What's a little accidental torture between friends, am I right? He'll

Also: who's demagogue? One of the nazi's?

A little extra trauma on an already traumatized teenager won't hurt him too much. Being burned on the stake is a much tolerable experience for him than it would be for a normal person, too.

Actually I looked it up on the wiki, and from what I can tell from his Brute/Changer power Aegis' trigger likely involved physical trauma related to his identity. Getting burned to death after a kangaroo court accusing him of witchcraft could easily fit the bill for a second trigger. Not sure what I'd upgrade his power to do, but the possibility exists.

I'm primarily wondering if the six people are in trial together as a group or if Aegis and the Nazis are alone in their individual hallucinations.
Individual, the hallucination fills in the blanks of the prosecution's case using the memories of the accused.

Maybe I've missed something, but I'm not sure what you mean by Demagogue/Henders.
The nazi she focused on, He's a Master/Shaker who makes beliefs more fervent so long as he shares them. And now whenever he walks into a house everyone in that house will know he's a nazi supervillain who did unspeakable things to get powers from Mengele.

And does this mean Taylor can create memory cotton (Like the memory corn) or is she restricted to making cotton that suffers?
Yeah basically all her corn schematics also apply to cotton plants too.

I would heavily advise against giving Aegis a second Trigger. Second Triggers are not just fancy powerups; they are indicative of a person broken beyond the point of no return. If you have Aegis trigger from this experience, he will be nothing more than a broken remnant of who he used to be.

I'm fairly sure I don't have to tell you how that would impact the tone of the story and Taylor's interactions with people going forward if you do decide to have him break like that.

It's worm, so it'd need to be unnecessarily horrible. Apply his power to his personality so it plays madlibs with mental traits every time he's in distress! Except also being worm it'd probably just go for 'homicidal'.

Of course, that's assuming she doesn't get murdered by him popping out again anyway. She'll have to keep her eyes closed for a day with that crushpower. Easy target.

I can probably manage to make it funny again, we've been ramming face-first into dark subjects this whole time. Need I remind you of the space-genocide? Or Australia? Horror and comedy are two sides of the same coin. Besides, it's only a matter of time before she crits an ally anyway.

Nah, I'm more concerned with how it would affect the other plotlines than the tone.

Narwhal is an example of a second trigger who seems to be doing fine.

Well the roll that did it was a 9, so he likely wont be there long enough to get to the burning, prob just enough for the trial, since witch trials were pure spectacle... actually given his power he would be able to pass all the "tests" that they gave witches, like not drowning or floating back up from being thrown off a cliff. So that should delay things enough he pops back before the bonfires start

Finding this in the depths of SV...

"So anyway, i just started readin'. "

Pretty cool story and i really like the chaos and dedication is must have taken to survive it.

Suggestions for possible 2nd Trigger Upgrades and Downgrades:

Upgrade: Due to power based nature of Trauma give him the Trump power to adapt more esoteric mutations like chlorophyll skin that can empower himself with solar energy, or organic wrist mounted flamethrowers, or magnetic bone spikes.

Downgrade: Due to his Trigger being caused by unexpected friendly fire make his mutations either take longer to activate being unable to react to threats in time or require him to manually activate adaptions based on perceived treats he believes he might face losing the automatic and reactionary aspect of his power.

Upgrade: Due to isolation from teammates during his 2nd Trigger you could give him a Master power, the ability to have damaged body parts fall off and mutate into animals with the adaptions he would have normally received.

Downgrade: His own body while still able to regrow missing parts no longer receives the adaptions and Brutes powers himself.

Edit: Upgrade: Due to the drawn out nature of the Trigger event and growing uncertainty of whether or not the effect will be temporary he could 2nd Trigger with a Thinker Power, the ability to adapt mentally to problems and generate temporary Thinker powers. Example, trying to find or follow a person results in a minor hunting and tracking thinker power. Getting in a fight without a weapon grants a minor combat Thinker power in fisticuffs. Multiple Thinker powers stack and combine, example, gaining a hunter tracker power and then a fisticuffs powers combines into a fisticuffs power that grows more effective thew longer he has tracked a person for. Gaining a fisticuffs power and then a hunter tracker power grants the power to better track people hes fought recently.

Downgrade: Loses physical adaptions. Powers combine automatically, example, gaining a hunter tracker power and then a fisticuffs power render the fisticuffs power useless against people he hasn't tracked, gaining a fisticuffs power and then a hunting tracking power prevents the tracking power from working on people he hasn't fought.

Second triggers get to ping off any nearby shard connections.

There's a Brahman chemistry shard with a nearby loose connection from losing its host. It was granting the ability to cause combustion reactions and accelerate them to produce detonations.

Brahman shards have repeatedly demonstrated both the ability and the inclination to modify existing parahumans' powers; see e.g. Assault and Hookwolf.

Aegis is at risk of second-triggering thanks to new trauma that mirrored his trigger trauma but with the addition of being burnt alive.

I see potential here.

(E): Also, five nazi wannabes with the same treatment but no latent trigger trauma.

... Second triggers don't do downgrades, no?

2nd Triggers, not to be confused with 1.5 Triggers like cannon Taylor had, are sidegrades, an upgrade to one aspect of the power at the cost of another. A good example is Grue's 2nd Trigger.
He gained the ability to copy powers from Parahumans in his darkness, but his darkness became slower to generate and was unable to rise more then a foot or two above the ground making it useless for it's original purpose of hiding in it.

Chapter 177
"-You idiot! I can't believe you did that without looking where you were aiming! Everyone keeps telling you to be more careful! Fucking listen! Powers aren't toys!-" While Kid Win and Gallant peppered the advancing nazis back to their side of the rock wall, Vista was verbally laying into me. I tried pointing out that permanent effects are impossible and that he'd definitely be back but she referenced Gray Boy in response and I- I didn't have a come back. God, I might have actually popped Aegis away forever huh? I can only hope not but, I guess I'll be the one to tell his parents if I did. It's only right.

From how the seven remaining nazis were attacking only three of them had powers, or powers they could use at a distance anyway. There was a woman who dyed her hair blue and wreathed with this pure white fire stuff, it sort of acted like an airborne liquid when she wasn't throwing it around. And there was a blond guy who could project hands made of some kind of shiny stone, they disappeared when they got too far away from him though, so he was mostly using them as little shields. And finally there was a bald guy who could turn his arms into acidic gas as a Blaster attack, but he needed a lot of time to reform them after each attack. The rest just had guns and weren't particularly good at shooting, at least not at this range.

Once Vista was satisfied in her lambasting of me, or at least done for now. I requested to make a return to the wall to attack the now retreating nazis again. She didn't say anything out loud, but space shrunk in front of me and when I stepped through it I was much further away than I had been before. Apparently there were multiple openings in the wall. Considering the situation, my feelings were only hurt a little bit. Besides, if I didn't know this opening existed, they probably didn't either. POP

McClintock Prize - Wikipedia Tinker power upgraded, Plant Neurology specialty now works on plant species similar to corn and cotton, rather than just those two specific species. Intensified to be permanent.

Another dud. At least they're too far away to hear the pop. POP
Ancestry of Felipe VI of Spain - Wikipedia Host species in Host's current line of sight modified to produce clones of random Spanish royalty members in place of their genetic children when attempting to reproduce. Effect does not reach further than 70 feet and does not penetrate solid objects.

Ugh, why is there always so many of these? It almost makes me miss the water pops. I look back at how the others are doing while my 'timer' ticks down, actually I should definitely see about asking for a stopwatch or something when this is over, just to be sure I don't waste any time I don't need to. The fire nazi seems to have gotten a bit braver than her friends, because she's on our side of the wall, getting pummeled by Browbeat's spatially warping fists. Yeah, they don't really need my help in defending. POP I turn back and aim at the big guy, he's barking orders at another two and gesturing at the nazis hideout. POP

SEC Nation - Wikipedia + Shardul-class tank landing ship - Wikipedia Another anomalous TV program graces Brockton Bay, this one is a war documentary special from a universe similar to the one that spawned the basketball warship. 24 hours of sports-based warfare throughout the ages. Intensified to be a monthly event.

I'm not even disappointed anymore, I fully expected nothing to happen. POP

49th New York Volunteer Infantry - Wikipedia I have no idea how many are in a regiment and wikipedia didn't say, so this is just the 320 members who died before the American Civil War was over. That's overkill anyway. Modified by the 7 to come back to life when killed in battle.

Finally! I'm now surrounded by dozens of men dressed and equipped a lot like Amalgam. "Alright gentlemen, on the other side of this wall-" Are several nazis too impatient and spooked to properly let me point them out as the enemy, they open fire and two of my new soldiers fall down dead, the closest one with the fancy shoulder patch has blood spurting out of his neck as he falls. I- I'm covered in it. I-

"Oi, that hurt you rebel bastards!" He gets back up, neck wound already sewing itself back together. Okay. I'm still covered in his blood, but at least he's alive. "Let's see how you boys like a hail of steel! Men! Ready." The soldiers' guns are instantly out as the ones closest to the gap scramble to find a place to crouch or stand. The 'gate' is probably bristling with guns right now "Aim." Wait, I didn't get a chance to tell them to take them alive if possible. I try to do it, I really do. But I'm drowned out by the apparent commander yelling, "Fire!" right before the gunshots make me deaf.

Huh, Vista comes across as really unlikeable here. She DOES know that Taylor has absolutely no control over the result of her pulls, right? That is like laying into someone for not rolling well in a game.

Also, that last pull is quite clutch one. I imagine the nazis won't like what follows here.

Chapter 178
The soldiers get another two shots off before I manage to command them all to stop, but the damage is already done. Four of the nazis are dead with the remaining three hiding behind what's left of their fake janitor van, bleeding out. Aegis had one of our only first aid kits but the other is in the tank, so I drive that over to help keep our prisoners alive long enough so the PRT can arrest them.

The other Wards are understandably stand-offish with Aegis still wherever I sent him, so I spend the next ten minutes or so interviewing my summons, partially to fill out the dozen sets of paperwork I brought and partially because I have a report on the Civil War due next week. Halfway through I realized that to use any of their accounts I'd have to out myself as a cape, still it was interesting how many volunteers the Union had in just this regiment. And I managed to confirm that a couple were keeping journals that might have been preserved somewhere for an actual source, if I could find where they were kept.

Finally the PRT arrived, fashionably late, and Gallant proceeded to give Captain Hives the gist of what had happened. After a brief call to Acting Director Renick, they went about digging out the entrance of the Empire base from the rubble of my opening attack. Nobody asked me to, but I decided to help carry some of the smaller chunks away. It did a lot to help the feeling of being a liability despite creating a defensive parameter and summoning a literal army of reinforcements.

We're not the only ones digging either. There's a bunch of scratching sounds coming from the other side of the rubble. I guess Arrmsmaster doesn't have a mining pick attachment in his toolkit yet, but I bet he would next week. Actually wait, isn't Battery a Brute? And Assault's a kinetic Striker right? Why would they need to scratch at the- A massive meaty claw bursts through a cracked chunk of concrete and spears the PRT trooper clear through the torso, pulling her back into the interior with a horrible squelch before the whole monster rams its way through. It's vaguely humanoid, but with translucent slime for skin and covered in razorblades. I can see the trooper's remains in it's guts already. Fuck that. Fuck everything about that! I backflip away and pull. POP

Trembling Earth - Wikipedia + World on the Ground - Wikipedia A chief of the Dakota, this version of him has a Blaster power to temporarily turn living things into flocks of finches of equivalent mass so long as they're standing on the ground. The projectile is fairly slow.

The monster flashes greenish white before there's birds everywhere, a native American man holding up his palms at the scattering flock with a expression somewhere between panic and determination written across his face. I suspect I have the same look on mine. I'm about to ask if he knows what just happened when a growling sound rumbles out of the now bloody hole, four sets of glowing eyes stare back at me. Nope. "Help if you can, but focus on staying safe." I quietly tell him before edging away. Another thing languidly climbs out, this one is some kind of scaly giant squid. Where's Surtr when I need him? Oh, he's with Niddhoggr doing- I did not need to see that.

How similar is similar for cotton/corn? Order? Clade? Kingdom?

If Surtr and Niddhoggr keep it quiet, I suppose Taylor will soon be able to dump her memories of seeing their bizarre molten sex romp into some corn and offer it to Blasto on the sly. If she manages it without getting caught, she's now got the perfect way/video file to cause leadership turmoil in the gang.
