Well, I was going to do this anyway, so.

  • [x] Plan Turtle
    -[X] Military strategy and diplomacy:
-[X] Eddard will go North and Robb will stay south. The heir to Winterfell has proven himself an adept commander, and it has been too long since its Lord saw his lady wife.
--[X] Send a veteran force with many scouts north of the Wall to scout and find out more about this foe. Scouting should be spread in a wide but interconnected net to ensure communication between scouts. Ask for the aid of the Night's Watch in this endeavour. Their knowledge of the terrain and regular dangers will prove invaluable to the mission's success. The Night's Watch is dangerously low on manpower and supplies. Provide them what aid we can by sending prisoners, volunteers and a variety of supplies their way. Perhaps the gold gained from the Lannister's can pay for this? Call upon the aid of the Northern mountain clans and their hardy warrior, some of whom still speak the Old Tongue. Make sure that Ned asks for this assistance personally, since they're unlikely to be moved my messengers.
--[X] For now, House Stark must look to their own. Do not make any further announcements in support to any of the contenders for the Iron Throne. Stannis might be the rightful heir to Robert but none of them have yet proven worthy of our loyalty or support. Adopt a defensive posture in the Riverlands and clear out any remaining bandits and Lannister stragglers. Fortify strategic positions and crossing in the Riverlands and attempt to ensure the peasants can conduct one last harvest before winter. Any attack by the Lannisters, Renly or Stannis will be met with force, though a measured response should be taken against Renly. Robb will lead these operations in the Riverlands from Harrenhal with strong garrisons along the Southern and Western border but the threat of the Ironborn must not be neglected and Seagard should be defended vigilantly. The same holds true for the border with the Vale, though this is a lower priority than the South and West.
--[X] Gregor Clegane will be executed immediately and his head will be sent to Dorne. Such a monster can't be allowed to live and the late king's justice must be carried out in full.
--[X] Send word of Littlefinger's actions to the nobles houses of the Vale and ask them to ensure he finds no shelter in the Vale. Alongside this message, feelers should be sent to determine if he can be captured as well as the general mood towards the war. Catelyn and Edmure should contact their sister to attempt to gain some form of support in the war as a sibling. However, this is just as much an attempt to gauge Lysa's mood and preferences as it is a genuine call for support.
    -[X] Marriages and inheritance:
-[X] Ask Lady Whent and Edmure to make Rickon heir to Harrenhal
--[X] Arrange a marriage between Edmure and Alyssane Lefford with the second son getting the Golden Tooth.
--[X] Arrange a marriage between Bran and one of the Manderly daughters, who in turn will support the construction of a new, well-protected port along the Western shores of the North, potentially along a rivermouth of one of the rivers in the Rills or the Fever River. This will be partially funded with the money gained from the Lannister reparations and ransoming of Westerland nobility.
--[X] Hold off on betrothals for Robb, Sansa and Arya. See how the war develops before making decisions here.
-[X] Northern noble house initiatives and miscellaneous:
--[X] Encourage House Glover to experiment with ship construction at Deepwood Motte with ironwood from House Forrester (Their vassal) and have House Manderly send advisors.
--[X] Encourage Houses along the Western coast to support the construction of a new, fortified port in order to revitalize the region and protect against potential Ironborn aggression.
--[X] Encourage vassals to forge closer ties with the mountain clans. They are our brethren and in these times of trouble, we can't afford to be divided.
--[X] Have Arya and a search party look for her direwolf. We don't want Nymeria running around the Riverlands.
--[X] Seek out more of Robert's bastards and help them all have decent lives, whether that's as smiths in Winterfell or merchants growing rich off of the timber and fur trade.
    [X] Plan Fortify
-[X] Eddard will go North and Robb will stay south. The heir to Winterfell has proven himself an adept commander, and it has been too long since its Lord saw his lady wife.
-[X] Send as many scouts and rangers out as possible, in a wide but closely connected net, so that if one disappears or dies, the others know of it. Order them to bring you word of whatever they hear or see. Simultaneously, order for a small host to be gathered near the Long Lake.
-[X] Say nothing in regards to Stannis or Renly. We may have declared for Stannis, but we owe him nothing; he did nothing to aid Lord Eddard in his danger, as should be his duty. Vassalage is a two-way street - if Stannis wants the powers of it, let him prove he also honors its responsibilities. As For Renly, we have no quarrel with him; the Riverlands are ours, and should he want anything of them or us, let him come and ask. But while you do not offer anything to either lords, use this time wisely: fortify, fortify, fortify. Attacks could be coming from all directions. With Baelish in the wind and knowing that Lysa is under his influence, there may come trouble from there. You can't trust the Westerlands to stay silent either for too long. Also, suggest advantageous marriages between Northern and Riverlander noble families to tie the two realms closer together.
-[X] See who has lost the most due to Clegane's rampage and offer that lord to take his head. Before the execution, send out an invitation to Dorne. They can attend the execution if they manage to get there on time and if they want the body afterwards to do whatever they want to do with it, that's fine with us.
-[X] Send a message to all the Lord and Ladies of the Vale regarding the recent occurrences. Express surprise that Lysa did not come aid her siblings, but understanding that she may not have been able to do so. Proclaim Petyr Baelish to be a traitor who killed Jon Arryn and desires to rule the Vale. Hint that Lysa might have been involved in Arryn's death somehow due to her close relationship with Baelish, without outright saying it.
-[X] Negotiate with all the major Northern houses for Robb's betrothal and then chose the one who you need to bind the most to you and offers you most.
-[X] Take up negotiations for Sansa's betrothal with some of the major Vale houses, preferred outcome here being either Harry Hardying or one of the Royces
-[X] It is a bit too early to make commitments for Arya's betrothal. She's young yet and too willful. But keep on the lookout for good marriage prospects advantageous to the war and who could handle Arya. You want her to be happy, after all, and for a second Lyanna Stark not to happen.
-[X] Try to betroth Bran to Lord Lefford's daughter (see below).
-[X] For Theon, speak to the Mormonts and the Manderlys about a possible betrothal to Theon, but don't push. If one of them is inclined to agree, talk to Theon and convince him that you're doing him a favor, wanting him happy, and rediscovering his heritage by giving him strong allies on the coast. Make it seem like he has a choice (he doesn't, of course). Send a letter to Pyke using Theon's progress as a warrior as pretense (talk about all the things that would impress an Ironborn), casually mention that you shattered the Lannisters and that the Westerlands are almost unprotected now, though do not make it seem like you want Balon to attack them. Perhaps if you don't tell them to attack the Westerlands, but give them the information that they're ripe for the picking, they will attack the Westerlands. Also, fortify the North against possible Ironborn attacks, while you are at it, just in case.
-[X] Betroth Bran to Lord Lefford's daughter. Sweeten the deal by having Lady Whent name Bran her heir. Make it so that when they're married, one son will inherit Harrenhal, one son will inherit the Golden Tooth. Meanwhile, Lord Lefford's daughter should be invited as a lady-in-waiting for Catelyn, so that she might meet her betrothed. Have the Blackfish act in Bran's place until Bran is of age, should direct action be necessary in Harrenhal (should Lady Whent die) or in other such cases.
    [X] Plan Hedge Our Bets
-[X] Execute Ser Gregor and send his head to Prince Doran. He was sentenced to death under King Robert, with the sentence carried out by his loyal Wardens of the North, the Stark; let that be an end to it. Still, Princess Elia deserves justice, so they now have it (if we have Amory Lorch, do the same for him).
Indicate a willingness to betroth Sansa to Robin Arryn, and should that not work out, to Harrold Hardyng.
-[X] Along with Gregor Clegane's head, send a message to Prince Doran, indicating willingness to betroth Arya* to Quentyn or Trystane Martell.
-[X] Speak with Lord Lefford and his daughter about betrothing Alysanne to Bran. Should they (most likely) refuse, offer instead a betrothal between Edmure Tully** and Alysanne
-[X] Speak to Lady Whent and Edmure Tully about making Rickon*** heir to Lady Whent.
-[X] Send a force of men with Arya to find her direwolf. Nobody wants that beast to become feral and terrorize the Riverlands.
[X] Plan: Secure the East, burn the West
-[X] Eddard will go North and Robb will stay south. The heir to Winterfell has proven himself an adept commander, and it has been too long since its Lord saw his lady wife.
-[X] Send as many scouts and rangers out as possible, in a wide but closely connected net, so that if one disappears or dies, the others know of it. Order them to bring you word of whatever they hear or see. Simultaneously, order for a host of decent size to be gathered near the Long Lake
-[X] Edmure Tully will gather a host and lead defensive operations in the south from Harrenhall, making sure to clear out Lannister bandits and eliminate them whilst keeping up a defensive posture, Robb will take the Northmen to attack the West as he did in canon, burn than, scatter their hosts and loot it.
-[X] Send a message to all the Lord and Ladies of the Vale regarding the recent occurrences. Express surprise that Lysa did not come aid her siblings, but understanding that she may not have been able to do so. Proclaim Petyr Baelish to be a traitor who knew of Joffrey's origins and betrayed Lord Stark. Betroth Robb to Ysilla Royce and send the Blackfish with 1000 men to hunt him down.
-[X] Ask Lady Whent and Edmure to make Rickon heir to Harrenhal
-[X] Enter negotiations with the Northern Lords for Sansa's hand. Her hand will be used to find a good match and reward the Northern Lords for their loyalty
-[X] Enter negotiations with Lord Leo Lefford to betroth Edmure to his daughter
-[X] Execute Ser Gregor and send his head to Prince Doran. He was sentenced to death under King Robert, with the sentence carried out by his loyal Wardens of the North, the Stark; let that be an end to it

You think Danaerys wouldn't seek the deaths of the Starks? She hates them as much as the Lannisters. At the very least, she'll want Ned dead, since he participated in the rebellion, as well as the Blackfish. Even if we don't back a King and stay North, she'll still want payback.

Hoping Dany gets 'smart' instead of going Viserys mode.

*checks thread*

o_O

... So... Are we going to continue the quest somewhere else? SB or QQ?
Is it a permaban?

No?

Then shut your whine-hole and get back to the quest.

Hoping Dany gets 'smart' instead of going Viserys mode.
If we're doing this as largely-magicless, it's not impossible that Dany dies somewhere in the Dothraki Sea or the Red Waste.

Thanks. I hadn't got to see the other Plans.

I kinda like Plan Fortify if not for the bit about marriages. Hedge Our Bets also looks nice.

I think it's going too far to imply Lysa killed Jon Arryn however.
Plan Turtle doesn't look too bad, but I'm not sold on the marriage alliances. Betrothing Bran is going to be a headache and a half, all things considered: on paper he's second in line to inherit Winterfell if Ned and Robb bite it, but the whole paraplegic thing makes trying to marry him off look like an insult to whoever you make the offer to. A difficult situation, to be sure.

On another note, I have a cunning idea.

Betrothing Bran to Myrcella. Then, once Tyrion takes control of Casterly rock (assuming Cersei and Jaime lose the war to one of the Baratheon Bros), he can legitimize Myrcella and make her heir to the place (since he's not going to give it to Joffrey because the kid's a cunt. Tommen's the only problem, and we could probably convince him its safer). Bran and Myrcella take control of the place. Which means the great Stark alliance expands to control of the Westerlands.

And there is a possibility such a marriage could even be loving, since I'm pretty sur Myrcella at least felt attracted to Bran when they met in Winterfell, and I could totally see her having a crush on him.

Also it's cute together, dammit.

Whoa there, that was really hostile for no reason. :???: This is the first quest I've participated that's had this problem, so I was just asking other participants if Charcolt had taken it elsewhere.
They're not actually being aggressive with you, they're just over-exaggerating their statement for comedic effect; they were just saying don't worry about it and just carry on as you would otherwise.

Charcolt will either appeal, wait out the suspension, or move elsewhere. In the event of the former two, you'll know; in the event of the latter, you can just check SB.

If that was indeed the case then in my defense it's way too easy to mistake tone over the internet.

Anyway, @Versharl, regarding Plan Turtle. Is the plan just to hold onto Tywin and Tyrion for now in a wait-and-see approach? Personally I like it because it withholds the Lannisters of all but one of their competent commanders (Kevan) so they're basically waiting to die at the hands of the Baratheons. And Joffrey's definitely going to help things along there by antagonizing his populace... especially a populace that knows him to be a bastard.

I'm actually disappointed we'll be out of the city and won't get a first-hand POV of that glorious downfall.

Well, in order for the marriage to be consummated, Bran will have to 'preform'. If he can't, the marriage is void as far as I know, though Northern traditions might differ from those of the South.

Well, the marriage would definitely be with Wylla and not Wynafryd, which leaves more than enough time for procreation. 6 years isn't really that big of an age difference, so I don't see how it would hurt the chances of a compatible marriage.
EDIT:

.

So we should have an alternative incentive for the Manderly ready. Or just go with that instead of Bran from the get go. The question is what though?

Does it count if we wargs into somebody else in order to consumate?

I don't think so. Bran still could be capable though. Canon hasn't confirmed it either way but Ned did say that he could be Lord of his own castle someday (GOT Arya....III?), so that suggests that he still might be able.

Whats wrong with offering Robb himself to the Manderlys? From canon itself I think Wylla would be a great match with Robb and a fierce lady of Winterfell.

I don't think I'd mind.

A good amount of people were thinking Robb should take a Northern bride anyway. But others wanted to keep his options open.

Though for the purposes of the port/shipbuilding deal, I think we should offer the Manderlys an incentive besides a marriage (to Bran).

We want to keep him free if we need to make any arrangements done in the south (Tyrell marriage, Daneyrs or others). If we end up not needing to make a marriage in the south to help resolve the situation then Wylla or another Northern bride.

[X] Plan Turtle

With Robb's rep it makes sense to keep him South while Ned goes North to recuperate. As cold hearted as it sounds Robb is technically less valuable than Ned even if still incredible valuable since lossing the Warden of the North is far worse than lossing the heir.

Sending men to bolster the Night Watches scouts is really the only thing the North can do. With a large enough group spread out their going to get some intel.

There is no sense in antagonizing the West further or jumping at the chance to declare for Stannis. This whole ordeal should have shown Ned that who sits on the Iron Throne is not important so long as his family is alive. Given no one threw a fit over the Vale and Dorne staying neutral I hardly think anyone will have much of a problem with the Riverlands and North maintaining neutrality given the situation. Both Renly and Stannis gambled in letting the North and Riverlands bloody themselves against the Lannisters, they went out of their to use another region in a dishonest way, they have no leg stand on.

Lets not over do Clegane's execution. If the Dorne had not been the wronged party I would not even bother sending his head. Its not like their going to be buddies with the Stark or rise to their defense when the Martells had plenty of time to kill Clegane if they wanted.

Just letting the Vale know his conduct in Kings Landing will hurt Baelish. There is no way Lysa can truly spin the situation in a way the Vale will want to go to war with the North and Riverlands over a minor noble that tried screwing over the Warden of the North.

As for marriages getting Rickon to be a potential heir to Harrehal would be awesome. The Freys will not fight the decisions but its even better for the Tullys to have a family member to take it over. I am not super crazy about pushing for a Edmure-Alyssane marriage other than it being mild with just enough kick to keep the Lannisters aware of potential complications if a war gets set off again with the Riverlands/North. The Bran-Manderly thing seems like it would be more of a formality given Bran is crippled. I definitely agree with not trying to give away Robb's single status just yet since it is very valuable and there is no need to strengthen Northern ties more than it is.

And Lord Manderly is supposed to be pleased with that?

We need to come up with some other incentive to get Manderlys help with the port and shipbuilding. Just not sure what else we can offer besides Robb rather than Bran.

Maybe some kind of trade incentive with White Harbor? I don't know...
