Chapter 207: (Crash)
When I heard the sound of a battle I kind of expected that I'd be arriving in the nick of time to save my sister from the heroes. Instead I almost bumped into Spitfire as she sprinted past me away from the street, I guess she somehow didn't see me on my pig-thing. When I got to the street itself I saw why she was running. I know Original thought she summoned Mothra once before, but it could have just been some prehistoric bug or something. There was no mistaking that iconic face. Even if it was taking notes while my sister regaled it with some of Original's heroing. I miss heroing, we should see about starting a team or something once the Protectorate comes to their senses and stops harassing Mother.

My sister is just getting to the part where Kakashi-Sensei hands the Undersiders their collective ass when my summon step-slithers into the light, making her eyes go wide at the sight of me. "What the actual fuck is that thing?"

"I have no idea. Isn't it great?"

"Here I thought my new powers were weird."

I pointedly glanced at the Alien, still writing. How did it even see what it was writing? Aliens don't have eyes, that was a major plot point that they would blunder right by Ripley if she just stayed quiet. My sister snaps her fingers in my face a few times. "Gah! Stop that."

"I know we're both not used to socializing, but we both know you're not going to get better unless you make an effort."

You're not my real Mother, me. "Right, sorry. So?"

"So?"

"You gonna introduce me to your summons?" Or maybe just explain how he can see?

"Ah right. This guy is Haji, he's like a war-time reporter on his Earth." Huh. "Over there literally glowing lady over there is Kouznolyn, she's sort of a healer, a priestess, and commander rolled into one. She's also got light powers from her goddess, apparently."

"Like Teacher?"

"Possibly, it felt kind of rude to ask. Since it's literally her religion. Plus I don't know if she'd even be aware of it if that were the case."

Right, Mastered people almost never realize that they've been Mastered, that's what makes it so scary. I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be knowing I share loyalties with another potentially villainous Master, like what if the other lady tells Kouznolyn to kill- Umm. "What should I call you?"

"... Good question. Did you pick a name yet?" While we're discussing that, the armored figures who I was running away from and then forgot about exit the alley, lead by another of our sisters. Cool. Looks like we'll be getting to test out my ideas for a family cape team afterall. Of course, she has her own opinions on names, and is a little put out that no, we're not calling her 'Your Highness' like her summons do. The amusing, if very confusing conversation cuts out as the priestess were were previously talking about perks up before running to the sidewalk and brutally stabbing one of the completely ordinary Easter eggs resting against the building.

"Eggies nooooooo!" It seemed negotiations had broken down.

I got ninja'd by another update, but I'd like to say that I loved the way you used campaign to refer to the life of a clone who uses the dnd wiki!

Chapter 208: (Caw)
In many ways, my power was better and worse than Original's. On one hand, the noise it made was practically ordinary, nobody would bat an eye from hearing a bunch of crows on an abandoned rooftop. CAW

Carrot seed + Prehistoric Tibia - Stardew Valley Wiki A random number (9) of carrot seeds that have been Biotinkered to produce roots composed of sloth bone. The crop is a critical ingredient in Necromantic Carrot Cake.

On the other hand I'd been at this for fucking days and I still only had a bunch of seeds and furniture to show for it. Nothing weaponizable without a lot of work. A lot of work that was starting to seem like a great idea, given how much junk my power insisted on giving me. CAW

Night Sky Decal 3 - Stardew Valley Wiki Tinkertech plastic sheet, when placed over a surface creates a photorealistic display of the actual night sky from that direction. Intensified to be permanent.

Holy shit, did I drill through the fucking planet with this thing. I gingerly touch the area where the roof tiles used to be- still are, it's just a plastic display. Trippy to look at through. Maybe I can sell it at the pawn shop later tonight, I found a nice one next to a dingy dive bar. The guy who owns it doesn't ask questions about who I am or where I'm getting this stuff, and he almost definitely thinks I'm stealing it, but whatever, I'm not a hero anymore. I'm just trying to survive long enough to po- caw a weapon with which to help Mother. CAW

Conical flasks A random number (5) of conical flasks used in chemistry, potions, and alchemy.

Ugh. More junk I don't need. CAW

Sardine A pound of live sardines.

Fuck fuck fuck. I can get away with a lot of pulls for how ordinary most of this stuff is, but then my power does this shit and I have to scramble to keep the street below from a literal rain of wiggling fish. Like, why? CAW Phew. CAW

The Swamp Puddles in the Eastern edge of the South Docks take 8 times longer to evaporate than normal.

Apple - Stardew Valley Wiki A random number (18) of Gala apples

Why thank you power, I am pretty hungry after fixing that mess you made for me. Of course, it wasn't meant to be, and it CAWed away before I could even finish one. Strangely though the bits I swallowed stayed. Why did I never noticed that happening before? Whatever. CAW

Sebastian - Stardew Valley Wiki Sebastian has Tinker power for coffee and beer with healing effects.

"What? Where am I? Who are you?" I'm a bit speechless because this is the first time since I was born that I actually summoned a person. It's also the first time I've spoken with someone who wasn't probably a fence.

"Umm, I guess you can call me Raven."

"I'm Sebastian. So, about those other questions?"

"An apartment building roof in Brockton Bay, New Hampshire. I was summoning stuff at random and then you popped up." And so the familiar conversation went. Except he refused to believe that I could summon things out of thin air and asked for a demonstration. CAW

Oil of Garlic - Stardew Valley Wiki + Prayer for donations + Stone grave fence II A bottle of garlic oil. Generates a random number of charges and grants Stoneskin for 1 hour after application. Tastes strongly of garlic. Intensified by the 1 to replenish itself over time.

Hmm. I don't think the pawn shop takes foodstuffs. Well I guess I can use it in cooking?

How much time has actually passed between when Haphazard got eaten and the "I'd been at this for fucking days"?
I time-skipped to day 5. I'm gonna go over each of the clones, rolling 20 times on each to apply any permanents they could get offscreen. We're not done seeing new clones per se, but I kinda want to get to the main event soon.

I mean, at least her pull pool is harmless enough that there should be little need for PRT to harass her once she has been proven safe and un-mastered. And while it doesn't seem like she is all that great in a fight, she could probably be great at restarting civilization if Golden Morning happens again...or if she just decides to skip town and live somewhere by herself.

Edit: Also, I just realized that while her pull pool SUCKS for a fight, Caw would be AMAZING asset against Earth Risk, since she could make all necromancy raw materials useless for their necro-artificers with her minor power.

Striker power, can spend a charge to mark surfaces with this rune for 1 hour, clothing and armor within 4 feet of mark increase in weight by 1% every minute.

So, I got to wondering about this one. Is it linear, or cumulative? (Considering this is called a 'Burden,' I figure it's probably the latter.) So, anyway, I created a quickie spreadsheet to find out what it would do either way.

As a practical example, let's use three pounds (actually lighter than most clothes actually are) as the original version for clothing. Since the run lasts for an hour, increasing by 1% per minute, three pounds becomes 4.8 pounds if it's a linear 1% increase and roughly 5.45 pounds if it's cumulative. As expected, increasing the weight of clothing probably isn't too bad.

Now let's take armor. Here I'll use 45 pounds. It's a nice even number, fifteen times the previous. As far as I know, we never actually get a weight of Armsmaster's armor, but, with all the miniaturization, I imagine it COULD weigh less. A normal set of full plate weighs between 33 and 55 pounds. And here we go!

45 pounds increased by 1% (0.45 pounds) 60 times is 72 pounds (a 60% increase in weight, unsurprisingly). If the increase is cumulative, it's 81.75 pounds (a 81.67% increase).

Randomest Clone: Part 2- Hospital

The Randomest Clone Part 2- Hospital
-----

Observation the first, I'm in a hospital again.

Observation the second, this hospital gown is actually an improvement on what I was wearing before. I could do without being handcuffed to the bed, though.

Observation the third, I'm wired up to a heart monitor and have an IV dripping unknown drugs into me. I pull the IV out.

Observation the fourth, if the hills outside are any indication, this isn't Brockton Bay.

I grope around the bedside cart and come up with a water bottle. Not the escape tool I was looking for. But maybe if I... no, that won't work. Time to roll the dice, then. KZZRT!

A small black cube. Whenever someone interacts with it, a strong electric shock goes through them.

I scoop up the cube from the cart and... Ow. The heart monitor flickers and dies. I must've blown a fuse. That probably got someone's attention; I need to get out of here, fast. I pop the monitor's case open one-handed and start pulling out parts...

Two minutes later, I give the water bottle a shake, activating the highly specialized electrochemical grenade, and drop it on my wrist. The bottle bursts on contact, spilling a fluid that makes my wrist itch, but eats away the handcuffs in seconds. I pull my hand free, scratching it in the process (KZZRT) and duck out the door and into the next room over.

The ability to infuse plants with life. Grasses with enough infusions tend to develop magical properties.

Fortunately, the room's vacant, just an empty bed and a service cart that I can hide behind. Although I can hear arguing next door, I can't make out the words. I can, however, make out the crackle of my cube shocking someone.

I take that as my opening, following the service cart's path backwards until I reach the hospital's laundry. Amid the piles of clean sheets are a few other patients' clothes, neatly folded. I pilfer the pieces of an outfit - a pair of black cotton shorts that fits nicely, a white tank top that's just a little loose - and start pulling.

Whoever holds the cube begins to question all foundations of logic and reasoning.
Tinker power, the power to animate dead bodies as simple automatons. No bodies within 27 feet of the cube are affected.

Nothing obvious but a strong urge to visit the morgue. I let my hands go on autopilot, unravelling a sheet and reweaving it into balls of lace as I continue to pull my power every minute or so.

Host is able to grow back lost limbs; this takes up to six minutes depending on how much of the limb was removed.

Thinker power, Host can talk, read, and write fluent Indonesian.

I'm just about done with the third ball of lace, when someone behind me shouts, "Freeze!" I raise my hands, but I don't need to move to KZZRT!

A female Nick Fury, hair shaved and sporting a tattoo of a pentagram on her cheek.

"Get away from the fugitive, ma'am," says another voice, "she's a dangerous Master."

I peek at the doorway. Two police officers have their guns drawn and pointed at me, while a pair of apparently unarmed PRT troopers back them up. Across from them is my summon, a hairless black woman with an eyepatch and a no-nonsense demeanor.

"Kid," she says, advancing towards the troopers as the one on the left flinches, "She's got bigger problems to deal with than you. And you've got bigger problems than her."

"She can take control of you with a word," the other trooper barks, "and she's an auxiliary to an S-class threat. Stand down or we blow her away."

"Ah, ah," my summon waves a finger. "You do have a bigger problem." There's a blur of action, and then she's pointing the policemen' guns at them while a loose containment foam grenade engulfs the troopers. "Me." Then, she vanishes with a KZZRT.

The policemen dive for their guns, but I scoop up my tinkertech lace balls and my throw beats them to the plate. The ball springs open on impact, wraps around all four of their wrists, and binds them together in an impossible tangle. I jump over them and make for the ambulance entrance where all the gurneys come from. A nurse pulls out her phone as I pass by, but nobody actually stops me until I hit the parking lot.

With four different PRT vans and three police cars in it.

In the middle of a strange town.

I bite back a swear and do my best to stroll away inconspicuously.

AN: It turns out that both 'nonlethal throwing weapons' tinkering and the tracking form of 'vehicle post-cognition' are quite a bit more versatile than I first gave them credit for.

I think you still don't understand, somehow. I was looking forward to writing this part, I'm not just going to skip over it because one guy doesn't like it. Just fucking have some patience or something, I'm following a loose script that I planned out a month ago.

Now that I'm in on the writing, I can definitely feel the appeal of quarter-sized chapters. It's the difference between sitting down, writing a chapter and posting it, and piecing it together over several days with plenty of opportunity to second-guess the earlier bits.

5 days pass....the chaos, well I hope Noelle dies before the end of the arc, everything is her fault, the self proclaimed strategist.
