Shepard Quest Mk V, Base of Operations (ME/MCU)

Yep. Just remember Stane; you can tell if an engineer is social if their looking at your shoes instead of theirs.

Space is big. Like really big. Like really really big.

While it's a very rough estimate this calc puts the average distance between Asteroids at 16x greater then that of the Earth and Moon.

So issues 1 and 3 are unlikely. As someone, I can't remember who, put it; "You can fly through the asteroid belt without even realizing it's there."

To be fair the issue of some asteroids been mostly a clump of loosely held together dust is an issue but we can detect that so only solid asteroids are likely to be targeted.
You mean that star wars lied to me?!?! Gasp!

I'm curious, only got into this quest, this thread and pretty much skipped all the discussion so pardon me if this has already been mentioned, are we going to encounter canon timeline? Like, will the skyllian blitz and follow up revenge on Torfan happen?

That remains to be seen. The political and military situation that cause the Blitz has been changed by Revy's actions, so maybe not. And an expansion to Elysium would change which targets are most attractive to the attacking raiders, so maybe not there.

Now we have enough bonus points for Improwed Warhead.

It is more efficeint to buy from BP, than using dice, since half of the Oweflow BP is lost.
Good point - that brings us to:
Research Actions
[X] Peak Human (212/400) (30d10+55) (98.08%)

[x] Frigates (400) (70d10+55) (95.40%)

[x] Improved Warhead (150) (50 (Reference Recognition) +50 (Tiger Reward) + 50 (Omake)) (100%)

[x] Mk II Suit (500) - 40d10+20 + 50 (Omake) + (Overflow)
Right?

For those who want us not to research something because it can be misused..remember..anything can be used for evil. And if something can be used for great evil, it also can be equally used for great good.

"What human invention gives with one hand, it takes with the other. Hell lies implicit in a gift of Eden. The promise of progress, science and technology has also given the world both its worst weapon, the atomic bomb, but also the near infinite source of electric energy hidden inside the smallest parts of matter."- paraphrasing the narrator of Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising.

Well, Elysium was presumably chosen because it was the oldest, richest colony in the Verge and is at a relay nexus - that hasn't changed.

Revy's presence could be a deterrent, but it could also be a promoter given the attack was motivated by not just greed, but revenge.

Technically, the person who acquires the reward also gets to spend it, but most seem to be content to pass it on to the main plan-maker.

Well the two omake writers have already agreed (or were the person proposing the change) in this case, so I think we're fine here :p

In general, I'd only care about the 50 point bonus if I were trying to get a tech that no one else was super interested in. Make it cheaper so people would support finishing it.

Huh. We might finish the Mk2 this turn. Nice!
Nah, it's a 500 point tech. But it does mean the 300 I set aside for it is overkill, so we can probably sneak something else in there.

If nothing else, the 50 point single-use re-entry shroud for the Legionary would be nice to grab as a money maker before we come out with the Mk. II

Actually, since we aren't going to be finishing the Mk. II this turn anyways, and definitely will be the next one, anybody mind dumping a bonus into that? That's one extra turn of whatever minor (...relatively) monetary bonus it gets us.

So it means that technically we can spend our research points on blackjack and hookers correct?
Well, we have Tony Stark's mind a couple more of his enthusiasms wouldn't hurt much.
Plus then we can drunkenly argue with Sovereign.

"Yer cycles, I'll tell yah were you can put your fookin cycless."
"HUMAN, YOU ARE INTOXICATED AND HAVE SUCCUMBED TO THE WEAKNESS OF ALL ORGANICS. YOU ARE INCAPABLE OF RECOGNIZING THE LOGIC OF OUR PERFECTION."
"I'll show you purr- purrfec -perfection you big stupid cuttlefish."

I wonder how could BW not include this line after Big Stupid Jellyfish.

*Sigh*

You couldn't have suggested that three minutes ago?

Since we're about to hit Frigate tech, I thought I'd throw this out there:

Designed as a replacement for the versatile and proven Agincourt class frigate, the Retribution of Medusa is meant to be the newest and most advanced ship in the Systems Alliance Navy. Engineered around the paradigm shifts brought about by Paragon Industries, the Retribution of Medusa is expected to disrupt the balance of balance by simply existing.
Designed to operate with a minimum of crew and without fleet support on the frontier for extended period of time*, the new SSV utilizes the mass savings brought on by repulsor propulsion and arc reactor power generation to fit an orbital drop-bay and workshop in order to field Legionnaire class powered armors.
The
Retribution of Medusa is the most heavily armed frigate launched by the Alliance, and her arsenal is the first to include extreme-range variable aperture coherent radiation weaponry. It is capable of matching the firepower of traditional warships, but completely bypasses kinetic barriers and out-ranges even dreadnaughts by an order of magnitude. It's operational doctrine stresses using it's superior acceleration to pace enemy ships and take them apart from range.

With the recent increase in pirate activity in the Skylian Verge and the Batarian Hegemony's vocal opposition to Alliance colonization efforts in the area, it's expected that the new SSV construction schedule will be accelerated. Should hostilities escalate, Humanity's foes will find themselves facing the deadliest starship in known space.

Physical Characteristics

Inertial Mass: 4e5 Tonnes
Maximum Acceleration: Classified

Ship's Complement: 22 (6 marines, 4 officers, 12 enlisted)

Propulsion Systems:
  • Repulsor Thrusters
  • Mass Effect Core
  • Arc Reactor

Combat Systems:
  • Spinal 3 Terawatt Laser Projector
  • Multi-Aperture Laser Turret Array**

*Neural interface technology, advanced VI and robotics have been used to significantly reduce the amount of 'manual' maintenance required, allowing a reduction in crew size with no loss in repair capability.
**The point defense network is significantly more powerful than standard due to advances in the underlying machinery brought on by terawatt scale lasers.

I imagine it looking like the Balance of Judgement, but with four blades in stead of five, and a single central hull.
