WildSpace - A Riot! Quest

[X] Maxim 26. "Fire and Forget" is fine, provided you never actually forget. (Engage the aerial target)

Man, I do hope that it's not a trader ship.

Um, who can vote on that one?

Also, can I get a clarification about the rules? Currently I am operating with the following ruleset, as per this post:

Skill
Level

XP to
advance

Skill
Bonus
  4 3
1 7 5
2 13 6
3 21 8
4 ??? 11
5 ??? 15
With a progression of +2 for obtaining a skill and further +1/+2/+3/+4 for refining it.

How much XP it takes to level up from a skill from 4 to 5?

In Havoc, there was a clear distinction between qualified and unqualified personnel. The latter only got +3, the former got +5*skill bonuses on top of that. Since bonuses in Wildspace seem to be much smaller, it erodes this boundary somewhat, and I am not sure it's a good thing. Especially for level 2 characters. It takes a while to get there and even longer to get out of there, and the only benefit they see from leveling from 1 to 2 is a measly +1 bonus. Maybe this table would be better?

advance

Skill
Bonus
  4 3
1 7 5
2 13 7
3 21 9
4 32? 12
5 45? 15
It's a bit more consistent with a progression of +2/+2/+2/+3/+3. Thoughts?

The skill curve being flatter and more effort to get through combined with no penalty for crosstraining is what influenced me to go wide/just do whatever is necessary, rather than specialize.

The bonus was intended to ramp up with each level... which it currently does. The current bonus threadmark has been updated with a new scale, though.

FYI, missed my question (not sure if just missed or we're not even allowed to ask if we're not there) but you kind of answered it anyway, I guess.

You're allowed. I just didn't get 'round to multiquoting your question, it seems. It's too dark to properly see the ship.

What kind of sensor suite do they have access to out there? What kind of confidence do they have that they'd actually hit if they shot, if they assumed vaguely standard countermeasures for a craft of that size? (Do they already have a lock or is it thermal/some other emissions seeking? Easily defeatable by chaff if that's equipped by standard or some kind of point defense?)

Well, you do miss 100% of the shots you don't take. That's what I hear, at least.

It's got a multifunction sensor. It's primarily meant for use against terrestrial vehicles (thus it has a gigantic warhead), but it is capable of engaging craft flying as high as 15,000 feet due to range alone. Active radar homing with infrared backup and gravitic sensors for confirmation. They're hard to stop.

They point it in the ship's general direction and squeeze the trigger.

Well, nice to see that I've inspired someone. Might join in, might not. Either way, this Quest is I Just Write approved.

Character Submission

Name: Jerry
Gender: Male
Species: Human

Appearance: Short and skinny, this young man only comes up to most people's chests. Still, there's a distinctly athletic bent to his form. His hair is brown and kept too short to be messed up, while his eyes are perpetually hidden by a pair of mirrored shades.

Backstory: Jerry was born in a circus to a pair of magicians, who insisted he learn the family trade. With the advancement of science and technology, doing the impossible is a much higher bar to pass than it was 500 years ago, and the demand of learning how to do all of those tricks (apparent unsupported teleportation, detaching appendages in plain sight, and pulling cards from nowhere while wearing a tank top, among others) nearly broke him. He escaped at the first opportunity, and never once looked back.

Job: Magician

A magician was onboard a frontier settler ship? Gosh, we don't even have the saloon up for the useless entertainers to earn their keep.

;3

Honestly, I just wanted to see what sort of skill levels @Shadows would abstract being a magician too. Also, I may have recently watched what one may consider way too much America's Got Talent.

Hyperventilation time. The master has graced my quest with his presence!

Damn the need to study tonight... I'd write up the update otherwise.

Magician... uh. Um. Well... Espionage? Slight of hand counts as deceit and trickery.
