Sayaka has a pretty damn low opinion of herself, actually- even before she became a magical girl, she doesn't think she's worthy of Kyousuke. She's bubbly as hell, sure, but the bluster and confidence is a facade and she crumples like paper under pressure or hardship.NSMS said:

I was thinking more of her own judgement of her skill and stuff immediately after she contracted than her general sense of self esteem. It looked to me like she was definitely overestimating her combat abilities at that point- I think she was basically riding high off the initial power rush until Kyouko came along and gave her a hard slap back down to reality. Seeing as she's still in the early days after the contract, she might still be in that brief 'yeah, I rock!' phase.thagguy said:

You see, while this "Anko" character was pretty darn good...you're better. You grab the bars and leap over it onto the platform as you take out some coins. You slam some into the machine, and pick the song that the girl was just on:
PARANOIA Revolution.
You smirk. "Oh good. I know this one."
Immediately Homura hears the blistering-fast beat, and she looks at you strangely. Then...you begin to play.
Now, much to her surprise, but certainly not your own, you eat the song alive. Your feet seem to glide over the platform as you do the steps at perfect time with the beat of the music. You're liquid, and you watch as you first make 200 steps, then 300, then 600. You do misstep once, but it's not enough to take it out of your your hands.
And then, you did it.
You put in your own name and, sure enough, it's right above this "Anko" person.
"I did it." You say with a smirk.
Homura's eyes are a little wide, but still. "...Your footwork."
"I actually won a bit of a contest involving this before." You say sheepishly. "It was fun, actually!"
And it's then that "Anko" notices you talking to Homura. "Wait...did you just...?"
"Huh?" You look at her. She's got long, long red hair, and that stick of Pocky's still in her mouth. She has a light gun in her hand and a light blue hoodie on, with a pair of shorts.
"...Huh. You beat my score." She says.
"Yup!" You grin, then you pause. Her hair looks a little familiar.
-[] "Do I know you from somewhere?"
-[] Ask for her real name.

You take your place on your side of the Dance Platform and you glare at her. "The name's Sayaka, by the way."
"Kyouko." She says. "And I'm gonna kick. Your. A-!"
You wipe the floor with her. Best two out of three becomes best three out of five, then five out of seven. By the end of it, you're both winded, which is impressive considering your endurance as a Magical Girl. "Hey..." You say while panting. "You're pretty...you're pretty good."
She glares at you, but she shoots you a thumbs up anyway. You can see her fang when she's panting. "Fuckin'...fuckin' A. How did you..."
"Contest!" You say. "I go here regularly. It's...fun to play this game." You lean back. "Wanna do...play a different game?"
You look back and see that Homura's started playing a light gun title. Whenever something appears on screen, it just seems to disappear in a shower of blood and red mist.

"...Screw it, let's play that."
"Time Crisis 5?" Kyouko groans. "I fucking suck at light gun games."
"Well, it's worth a shot, right?" You grin. "I mean, hey! Might be fun!"
She looks at you, then she shrugs. "Alright." She grabs a gun, then you grab your own. All of you begin playing the game, and just keep shooting the guys that are the bad ones.
You and Kyouko actually get pretty decent scores...then you look at Homura and you realize that her score's ridiculous. She used all the right guns at the right moments. She moved at liquid speeds, shooting everything that came towards her with enough skill to outclass professional marksmen.
You and Kyouko stare at her score, and Homura just turns. "...What?"
You pause for a few seconds...then you groan. "...Let's play something else."

Racing time! It looks like this place actually has F-Zero AX there, so you, Homura and Kyouko sit yourself there.
...
Kyouko won that one. Mostly through dirty tricks and the fact that she rammed you into the wall time and again. "Hey! That's cheating!"
"It's not cheating if the game allows it!" She sticks her tongue out at you, and you just grit your teeth. You gotta beat her again.

You all suck at platformers. Like, completely. You try playing Donkey Kong, which happens to be right next to the Time Crisis cabinet. You fail horribly and lose all of your lives before you even get up to the third level.
Kyouko doesn't fare much better.
Homura gets up to the top...before a barrel squashes her.
"...Fuck this game." Kyouko mutters. "Fuckin' piece of shit."
"We're just bad at it. No need to blame the game." You say.
Homura just shrugs.

You three go over to a nearby set of Street Fighter machines. You take one and Kyouko takes another, and you prepare to DUKE IT OUT over THE GREATEST OF THE PLAYER POWERS.
Here's the thing, though.
You've never played Street Fighter 4 before. So now you have no idea how to do this. You're immediately steamrolled as it turns out that Kyouko has played it before. She plays Juri. You play Sakura. She blows you over using aggressive combos and loads of kicks. You throw a feeble Hadoken that doesn't even make it to her.
K.O.
You lose as Kyouko laughs haughtily.
