Turn, Turn and Turn [A]gain! (Turn A Gundam Quest)

Restored White Doll Armor Stats
Turn-Type Armor (Non-Combat Mode).
Armor Grade: 6
Armor Save: 1+
Special:
-Beam Resistant 1: Beams that hit this unit lose one level of Penetration vs Armor.
-Nano Lamination 2: Damage from non-Penetrating Kinetic and Explosive attacks is reduced by 2 (to a minimum of 1). Nullifies damage from Point Defense Weapons.
Okay, yeah, repairing the armor was a good call. This should really help with the whole "losing 75% or more HP every single fight" that was hurting our ability to repair systems.

Your hands fly across holographic keys as you hurry to bring various systems online. Lightwave Shield and I-Field, Flight Mode…A quick tap of a new symbol prompts the White Doll's left arm to reach up and retrieve the Dober Gun. All the better to deal with the WaDom at long ranges.

Arisa opens a comm-link to you, Corin becoming part the three-way within seconds. "Hey, Loran! What's the plan?"

"We need to take out the Militia WaDom." You say with as much certainty as you can muster as the White Doll rises into the air. "Those ships are only coming here because they were fired upon-" Another Siege Beam lances out from the captured mobile suit to dissipate against the I-Field of an Almaiya, making you wince. "Remove them from the picture, and they might head back to the landing zone."

"If you say so." Corin shrugs.

"Please try to avoid cockpit hits." You plead as the three of you fly towards the WaDom together.

DC 10 Corin Nander (Leo Flight Type Custom) rolls 1d100 for Initiative VS WaDom = 24! Success!

DC 10 Arisa Gunhale (Leo Flight Type Custom) rolls 1d100 for Initiative VS WaDom = 66! Major Success!

DC 40 Loran Cehack (White Doll) rolls 1d100 for Initiative VS WaDom = 56! Success!

Corin, Arisa and Loran go before the WaDom! Arisa goes first!

Arisa Leo 6/6

Dober Gun 1d2 Attacks = 2!

DC 10 = 84, 30! 1 Major Success! 1 Success! -10 to Hit DC next Turn!

2DC 4 Target Armor Save = 2, 6! 1 Failure! 1 Success!

WaDom takes 4 Integrity Damage!

WaDom has been defeated!

It doesn't take long. Arisa, and Corin have an easier time flying thanks to their experience and working flight modes, and Arisa manages to blaze ahead of you to fire two shots from her Dober Gun. Before the WaDom can fire another beam at the ships, even react to your arrival, its head has been taken off by a shell.

The two militiamen in the cockpit are too stunned to do anything but make their Mobile Suit fall over when the three of you land around them. With the instigator removed, you look back to the ships.

The good news is that they are turning away from the Heim Mines.

The bad news is that they are doing this in response to the surge of Militia forces surging towards the Moonrace Landing Zone. Kapools, armored cars, aircraft, even a captured Mobile Rib. All streaming towards Moonrace occupied territory.

You decide to-

You and the others speed up as fast as you can in pursuit of the Militia. They must have brought everything, for there are hundreds of aircraft according to the White Doll's sensors, not to mention armored cars, dozens of Kapools, the unarmed FLAT, and even captured Moonrace suits like a Mobile Rib and a WaD.

And it will all be so much dust if they are not stopped from killing themselves at the Dianna Counter.

*

Even with your damaged Flight Mode you overtake the Militia a few kilometers away from Moonrace territory, before they enter the practical (and political) ranges of any Dianna Counter weapon. Speakers, radio and Pressure set to max, you take a deep breath and-

"STOP!"

Scream. Through the speakers, through the entire radio spectrum, and on some level into their very thoughts.

The ground forces come to a crashing halt, barring a Kapool front and center that continues for a second and emanates a familiar Pressure. Sochie. Overhead the aircraft are flying around in chaotic patterns as if they were a hive of disturbed hornets, but most of them seem to refrain from going further.

"Where," You continue in a more reasonable volume. "Is Colonel Michael?"

With that said you simply enter the mob, following the collective Pressure of the Militia until you find a truck near the rear with some armor welded onto it. The Colonel exits to meet you.

You cut him off before he can speak. "Colonel, what is the meaning of this?"

He adjusts his hat. "Today's Moonrace landings are a grave violation of the promise that Queen Dianna gave us! Though Lord Guin failed to give his consent, the Inglessan Militia remains an independent entity! And when he refuses to act in the defense of the nation it is we who must carry the torch! With the Mechanical Dolls we have assembled here your White Doll is no longer neccessary!"

"Why would you do this? To yourselves, to Inglessa? The Militia cannot defeat the Dianna Counter, but the illusion that it can is what the negotiations depend on!" You take the White Doll past the Militia as you return to where you, Corin and Arisa landed. At the head of the mob, you continue. "As long as Inglessa's White Doll is the face of the Earth's military the Dianna Counter will believe that simply taking Ameria by force will be too costly, but if you force the issue they will know that the White Doll is all there is!"

You don't need to sense their Pressure to tell that none of them enjoy being told that there is nothing they can do to fight back against the people who invaded their homeland, but you must press on. "As long as the talks continue there will be the chance of a peaceful resolution, but for that to happen the illusion of parity between our militaries must be upheld!" A flick of the controls has the White Doll turn around to face the trio of approaching battleships while deploying the Dober Gun into the waiting left hand.

"So hold still and present a united front!" You call over the White Doll's shoulder, Dober Gun readied but not raised towards the already slowing battleships. "This landing is still a violation and we must show strength!"

The three Alamiyas hover in place on their side of the border for a few minutes before they return to the landing zone, allowing you to finally relax.

"Now-" You begin while holstering your weapon. "We wait."

Minutes pass as the whole lot of you watch the battleships join the transports hovering above the landing zone.

"Hello?!" Somebody calls out. "How long are we gonna just stand here?"

You switch off the speakers so you can sigh without anyone hearing. That done you turn the White Doll around and switch them back on. "Until Lord Guin-"

An alarm cuts you off. Surprised, you reflexively follow the popup and turn the White Doll towards the Moonrace landing zone.

One by one, their ships are taking off into the sky to join the new arrivals. They hold formation until all of them are airborne, upon which they turn as one to the southwest and move.

"They're going for the central Sunbelt." You mumble to yourself in realization. After a minute of watching the ships float through the sky you turn back to the Militia.

Lord Guin has his head in his hands when you get to meet with him the morning after the Moonrace fleet left the Nocis area. "Hello?"

"Hm?" He perks up. "Oh. It's you, Laura. Good. I assume you are aware of the situation?"

You and the Leo pilots were the first to reach the landing zone once the fleet was out of sight, finding nothing but empty houses and abandoned civilian vehicles. The Dianna Counter packed up literally everyone and left. "Yes, sir."

"I've made inquiries with Luzianna and Floria. The Moonrace armada was spotted by aircraft from both nations. If they maintain their current course they will be in former Albam by tomorrow." He leans back in his seat. "Loran." He sighs. "This means war."

*

Once you leave Lord Guin's office you find yourself in possession of two things:

A set of orders. It is going to take a few weeks to ready the Militia to be deployed in a foreign land, not to mention actually making the journey, so you are to help out wherever you can.

An actual rank. Captain of the Laura Rola Autonomous Mechanical Doll Corps, answering directly to Lord Guin.

All Systems gain +1 Condition!

You have very little free time during the packing, but enough to set the Priority Repair.

The flight system already works, just not at 100%.

This is a Turn unit, just because it's stuck in non-combat mode and seriously damaged doesn't make it not work.

Yes, but we'd be handling fights over a much larger area in the future, and the ability to fly reliably and quickly is going to be quite important.

For a moment you look across the assembled Militia. A hush spreads through the crowd, as does a communal sense of anticipation. Will you say more? What will you say? What happens now?

Wordlessly, and with a minimum of fuss, you turn back around and take to the air. Corin and Arisa are right behind you, and fall into formation as you fly towards the Moonrace Landing Zone…

The week is spent packing. Packing supplies, readying trucks and Kapools for transport by train, and a million other things. There is also the matter of formalizing Corin and Arisa's defection, which goes well, and mending bridges with the Militia, which goes less well (Sochie and Miashei are sulking but otherwise accepting, Joseph and some Militiamen keep glaring at you, and with the rest of them there is the fabled cold shoulder).

Lord Guin is coming too, along with a few of his ministers and a large chunk of his diplomatic staff, so he has been in and out of meetings with Militia officers, important landowners, businessmen, nobility and elected officials to prepare Inglessa for the head of state being out of the country for the foreseeable future.

As for yourself, when you are not helping to pack you try to take the time to check in on the people that will be left behind when you and the rest of the Militia leaves. To your surprise this turns out to be nobody. Keith, flush with money from selling the FLAT (a fact he has no shame in admitting) and his former employer's bakery, is relocating to southern Luzianna to start a business. Fran will be attaching herself to the Militia as a war correspondent. And Dianna-as-Kihel will be coming with Lord Guin, giving you more opportunities to fix that mess before somebody else catches on.

In a way it burns that you were unable to stop this. That despite everything you did, it will still come to war. You work out your anger by-

Week 9
Week 9 Interbellum

[X] Get your friends together for an evening at a nice restaurant.

"WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"

"Be quiet Corin." Grumbles Arisa as she adjusts the weight of the larger man on her back. "This is all your fault."

"And it was such a nice restaurant too…" Miashei sighs as she hugs her arms around her.

"I am in no way paying for this." Keith sternly declares, Verlaine nodding beside him. "The food was good though."

"Lord Guin will not be happy about this, Loran. Even he wouldn't let a damage claim this large slide, no matter how fond he is of you." Dianna-as-Kihel is no less disapproving.

"Forget about Lord Guin, what about Mother?" Sochie sighs. "I guess it's great that we'll be out of the country for a while."

"Loran." Fran pleads as she grabs your shoulder. "We should get out of here before someone with a camera shows up."

You stand at the head of the group, facing the burning restaurant. The night had started nicely, but thanks to an accident involving Corin, alcohol and a candlestick had caught fire, leading to the lot of you standing out here.

But Fran is right; you need to get out of here before you have to deal with more than monetary reparations. Thank God everybody got out before the flames consumed the building. Your slow, discreet flight takes you around the fire's audience and into the near-empty street of nighttime Nocis. There used to be a bit of a nightlife in this city, but the first night of WaDom bombings led to people fleeing to the countryside. There has been a slow trickle back now that the immediate Moonrace presence is gone, but only time can tell how that is going to change.

A smile spreads across your face as you near Bostonia. "I had fun, though."

"Me too." Sochie agrees. "We'll have to do this again when this is over. Maybe a Christmas Dinner together?"

You are about to answer when a wave of forlorn Pressure strikes you. Sochie senses it as well, for she too stops to look at Corin and Arisa. The former is staring at something only he can see, but the latter is looking at you, Sochie and Miashei.

"Home before Christmas, huh?" She smiles wryly.

"Y-yes?" Sochie answers, hesitating at the older woman's Pressure. "Now that we can just fight the Dianna Counter this will be over before we know it! Right?"

Arisa gives the three of you another once-over. "Look. I say this as someone who has fought a war before." She hesitates. "In fact, I'm actually the oldest person alive right now. Or I would be if I had actually lived out the time between now and being born. Huh. But anyway-"

"SIR TREIZE!" Corin wails, having chosen that moment to interrupt her. "IT'S NOT FAIR! UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-"

"Great." Arisa mutters, her words almost inaudible with Corin's noise. "I had forgotten how he gets when Christmas comes up. Two thousand years apart will do that I guess…"

You deal with the awkwardness by bidding goodnight and goodbye to those not joining you at Bostonia, and then the rest of you enter to sleep off the long night.

Lord Guin is, as Dianna-as-Kihel promised, furious. Only the owner's willingness to keep his mouth shut about Laura Rola's involvement in the accident in exchange for some extra dollars saves you from serious punishment.

You, Corin, Arisa, Sochie and Miashei still get double shifts until the packing efforts are complete.

Totally worth it.

The trip to northwestern Floria begins in the middle of the week. Most the Militia will make the journey by train, airship or simply drive or walk there under their own power. You, Corin and Arisa will have a different job. The Laura Rola Autonomous Mechanical Doll Corps will be scouting ahead of the Militia advance, specifically in places where it is difficult getting reconnaissance aircraft to do the job. There isn't much in the way of signal reception up there, so you have to find Lord Guin's railborne headquarters again to make your reports.

This back and forth does give you some hours of free time…

Choose 2

[] Rope Arisa and Corin into teaching you how to be a better pilot.

[] See if you can find Sochie and Miashei anywhere.

[] Experiment with Pressure.

[] Check on Sid, see what he has been up to lately.

[] Go on some extra patrols.

[] Spend time with the disguised Queen Dianna.
