You decide that you would be best served spending your time at home. That way fate can't try and screw with you by having something else happen to Uncle Ben while you're out stopping the would-be burglar.
As the day turns to evening it becomes more and more apparent that you're on edge. Enough so that your Aunt and Uncle are asking what is wrong at the dinner table when you all sit down to eat. You simply manage to mumble something to try and convince them it's nothing major. You aren't sure if that worked.
It gets so late without anything happening that you begin to wonder if anything will happen. But then it happens. There's a knock on the door and before you can even offer to answer it your Uncle is up and moving. As soon as the door is opened even slightly the person on the other side forces it further open, sending your uncle sprawling back and onto the floor.
You get up and start to move to help him up, but stop when a gun is pointed in your direction. "Don't come any closer!" The man's voice is unsteady, nervous. And the hand holding the gun shakes as it swings around again, this time to point at your Uncle, who had started to stand. "And you stay down!"
You... You aren't going to let that gun continue being pointed at him. A subtle step to the side, so that when the gun is pointed at you again it's not also pointed in the same direction as Aunt May, then a more obvious step forward has the gun swinging back toward you. "I said stay back! I will shoot!"
From his position on the floor Uncle Ben says, in a worried tone, "Peter-" only to be cut off when the robber starts talking again.
"Peter, huh? Well, Peter, why don't you show me where the valuables are."
"We ain't got much," Your Uncle cuts in, prompting that gun to swing back towards him. Stop talking Uncle Ben!
"I wasn't talking to you, old man!" The gun is jabbed toward Uncle Ben, and you can see the twitch of the finger on the trigger.
You take another step forward, and the gun swings back toward you. An action accompanied by a familiar... Tingling in your head. The sound of the gun as it goes off is deafening, far more so than you expected. Sure, it's confined quarters and all, but sti-Oh. Right. Younger body, with eardrums that haven't adapted to loud noises and the like.
While preoccupied with that thought, an instinct born of years of heeding that tingling springs up, and you bend to one side, letting the bullet fly past to impact into the wall. Then you spring forward, one hand latching onto the slide of the gun before you give it a sharp yank. Strength and the adhesiveness of your hands combine to let you tear the slide off, though you hear the sickening pop of the robber's finger dislocating as you do.
You don't stop, continuing to move, hand grabbing the robber's wrist as you slip under his still extended arm, bringing it around behind him. Your foot lashes out to kick his legs and force him to his knees, but finds nothing but air. The robber is already on his way down due to Uncle Ben, still on the ground, having moved to to sweep his legs out from under him.
Robber disarmed and captured, and Uncle Ben still alive, climbing to his feet. But you notice that neither he nor Aunt May are moving to call the police. Instead they're staring at you.
"W-When did you get so fast, Peter?" Aunt May asks, voice shaky.
"Fast nothing. You dodged a bullet. And strong. Takes a lot to rip a slide off like that."
Oh. Right. Stupid instincts! You should have just let yourself get shot. And... Wow... There's a statement you don't think everyday.
Well. How are you going to handle this?
