The Earthling's Search; a Stellaris Quest

[X] Plan Muh Freedoms
[X] Beacon of Liberty: Human society is a shining beacon of light in a sea of darkness. Liberty and individual freedoms are held in the highest regard here.
[X] Free Haven: Human society has a well-earned reputation as a free haven. The tired, the poor, the huddled masses yearning to breathe free - all are welcome here, regardless of their species or origin.
[X] Meritocracy: An individuals' social station or personal connections should have no bearing on their profession. The sole basis for advancement in this society is demonstrated ability and talent.

[X] Meritocracy: An individuals' social station or personal connections should have no bearing on their profession. The sole basis for advancement in this society is demonstrated ability and talent.
[X]Shadow Council: Unbeknownst to its own citizens, this society is actually manipulated from behind the scenes by a secretive shadow council. Appearances must be kept, but the tyranny of the majority should also be guarded against. After all, what if the fools vote for the wrong candidate?
[X] Talented: Every human has a natural aptitude for something.

For some reason I imagine the result of this vote as RWBY's Ozluminaty, except more competent.

Meritocratic Shadow Council sounds like a lot of fun. I'm imagining something like that guy from the Council in X-Com who gives you missions. You never see his face, just a shadow person. That could be us.

Well. Since no-one hopped in on my bandwagon, I am changing vote to help Shadow Counsil beat out Charismatic, because the latter is just boring.

Its unlikely we'll get it though, everyone wants the boring old options
We might be able to shift to a less vanilla outlook during the quest, but it seems like people really want to go for standard good guys. I usually play as those, although as a Monarchy, so I was hoping for something a bit different.
Those options are not boring, they are fun.
They can be, but they just feel very much the same old thing at this point. The current winning vote is practically a sci fi standard for humans in space. I'm sure the GM will make them interesting for this quest, but I was hoping for some shadowy intrigue and sense of strings being pulled from behind the scenes.

Explain how their not boring, these things have been done before a million times, but never seen a Shadow Organization running the shots before,
Tell me how their not boring, I really do want to know.

More like we're never saw a not sinister conspiracy secret government with xenophilic trait and strong sway on all that is good and liberty, which is all kinds of interesting fun mix

I'd imagine the council would be full of non xenophiles, not xenophobic just guys pragmatic enough to ignore any love of the unknown.

Whoa there, I really doubt that xenophilic government will go all 'hard man making hard decisions'. Thought I was just hit with a damn amusing thought, with us being a vanilla humans and UN+ there are actually pretty big chances that Shadow Council are Illuminati

I didn't say that, just because your pragmatic isn't instantly hard man making hard decisions, being pragmatic is a little more nuanced than that

Let us drink hemlock brother and lead humanity to immense hatred and evil!

...Question are we going to have Elves in our game? I'd love to see some Drow Civs going around looking for slaves. It would be the perfect first enemy.
There is a Space Elf portrait...

So we get to make that xenophilia into a hoax? This quest may yet be salvaged.

[] Meritocracy: An individuals' social station or personal connections should have no bearing on their profession. The sole basis for advancement in this society is demonstrated ability and talent

How does this fundamentally differ from that egalitarism in the first vote?

[X] Nomadic: Humanity has a nomadic past, and its members often think nothing when relocation to another world.
[X] Resilient: Humans are physiologically resilient and will fight like enraged brood mothers to defend their worlds.

Guerilla warfare on galactic scale. Make them shed blood for every cubic millimetre of our planets, and should keeping the planet become infeasible, scorch it and move on.
Why would the people who make sure the leaders of the world can actually fulfill the job have a history of choosing people with xenophilic or egalitarian ideals if they didn't agree with them?
And America is (mostly) egalitarian without being a meritocracy - an egalitarian society doesn't necessarily believe that your parents shouldn't give you an advantage if they're advantaged.
The bolded part includes meritocracy already. While some people may accomplish more than others for a given amount of effort, they still have to work hard to accomplish anything noteworthy.
Just because you can rise to any position doesn't mean that every position has strict meritocratic requirements or that everyone worked their way up without any nepotism or bribery.

Another interpretation of the Shadow Council I just thought of is the Civil Service from Yes Minister - scheming to keep the country running without the personal biases of the ministers interfering.
Add some xenophobia and we'll be Cerberus.
Not realistically going to happen in this society.
I'd imagine the council would be full of non xenophiles, not xenophobic just guys pragmatic enough to ignore any love of the unknown.
The council will primarily be egalitarian xenophiles, like the rest of society.
I didn't say that, just because your pragmatic isn't instantly hard man making hard decisions, being pragmatic is a little more nuanced than that
I also doesn't mean you don't have ideals you intend to make reality - like humanity leading a federation of alien empires.

Because playing as classic good guys played straight is enjoyable and the best way of playing. Playing as arseholes like the vocal minority in this thread wants is boring and not fun and rather unenjoyable. Just because something has been done a lot doesn't make it boring, For example, there are a lot of space-based quests on SV. It doesn't make this one boring because it has been done before. After all, there is a reason things are done multiple times and it is because people like to do so because they find it fun and enjoyable.
