UNIVEEEEERSE!!! (-al Gundam idea and discussion thread)

Tangent: yesterday, I went into FF.net's Gundam UC section just for the hell of it and found a recent three-chapter fic where, during the Dublin colony drop, Kamille drags himself out of bed and into the Zeta's cockpit.

By the time Fa catches up to him in the Hyaku Shiki, Kamille has wrecked half of the local Neo-Zeon forces before taking a blow that wrecked the cockpit and almost killed him... but due to his actions, Hayato survives and Fa goes on to almost singlehandedly take down the Psyco Gundam MKII, so Puru survives too. As of the third (and so far, last) chapter, Kamille woke up with his sanity mostly intact once more and immediately refused hospital treatment to join the Nahel Argama's crew despite still being bedridden from the injuries he sustained during his joyride in the Zeta, while Amuro popped by to give Judau a pep talk and tell Roux and Elle to stop having a genderflipped cockfight over Judau. :lol
You tell us about this awesome-sounding fic, and then you don't give us a link?!

Amita, I.... I thought you loved us!

FYI, I automatically ignore any and all claims of any side being wanked when it comes to Gundam and advise everyone else to do the same.

Western fandom's too small to be picky.

You're a writer who's actually been kicking around a good idea forever, you don't have the luxury of saying "there's nothing good so I accept bad" when you could be fixing the problem.

Amen. I mean, for my IBO fic, I might be tempted to make Rustal a more active villain. Or give the Bearded Man a larger role.

As someone in a recent Disney film said, 'woman up.'
I don't get it.

You're a writer who's actually been kicking around a good idea forever, you don't have the luxury of saying "there's nothing good so I accept bad" when you could be fixing the problem.
This actually brings to mind a number of questions.

1) Which good idea of amita's are you talking about?

2) Do I have this luxury that you claim amita doesn't?
2a) If I explain that I don't accept bad, but do accept average, does that change the above answer?

Anyway, I've had some more thoughts on my own Gundam AU idea thing, but those thoughts have given me mixed feelings because it seems like they're taking me on some kind of quasi-Matrix-isitic half-cyberpunk tangent that wants to accuse Wing, Unicorn, and IBO of being the coldhearted parents that left it abandoned at an orphanage's doorstep with a blanket covered with bizarre fantasy/mythological motifs.

<looks at the above>

.....the fuck did I even just say?

Anyway, about all I've got figured out thus far is that I really kind of liked the idea of the AC Gundams (in that technologically they weren't really THAT different from mook suits, they were simply more powerful -- to the point that ordinary humans could die from trying to pilot them on account of being squishy), and that rather than resort to genetic engineering, I was enamored with the idea that their pilots would be outfitted with cybernetic modifications (willingly or otherwise). However, this kind of heavy-duty roboticisation of humans is still a comparatively recent technology, and the protagonist was a test subject for many of the procedures and technologies currently in use. You'd think he'd be super pissed off about that, but given that he's got literally no personal memories of the time before not-AEUG sprung him out of containment, he actually kind of chill about that topic.

The resident Char Clone is sort of a darker take on early-series Zechs, whose outward appearance of being an honorable warrior is heavily tested by some of his comments and mannerisms. On the one hand, he never attacks an opponent from behind or while they're in retreat. On the other hand, he's... not exactly known for displays of mercy or restraint to wounded or disabled opponents that were slow in starting their retreat. Oh yeah, and he pilots a Gundam that is, shall we say.... more armed than a majority of its canonical counterparts.

I haven't made up my mind yet on whether psychic powers are going to be a thing (UC, AW, AG) or not (CC, PD, FC).

I imagine that I'll have an easier time of fleshing out my 'verse once I actually come up with a conflict and two or more opposing factions to be fighting it.

The Amuro Peggy Sue Thing, no but I'm actually doing something about (see also A Feddie Story), probably.

Slight edit of a thing I posted elsewhere a few years ago. It's a few days late, but I guess it can sort-of work as a V-day offering?

_______________

It is the year 0079 of the New Mid-Childa Calendar. Almost half a decade has passed since the Scaglietti Numbers attempted to overthrow the Time and Space Administration Bureau and throw the known universe into chaos. A girl named Vivio, the centerpiece of the Numbers' plot, has been given a new home under the Ace of Aces, Nanoha Takamachi.

Nine minutes ago, the Takamachi-Testarossa family and their friends began a heated sparring match divided by gender.

Initial fighting lasted for over one minute, and saw both teams lose over half their respective membership.

Onlookers are amazed by the carnage wrought in the name of a month's bragging rights.

Eight minutes have passed since the battle began. They are at... a stalemate.

On the women's side, Nanoha, Fate, Hayate, and Vivio were the last to stay on their feet.

On the men's side, Chrono and Zafira were the sole survivors.

And then suddenly, a timer went ding, causing Chrono to smirk. "Looks like we get our reinforcements now."

No sooner had he finished speaking, then everyone heard the roar of thrusters. Scant seconds later, a white humanoid behemoth appeared, and touched down on the battlefield.

Brandishing a beam saber in one hand, and a beam rifle in the other, the white Mobile Suit certainly cut an intimidating figure.

"Okay girls," Hayate quickly said. "Remember the plan! No matter what happens, nobody say it! The second somebody says it, we're boned!"

"Not that Nanoha would consider that a bad thing," Chrono quipped, prompting a blush both from Nanoha and from Fate.

"Really, big brother?! You went there in front of my daughter?! ...even if you're not wrong?!"

At that time, the pilot of the magnificent Mobile Suit broadcast a question over the external speakers, audibly smirking. "Okay ladies, time for a little pop quiz! What kind of Mobile Suit is this?!"

Vivio immediately raised her hand, and started jumping about in excitement. "Ooh, ooh, I know! I know what it is! Pick me, papa!"

Nanoha and Hayate had matching expressions of terror. "No! Don't answer him!"

"IT'S A GUNDAM!" Vivio cheered. Then, as the Nu Gundam loosed its Fin Funnels and began powering up, she suddenly realized what she just did. "...oops..."

Amuro laughed. "Attagirl, Vivio!"

Nanoha promptly attempted to regain control over the situation. "It's okay! Just because it's a meme that anyone who says those three words immediately gets curb stomped doesn't mean it'll actually happen!"

.....or, she might have just been in denial.

"Sure," she continued, "he's Amuro Ray, veteran ace pilot of three wars, the guy who won a sumo wrestling contest with a giant asteroid, and a ridiculously powerful Newtype with psychic reflexes that give him an incredible edge over any opponent... but we're Aces, too! We can totally - agh!"

Alas, they could not, because Amuro one-shotted all four of them with particle beams from his Funnels while Nanoha was attempting her rousing speech. Even with the Nu Gundam's Minovsky reactor and related technology swapped out with magical substitutes giving it the same kind of nonlethal capability that TSAB agents enjoyed with their Devices... particle beams'll still knock you the hell out, dude.

Chrono smirked, fist-bumping the Gundam. "Cheap shot works every. Single. Time."

Not long after, everybody picked themselves up and went out for a nice dinner, and the White Devils lived happily ever after.

................................................................................okay, fine, the White Devils and Fate, and everyone else too, I guess, lived happily ever after.

.........incidentally, I actually am working on making an actual storyline to explain/accompany this, but it's been slow going.

Hope I'll get to read the full version someday.
Work on it has more-or-less stalled until I can get around to finishing ZZ and then rewatching CCA (as well as a badly-needed rewatch of MGLN A's and StrikerS [gotta get back into that mil-SF groove]), but I actually do have a little something to offer y'all.... (in-progress, chapter version below is not final)

Nine days ago, the TSAB exploration and battleship
Wolfram stumbled upon a giant humanoid machine of unknown origin, adrift in interdimensional space.

Initial recovery efforts went more smoothly than expected, and the machine - which Commander Hayate Yagami referred to as a
Mobile Suit called the Nu Gundam - was loaded into one of the ship's larger cargo bays.

One life-form was found in the Mobile Suit's cockpit - a comatose adult human male wearing an atmospheric control suit.

Eight days have passed since this unusual encounter. The pilot is at last... awakening.

_______________

Amuro blinked rapidly, attempting to gather his wits as he woke up.

"Where... am I?"

Not immediately sensing any hostility in the area, Amuro took a moment to observe his surroundings.

This is... a ship's medical bay?

Amuro felt a presence, then, just before the door slid open. In stepped a short woman with long white hair, wearing a blue officer's uniform beneath a white overcoat. Her right eye was covered with a black eye patch, and though she physically appeared to be a child, one look into her remaining eye immediately dispelled such a notion.

As Amuro shook his head to better clear out some of the cobwebs, a holographic screen appeared to the woman's left, on which he could see a woman with short brown hair and blue eyes. If he had to guess, the second woman would probably be in her mid-twenties.

"He's awake now," said the first woman.

The woman on the screen nodded, and something about her apprehensive smile immediately caught Amuro's attention.

I'd just like to take a moment to rec' this fic, in which the crew of the Archangel (and the Zala team) have to go through a bunch of crossover universe/slider shenanigans. For those of you that might be into BattleTech, by the by, the second world the cast goes to is that one.

EDIT: I assume that it's listed as a Vandread crossover due to that being the latest world they've gone to, but honestly I'm still on chapter 14/47 (meaning, still in the BattleTech arc).

Archangel's Amazing Adventures Chapter 1: Archangel Of Cephiro?, a Vandread + Gundam Seed Crossover fanfic | FanFiction

Oh boy.

I am the BattleTech guy. Like, my net handle is actually a reference and always has been since I first registered for a website.

This is going to be a thing.

The author's own username, as he makes a point of explaining at one point, is also a BattleTech reference. Apparently.

I'm sure this doesn't need to be said, though, but one shouldn't skip ahead to the BattleTech stuff, because then you'd be asking why the hell the heroines from Magic Knight Rayearth are also on the ship and why Murrue has a magic armband that lets her hadoken people and stuff.

Also, while there's some vague level of activity, it's worth a quick interest check on an upcoming project of mine, since I've never brought it up on this thread before, and not recently anywhere else:

After Best Team's story in Dynasty Warriors Gundam, Elpeo Puru and her Qubeley MK-II get shunted into the Cosmic Era (if anyone asks why or how, my answer is "oh, Musha Gundam, you insufferable dick"). Sensing a budding Newtype as being in a really bad place emotionally and psychologically, she basically forcibly adopts herself as his new little sister to cheer him up, upon which Shinn Asuka is subjected to..... (drumroll please)....

.....

.....

The Puru Effect.

Guest-starring Puru Two, who has had up to HERE! with Rey's mopey clone bullshit and is in the mood to kick his ass for it!

The fact that you haven't read AAA is... interesting, because it's one of few good and great crossovers.
The fact that you are reading AAA is inspiring. Please, review it with valid critique?

I'm typically not a crossover guy, and even less a mass crossover guy, and it hasn't got much of a summary to sell me on it. (also he rambles on way too much in his author's notes so every time I've checked anyways I never make it further than that)

If you want a good BattleTech crossover by my standards go check out the Frozen one. I will report back.

Funny moment in Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2 today

(Athrun spawns as an ally in Johnny Ridden's Gelgoog)

(Lacus spawns as an enemy in the Infinite Justice)

Lacus: Where do you think you're going?

Athrun: I'm acting of my own free will!

(Athrun moves to attack Lacus)

Gyunei: Ignoring orders, huh? You're just begging for a court-martial.

I can't decide which possibility is funnier: Lacus coming after Athrun because he had enough to doing what she says, Lacus coming after Athrun because he didn't take the mobile suit she gave him or Gyunei's "sucks to be you, mate" tone?

Or the fact that Lacus immediately got beaten into the ground by Athrun, Gyunei and Seabook in a 3-on-1 gangbang, with Athrun scoring the final blow?
