Welcome to Brightton.

Brightton. A small town, peaceful, nestled between the deep woods to the south and east, the coast to the west, and mountains to the north. Peaceful, until recently, that is. Then the deaths started occurring. A town of a hundred or so, perhaps as many as two hundred, and frequent enough visitors, originally, at this point reduced to less than two dozen. The deaths began slowly, but as the winter storms snowed in the only pass through the mountains, and the remaining visitors fled through the woods, the deaths escalated, until they were nightly.

And right after the mountain pass was snowed in, the profane, clearly magical altar, covered in skulls, and inscribed with the names of the dead, was found, in the town square. Each new death, a new name appeared upon it in the night. The foulest sort of magic that was spoken of in the darkest of nights.

Not that any upstanding citizen would speak of magic openly, oh my no, but this, such a ritual of death and slaughter is almost beyond belief.

And today, it's been decided that enough is enough. Those remaining assemble, in the town square, a wary distance from the dark altar, and beside the town gallows. The killer, or killers, must be among those that remain, and the town whips itself into a frenzy, determined to settle this, by hanging the most suspect until the killing stops.

Day One Begins
Day One Begins

All left in Brighton gather in the town square, a wary distance from the dark altar. Each stands a wary distance, too, from his fellows, suspicious of them, or perhaps just wanting to look suspicious of them.

The people will discuss, argue, accuse, and, in the end, lynch the one they think is most suspicious.

Day 1 ends in 72 hours, March 31st, at 10:41 GMT, or when hammer is achieved.

Hammer is currently eight votes.

Day one ends.

The discussion starts slow and wary, until one man's argumentative thrust draws attention. Near half those present think he should face the noose, yet an equal number thinks he's right and the one he accused deserves death.

Yet in the end, neither of them does. Though the conversation dominates the day, it deescalates over the course of the day. And another is picked for the noose.

A bookish fellow, @TheMaskedReader is familiar as a writer who has long lived in the village. But faced with the noose, the man reveals he is not as ordinary as thought. "No, you can't! My books! My books! I won't let you!"

With a word of power he teleports, once, twice, before being tackled by a villager. He is dragged to the gallows, and gagged, and put in the noose.

He struggles, and hangs limp. @TheMaskedReader, the Space-Time Wizard, has been [Lynched].

He was a Traditionalist Wizard.

Night has fallen. No further talking is allowed.

Day 2 begins
Day 2 begins

The village sleeps, though restless, fearing for who will be found dead next, fearing for their own lives...

Dawn breaks, and all fourteen who left to sleep last night return to the square. Everyone present looks around in surprise, as it appears none died this night. But the altar remains, and none believe the one they lynched yesterday was the killer, especially given the conspicuous pool of fresh blood on the altar...

With fourteen players alive, hammer remains at eight votes. Day ends in 72 hours, April 5th, 1:06 AM, GMT, or when hammer is reached, whichever comes first.

Day 2 end

The day starts out slow, perhaps in part reeling from the lack of deaths. But one man's outlandish claim gets him a lot of attention, and though others are considered with suspicion, in the end the villagers begin to turn to corner him. An outsider, the man has an oversized beard and hat, and sighs dramatically at the attention. "Not by peasants." He says, snapping his fingers and speaking a Word. He lights on fire, and shakes his head sadly. "So much knowledge, lost to little more than animals and madmen." He calmly says as he burns to death, the villagers too spooked to approach. He collapses, eventually, still burning

@Winged Cat, the Fire Wizard has been [Lynched]. Sorta.

He was a Traditionalist Wizard. The Traditionalist Wizards have lost.

Shaken by the sight of a man burning himself to death, the villagers depart to their homes, settling in for the night, hoping the killings have stopped... But not believing they have.

Day three begins.
Day three begins.

The village sleeps peacefully through the night, only to awaken to a gruesome sight when they assemble. A corpse, ravaged by the ravens, set upon the foul altar. A head count is not needed, as the new victim's name has, of course, been inscribed by dark power into the altar itself.

@shadow shinobi, the Village Hunter, has been [sacrificed in the night].

He was a member of the Village People.

The town discusses their fears and suspicions, shaken by the gruesome corpse.

Day three begins. Day three ends in 72 hours, April 8th, GMT 11:51, or when hammer is achieved, whichever comes first. Hammer rests at seven players.

The townsfolk quickly zero in on one man in particular, as one man claims a dead man saw him doing something suspicious. The man protests his innocence, he is but a herbalist in the woods, but none will be swayed by this stranger, and eventually he shrugs, raises his hands, and speaks dark, foul words of magic. He's tackled to the ground before he can do anything, but cackles madly on the way to the noose, saying "Fools! The Order will have our prize, and your resistance only prolongs your suffering!"

He is strung up and lies limp soon enough.

@AlphaDelta, the Black Order Warlock, has been [Lynched].

He was a member of the Black Order.

The town disperses for the night, cheered by the thought they have caught one of those behind this, but concerned by his words. After all, he asserts he is not alone.
