Rumor Mill

Vanished: Late this year the largest army of Magnataurs seen in hundreds of years has fallen in over a single night. Lead by Gomok the Impaler, numbering nearly twenty-thousand, it was a powerful force in Northrend, all but dominating the region of Dragonblight this past year. Now there is no sign of them, but bone and signs of battle raged all across their encampment. Days after this supposed battle, many of visiting natives think the place is haunted by angry spirits and note that the Magnataurs have fled from Dragonblight all together.

Total. Success.
Arcman, will this improve our diplomacy chances?

Chu Want Axe?: A week after the disappearance of the Magnataur army, the warring Vrykul and Drakkari armies finally clashed on borders of Grizzly Hills, with the latter leading an invasion of the region. The Vrykul met them in force as the Ice Trolls besieged the wooden Vrykul forts lining the borders, easily smashing through the fortifications with Dire Trolls and Drakkari Golems before being countered by Vrykul Proto-Dragon Riders. The battle lasted for days, almost waged entirely by physical might. Both forces were hesitant to lose any more of their casters until the final confrontation, where the Drakkari routed the Vrykul in full. Their Frost King, Malakk slew King Ymiron in a duel, carving open his chest with a frost imbued axe and ripping out his heart for all to see. Tens of thousands of prisoners were taken, all marched to Zul'Drak for a grand sacrifice to the Loa as the Drakkari march further into Vrykul territory.
...Well then!
Time to see if we can't encourage rebellion.
Some failure should piss off their loa.

And even if not, it should further weaken their center of power, which would be good for us.

Ymiron's death presents a bit of problem, but there is a bit of compromise.

If Malakk could kill Ymiron, this obviously means he's stronger than him. Thus Anu-surket has a new, better target.

She should do it with the guys own weapon, the one we stole. That would be some cruel irony plus the sight of her with the thing would cause him to fly into a frenzy, which would be to her advantage.

Frenzy is the last thing you want on a raid boss.
We needz a Hunter!!!

Tranq that bitch.

Yeah, for realz though we definitely HAVE to hit them before they can actually push though with all the sacrificing they are planning. We have 2 years till the lich king, and having the trolls turn their eyes to us at the same time could be crippling. Even simply freeing the Vykul prisoners and making a raid on the Frost Troll King would be a huge boon.

We dont need to kill them all this time, cant really, but we can distinctly keep them at war and from getting stronger. Offer aid to the Vykul in the process, and all of a sudden we can turn this around even further.

At this stage making sure that when the lich king comes after us there isn't any OTHER pressing business to which we must attend is vital

The earthquake was probably Gul'dan raising the Shattered Isles, or maybe something to do with Pandaria. I'm not entirely sure of the WC2 campaign timeline.

Tremors: Around the time of the Magnataur army was exterminated a strong earthquake shook the whole of Northrend. Though it didn't originate around the arctic continent from theories and reports by numerous geologists and mages in the Nerubian Empire. They determined it occurred somewhere far in the south, within the great sea. A great shift in the tectonic plates, likely caused by magic or so they guess.
Could this be Deathwing entering Deepholme ?

Very likely, I think. If this was true, it would fit with the events of Beyond the Dark Portal taking place a year or two from now, which would mean that Ner'Zhul would arrive in about two years, starting the Scourge.

I kinda feel sorry for Ner'Zhul.

He basically got tricked into the whole deal... then shoved into a little box and reshaped into a superweapon. Even exterminating the Drenai wasn't actually his idea so much as lies and bullshit fed to him by Kiljaden as a 'get them before they get you' scenario... presented by him as under the guise of spirits of people Ner'Zhul treasured and loved and had no reason to distrust.

And when he figured it out... blam... Stabbed in the back by Gul'dan.

Is it just me? Or is Gul'Dan simply the single biggest asshole in Warcraft?

There is a benefit in grabbing the kobolds from the magnataurs realy - well several.
  • Weakening the remains: While not a lot it could potentialy weaken the magnataurs that remain.
  • Disposable/resistant Miners: Kobolds are likely far less prone to corruption when mining saronite then nerubians are.
  • Geomancers: Kobolds are natural geomancers, this could give you a shoe in on golems. If no geomancers remain among the magnataur ones it could still be used to attract geomancer kobolds from other groups - i doubt all kobolds in northrend served the magnataurs.
  • Presedence of asimiliation: Absorbing the kobolds could be used as a presedence for absorbing new factions and races into the nerubian empire even if only as vassal states/servants(to prevent loss of internal cohesion). It could potentialy open up the other nerubians for allowing absorbption of other factions such as the Vrykul, taunka and so on.
  • Potentialy ambasadors: If kobolds could be trained well enough(may require messing with them alchemicaly to make them smarter) they could potentialy act as go betweens that other factions find less scary then a ten feet tall spider monster man.

This is Gul'dan's story and he is a very big asshole

Hmm. Can we Alphastrike Zul'drak next turn? With their army still marching on the Vrykul lands their capital should be fairly vulnerable, and destroying their temples and taking their sacrifices could well lead to the Loa abandoning the frost troll entirely for their failure. Would make fighting the rest of them much easier.

Aww fuck, Zul'drak got lots of sacrifices?

Just for the record? Zul'drak Won. They tanked the entire scourge, and they Won, admittedly, they had to kill and eat their gods to do it, but for all that Frost Trolls are omnicidal maniacs, they don't fuck around--even by the end of Wrath of the Lich King, the Scourge had only penetrated the first terrace of Zul'drak, and even only got That far thanks to having a guy on the inside.

He's the reason why most races in Warcraft can't have nice things.

Yeah, if it wasn't the legion's fault you trace somewhere between 80-90% of the bigger problems Azeroth has to deal with back to him.

And we may or not have given them the power necessary to push even that back.

This isn't going to end well.

Well, sorta. They managed to hold out against a small part of the Scourge, never its full attention, and even then it took them their gods, their sanity and their empire.

Unlike the Nerubians, who clashed with the entire early Scourge head on, the Drakkari never seemed to be a priority target of the Licheking, more something that would eventually fall and join the Scourge anyways.
