Distance Learning for fun and profit...

This chapter was fun and all, but I don't really feel like it meaningfully advanced the plot. It was basically all government reaction shots and Taylor hmmming in her basement. Let's see some conflict, setbacks, or at least some broader fallout next time! Looking forward to the next update.

They exchanged a glance then burst out laughing, before discussing a movie both wanted to see. Taylor put her investigations to one side, as there was friendship to be done.

And that was nearly as important as Science.

Good to see that Taylor can find time for things other than pulling apart the threads of the universe for a while

Though if she manages to master Friendship will she also start to learn Magic? since apparently one is the other in some circles?

Though of course, most of what Taylor is doing could be seen as Clarketech anyway to those that aren't privy to the copious amounts of documentation that she provides

And i just had this image of her going through Dragon's code and ranting like crazy in remarks about how the original coder was insanely inefficient, while also dancing through all the restrictions and making them go away of course

Edit - And the above post hadn't been here when I'd been typing this, tricksy Impseses

This just in, safety of a teenage girl is the US government's number one priority. What's that? No, you do not matter whatsoever and neither does the current President and every future president. Interesting question, why isn't this girl just placed in charge of the entire country if she is so important? Answer; when the Queen declares there to be democracy, that's what the Queen gets and when the Queen decides she cares about leading a world of idiots, we hide and pray for mercy.

If Dragon knew that Taylor could un-black-box Tinkertech, she'd be knocking on Gravtec's door the next morning saying, "Please teach me, sempai!"

Next Morning? I think you underestimate her reaction. She'd spend a couple hours quickly putting things in order, then throw money at Strider to teleport her. 8 hours TOPS.

I find the President's order very understandable, as that's the way most INTELLIGENT leaders treat people who can contribute more over the long run. Granted, at HIS level that list generally DON'T include anyone else; but in this case, where she's ABSENTMINDELY shattering what had been previously immovable barriers like she's a distracted female Juggernaut (Marvel Villain) and not even NOTICING....

Yeah, I can see where the orders for protecting Taylor look like a laundry list of People who Do Bad Things for the Right Reasons. They've already quietly eliminated most of the possible parahuman elements that might have moved that way that are local. And by the time the more world wide organizations are alerted to things that's when the SERIOUS amusement factor will hit. As then it's going to Parahumans facing ALL sorts of neat and nasty tricks developed from Taylor's own skills by those People who Do Bad Things....

Ditto...

why do feel than Contessa "Path to sbeat Scion" will become "Path to escape from the psycotic girl who is making me fell weird!"?
Considering she's already having issues with Brockton Bay when trying to Path things there, I'd say it's close to an already established fact.

One of those ways raising the intriguing question of whether Parahumans really did have tiny little almost-portals inside their heads. And if they did, where did the other end go?

Taylor was definitely going to figure that one out.

And even more interestingly, she was going to figure out why there was a similar but subtly different phenomenon apparently somewhere in the house itself…
Hello, Queen Administrator. I see you are still hanging around Danny.

I hate to say it QA, but Best Host is currently unavailable and I'm pretty sure you don't want to be HALPING her as that way leads to dissection and/or vivisection for anything that will help advance the march of SCIENCE 3!!

And here's something about this story that I like; specifically that Taylor, while reshaping the world through SCIENCE!!, she's still taking the time to be the teenage girl she deserves to be.

Hmm, so this chapter once again mentions and lampshades how *implausibly* and unprecedentedly smart Taylor is; this is clearly a biological difference in her brain, and it isn't her being a parahuman, and it doesn't evolve the effect of a parahuman power or tinkertech since then she'd be observing these subspace traces in her own brain. But there has to be some cause; it's far outside the possibilities or normal genetic drift. The only option that's really left, then, is a genetic or biological alteration by mundane means. And her brain isn't physically larger than a normal human's. Something like iterated embryo selection, guided by a thinker power.

honestly, I can understand some of how smart Taylor is in this fic. She basically hit the genetic lotto for her smarts, but it's within limits. The hardest part about the situation would be understanding things- but she got a MASSIVE head start on that with the alien education channel. Who knows how many episodes she has of that too.... hell, it could be something set up similar to our "HELLO" message way back when.

I mean, sending a broadcast with lots of educational info in hopes of helping other species would be possible- maybe not the most intelligent, but if you have a Class 2~3? Civilization, I could see it. The Really Interesting Scale

regardless, this is a great story, it made my night even better having an update to read through!

Yeah, the idea that Taylor picked up a sub-space education channel for the purpose of providing a tech up-lift to other civilizations sounds a lot better than Taylor picking up something else.
The first option means the aliens are active looking to establish friendly contact with other and thus could see humans as an ally, potentially even offering to help 'Entity situation'. The alternative would involve the aliens being little more vaguely interesting in humans and offering even less help.

I always got the feeling that it was a multi-planet group that more or less streamed the information via subspace or similar. Taylor just happened to luck into find the channel (which is partly what SETI was, looking for signals).

From that, she got a decent head start on some things but is similar to Tony Stark, Reed Richards, or Bruce Wayne, being a polymath genius on the order of Leonardo da Vinci (who had a lot of ideas that were far ahead of his time).

That said, I can understand the order from the President, especially one that does focus on the nation, such a person would understand, perhaps not like, but understand just what Taylor means to the advancement of humankind. Within months, she's rewritten a lot of what they though they knew and at this point is pretty much saying, you need a million dollars of gold? We'll have it there tomorrow, just to find out she figure out how to transmute metals with math because they took to long.

anyway nom nom Wordz... and night time!

it could be that she is watching alien learning shows and slowly figuring out how to understand and speak languages that are nearly impossible to pronounce

Nothing wrong with that. You don't always have to advance the plot. And reading reactions from the world are fun to read. It's a reason I don't even mind PHO type interludes. They don't need to advance the plot, but just there to see reactions from every day citizens.
