Sonic weapons worked fine on land in the games and while I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't as effective on land in this quest I'm sure they'll at least be as good as the stuff X-Com's got.
 
[x] Your forces are going to need some extra fire power if they're going to be able to do anything if they want to work on land, better see if you can get a combat drone designed to fill the need.

    The first order of business is to figure out how the Ethereal forces have changed over the years. Those lunatics have been conquering planets for a long time now, and any number of changes could have happened in that time.

    "Zana" you telepathically contact your second in command. "Prepare some interceptors it's time to bring the fight to the Ethereals!"

    The reports you get back from the first operation are………….confusing to say the least.

    Apparently the Ethereal unit of choice was the Sectoids of all things. While they were armed with powerful plasma weapons Sectoids are still fairly weak combatants and without any psychics among their ranks they wound up falling before you had much difficulty. Why wouldn't they have psychics though? It's pretty much the only thing sectoids are good for, even Aquatoids can overpower them on land, and you know for a fact that Aquatoids are not good land fighters.

    It doesn't make any sense!

    Something fishy is going on here and it isn't you for once.

    Hello organic tank. Seriously these things are nasty enough IRL. Some genetic mods, implanted armor+weapons and we got a shock trooper that is as good on land as it is in water.
    Their ability to potentially go toe-to-toe with Berserkers ala MECs and use Sectoids as hacky-sacks is a bonus.
