid Bright's behaviour and would call her out on it.

OOC? I really can't justify not calling Nid, it's one of the underpinnings of the setting that keeps Norse society running, otherwise we end up with the Jarl. In situations like this, it should absolutely be put into play, so everyone knows there's consequences.

(this just makes it worse).

Yeah, Bejorn said what he said, I don't see how this can be anything but Nid I'm problem going to err on the side of less Nid then more but that's more OOC reasoning as emphasizing with progress lost.

Actually, side note how dos one goes about reclaiming the ordsitrr lost by nid? Is there some special recovery mechanic or just regular Ordsittr gain?

Nope, Ord lost through Nid is straight up gone, your final resort is killing everyone who accused you of Nid or beating them until they retract the accusation. If you don't or can't do that, the Ord is gone.

As Alectai notes technically there is, but in this case probably not. You have to get the people who gave it to you to back off, or kill them all. Given the number of people involved...well, I don't like her odds.
