"Feather of eagle, Beatle of Dung, Skin of Caterpillar and bit of lung!"

So far sitting in on Ms Olga Splinterina's class has been-

"Miss Splinterina, is the rhyming really necessary?"

"On a technical level? No. On a symbolic, traditional and cultural level? Yes so be quiet and make sure your constipation potions don't over boil!"

...interesting.

She was clearly a bit snippy with her students but-

"Gah!" A girl in the backs potion began to bubble and froth uncontrollabley and Olga rushes over

"einfrieren nunc!" She called out and it froze solid. She then turned to the girl it belonged to.

"Mindy?"

"Yes?" She asked, clearly both startled and nervous.

"Meet me after class. Your not in trouble but we are going to analyze what you did wrong with this, understand?"

"Ok ma'am"

She did seem to be handling teaching well enough.

"And Rico I told you no gum in class, throw that away right now!"

"...No wait! Not in your pot-"

Though the resulting potion explosion made you require a bath immediately afterwards.
-----------‐------------------------------------------------------
It was a known fact in the mystic world that magical academys played something of a double role. On one hand they were places for young minds to gain a basic arcane education.

On the other they were also research centers for it's staff and older students to experiment and hone already masterd craft further via research projects.

So far there was only one member of the staff seriously interested in pursuing such things.

Calamitos.

He was currently most interested in discovering a way to counter total soul destruction.

So far you've mostly been sitting a watching him dig through ancient arcane texts he either brought from his previous workshop or borrowed from the library.

But today you're going to be helping him test his first theoretical counter.

This is called a dark-rune-blade

He said, gesturing to the pitch black sword coverd in ancient markings he just handed you.

It has the ability to destroy souls up to a certain strength. I have long ago learned how to resist that level of soul destruction, but it is a good benchmark for if my new method could be useful at all

"Fair enough."

And with that he pulled out a glass jar containing the swirling mass of soul.

In life this one butchered children younger than the ones we teach. As such nothing of value would be lost should the method fail

He proceeded to draw a circle containing several other symbols on the jar before setting it on the ground.

When though are ready

You swing the blade fast and hard shattering the jar and you hear a ghastly scream as the soul dissolves.

Back to the drawing board then
----------------------------------------------------------------
"Thank you for inviting me on this walk headmaster."

Madame Akari said simply as the two of you strolled through school courtyard.

It was the weekend So there were a number of students walking about around you, luckily you were more than capable of making a muting spell around the two of you to keep the conversation private.

"So, how's your granddaughter been doing?"

"Akiko is doing well enough. I'll admit I was at first somewhat concerned, she's gone to mundane schooling while practicing and learning the mystic at home all her life. This is her first real exposure to secular magic education. Still her grades have kept up well enough so far."

"That's good. Has she made any freinds?"

"Here and there."

The two of you walked past the inland salt water lake the Academy had provided Ming Xu where he was currently taking a mid afternoon nap.

"I must ask headmaster, what exactly was your thought process when you hired the individuals you did?' Madame Akari suddenly asks with a raised eyebrow.

"Whst do you mean?"

"Miss Splinterina or Dr Black are one thing. I won't claim to understand their senses of fashion or sensibility but they're both clearly competent and professional enough, and Min Xu obviously makes sense but Calamitos is explicitly an inhuman abomination, 'Star Beard' is a madman plain and simple and I attempted to get a read on Mr Craftlove's soul and had indescribable nightmares for a week."

"Ah, I see."
------------------------------------------------------
You were taking a casual stroll through the halls when you first me him.

"Young man shouldn't you be in class?"

You ask the boy in front of you with a clear as day 'just got caught skipping class' look on his face.

"U-um..."

"Relax kid, what's your name?"

"J-joey S-s-smith!'

"Nice to meet you Joey, any particular reason your playing hooky?"

"N-no!"

"You aren't a very good liar you know."

Joey let out a defeated sigh

"Yeah. Yeah I know..."

"So, ya wanna talk about it?"

"I wanna go home."

"And why is that? Family emergency? Cause I can definitely see what I can do to pull some strings if it's really urgent."

"N-not quite. You see, my whole life I've been raised by my aunty and uncle. They've been good to me, treated me like they're own and they raised me in a pretty traditional christian household."

Ah, you think you have an idea of what's going on. It's far from uncommon from first generation mystics to go through crisises over the conflict with pre existing beliefs.

"I see. Well listen Joey, I know having the whole magic thing thrust on you can be rather startling, especially without any magic family who know how to help, but listen, magic is not inherently satanic or a sin. It's simply a tool beyond what most people to access."

"I...thanks for the pep talk Miss but that ain't what this is about..."

"Then what is it?"

"Well, you said it can be hard for people who don't have any magic family but I do. Both my parents are alive and magic! And they...they abandoned me on my auntie and uncles doorstep so they could focus on magic without having to raise me! But when I started showing signs that I was magic my auntie and uncle got in contact looking for answers just for my parents-"

He practically spat the word

"To up and take me and dump me here!"

Well...this situation certainly requires a delicate touch.
---------------------------------------------------------
Illusion based magic was a...interesting beast.

It required a level of imagination and control few truly realized.

One part of training it is meditation.

Focusing on yourself and feeling, hearing and smelling the world around you.

You focus on the tiniest bugs and slowly but surely amplify their low buzz to a roar.

You focus on the light breeze and turn it's sensation on your skin into a stab of chill.

By the end of the day you feel you've made some progress.

[X] [Akari] Hmm so Calamitos, while an inhuman abomination as you put it, he is extremely knowledgeable and so far haven't done anything morally reprehensible that prevents him from teaching. He is aware of our morals and accommodates them because we are his means of being remembered. By passing his knowledge on, he is in essence immortalized. So long as we don't threaten that, I doubt he would cause any problems.

Star Beard is the best of the two applicants. Professor Larso is a good candidate but we can't exactly teach through theory alone. We do need practical experience and Star Beard is a very capable Mystic that is capable of combining multiple fields into his spell casting, even if he is insane.

Mr Craftlove... yeah he is a bit of a gamble. He is very likely to be the best Shaman on the planet and have access to lore that no ordinary shaman would know where to look. He said that he wants to share that information and I thought that we would benefit from that knowledge so it is a mutually beneficial relationship. If he is somehow planning to take over the world or something, better it be here where we can see it than where we couldn't.

[X] [Joey] Ahh, they do sound like horrible parents. Unfortunately, even if you do run away from school and fail to graduate, they would likely have the means to find you and force you to study at another school with more restrictions this time. Another option is that you keep attending this school, at least for a few years, until you are considered a legal adult. Then you can do whatever you want afterwards as they can't do anything anymore. Maybe go to a mundane college abroad or a get a mundane job you enjoy. But in the end this is your life and only you have the final say in the matter.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
"Regardless of Calamitos's physical and metaphysical nature he is extremely knowledgeable and has shown a understanding of and willingness to accommodate our moral standards. Until he can discover a means of countering complete soul destruction he's truly set on immortality through passing his knowledge on. For the time being I believe he won't be a problem."

The two of you begin walking a circle around the lake.

"Star Beard is insane yes, but he has solid practical knowledge and is overall a skilled mystic. I truly believe that despite the questionableness of his mental faculties he has the capacity to be a good teacher. As for Mr Craftlove...I'll admit he is a risk, however I earnestly believe the information and knowledge he has access to are some things almost nobody else likely has. He is far beyond a normal Shamen. So while yes he is quite unsettling and I will take full responsibility if he turns hostile, for now I stand by my decision."

Madame Akari sighed and nodded "Very well, I suppose all I can do for now is trust you and stay alert."

"Watch out!"

The two of you suddenly jump further apart as a student on what appears to be a surfboard with a flight enchantment rushes between you before going higher in the air, closely followed by another on a bicycle with a similar modification and a third on a broomstick.

"Watch it! Your gonna get us in trouble!"

"What's that? I couldn't hear you from last place!"

Akari shakes her head disapprovingly. "Some of these children really need to learn to be more careful."

"Hehe, well mabey it's about time the school started offering some proper extracurriculars, help work out that energy out of class."

She shrugged "I suppose"
-------------------------------------------------------------
"Hmm, that is a troubling situation but...Joey, what would you do after you get out?"

"Um, go home?"

"Well unless you have enough money on hand to get a plane ticket or think your stealthy enough to go full stowaway."

The boy looks down at his shoes as he walks next to you through the halls.

"Not to mention, your parents are mystics. They're more likely than not capable of finding you and bringing you to a different, stricter institution putting you back at square one."

He sniffles quietly

"Then what do I do?"

"You tough it out here for the next few years, at least till you're a legal adult. Then? Go wherever you want, try for mundane college, get a mundane job you like? Whatever you want so long as it's your choice."

Joey wipes his eyes and after moment simply says "ok."

"Great, now your clearly in no place to go to your current class so I'll cut you a deal, you take this period off as long as you promise to go to your next class, and I'll remove that absence from your record?"

He looks up and smiles at you.

"Ok children, today we're learning a flashbang spell! So please put on the special goggles located under your desks as I demonstrate!"

You barley have time to shut your eyes before he shouts

"Sidus clarissima!"

And the room fills with light.

Luckily when the brightness dies down you can see all the students were fast enough to put the specialized enchanted goggles on in time.

Still, you might want to have a talk with him about classroom etiquette when teaching certain spells...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When it came to magical school extracurriculars, there were two big ones.

The first was magic Duels.

But since There are rules about students generally needing to be at least second year to participate in such activities and have them officially endorsed by the school, you decided to look into the second.

Skie racing.

In it's purest form it was functionally just exactly what it sounded like. Flight based racing.

What made mystic skie racing exciting on both the professional and school level was the raw versatility of what you could race on.

Classic broomstick? Go ahead! Mundane land or water vehicle tricked out with enchantments and Charms to tast the air? Welcome! Straight up Wyvern or Pegasus back riding? If there's no proof ya put em on steroids then they're good to go!

And thus was how you came to stand before the collection of students before you.

"Firstly, I'd like to say it's an honor to welcome you all to the official Ignis Fatuus Lyceum skie racing team!"

You created an image of some small fireworks and the kids clapped.

"Now, why don't you come up one by one, say your name and method of flight!"

First was the boy who'd barreled past you and Madame Akari setting this chain of events in motion. He was a Japanese boy with short spikey brown hair.

"Yo, I'm Tai Kujo and I fly with a enchanted surfboard!"

Next was a girl with red hair in pigtails and freckles.

"I'm Lidia Salvi and I fly with a broom Ma'am."

After her was another girl. This one had black have tied into a ponytail.

"Heya! Names Kairi Watanabe and I ride a magic bicycle!"

Then was another boy, this one with dark skin and a lanky figure.

"Name's Lewis Jake and I enchanted my shoes to be able to run on air!" He said, sounding supremely proud of himself.

And last was short boy with blond hair.

"I'm Alexander Duray and I also use a broom."

"Wonderful! We'll meet in the courtyard in mornings when there's no class to practice and hold races. Once your all ready and the seasons started you'll be competing against other schools teams. Understood?"

"Yes ma'am!"

At there chorused response you smile.

"Great, then let's get to it!"
------------------------------------------------------------------
"Thank you for agreeing to meet with me Mr Craftlove."

He sits across from you in your office. A pot of tea on your desk.

"Thank you for having me. So, what did you wish to speak about?"
----------------------------------------------------------------------
With your abilities, keeping an ear out and getting information on the latest rumors was relatively easy.

The main issue was sorting through and tuning out the dreck.

"I heard Dr Black's secretly a man and hides it with that suite for some reason!"

"Supposedly, and you didn't hear this from me! Madame Akari and Calamitos are exes from when he was human!"

"You know Ms Splinterina was actually born with green skin? She just adopted the witch gimmick to make herself seem less weird!"

Unfortunately student gossip tended to be as inane as it was ridiculous.
-----------------‐---------------------------------------------
After asking a few students if they'd be willing to take part in a little experiment you were conducting. You proceeded to trap them in a maze of illusions.

This was to train your fine control via ensuring they were illusions that, if noticed, a student on their level could brake out of thus forcing you to work on Subtlety and misdirection.

Ultimately only half of the students 'escaped' so you'd say you did alright.

[X] How has teaching been for you so far? Do you like it? Were there any problems?
[X] How are things in the library?
[X] Any of the students that you find remarkable, perhaps?
[X] Perhaps some conflicts with other staff?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Oh just a general check in. So, how has teaching been treating you, do you like it? Any problems?"

"It has been quite enjoyable I must say, some of the students are a bit unnerved by me but no less than anyone else and sharing my knowledge has been truly enjoyable. No major issues so far."

"Good to here. And how're things in the library?"

"Just fine, most students only need one firm reminder to be quiet if they start making noise and I rarely see an egregiously late returns. Though that might simply be do to us not being open that long yet."

You take a sip of tea and let out a light chuckle.

"I suppose. Any students you find particularly remarkable so far?"

"Hmm, well young Ms Milla Electri is certainly skilled. Frankly I think she's taken to my unique teaching better than any other I've taught so far. Though from what I can tell, she's one of the few actually quite taken with Olga's 'movement' unfortunately, but oh well."

"I see, well have you had any conflicts with other staff members?" You ask taking another sip.

"I'm aware Madame Akari is uneasy around me but she's yet to say anything outright to myself. Ming Xu and Calamitos both have inclination to my true nature but Ming let me off with a stern look and a warning not to too severely affect the natural order while Calamitos simply asked if I had an answer to his issue which I unfortunately could not provide him and that was that."

"Fair enough. I believe that will be all."

"Understood."

And with that he walked out of the room without once having touched his own glass.

"Now children, please always remember that what constitutes the basic elements varies wildly culture to culture. Many focus on the basic four in fire, wind, water and earth but others include the likes of wood and metal."

Ming Xu declared as he paced around the classroom giving his lecture.

"Technically speaking, all of these interpretations are both righ and wrong. For you see, all things on the physical level are made of atoms while on the spiritual and mystic level they have a counterpart in atomos, a term that is in many ways the origin of the atom term but has for many a year held a different meaning for mystics and mages."

you sit invisibly on his desk and try your hardest not to lay down and take a nap, fundamentals were important but damn were they boring to actually listen to an explanation of.

Still, you steel yourself against boredom and instead focus on the class itself.

Most honestly seem to be thinking similarly to you. Figures, most children as a rule aren't always the most patient when it came to theory. But as with all things, there was an exception.

Akiko Akira. Vice headmaster Madame Akari's only granddaughter and one day potential heiress to a respected local exorcist group.

From what you could tell she actually seemed to hold the appearance of total focus, diligently writing down notes and looking like she was hanging off Ming Xu's every word.

Hmmm.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
After the previous failed attempt Calamitos has decided to try a different route to resisting soul destruction.

To put it simply, mine plan is to instead of using direct protection. Strengthen mine own soul so that it can nor be erased.

A fairly simple idea. Now for the execution.

He had gathered up a myriad of stones which he carved specific mystic runes and sigils into. Then he had you arrange them in a specific pattern while Calamitos summoned a spirit to test the strengthening method on.

Soon enough a spectral figure was standing in the center of the stones and Calamitos was chanting an incantation so fast you couldn't make it out.

Next thing you know there's a flash of light and...

The Spirits still there, looking unchanged.

"Sooo, did that do anything?"

Yes. It is stronger than before. But not to the desired degree. I will need to readjust some things for now, thank thee for thy aid.

"Happy to help!"
---------------------------------------------------------------
You were a big enough person to admit to yourself when you were wrong.

And you were probably wrong to assume starting that team would be a quick solve to the students with too much pent up energy.

Case in point? One Tai Kujo.

Who was currently sitting across from you in your office after a public incident involving him flying into urban traffic.

"What were you thinking Tai?"

He snorted "What? I wanted extra practice and was told I couldn't do it in school outside of team practice."

"I see. However why did you feel the need to drag innocent mundane motorists into it?"

At that he had the decency to blush and look away mumbling "I didn't mean to..."

You let out let out a sigh.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
You decided to combine your personal training with information gathering. Specifically?

Casting an illusion around yourself to impersonate a student and spending the day talking and gossiping with them.

It both tested your stamina with keeping the illusion so long and gave you a chance to inquire into things more personally.

Still, point for training.

Not so much info gathering...

[X]Yes

[X] He knows why he is studying magic here, under the cover of your illusions, doesn't he?
-[X] And did he think that if he asked you to give him the opportunity for more practice, you would refuse him? After all, you are here to make sure the students are comfortable learning magic. It stings a little when they just ignore you.
-[X] You will inform him about the punishment assigned to him later.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Your had to quickly cast a silencing spell to cover your light chuckle.

It appeared that well she was keeping up with her grades for the most part, Akiko wasn't entirely the studious young girl her grandmother built her up as.

Case in point?

Her incredible poker face of seeming interested in the lesson while instead of notes writing out pretty cure fanfiction on her paper.

Frankly she wasn't a half bad writer.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Tai, do you know why we keep ourselves and our talents secret?"

"Something about witch hunts and responsibilities?"

"Almost, essentially in the modern world mundane people outnumber mages to such a degree that if things went very wrong and a conflict ignited between our groups it would devastate both sides because they have a big enough numbers advantage that they could theoretically slaughter through most weaker mystics and even a few of the stronger ones with things like very lucky sniper shots."

Tai shifts in his seat.

"And in achieving those losses a massive degree of the mundane world would of course also be slaughtered by the strongest of the strong magic. Such a conflict would have high odds of uprooting human society and returning us to the days when strong mystics could just pretend to be God's and completely screw over most of the population. Or do I need to remind you of the tales of mad King Zeus?"

Tai shook his head meekly.

"Tai." You say softly, making him look up.

"You should have been first wiling to just ask for extra practice time. I would have given it. My job is to ensure you feel comfortable learning magic. Understand?"

"Yes ma'am."

"Ok then, I'll inform you of you of your ppunishment later.

On the advisement of Madame Akari Tai found himself on no magic cleaning duty for various places around the Academy for a week.

Remember children, thou shall not pass unless thy can at least make the rats walk several steps. Simply twitching is a basic nerv response mundane technology could achieve. This will test thy's true mystic abilities

You watch intently as the various students each with a dead rat with a still mostly intact body on there desks nodded at his instructions.

All things considered? From what you can tell Calamitos is actually a fairly competent teacher.

As for the students?

Very good Lidia, thous control is commendable

Calamitos said as he stopped by the seat of the redheaded girl from the skie racing team who had just made her rat do as instructed.

...followed by making do a perfect flip.

She blushed brightly "Th-thank you sir!"

Overall a suprisinglyuneventful class period.
-----‐----------------------------‐----------------------------------------
Speaking of racing team most of the kids were actually doing admirably well.

Tai had managed to finally channel his flying urges a bit better, though he had developed a bit of a rivalry with Kairi.

Lewis tended to miss practice more than the rest, but from what you can tell that's mostly from him just being kinda lazy. Still when he did show he pulled his own weight.

Lidia was doing well enough though the girl could definitely do with some more confidence.

Alexander...was kinda a hard ass for his age. He was so strict with his teammates it felt like he was a little coach.

...it was actually becoming something you might need to talk to him about.
----------------------------------------------------------
You sat besides Ming Xu on the grass of the courtyard, both of you sipping tea.

"Thank you for agreeing to speak with me."

"No no, thank you for agreeing to meet me to talk outside."

"It was nothin."

You take another sip of your drink.

"The tea is lovely by the way."

"Well I have had a few of your lifetimes to perfect my brew."

You nod.

"So, did you wish to speak to me about anything in particular?" He asked raising an eyebrow.

"Well for one, do you think you could do anything to, I don't know, liven up your lectures a little?"

"Whatever do you mean?"

"It's just, I noticed that out of all your classes so far, you seem to have the highest rate of students losing focus during lessons."

Ming let out a sigh

"I'm aware. I'm afraid I underestimated the hurtles that would come with my lack of experience teaching..."

"It's alright, though if I may make an suggestion?"

He nodded

"Mabey try making use of water constructs and the like to better illustrate your point and keep students engaged?"

"Hmm, I suppose that could work. Thank you."

"No problem!"
----------------‐-----------------------------------------------------
Joey was...doing better.

He still wasn't quite fully adapted but he was doing a bit better. Passing classes and socializing and all that.

He actually seems to have become freinds with Lewis and a few others.

Still only so much can be guessed from a distance so you decided to talk to him outright and invite him to your office.

Joey entered the room nervously

"Relax kid, your not in trouble."

"Oh, then what do you want to talk about?"
----------------------------------------------------------‐-----------
Asking Madame Akari to spar with you to increase your combat casting capabilities had seemed like a good idea on paper.

In practice the old woman was terrifying.

"Gaibu kara moeru seinaru hikari!"

You felt the sweat on your brow evaporate into mist as her latest wave of blinding white flames obliterated a dozen more illusions of you.

You had to work very carefully to bend the light around you subtly. At first you tried to stick to the shadows but she guessed correctly as that being the first place to hide and that's how you lost round 1.

Round two ended when her keen old eyes picked up a light distortion and knocked you on your ass.

You attempt to race to get close enough to actually land a hit while maintaining your disguise...

....and got another face full of fire for your efforts.

You woke up less than an hour later in the infirmary good as new.

Luckily between Madame Akari holding back and Dr Black's skills you've come out alright.

Well, except for having to receive a lecture of your own from your vice headmaster on everything you did wrong while Dr Black did a final check over.

You pull Alexander aside after practice.

"Alexander, we need to talk."

"Are we finally kicking Lewis off the team?"

"Huh? No, why?"

"He's late so often!" The short boy exclaimed, waving his arms for emphasis.

"Yes but he's also keeping his time up if not outright improving so I see no reason to make a fuss over it."

Alexander let out a huff and asked "Then what is this about?"

"Just that, your attitude."

"What? Being the only on here who takes this seriously?"

You sigh exasperated.

"Alexander...can I just call you Alex?"

"No."

"Fine, Alexander I started this team so that people like Tai could work out extra energy and not so you could get over competitive before we've even formally competed against another school."

"But what's the point of anything if your not doing it to win!?"

He was suddenly shouting but as soon as the last word left his mouth he seemed to relize what he did and blushed, looking away.

"I-I'm sorry headmaster. That was uncalled for."

"It's fine Alexander just..."

"..just try and be a little less harsh with your teammates?"

He gave a noncommittal grumble and walked off...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I just wanted to see how you were settling in after our last big discussion. See if your doing all right."

He actually perked up a bit.

"Oh, well I've actually been doing pretty good all things considered!"

He snorts derisively

Joan Halvorson's classroom was undeniably different from the other teachers. Of course given her subject this is only natural.

It was frankly more akin to a stable than a proper classroom, but it seems that fit her just fine.

"Alrighty kiddos! This here-"

She gestured to a goose next to her as tall and wide as a human man.

"Is what's formally called a goldhama gos, or more common like? A golden Goose!"

This sends a small wave of excited murmurs through the class.

"Now, because they're an entire species capable of destroying economy's there's alot of strict paperwork and regulations about being able to legally breed or even own one, luckily for teaching purposes-"

As she was explaining, a small light suddenly shown on the floor and caught it's attention. The tiny red light danced around causing the bird to swivel it's head and elicit a small chuckle from some of the class.

You look and see a random girl in front using an illusion spell to make a impromptu laser pointer.

Your about to help out and stop this disruption by dispelling it-

"HISS!"

...when suddenly the goose let out a iratated hiss and lunged at the students!

Just as your about to step in yourself Joan calls

"Filum Pakk rundt!"

And her prosthetic hand turned into a mass of silvery wires that wrap around the golden Goose, restraining it seemingly without hurting it.

"Goddammit! What'd I tell you kids bout agitating the animals?!"

She cries as she forces it into a pen before pointing at the girl responsible.

"Well thank you for volunteering for stable cleanin duty!"

So far so good with the racing team.

Lewis's attendance was still spotty but he kept up when present, Tai has actually started setting some respectable personal bests, same for Kairi. Lidia was keeping up well enough and Alexander actually had calmed down.

...a bit.

"Dammit Tai! What did I tell you about that turn?"

The aforementioned blond's voice called.

"I'm sorry! Hey, could you show me that new speed enchantment you found again?"

Despite fuming at the other boys nonchalant reply he did as asked and pulled out a book, flipping to a page with the referenced enchantment.

...and he blushed bright red as the rest of the team casually leaned over his shoulder to get a better look at it.

He was still a bit bossy and no one would deny the kid's perfectionist streak, but it seemed he had toned it down and appeared to actually have become freinds with the rest of the team.

You were casually walking down a mundane street in Tokyo, window shopping and enjoying some time outside the academy when you suddenly felt a strange but undeniably supernatural feeling in the air and rushed to investigate.

You rushed down an alleyway and found yourself fave to face with a dark spirit.

It had a humanoid silhouette, hornes and a mouth filled with razor sharp off white teeth.

These were the only definitive traits you could make out in it's smokey and shadowy form.

Though you barley had time to process this before it moved to pounce on you!

You quickly jumped back and tried not to panic.

Cause the fact of the matter was you would be next to usless here, spiritual beings had naturally far higher immunities to illusion magic than creatures with more traditionally physical bodies.

Luckily you weren't alone against it for long.

"Fūin, yami no seirei o fūjikome!"

And like that in a whirlwind the entity was suddenly sucked towards somone behind you. Who turned out to be Akiko!

She was holding some sort of jug or container that was sucking the spirit into it. Once it was in she put a cork over the entrance and slapped some sort of seal over the cork.

"Few!" She visibly slumped.

"Thank goodness I caught it in time..." and that's when she actually seemed to notice you

"Oh, Headmaster! Funny seeing you here!" She said, somewhat awkwardly.

Another day, another round of listening in on childish gossip to keep an eye on things.

"Supposedly Mr Ming Xu once ate a student for how late his homework was!"

"Did you hear? Miss Halvorson and the lunch lady got into a fist fight when she tried to steal animals in her classroom to put on the menu!"

"Am I the only one Mr Craftlove's class gives nightmares?"

Ok that one might actually be worth investigating...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After your last couple rounds with Madame Akari you decided to take it a bit easier and just do some simple meditation for training for a bit.

[X]Yes

[X] Hello there Akiko. Good day for a walk isn't it.
[X] The desire to protect others from evil is a very commendable trait.
- [X] Do you have any idea how the spirit ended up here?
- [X] You train as an exorcist, don't you? Do you like it?

After some digging you soon found that there did seem to be pattern with students in Spirits and planes beyond and nightmares in the student populous...

And so here you are, sitting in your office across from Craftlove.

"What did you wish to discuss?"

"We've had...reports. of certain psychological tolls on students seemingly connected to your class."

He nods.

"Yes an unfortunate side effect of my curriculum."

"And you didn't warn me of this preemptively because?"

"It seemed irrelevant at the time. Students with a certain natural sensitivenes to these things being affected within their dreams is far from abnormal."

"True, however this is just a bit more wide spread than that usually is."

"Hmm, very well. I shall slow down my curriculum just a bit to give them more time to internalize the subject matter and not be overwhelmed with these things. Though I remind you that we are approaching the semesters end."

As he said this, you couldn't help but feel as though he sounded a little too much like a patronizing parent...

"Nice day for a walk, wouldn't you say Miss Akari?"

You ask with a slight smirk.

"Yes ma'am, but...you can just call me Akiko..."

"Alright. So where are you going next?"

"I'm heading home to deposit this-"

She motions to the container for the spirit she's currently holding.

"In our storage room."

You nod and begin walking with her.

"So, any idea how that spirit wound up here?"

"From what I heard some less than lawful type of magic user summoned it. I don't know why. My mom already apprehended him and I was told to track down the spirit."

"Admirable. Your doing good keeping people safe like that. A desire to protect others is a admirable trait."

This actually made the girl blush as she looked away.

"Hehe, thanks but it's nothing really, this is just what my family does..."

"Yes I heard you train as an exorcist, don't you? Do you like it?"

Akiko looks up and the sky and seems to contemplate this.

"Hmm, I geuss. Like you said, helping people it good and I won't say I don't feel like a badass when I pull some of this stuff off but..."

"But what?"

"It's just...A bit much. One day I'm supposed to inherit the whole exorcist group and...growing up I've only ever gone to mundane schools so I always just assumed this kinda pressure was just well, normal for people 'in the know' but..."

"But you started attending Ignis Fatuus and saw mystic kids not acting all that differently from your old classmates?"

She just nods.

You put a hand on her shoulder.

"Listen Akiko, I know you and I don't know eachother that well outside me working with your grandmother and you attending my school but...if you ever want to just talk and get these types of things off your chest? My doors open."

"Thank you headmaster."
