Even if we mess up the social roll it probably won't be to bad.
@ninjastar do we get any bonus socializing with him since we saved his life? Actually do we get a bonus when socializing with people that already have a good opinion of us?
I actually think that there might not even be a social roll for Chang Chen, it's very likely that if we were to talk with other people we would get a "first impression" roll and we have passed Chang Chen's with a success so I think that's why he is the safest choice. God I hope this mask idea will work to our favor.
I tried out a new paragraph style this chapter, thanks for the advice Bludflag, so If you see any mistakes, notify me so I can fix them, as I am new to this. What do you think about the new style? Did you like it more or did you prefer the old one?
Well, since the action of going through the scriptures is prior to the fight with the nosy brat, wouldn't it be more logical to simply place it that way? Generally, stories are chronological. This way, we're jumping into the past halfway through the update.
Who is the boss (identity) vs. who owns the boss (possession). By analogy, it's the difference between it's and its.
Concerning how thoughts are shown, you don't need the single quotation marks to surround them ('thoughts'). It's fine to simply set them in italics (thoughts). Or rather, it's the common practice in the industry.
Xiao Fang yawned as she got out of bed. She looked around her room. It seemed to be missing something. She thought for a moment before nodding to herself. Yes, she needed a weapon! Not a pansy-ass toothpick like a sword or spear, a real badass weapon!
'I need a sabre! Now that's a real woman's weapon!'
Yeah, honestly, just getting a pair of glasses or something with an illusion spell to make our eyes look normal would let us surprise our enemies by making them think we're nothing but a mascot-type but joke's on you we're the undying flame out to punch you in the face.
"Hah! You fell for my bluff! Now, prepare for the real Heavenly Ultra-flame Dragon Divine Fist!" Xiao Fang shouted. This time the man didn't dodge, calling her bluff, only for Xiao Fang sabre to smash into his face.
It's generally the case that authors spell out small numbers (from zero to ten or twenty, with some style guides going as high as a hundred) and neat numbers like thirty, a thousand, ten thousand, a million, etc. It's sometimes easier to read words than numbers. However, something like 387 is usually simply rendered as a number. Also, it's inadvisable to start sentences with numbers (according to style guides and it is indeed somewhat disorientating).
LMAO, who said we can romance only one person? I say dense harem protagonist route! Fail a social roll, then beat up that person so hard they develop feelings for us.
Xianxia only doles out promises of eternal love surpassing death and the river of time!
I was busy with college for the last week or so and I'll hopefully have time to keep up with this henceforth. I pointed out some things that particularly jump out and seem liable to produce most effect for least effort put into improvement. Gotta do it according to Pareto, right?
I think the new style is working out better, yeah, if roughly at the start. Ah well, it'll come with experience and some pointers from a senior.

Wow, that's a pretty drastic reaction to greed. I've seen eyes turning green from greed, but I haven't seen anyone who started crying ears yet.
Lol, I like how the Xiao Fang is basically Long Chen Girl Edition.
I want us to henceforth use assassination attempts as a danger metric, kinda like power index in Sage Monarch.
She's beauty, she's grace, she'll punch you in the face? I approve!

Xiao Fang looked around the room. Inside were 3 people. A young man with a golden sword who gave of a dangerous air, a young girl with a large cauldron strapped to her back and Chang Chen. Xiao Fang wasn't very good at meeting new people so she decided to talk to Chang Chen while they waited for the other brackets to end. Xiao Fang walked over to Chang Chen.
"Hey! Senior Brother Chang, long time no see." She greeted. Chang Chem smiled and replied.
"Ah, if it isn't Junior Sister Fang, how are you doing?" He asked with a pleasant smile.
"Oh, um I've been doing fine. How about you? I heard your cultivation was progressing very fast." Xiao Fang said. Chang Chen laughed with a smile.
"Yeah I guess, but considering my Fireheart Physique it's to be expected of me, in a place filled with so much fire Qi, I'm like a tiger that has grown wings. How about you?"
"Oh, I've been doing fine." Xiao Fang said, equally as awkwardly. She had no idea how to continue the conversation. Luckily for her Chang Chen seemed capable of it.
"How wonderful. I noticed you've become a direct disciple, might I ask who took you in?" He asked with a smile.
"Ah, It was the Grand Elder." Xiao Fang responded. Chang Chen raised his eyebrows.
"Really? The Grand Elder? How did that happen?" He asked.
"Well, he tried to kill me but I didn't give up and he was impressed by my will power so he took me in as his disciple." Xiao Fang explained. Chang Chen's eyebrows raised even higher.
"Alright then, keep your secrets," he said with an amused grin, clearly having taken her for joking. The boy with the golden sword suddenly turned to her and him in.
"So I can become a direct disciple if I can get an Elder to try and kill me and survive? Good to know." He said with a smirk. Xiao Fang decided it would be funnier not to correct him. The girl with the cauldron spoke up.
"You shouldn't say things like that about the elders. You could get in trouble" She said with a disapproving frown. Xiao Fang rolled her eyes.
"Don't worry so much sis. Actually, why don't we all introduce ourselves?," The boy said. "I'll go first. My name is Piolang Nanhai. I follow the way of the sword and dislike those who use swords but don't commit to the Dao. My dream for the future is to reach immortality." Nanhai said. The frowning girl sighed but introduced herself.
"My name is Piolang Nuhai, his sister. I like learning about herbs and doing alchemy. I dislike parties and my dream for the future is to become a master alchemist.
"My name is Chang Chen, I like seafood and sparring. I dislike cowards and my dream to become the Sect-Protector someday." Chang Chen chimed in.
"My name is Xiao Fang, I like fire and money and dislike nosy people. My dream for the future is to become the richest person alive." Xiao Fang said. Piolang Nanhai smiled at her.
"That's an admirable dream. How exactly do you plan to accomplish it?" He asked grinning. Xiao Fang looked at him and smiled back. She had never met anyone aside from herself that enjoyed economics!
"Well, first I will enter in an industry and then using price-war and buying out tactics achieve a monopoly while at the same time using well-applied bribes and blackmail so the government creates policies that support my company, then once I have a total monopoly I will use the money generated to begin to monopolize other industries until I have a massive self-sustaining wealth machine. Then using that, I will establish and nurture a country to self-sufficiency and by use of low taxes and strategic placement, turn it into a trade empire. Then using that I will steadily expand my business until it is a massive multi-faceted global corporation so disseminated and decentralized it's virtually impossible to destroy and everyone will work for me or use products created by me." She said, explaining the outline of her plan. Nanhai's eyes steadily rose as she explained her plan to him.
"Well . . .You certainly don't lack ambition," He said. "It's important for us cultivators to have grand goals." He seemed like he was about to say something when the door to the room opened and Elder Yun walked in, 8 disciples trailing behind him.
"Alright, you lot, you represent the most skilled youth of each bracket of the Huoyun sect. For the next two months, you will be granted resources from the sect and unfettered access to the second floor of the scripture Pavillion. The tournament is in two months and you are to use the next two months to train as best as possible. After that, we will be heading to Shattered Dusk Island where the Crimson Dawn sect is hosting the tournament this year. Be on your best behaviour as all of you will be representing the sect. Don't disappoint the sect and win. The top prizes are things that even I would like to have." He explained.
Xiao Fang sighed. The boons he had just listed were things she already received as a Direct Disciple. She had hoped that there would be good rewards for the internal contest but it seemed that there were none. At least the real tournament would have some nice opportunities if what Elder Yun said was true.

The next day Xiao Fang awoke. She grabbed a Molten Heart Flame Pill and cultivated, circulating the burning Qi through her lungs, causing more of the cells to be filled with vitality and awaken. She could feel herself steadily approaching the 7th level of Lung Vitalization. However, instead of pushing forward she instead sat down and began to circulate the Qi in her Dantian. It was important not to create an imbalance between her Qi and Body.
Taking a deep breath Xiao Fang began to crush the Qi within her Dantian, removing the impurities and condensing it into a greater form.
Thought separates man from beast, earth from heaven. Contemplation separates the wise king from the foolish peasant, the Yin from the Yang. When the heavens fall silent and the earth no longer shakes only Contemplation will remain.
Xiao Fang felt the Qi within her swirling, becoming more dense and powerful. After an hour she stood up and exited her house. She was not yet at the third level of Qi condensation but she was close. As she walked towards the Martial Hall to meet her unofficial tutor, she paused. A massive golden star had appeared on the horizon, like a second sun. A voice echoed out across the sect.
"Elder Ji from the Myriad Islands Alliance is here, come out and greet me!" The voice shouted. A terrifying pressure was extruding from the star. Around her disciples were falling to their knees and coughing up blood. Xiao Fang alone stood tall, unmoved by the crushing feeling on her soul. It was nothing compared to the dread of social contact!
"You have some guts to cause trouble in my Huoyun sect." Another voice responded. Xiao Fang looked up in awe. Across the entire island, the clouds had converged to form a massive face, fully a thousand kilometres long. An equally terrifying pressure erupted from the face in the sky, however unlike the pressure from before it seemed to enshroud and protect the disciples around her.
"Save me the games! Patriarch Huoyun, either join the Myriad Islands Alliance or we will execute your nine generations!" The voice said with a harrumph.
"I don't think so," Patriarch Huoyun responded. "In fact If any of you cunts step onto my island again, I will paint the shoes black with your ashes."
"Very well then. You brought this on yourself. I will report this to the alliance at once." The voice said.
"Ah, not so fast. Since you came to die then far be it of me to deny you your wish." Patriarch Huoyun's cloud face announced before the clouds suddenly converged into a massive fist.
"Searing Skies Godfist!" the Patriarch announced, as the massive cloud-fist began to glow a deep red and shoot forward.
"Solar Heaven Palm!" Elder Ji responded, a massive palm of starlight, hundreds of kilometres long shooting forward and slamming into Patriarch Huoyuns Godfist. A massive explosion split the horizon, so bright Xiao Fang's eyes began to smoke as she fell to her knees and screamed. Even hundreds of kilometres from the epicentre, she was still injured so much.
A second explosion flashed across the skies as the two cultivators began to battle, their very presence warping space.
The sky is falling
Once again they clashed, a massive snake of swirling fire slamming into a sword formed from millions of tiny stars.
The sky is breaking.
Space screamed and shattered, gale force winds gushing around her and tearing down houses and trees. By now Xiao Fang's eyes had recovered and she attempted to stand up only to fall to her knees as she coughed up blood. Was this what it meant to be a Nascent Soul? Would she one day reach such a level. They seemed more forces of nature than men. Her ears rang as sky splitting blasts of fire and light burst and shattered.
"Heaven Incinerating Palm!" The voice cried out once more.
"Flame Cloud Cataclysm '' Came Patriarch Huoyun's response. The two moves appeared in the sky, like blinding stars. A massive sea of flames slamming into the Palm of starlight. The two techniques struggled against each other for what felt like hours to the Xiao Fang lying on the dirt. However inevitably one broke. A scream came from the star as the ocean of flames swirled around it.
"A-AH you bastard! Aren't you afraid of offending the Myriad Islands Alliance? I don't believe you will kill me!" Elder Ji's voice came.
"Hmm, let me consider this veery carefully . . . Die." Patriarch Huoyun replied as the star shattered like glass. A horrified scream came from the broken star, along with the district sound of sizzling flesh. After a moment the screaming stopped and the sea of flames dissipated, leaving behind only a dim blue sky.
Xiao Fang lay numbly on the ground heaving mouthfuls of blood. She looked down and saw what appeared to be white sticks poking out of her chest.
Are those ribs? Her delirious mind questioned before she blacked out.
How does her body Cultivation go?
D100 + Immeasurable Talent + Molten Heart Flame Pills + Extremely Strong + Affinity:Fire + Flame Spring Baptism + Phoenix Bloodline
4 + 72 (+ 30 + 17 + 10 + 5 + 5 + 5) = 78 Major Success.
Xiao Fang awoke in a white bed, bandages covered her chest. Sister Qi was sitting in a chair asleep. Xiao Fang looked around and noticed her master.
"Oh, you're awake? That was fast," he asked. "I'm terribly sorry about what happened. I was out of the sect on an . . . errand. The Patriarch has always been terrible at holding back. I made sure to take the cost for your pills from his personal account." Her master said. Xiao Fang nodded, craning her neck to look at him.
"Are you alright, I understand if you want to stay in the Medical Hall for a while longer. I'm sure it was very scar-"
"Nah, I'm fine. Besides I have a tournament in 2 months, how the hell could I waste my time in a hospital bed?" Xiao Fang was fantasizing about the rewards. How much would it be? A million spirit stones? An entire island? Her own Core Formation Tamed Beast?
"Who the hell was that guy anyway?" She asked.
"He was from the Myriad Islands Alliance. They are not pleased by our sect's continuous refusal to join them or let them mine on the island." He replied. Xiao Fang nodded in understanding. Press ganging was a common practice amongst mortal gangs.
She wasn't sure how she felt about a large group of immortals acting no different from rowdy hooligans from the mortal world. Didn't they care at all about Face? Or did they just think since they could get away with it, that nothing mattered? Xiao fang narrowed her eyes. She knew the first place she would torch once she became stronger.
That's a nice Alliance you have there. It would be a shame if someone were to set all your businesses on fire . . .
If there was one thing that Xiao Fang had learnt on the streets, it was that debts always had to be repaid. Always.

So most of the stuff here is to get an immediate power up for the tournament
The armor is for a boost in combat.
The mask is to hopefully help us socially by hiding our inhuman features.
We might be able to break through to 7th level and almost definitely will break through to the 3rd level of qi condensation(Unless we roll really low.)
Studying the eight trigrams is to start helping our cultivation in the future.

So I replaced the studying with another Qi, since the update even said we should even it out
This is my idea for a fire based movement technique
Flame Burst Combat Movement Technique- Using the burst of energy given off during an explosion, the user compresses a good amount of fire Qi until it explodes. Riding this burst of Qi allows the user to move quickly or change direction suddenly, even in mid air. Due to the power of the explosion, there is a good chance to injure anyone near by including the user if their body cultivation is not a sufficiently high level. At mid levels, the burst can be controlled to push weapon attack speeds to extreme levels. At high levels, the explosion can be focused so all the blast is used for speed.

Okay, so there's quite a lot to go through with this plan *sighs*.
We're doing body cultivation only once mostly because it's very likely that with one AP we get to next stage which is extremely cost efficent, however using more than that doesn't give us enough benefits to be truly game changing for the plan that we will be stuck with for quite some time. I'll get to Qi cultivation later.
Of course we use one AP to get a mask/glasses/shades/anything that would help hide our eyes and get rid of the inhuman disadvantage for the duration of the tourney( that is if the mask would work like that lol).
Another AP goes for a Battle Skill, we can't be a one trick pony for this tournament and movement skill will help us immensely against people who just don't want to get personal with us.
I want to also point that I'm not going to use an action to buy an armor mostly because our previous battle skill already works as armor and is extremely good at it so I think armor isn't worth getting right now, since it's going to be useful for extremely short amount of time judging by our speed of "gitting gud" I think.
2 AP towards Qi cultivation, this is mostly meant as an investment for the future, but another reason is our earth based movement skill which should benefit from using a cultivation technique that uses mostly earth qi.
Talking about investments ... a point towards Remedial Etiquette. I think most of people have missed this seemingly "normal" looking action. When you first take a look at it you don't really notice anything groundbreaking about it, sure it's technically a +1 towards social rolls, but what does that really change. The answer is A LOT, because this is the only action that removes one of our major disadvantages and if we manage to get rid of it, boy howdy our social rolls no longer look that scary, hell we even get a + on social rolls without it. Of course right now it doesn't look that impressive since it only 1 point of difference. HOWEVER if we were to lock this option for quite some time, over time we will get rid of our major problems that keep us from really becoming OP Xianxia protag 101.
So with this I would like to propose that every new plan would lock this action atleast once.
Probably would be best if it isn't a talisman because unless it is a high level one people will be able to see through it, a mask would probably be better.

I don't quite understand the definiton of talisman in xianxia settings, thought it would mean some sort of "artifact" that would help us with our eyes. Guess I'll change it.

So I chose to try and get to the 7th level of body cultivation instead of putting more into Qi cultivation because from what I have seen that is probably the highest we will face in this tournament barring a super genius so I want us to get there so we don't suffer a -10 when fighting those people.
I did it twice because I'm worried once won't be enough.

We should probably level up etiquette while it is still a low level since it counts towards both first impressions and conversations but once it gets to a higher level(At which point it will likely be harder to level up) we should defiantly do the remedial lessons.
I agree with always putting at least one action towards social unless something big is about to go down.
I don't quite understand the definiton of talisman in xianxia settings, thought it would mean some sort of "artifact" that would help us with our eyes. Guess I'll change it.
I'm just going off of what I have seen in quest, so we have an essence shrouding talisman and I would wager that those in nascent soul can still see us since its a core formation talisman, it also cost a lot of qi to use so even if we got a talisman strong enough we probably won't have enough qi to use it frequently or for extended periods of time.
There are a few explanation I think, the most likely one is that this was just "one session" which doesn't translate to "one action". Plus most of these "actions" might actually take more time than just "one session", it's safe to assume that it takes some time for Xiao Fang to reach next stages. Therefore I think that this is mostly just QM giving us a headstart towards cultivation actions this turn.

However, instead of pushing forward she instead sat down and began to circulate the Qi in her Dantian. It was important not to create an imbalance between her Qi and Body.

"Save me the games! Patriarch Huoyun, either join the Myriad Islands Alliance or we will execute your nine generations!" The voice said with a harrumph.
This sure seems like an alliance that won't blow to pieces under the slightest pressure[/sarcasm]
Unfortunately it also seems like the leadership of our Sect probably lacks the diplomatic skills to make effective use of this.
On a personal level, killing a messenger who came to tell you to join or die pretty much has to be the opening blow of this war, right? Like, they have to either attack us or give up on doing so. I don't know how much detail the world is being simulated in, but if this is being modelled then I would be surprised if we made it 2 months to the contest without the war starting since Cultivators don't exactly have long supply lines that need to be organised.
Is there anything we can really do beyond running and hiding if the war does kick off?
