Squirrel Sect [Stone age] [Riot Quest] [Squirrels Cultivating]

The Sixth Sunrise of the Squirrel Sect.
Squirrel Sect

It has been almost one week within the Squirrel Sect and they are hard at work shaving down wood into bows and stringing them. They are preparing for battle tonight. When the owls come for once the squirrels will be ready for battle for the first time in their short lives. They will be armed, albeit poorly and unorganized but the weights of numbers and projectiles will have to serve none the less.

As the day goes on the tension rises. Everyone knows the owls come at night and they have to wonder will they survive? Will the squirrels they care about? How many names will be carved into stone to remember by the morning? More than a few most likely.

As the sun slowly sets the sect learns the worst part is the waiting before the fighting. Fear is a mind killer and you have nothing to do but ruminate on the danger and death that is coming. In the fighting you are busy, your goals are clear everything is simple and you are too busy to think. Before hand though being left alone with your thoughts? That is in many ways worse, you just want to be in the fight already.

You have never been so upset to get exactly what you wished for.

When the owls come they stay in groups of three, swooping down and grabbing three squirrels and flying back into the air. Blood rains down freely as squirrels are grabbed and crushed to death under the owls talons. However it is not the one sided slaughter it had been before.

More than once squirrels rush forward shooting arrows ahead of themselves and drive at least one owl off from the attack. Not much but some of the blood on the ground is not squirrel blood.

New Action: [Guard from the owls] Gaurds have a higher chance of dying but lower the chances of others dying.
Dead Squirrels: Several
Dead Cultivators:
@Random Member (dead)
@Drahcir (dead)
@SolAnon1 (Dead) (No longer cursed)
@kosi (dead)

Cultivation:
Toboe: In a moment of concentration and will you take that power inside of you and shatter it's containment. It flows through you like fire and lightning. You open your eyes feeling pure joy at the new strength in your limbs and the way your eyes are sharper and the world seems a little more colorful. Mostly red.

That's blood.

You spring to your feet drawing an arrow at the owl but it is busy gorging itself on the other four who had been cultivating. You run back to the safety of numbers to join the horde of squirrels chasing owls with their bow before the end of the night an arrow of yours finds an owls eye. The one eyed owl screams and stares at you as it flies away. It will be coming back for you.

Expedition:
Your group moves with surprisingly little haste it is a chance to cultivate and look for resources and so you cultivate and look for resources.
Yet time comes when you find the source of the smoke. Wild flame lashes through the trees and all manner of dangerous creature running away from the flames.

Occasionally lightning comes down in booming blasts starting new flames and destroying trees.
The energy of the fire, the death, the lightning, and everything else is thick in the air. There is a chance here to feed upon that energy and grow further but to do so is to risk death a dozen times over from flames, from lightning or from the energy of death itself from all the creatures that have died in this pyre.

You will gather what you can but you must decide how many of you will be torch bearer, a position that makes them much more obvious and also limits their ability to defend themselves.
SPIDER
"You have chosen to save your tribe the difficulty of burying you, it is the type of foolish fucking kindness I would expect of squirrels. Instead I will offer you this gather for me a great feast of bugs and I will provide you some protection from the beasts. My Qi Enhanced Webs can cut them to shreds if I wish it. I will have to maintain this web though and will require bugs every day in exchange."

Voting and Rolling
[SLIDE]
  • As a riot quest each quest-er is one newly awakened squirrel. So your vote is what you are choosing to do.
  • Each vote comes with a roll of a ten sided dice. (You need to edit your post to roll dice)
  • Any result of a 10 allows you to roll another dice (Repeating ad infinitum)
  • If someone roll's 3 consecutive 10's (Brute force with rerolls allowed) they earn an "Inspiration" that can be used in secret ways to benefit the players.
  • With rerolls you always take the highest result
Omakes and rerolls! Please read
  • Omakes are HIGHLY encouraged. Any omake 4 or more sentences comes with a reroll.
  • Limited to Earning one reroll a turn from an omake.
  • Rerolls must be used on the turn they are earned.
  • Rerolls are transferable to other players.
  • A second reroll is earned for doing any type of art or book keeping for the GM.
Resource Rules, Food and population
  • Some things are easier or harder to gather. This is represented by the "Modifier" on the resource table. Which can be changed by the season, research, tools or workshops. Modifier is multiplied by the total dice result for how much of a resource is gathered.
  • Each Squirrel in the Sect eats 1 food per turn.
  • If all Squirrels in the tribe die the quest is over.
  • If the Squirrel count gets significantly below the voter count, votes will be ignored at random until it matches the squirrel count.
Projects
  • Instead of doing individual items. Now items are made to complete a project which equips and improves the entire sect.
  • Projects do not require votes instead the item requirements must be met. Then the items will be removed and the bonus will be applied
Cultivation Rules
  • Everyone starts out at cultivation level 0
  • When Cultivating every action spent cultivating in a row provides an additional plus 1. (1 on the second turn, 2 on the third etc etc)
  • Cultivation Chambers can only be used by 1 person at a time (Per chamber)
  • Cultivation Chambers DOUBLES the cumulative cultivation bonus.(2 on the second turn, 4 on the third etc etc)
  • Cumulative Cultivation Bonus resets when you level up.
  • Cultivation requires hitting a certain number to level up, not a sum total.
  • Cultivators apply their level to ALL rolls.
  • Cultivators multiply their combat power by their cultivation level +1
  • Cultivators may gather and store qi up to their level. Qi can be spent on rerolls for themselves. HOWEVER ANY ROLL THAT USES QI IS INELIGIBLE FOR INSPIRATION/
  • Cultivators may store Qi up to their cultivation level.

[X] Awaken Other Squirrels (Costs 1 Qi Acorn every 5 progress awakens 1 additional squirrel)
As He of the Seventh Branch of the Seventh Tree on the Left contemplated Death and what lies Beyond, so too must He contemplate Life. More specifically, the transformation of simple life into that of His Kin.

And so, He traveled to the spot some of the Acorns were stored, and took one, before finding his lesser kin. And then, He infused an Acorn into his lesser kin and observed the process, unfortunately finding little of use.

So He tried again. And again.

A bit better than what we were hoping for. It gives an auto check. Though it doesn't give us a 'warn all other squirrels' action.
New Action: [Guard from the owls] Gaurds have a higher chance of dying but lower the chances of others dying.
I'm going to ask what cultivators we have at base to take this action. You're going to be the ones that stand the best chance of succeeding in it and the more of you that do it the safer you'll probably be as a group.

The bugs action is too expensive for us since the gather rate for bugs is 0.5 currently.

1Arthas1 made an art
Suddenly, Alonsus woke up, not because of the screams or the noise made by foolish squirrels doing foolish things late in the night; he wished it was that. What he heard and what woke him up was... Quiet—a deep and profound silence he could only hear his heartbeats—a silence that froze his bones and made his back rain in a cold sweat—a silence that every squirrel knows is bad for him or the nearby squirrels. More than once, you will be with a friend or family, sharing precious moments in our short lives, and then, in an abrupt silence, your instincts will tell you to run and find shelter. You don't know why, but wise squirrels who are quick to listen to their instincts will have the horror of noticing the blush of claws and feathers leaving you with drops of blood and realizing that you will never meet that special squirrel again. All the joy is replaced by nightmares for the rest of our short lives. The absence of sounds was the most terrifying sound you could hear in the forest because something was hunting, and you were the last one to notice it. Our hated enemy has arrived. HA! What a funny word! We were never their enemies; being their enemies meant we got a chance to fight them, something we never had. We said that to ourselves to help us sleep at night and have a light at the end of the tunnel. Maybe if we said that, one day we could live safely with our families and become so dangerous that the predators would leave us alone, but that time is not now. But near the Qi gave us something Squirrelkind had never hoped for: a new future. Ahhh, this word "hope" is exquisite and truly worthy of dying for. Perhaps that bright future is beyond my reach, but someday a squirrel will be able to sleep on the ground and dream of wonderful things while staring up at the bright stars above. A squirrel will never have experienced terror or the loss of a loved one. Until then, it is time to cry for the deaths and endure, because if we stay like this, more squirrels will die tomorrow, and we will never have that future. Let's see where I could help.

[X]Gather wood
Edit:that was bad , gotta reroll it later
Thanks Froggo

Omake time!

Sharp tooth the squirrel wasn't hungry.
As matter of fact, he could even be said to be, dare he say it... full.

Such a state was a rarity to him, still with the immense bounty he had found he was finally allowed to gorge as he wished.
Now normally he would just go nap or plan his next meal, but one of his fellow squirrels has mentioned to him that they need to gather wood for the pointy sticks making.

Now he had retorted that he thought the idea stupid, after all, they were in the forest! surrounded by wood on all sides.
Still, the squirrel had stubbornly declared the tree wood bad and that he needed the broken floor wood.

Now sharptooth still thought it was silly, wood is wood after all, but he was feeling full and generous so he had decided to venture on to gather some of the "floor wood".
Wandering around in the forest for a while sharp tooth discovered a major issue! he found little floor wood, and worse , he was getting less full.
And if enough time would pass, he might even get hungry
UNACCAPTABLE!.

Stopping in place sharptooth began to think before an idea sparng to his mind as he examined the tree in front of him.
Maybe floor wood and regular wood werent so different after all.
All he needed to do was to make the tree wood into floor wood no?.
Giriding himself sharp tooth took an heroic leap into the air launching himself at the vulnerable bark of the tree.
[Squirrel arts -Biting the Acorns!]
With his mighty teeth he shall cleave the tree in twain and return home to gorge himself in victor-
"Oh" sharp tooth blinked as his teeth were immobilized withing the bark.
Giving a few experimental tugs the conclusion seemed obvious,He was stuck.

Maybe that squirrel had a point after all

[X] Cultivate: (Cost 1 Qi Acorn and requires an omake. Omake still grants reroll.)

It looked at the food it had gathered, and was satisfied. It was dedicated to the providing of food for it and the others- this it had proven through its efforts. Now, now that they had *enough* it was time to rest- for they had two paws worth for each squirrel and if that was not enough then nothing would be.

The others had specific squeaks they used to call for each other. Different than the simple attention-call that all knew and used. As he laid down in his burrow for a deep rest he wondered how they has gotten the others to always use their specific squeaks. He wondered if he could get them to do the same.

It was strange. Food usually consumed his thoughts, but now he had food, and now he could think of things other than food. He wondered if he'd think of things in the morning too.

The hunger of the forest was overwhelming to the Great Devourer Kirbo. No matter what he said, he was but one buff squirrel, the fire had spread so far, so fast, and it continued to consume the forest around him. It was entrancing in a way he couldn't quite describe, it wasn't like his way of consuming the stones, the wood, and the food that he ate in the past, but it was clearly related in an all too visceral manner.

The world might not be prepared for kirbo, but he wasn't quite prepared for the world either.

[X] Wood Mastery 1 [71/100]

The bows had helped, thank the trees, but it wasn't enough.

It wasn't enough!

Armor was too complicated, and took too much wood. Spears were better there, but still woefully insufficient. Shelters could come only after the spears were done. That meant the only option was, well, better bows.

He bent back the new shape, testing it for durability and draw strength. Better, but not enough. Not enough. Never enough.

There was work to be done. So much work to be done.

The foolish leaf that once thought itself a wise stone considered for a moment what it would take to defend the home. It was likely too much, too many squirrels would fall even if those whom had cultivated before worked to protect them. Something more needed to be done. Something in between needed to be done.

Logic, reasoning, understanding. In the long run these would save the squirrels. In the long run this would be what would protect the sect.

Foolish Leaf looked at the bow in paw. The long run may not come at this rate. Perhaps a fool was needed to close that gap.

He would love nothing more but to make some hats.

But there where matters far more pressing then his personal desires, what good are hats if there's nobody to wear them?

The owls had to be dealt with first, and while the bows where a great boon it's clear their utilization was lacking.

They needed to be better organized, and have a better plan of attack, there wasn't much time to come up with one yesterday, and that would have to be rectified.

Just simple things to start, lining up to not get in eachother's way, aiming where the owl will be instead of where they are. Any plan beats no plan.

Before he got started an errant thought entered his mind, a pleasant one. Of how great of hats owl feathers could make

Owls are attacking Next turn

The passive is certainly great and all (I'm hoping I'll have a chance to develop it further) but I can't help but think "is there any turn where the Owls aren't attacking us right now?" :V

Blood.

So much blood.

So many squirrels slaughtered, and how many of them young cultivators cut down just as they had awoken their innate power?

It tore the cultivator of awareness up inside. It pained him to know that their lives had been cut short. He grieved for them.

He knew that more death was to come. He knew that the Squirrels had not died without drawing blood of their own.

He would do what he could to ensure that when the owls returned, the squirrels would know of their approach and have the warning they needed to ensure the Owls would pay for their aggression in blood.

[X] Use Dao of Awareness to keep alert for the Owl's approach so the Squirrels can be alerted of and be prepared for their approach.

(I'm thinking of this action in terms of whereas the passive lets me know that they're attacking, this active action will hopefully instead let us be aware of their approach so we're not caught off-guard by them actually being here.)

I still like rocks.
I don't care about the owls. Squirrels always die. Owls, and foxes, and hunger, and cold, and fire, and spiders, and-
Rocks. Yes, hmm... I want to work with rocks. Cut them up. Bang them together, sharpen them.
But the owls... There are so many... That all the squirrels might die. Even me.
Need spears. Yes. More rocks later, if I make pointy sticks to use now.

The Avenger could taste the blood. So thick in the air was it that, even in his little crafting nook, the iron flavour seeped in through his nose, tainting his taste buds as he works. He has heard the battle cries of his brothers and sisters, joined them in the defense against the accursed sky-dwellers, but their bows were insufficient, most of their arrows going wide and the few that hit not going deep enough to do more than draw a few drops of blood. They needed something with more penetrative power, that still had the reach to evade the owls claws. He knew what he needed to make.

[X] Awaken Other Squirrels (Costs 1 Qi Acorn every 5 progress awakens 1 additional squirrel)
The strange, pale squirrel has been suffering from strange dreams as of late...
Dreams of an endless forest of grasping claws and weeping stars...
Normally the squirrel would ignore such visions, it was not unusual for such things to occur ever since awakening from its mindlessness...
But these dreams were different, for amidst the unnatural leaves and aching hunger, small, darting shadows could be seen...
The strange squirrel (on account of the people watching it was doing of late) happened to recognize these figures from their movements...
They were the squirrels who had passed recently...
Suddenly, the squirrel awakened with a jolt, and found, upon reflection, the image of a structure, no... an Altar, within its mind...
Unfortunately, on account of the ongoing war, the squirrel could not use the needed stone to craft the resplendent image within it saw...
Soon, though, soon we shall be one step closer to rendering Death's wicked grasp upon us meaningless.
