Yeah kinda conflicted here. I was thinking everyone would see us heroically get injured saving the Duke's kid but instead we end up the creepy girl standing over the corpse. No injury or observed justification. Not even sure we needed to kill him considering how unthreatening he ended up looking.
@ninjastar Do we know how much trouble we could be in here? Would they take us at our word as our lady's handmaiden?
well your not really in any trouble, just that you might want to avoid the attention. or you might no depend on what you prefer really. they wound not just take a 12 year old at your word but you do have solid evidence and even if they don't believe you it's not like you have committed a crime.

"There was a guy walking up with a knife, nobody else seemed to notice him but me, and he got really close, so I made sure he stopped getting close because he was probably up to no good"
And it gives the impression that Xiao Fang is sekritly a super trained bodyguard and that's why she's tolerated.
More importantly? To an extent we want to make a bit of a scene so we potentially get the attention of the Sect or someone related. A ridiculous combat prodigy is someone that most of the actual powers are going to be interested in checking if they ca be a Cultivator after all.
On one hand I really want to go for keeping the talisman since it feels like something very in-character. On the other hand we have our "amazing" social skills and status.

A compendium of common fairy tales and nursery rhymes by Shen Qiu Pg 14
Dong Li sat down in his grandfather's study.
His grandfather was reading a document, letting him stew in his thoughts.
"How many times do we have to do this grandfather?" the boy asked.
"Until you learn your lesson" replied the elderly figure.
"But grandfather, It was an accident! Besides we can afford to buy a hundred of those paintings easily!"
Dong Li had been playing around when he had knocked over a vase and ruined one of the many ink paintings that decorated their house. Ever since he had been kneeling here in front of his grandfather and his knees were starting to hurt.
"So you think that art was cheap?" Grandfather asked.
Dong Li blushed but nodded in confirmation. "Yes, grandfather. It was made with ordinary ink, on cheap parchment and not even by a famous painter. There are probably a hundred just like it in the market"
Grandfather hummed slightly as he listened to his grandson.
Grandfather then took out an ink stick, an inkstone, a bowl of water, a brush and a piece of parchment. All the tools required to create ink paintings.
First Grandfather used the stone to crush the ink stick into powder.
Then he mixed it with the bowl of water until it became a nice glossy black pot of ink.
Finally, he dipped his brush into the ink before he began painting.
He painted for well over an hour before putting his brush away with a satisfied hum.
Then he picked up the painting and ripped it in two.
"How do you feel?" asked Grandfather.
"Well . . . My knees hurt." replied the boy
The grandfather nodded before motioning for the boy to leave.
"Since your knees hurt I will let you go to bed. Tomorrow return to my study at noon"
The young boy nodded before running off to bed, hoping to get some rest for his aching legs.
Along the way he pondered. "Why did grandfather rip up his painting? Perhaps he simply wasn't happy with the result" The boy thought as he slept.
True to his word the next day the boy returned and kneeled in his grandfather's office.
This time the grandfather took out the brush, the inkstone, the parchment, the bowl of water and the ink stick and placed them out in front of the boy.
"My bones are weary. Grind some ink for me, boy" Commanded the grandfather.
Dong Li nodded and got to work, grinding the inkstick into fine powder.
"My bones are weary. Mix the ink for me boy" Commanded the grandfather
Dong Li nodded and got to work mixing the ink powder with the water to create a thick black ink.
"My bones are weary boy. Dip the brush for me"
Dong Li nodded and got to work dipping and soaking the brush in ink.
The grandfather then handed him the brush and said "I am tired. Paint for me"
Dong Li was hesitant but did not want to anger his grandfather, so he got to work.
Dong Li attempted to paint a forest. The forest did not look all to nice, the ink was too thick in some areas and too thin in others, the trees looked like bushes and the bushes looked like rocks.
After an hour Dong Li had finished his painting and put the brush away.
The grandfather picked up the paper and ripped it in two
"How do you feel" asked Grandfather
The boy frowned.
"I'm very angry!" he said, red in the face "Why did you have me do all that if you were just gonna rip it up?"
"Why weren't you angry when I ripped up my painting yesterday?" asked Grandfather.
"Huh, because . . . Because I worked so hard on this one and spent so much time, while I did not do anything to help yesterday" Dong Li said
"How long do you think Su Lan worked on the ink painting you destroyed yesterday? How many years did he spend mastering his craft? How many hours did he spend painstakingly painting it?" Grandfather spoke.
Dong Li now thoroughly ashamed of his previous actions swore to always value the time and effort put in by others and to always cherished what he had for its true value was in time. Even the cheapest pigpen had been crafted by hand, minute by minute hour by hour.
Shen Qiu's Note: Many historians dispute the origin of this fable, with many claiming it to be a tale from the youth of Painting Sage Dong Liu while others attribute the story to the works of fiction writer Xia Feng. While the origin of this story may never be discovered the lesson it tells is something all children should learn.

Xiao Fang thought for a moment before deciding to just tell the truth.
She hadn't committed a crime and in fact, had saved the life of a Duke's heir.
She would, of course, leave out the talisman.
No sense in letting others know about such a treasure if she could avoid it.
"That man in black seemed to be some sort of assassin. For some reason, no one else but me could see him. I got the drop on him and killed him" Xiao Fang stated.
The guard's eyes widened and stared at her intensely.
"I have to go report this to the guard captain. You've done a great service today. I'm Sure Duke Chang will reward you greatly" The man stated before signalling something to the other guards and running off.
Chang Chen walked over to her.
"Is what you said true? Did you really save my life?" He asked.
Xiao Fang nodded.
Chang Chen kneeled on the ground and bowed his head to her.
"I, Chang Chen will forever be indebted to you. For now, I hope this will suffice as a reward." Chang Chen took out a small jade box from his pocket and handed it to her.
"What is it?" Xiao Fang asked.
"It's a Flamecloud Spirit Stone." Replied Chang Chen
Xiao Fang's eyes widened.
A single spirit stone was worth a small fortune. Each one was enough to feed a mortal family for a year.
In polite culture, especially in the giving of gifts, it was polite to refuse a few times only to have the person insist.
It was a little theatre to make the receiver look less greedy and the gifter to look more generous but was entirely a waste of time in Xiao Fang's opinion.
"Alright, I accept thank you. " Xiao Fang replied failing to hide her grin.
She reached out and pocketed the stone.
With that much money, she could do a lot of things, maybe buy a store and finally being her dream to become the wealthiest person alive.
She could buy a mountain of books to learn important knowledge.
She could hire a tutor to learn powerful martial arts . . .
Xiao Fang was knocked out of her fantasy by a hand tapping her shoulder.
It was the guard from before.
"Please come with me. Someone would like to see you." He said.
Before Xiao fang could respond, Lady Qi walked over.
"My handmaiden will not be going anywhere without me!" She stated
The guard seemed to consider it for a moment before nodding.
"Alright, come with me" He briskly walked off, leading them down the winding stone hallways of the fortress.
Xiao Fang noticed there were many suits of armour and weapons decorating the halls.
It served to highlight the differences in culture between the hedonistic nobles of capital Xingwei and the militaristic East.
Eventually, they arrived in a well-lit office. Inside was a man dressed in red and white robes with swirling flames and auspicious clouds embroidered into it.
He was sitting in the lotus position with his eyes closed.
He was tall and extremely buff, resembling more a bear than a man.
He had extremely masculine looks and a gruff beard.
"Sit down" He ordered.
Xiao Fang was about to argue when she noticed something.
The man was floating.
She could see the bottom of his robes draping the ground but without a doubt, the man was floating an inch off the ground.
He must be an immortal from the Huoyun sect! Xiao Fang thought
Xiao Fang hurriedly tapped Lady Qi's arm and nodded at her.
'Do what he says' Her look seemed to say.
Lady Qi nodded, confused and sat down.
The two of them trusted each other and if Xiao Fang thought they should obey this man then she would listen, no matter what her noble pride demanded.
The man stared at the for a good minute before talking.
"Hand over the talisman" he ordered. Xiao Fang felt a little shocked. 'How does he know?' She thought before hastily handing it over. The Immortal looked over the talisman for a few moments before humming and handing it back.
"As I thought, a High-level Essence Shrouding Talisman." Xiao Fang sighed in relief. She had been worried he was going to snatch the talisman but he seemed not to care about it.
"So, How did you do it?" The bear-like man inquired
"Do what, Esteemed Senior?" Xiao Fang replied.
"How did you see through the Essence Shrouding Talisman. Even l, a Core Formation Cultivator such was unable to see through it."
"I don't know senior, It just seemed to not affect me." Xiao Fang responded, unsure of the answer. The man put on a considering look before speaking.
"Hmm. I wonder . . ." Suddenly the man narrowed his eyes and an incredible pressure filled the air.
It was like she had been submerged underwater, the liquid crushing her lungs and making her unable to breathe. However, Xiao Fang ignored the feeling and resided the urge to fall to her knees.
Unlike Xiao Fang Lady Qi fell to her knees gasping for air, unable to breathe under the oppressive air.
"How interesting. A mortal who can withstand my spiritual pressure. Even thoughI'm holding back, this is definitely unprecedented" The man said.
Xiao Fang felt very nervous but did not let it show.
"Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Yun Wuying, the 4th Seat Elder of the Huoyun sect.
While gathering herbs near this city, I sensed Chang Chen's Fireheart Physique and asked him to become my disciple.
He asked for me to wait a week for his 13th birthday and I accepted.
However, it seems one of my rivals discovered this fact and gave a powerful concealment Talisman to a mortal terrorist.
I was in the castle, covering with my spiritual sense and yet did not notice the assassin. And yet somehow you did.
Not only that you resited my aura despite not even being a cultivator.
How interesting. "
The fourth elder stood up and walked over to them. As he did so the pressure receded and Lady Qi resumed breathing, gasping on her knees.
"I'm going to check your talent. Stand still and hold your breath" Command the elder.
Xiao Fang nodded and held her breath, inhaling deeply in preparation.
Elder Yun placed his hand on her head and Xiao Fang felt a strange tingling sensation in her forehead.
It felt like liquid fire was flowing through her body, filling every crevice.
The fire seemed to move and flow to the center of her stomach before gathering there in her center.

"There seems to be no significant leakage in your Dantian. You have sufficient talent to become a cultivator"
After dropping that bombshell he moved over to inspect Ladi Qi who had only just recovered from the aura.
He placed his hand on her forehead and after a moment nodded to himself. "She too seems to have the Talent. To think there would be 3 in the same mortal city, how unusual, "
The elder addresses the two of them.
"Now you two have an important choice to make.
You can continue living your peaceful mortal lives and enjoy what time you have left or you join the Huoyun sect and cultivate.
It will not be easy.
It will be a treacherous road filled with pain and hardship, but if you succeed you will soar into the heavens above all other mortals.
Unlike Chang Chen I have no plans of making you two my direct disciplines, you will either have to make it as ordinary students or find another elder willing to teach you. "

Impressing elders probably just amounts to "Just excel". Structure of the sect is something that we will easily learn once there. i'd rather ask him about navigating said sect since as a slave we will need to know how to avoid trouble more than most. Lady qi is a friend so having someone on our side there is probably for the best too.

I know we're a slave but I still kinda like the idea of going together. Hopefully our official position won't remain as it is for long and changes won't require enmity. Trust and friendship shown has me hopeful.
