The author of Puella Magi Adfligo Systema has used it in the past to count down the number of updates until something interesting happens. But there's also the chance that Moid is just taking the opportunity to screw with us a bit too.

She pauses, before she realizes that she was talking to you, with Kyouko currently cuddled up against your stomach. She blushes. 'N-no, that's not what I meant at all!' She shakes her head. 'It..I just never thought of this and Akane is...!' She bites her lip. '...What if she likes boys and what if I'm not actually gay and...' She shuts her eyes. '...Why am I so scared? I...I had my face burned off a few days ago and this hurts more. It hurts like I know that she won't...' She gulps. '...Won't like me back.'

'Then you can at least be her friend, right?' You smile.

'B-but...' Tomo stares at the floor. '...I'm sorry for being stupid.' She says. '...But...this is frustrating.'

'I know.' You say. '...Before I had Kyouko, I actually had a crush on a boy. His name was Kyousuke...and he didn't like me back. I still managed to be his friend, though.'

'But...what if Akane thinks I'm gross or...'

'She knows that Kyouko and I are together.'

Tomo pauses. She shakes. '...I'm sorry.'

'It's fine.' Kyouko says. '...Sayaka's doing a better job with you than I ever could.' She frowns. 'I'd probably say something insensitive or some shit.'

Why are we not bringing up, hey, Akane says she's straight too. But then again, Tomo says she's straight, so that doesn't count for much.
 
Largely because it doesn't matter what Sayaka tells Tomo. Tomo was there when we were trying to ship Akane with a Nakazawa, and she's still hoping that Akane's Bi. Telling her that Akane's straight isn't going bring closure like a rejection will. Frankly it's better in the long run for a rejection to take place than for Tomo to hold a torch for Akane because unrequited loves suck and we all know how emotion affects megucas in combat.

From a purely logical point of view, getting Tomo to fess up here and now is probably the best shot we'll ever get to defuse this rejection drama with as little fallout as possible. Both Sayaka and Mikimom are here, they both have experience dealing with this sort of thing, and it's a nice mundane problem compared to the horrific shit that Meguca usually deal with.

From a more emotional point of view, it's really up to Tomo here. Akane's dense as a brick about this sort of thing so Tomo will have to take the plunge. Forcing Tomo to confess here and now is kind of a dick move if we know she'll just get rejected, better in the long run or not.

The magic girl looks at you, wide eyed and her mouth in the shape of an 'o'. She moves her lips as if she's about to speak, but is interrupted by a familiar voice.

"I have some information for you all, if you will allow me to share it." Incubator "You see, due to the laws of the universe, when a magic girl's soul gem is created, it condenses her feelings into one small space, which means that every small emotion, whether it be love or despair, will be felt on a much larger scale. This somehow equates to magic girls nearly always turning into-"

"Witches?" Tomo said, you can see fighting through the tears caused by her sudden realisation.

She stares at you for several good, long seconds...before she smiles thinly. '...t...thanks for the talk, Sayaka.' She says. 'Thank you.'

Just as she says that, there's a ringing sound. The pizza is here.
