You Are A Dragon

[X] Healing, Resting, Recouperating.
[X] Establish A Dragon Palace.

I'd like to eat that admiral. Maybe crucify him. Anyway, Sulquum has one I think and it's not much compared to what Etorix earned. Not to mention that you know, having a place to stay far from his lair could certainly help.

(Also, as a god having the biggest temple around is only going to impress the faithful more.)

And last but not least, healing is important. The Benefactors can do disaster relief, it's their mess after all.

[X] Healing, Resting, Recouperating.
[X] Establish A Dragon Palace.

While I would prefer to help out villagers and promulgate our glory, the risk of being defeated is unpleasantly high.

Does anyone know how we got from 6 magic to 4?

I remember that we spent 2 magic (10->8) to port into the Arc, and 2 more for negotiations(8->6). More recently, we spent 1 magic later to heal the faithful (4->3) and another to shield ourselves last update (3->2). But how did we get from 6 to 4?

That was a typo, now fixed to show the correct value.

  • [X] Capture Sulqueum. She has given you a ferocious battle and thus proved herself a worthy foe. Defeat her then let her survive in return for a tribute of wealth, a portion of her undoubtedly massive hoard. If she does not pay up? Destroy her cities and let her be known as a dragon not worth letting live. This would also demonstrate to other dragons that you are not seeking dragonicide and so can be dealt with reasonably. (Gain 30ish Wealth with 3 point of infused magic, plus not be Dragon Enemy No 1. Might get cut up by Sulqueum, she can still fight back).

Destroy her cities and let her be known as a dragon not worth letting live. This would also demonstrate to other dragons that you are not seeking dragonicide and so can be dealt with reasonably. (Gain 40ish Wealth with 4 points of infused magic, plus not be Dragon Enemy No 1. Might get cut up by Sulqueum, she can still fight back).
[X] Kill Sulqueum. She has spent her strength and is now more badly injured than you, whilst you are strengthened with divine power. She can no doubt still put up a fight but you can overhaul and slay her, eat her, take power from her and leave her hoard unclaimed (Gain 30ish magic from eating Sulqueum, though she can still fight back).
[X] Shield Yourself. Concentrate your divine aura around yourself to weather the blast then follow up in its aftermath once your enemies have been struck by it. (Spend 1 magic, 2 remaining).
    [X] Destroy The Fighters.
    [X] Kill Sulqueum
[X] Kill Maven. He has wronged you in the past and must suffer for it, dive down before he can hit the sea, where he would not doubt hide and escape. Destroy him, he is helpless to resist you and you can regain spent magic from his corpse. (Gain 10ish magic from eating Maven, basically no risk).

So right now literally every single vote is for:

[X] Healing, Resting, Recouperating.
[X] Establish A Dragon Palace.

I shall start working on an update.

Also I was double incorrect when it came to magic totals, your current level is 4 (out of 150 maximum), not six. Originally you guesstimated that you would receive 4 from tribute treasures but you both received more loot and less magic than your original estimates. This was due to Sulqueum apparently having a vast fortune she had been stockpiling in the current 'cycle'.

Your likely very accurate guesstimate is that she subtly took control of either a major government or a vast swathe of guilds during the drought of magic followed by using this groundwork to establish her current political supremacy. Also she does directly rule a continent and it is a fair assumption that the largest item in her national budget is 'shiny things for the head dragoness'

...
That would imply we got zero magic from tribute.

As I understand it, we should have been at 5 going into the fight and 4 after using our shielding.
Our listed magic reserve the start of the turn we got the chance to store magic was 3. Meaning we entered the fight with 4. We spent 1 turn 15 and another turn 16 ending up at 2 when we got the 2 from the hoard.

And that value was wrong. We had spent 2 on teleportation, 2 on negotiation, and 1 on healing, from a start of 10. That should have left us at 5 at the time, not 3.
You appear to be correct, 10 - 2 (teleport) - 2 (brainwash) - 0 (careful return) - 1 (healing) = 5 while we were labeled as having 3 at turn 10. Was it pointed out at the time?

What kind of monetary system is being used? Fiat money or hard currency? I suggest switching to fiat if at all possible.. Then have all the nations gold stored with the dragon! Free wealth..

Okay, done with work for the week and the maths above looks to be correct for magic.

You started with 10, you spend 2 on orbital teleporting, 2 on brainwashing, 1 on healing, leaving you at 5.

One more spend in the fight taking you down to 4, you are getting two more from the tribute bringing you up to six. I will update the front page.

@Genji Right now every country is using fiat money at the national level but they are transitional, quite a few of the smaller scale governments such as individual Republics within Hatwar still use hard currency, or mint low denomination coins that are worth at least a significant portion of their face value because acceptance of fiat currency is low especially in more rural areas. This does leave them extremely vulnerable to currency manipulation and resulting economic turmoil.

Also there is almost no mining of gold or silver ore, basically everything was mined out millennia ago. Precious metals are either imported from space during periods of high technology, recycled, or mined from past civilisations. Alternatively looted from dragon hoards which is where most of it resides.

"Oh, great and mighty Etorix! Our burgeoning electronics industry could really benefit from having some modest quantities of gold for making electrical contacts that resist corrosion, but all the gold on this planet has long since been stolen by dragons and incorporated into their hoards. Could you, maybe, go beat up a dragon or two and liberate their gold for us?"

"Absolutely! This won't take long."

**********

"I'm back! Took out three young dragons, found their lairs and hoards. Piece of cake. You may now make appropriate displays of awe and reverence."

"Oh, mighty Etorix, broad of wing and stout of tail, can we actually have some of that gold now? As was the point of the original request? Right now we're stuck making serial port connectors out of aluminum?"

"Yeah, no. All that gold is part of MY hoard now. Get your own."

or he could end up giving a loan, as in you pay back 20% interest over the course of a decade...thus giving us a large amount of wealth in the future! of course since there's no gold on the planet, just send people to mine asteroids! especially if the guys in the space ships tow them into stable orbit and we can drag them carefully down for mines to deal with! Also isn't platinum worth more then gold in medieval settings?

Realistically the nearby solar system has probably been mined over the course of the eons the planet has been cyclically capable of space flight. Thus for any true acquisition of significant amounts of gold we will need to venture out and conquer other dragons, their planets, and their hoards. Or invent nuclear fusion.

Update 18 - Recuperation & Palaces
[] Healing, Resting, Recuperating. You hurt, you are badly injured and it is plausible that a fresh juvenile dragon, either particularly potent or willing to expend magic, could defeat you right now if you were caught alone.
[] Establish A Dragon Palace. Right now you are 'living' in an admittedly fancy square, you would rather not completely re purpose your existing temple either. Spend some of the wealth, only portions which are not infused, to have a massive temple palace constructed where you can then recline upon the rest. (Expend 5 Wealth, start construction of a ridiculously ostentatious and dragon sized palace).

You do not remain long after making your announcement, lingering only to pass on some direct guidance and pointers to your local priesthood and spend a few hours healing some dozens of sick and injured faithful brought to you, limiting yourself to what you can achieve using ambient magic and the flow of power from your worshippers.

At the end of the day you instruct your local high priest to pass the message on to the council and Hatwar, you will not be immediately returning but must recover from your battle with Sulqeum. In truth? You dare not linger long enough for another dragon to learn of your presence then respond to it. From her words and your intelligence concerning the 'Illdntia Dragonarchy' there were at least a dozen juvenile dragons who did not attend your disastrous 'parley', she no doubt brought only the most loyal of her followers, those who also might have considered themselves as having a chance at being her mate.

Which was sensible given that if she had brought the entire group then she would probably have been murdered by jealous female dragons once you weakened her.

Still after you have made a dramatic departure you soar painfully westward and out to sea, followed by prop planes that you rapidly outdistance before shapeshifting yourself into an eagle. Once you are sure that you have ditched any possible tail you return to the western coast of the main continent of Hatwar, assume an anonymous human form then make a withdrawal from a secure account you set up in their banking system.

You are an ancient and cunning dragon after all, of course you transferred some of your church's funds into accounts you could secretly access.

With money available you then journey to the capital before securing a seat on an intercontinental passenger flight to the Alheri States, the seaplane requiring quite a number of hops and taking a frustratingly long time especially as you spend most of it in pain and using low level illusion magic to hide your injuries.

Still this is much faster than flying in the form of a bird and leaves you very much not a dragon, within the week you have returned to your lair without, you are fairly sure, giving away even which hemisphere it resides in.

The next few months pass rather in a blur as you sprawl across your hoard and soak in the much depleted but still lingering magic, your flesh knitting, scales regrowing, wing membrane healing over. You do not leave things completely unmanaged though.

Focusing your mind during periods of lucidity you visit the minds of a number of your high priests to gift them with personal messages and instructions, some to do with the uplift program but others to do with just how your tribute is to be handled. True to her word Sulqeum does despatch numerous ships full of treasures to Hatwar, along with conventional naval escort. This show of tribute from a recent rival and enemy does go down well in the capital though perhaps not perfectly as it becomes obvious this tribute it to you not to the government, population or nation.

This is somewhat ameliorated though as your priests begin construction of your temple palace just outside of the city. Some might question why such impossible wealth should be lavished on luxury but then almost all have seen you, a literal living god, also there is the promise of thousands of jobs for years as the true scale becomes apparent. Tens of thousands even, perhaps hundreds of thousands, you are spending roughly as much as the entire annual gross national product of the Hatwar Republics.

Of course much of what you are 'spending' is in the form of the bullion coins in the treasure delivered and to try to avoid inflation too wild you have carefully spaced out the rate it will be spent over the proposed course of the project, right now work is being carried out on the immense foundations of your palace whilst the treasures are stockpiled in warehouses under the guard of the burliest and most devout of your faithful. Still you are eager to arrive and inspect your new acquisitions in person not to mention taste any stored magic.

Despite your best efforts you are operating remotely though and small number of infused coins are spent or purloined, there is a rash of incidents as human mages in the city get access to them and perform to them amazing feats.

By the time you are recovered and able to make your return to the capital you have quite a few issues piling up on your 'to do' list, or things you are being clamoured to address by various humans.

[] Continue The Uplift Schedule. You are ultimately on a time limit, you cannot allow petty issues to distract you from this.
[] Meet With The Hatwar Government. Given that your battle apparently sunk dozens of civilian ships, smashed up a city and devastated hundreds of miles of coastline, the Hatwar government is very keen on meeting with you to establish formal relations and assurances. This will likely be very time consuming.
[] Head Into Orbit. Obviously you need to give closer supervision to the Benefaction Mission and whilst their technology is impressive they are not really able to content with relics from the last era or magic wielding dragons on even terms. Added to that they have just lost one of their only real warships and a good portion of their fighters. They need help with uplift. Also the admiral may have sort of tried to kill you.
[] Examine Treasures. You have just been gifted with a vast treasure, even budgeting the least interesting things to pay for your new palace and knowing that Sulqueum will have sent you only that of her hoard views as most expendable you are sure there must be all sorts of lovely and interesting things there. You need to get to know it, wallow in it, identify dragon killing magical swords and similar issues. Etorix really wants to do this as well because he loves treasure.
[] Grand Tour. Make a grand tour of major cities and your temples, letting people see their god, expanding your faith, peering into the minds of your priests and ensuring they are on the right track and carrying out local scale, less efficient, uplift activities as you go.
[] Other. Write in.

Magic 6 (of 145 max), another point will be gained from Faith in 3 months.

We've got some house-cleaning to do frankly. And Admiral Gun-jumper needs to explain how he cost his pals a warship, some fighters and mostly got his butt kicked and screwed the pooch in terms of our attempt at diplomacy.

[X] Head Into Orbit.

I would love to take a dive into the new treasures, but I want to nail the admiral to a cross more. Also fuck that, we can't have him backstab us again if that was his intention.

@Packrat, do we get any kind of special revenge reward for eating the treacherous admiral?
