You Think, Therefore You Are (A 5E D&D Slime Quest)

Okay, here me out: The College of Whispers. We get decent Psychic Sword Damage, We get irrational fear causing, we get shadow stealing, which is both even more magical disguises, as well as a broad-level understanding of the victim that'll let us pretend to be them convincingly (and if we steal their form our racial way, we're basically a doubled-up perfect mimic that can flawlessly steal not only their physical appearance but also their identity), and we'll eventually get the blackmail version of that psychic paper from Doctor Who.

That is impossible, since both Mnemonic Echoes & Mantle of Whispers require our reaction when the choosen target dies, since we have only one reaction, using both on the same target is mechanically impossible

No Bard works good solo. (I'd argue practically any character can't operate solo, but Bard even more-so)

Gotta have to agree with first bit, but I disagree with the second bit

Many classes can go solo, Druids for example are the ones that the can easily win several 1v3 encounters as long as they have spell slots up, paladins are pretty much undying fighting machines with Lay on Hands and smite, even Sword bards can go solo That being said, I agree that all classes work better in a group, simple because they were designed to work as groups

Normally I wouldn't do a tally this early, but I'm interested in seeing what we've got right now.

@Novus Ordo Mundi

Given how many currently vote for CoW, could you hint to the fact the Mantle of Whispers cannot be used in combination with Mnemonic Echoes

Because I'm pretty sure what most guys are going for, given that this was chocolote12 original idea when going the this College

Edit: And I'm not sure how many people are aware of this fact

I knew it was the case when I voted for it, and I'm fine with that thanks.

Here's my thought based off of what little I know of D&D and what lot I assume of high fantasy settings with slimes:

By default people assume us less than a proper threat.
Shapeshifting reduces that threat even more until people find out about it.
Charm spells/buffs reducing our threat presentation even more...

I believe its easy to see the route I'm curious about here. Having our main defense be a near absolute set of stacked "nah, this is fine" situations around our blobbyboi until it's time to get face melting and such.

Nah, slimes are bad news. Liable to eat you if you aren't careful, with all sorts of nasty abilities depending on the kind. Like, a bunch of them can spawn off clones if they take slashing damage. They'll heal from certain elemental damage. They're resistant (take half damage) from a bunch of types. The corrosive ones can destroy non-magical weapons and armor.

So Operation Living Lotus is feasible within the setting?

No idea what that means.

Article:
In Greek mythology the lotus-eaters (Greek: λωτοφάγοι, lōtophagoi), also referred to as the lotophagi or lotophaguses (singular lotophagus/ləˈtɒfəɡəs/) or lotophages (singular lotophage/ˈloʊtəfeɪdʒ/), were a race of people living on an island dominated by lotus plants. The lotus fruits and flowers were the primary food of the island and were a narcotic, causing the inhabitants to sleep in peaceful apathy. Figuratively, 'lotus-eater' denotes "a person who spends their time indulging in pleasure and luxury rather than dealing with practical concerns".

In short, we become a mimic that lulls others into complacency, through shapeshifting and spell buffs.

And then eat them.

Seriously, I really like this idea. People would go "They're a Bard. Bards are fun, but they're not dangerous." so we sing a few songs and lull them into near-sleep and then devour them and steal their faces. Bonus points if our disguise is something like a Halfling or some other harmless-looking race.
