Yokokami was a small urban mystic neighborhood in Tokyo, hidden in-between back alleys with the highest grade illustrations available, inhabited by various magic users and none humans who enjoy mundane conveniences but enjoy having an area where they can walk around as themselves.

You casually stroll down the street towards you own apartment here when-

"Eep!?"

Your suddenly tripped up and end up on the ground.

"Damnit you two! How many times have I said be careful where you play?"

Looking up your met with the sight of a pair of fox cubs who has apparently run under your feet and tripped you, being scolded by an older multi tailed Kitsune who proceeds to turn to you

"My apologies Young-San."

You shake your head and get up dusting yourself off.

"Hehe, it's fine miss Hajime. Kids will be kids."

You pet the two little ones and bid your neighbors goodbye as you make your way into your apartment.

It's nothing particularly nice or flashy, in fact if anything it's kinda cramped. Still, it's home.

And you were not alone in it

Oh they were certainly putting in an effort to remain hidden in the shadows of your apartment with magic. To a mundane or even a less talented mystic they'd probably be undetectable.

But to a once in a generation magician?

No dice.

How to handle this?
[ ] Dispell the illusion to reveal them and call them out on the spot
[ ]Act like you don't notice them and go about things as if normal while subtly observing and awaiting there move
[ ]Subtly entrap them in a far more advanced illusion of your own, though this will take a bit and has the possibility of them noticing and acting earlier

I mean, if we didn't devote our time to perfecting illusion magic every turn of the semester in order to be able to do it, then why would we?

You stretch and yawn with a relative casualness while slowly working through a none verbal illusion spell.

You can't help but smirk as you sense it setting in.

These past few months you've so rarely gotten to flex your capabilities.

It's one thing to walk around invisibly. This? Is to truly play with the mind

Your would be attacker moves through the apartment and stabs you straight in the back with a jewl encrusted dagger.

Or at least that's what he sees.

In reality? He hasn't taken a step.

"AAAAAHH!"

...and there are the horrified shreeks of 'his own worst nightmares ripped from his subconscious by the spell' stage of the illusion.

Music to your ears.

Once you have him restrained on his knees you at last drop the spell leaving a sobbing man in a black hood at your feet.

"Alright, who are you and why are you trying to kill me?"

"I-i-i sseeeeek th-the knoooowwerrr!"

He screeched while writhing on the floor.

You raise an eyebrow abd stepped on his back, pinning him down.

"And who is that?"

"H-h-heee born b-beyond!"

You raise an eyebrow "Craftlove?"

"kn-knowledge is ooouuurrrs! Not to be given!"

"Ours?"

He just continued to maniacally blubber on.

Interesting...

Obviously you'll need to ask Craftlove about this.

But first, what to do about your guest?

Where to keep intruder?
[ ]Keep him locked up in the school for now. No one will be present for the rest of the break so he won't be a danger to students.
[ ]Hand him over to the exorcists. This isn't exactly there specialty but your pretty sure you can trust them to keep him contained

A Volunteer!

Also I want us to have a proper dungeon. This is a good way to stress test it with low-ish stakes to see if we need/want to upgrade our dungeom game.

[x] fock it he's your prisoner now have him captured in your house and/or with your neighbors if you can trust them until the break is over and you can hand him to craftlove

Forgot to vote. Let's leave it to the professionals.

Yes, I know it doesn't help. However, I don't want to leave the killer at school or random people. It's time to use Madame Akari's connections.

You casually stroll through the the school grounds and had just finished locking your prisoner in a empty classroom and assigning some golems to Gaurd the door when your met with a face you were just about to go looking for,

Mr P.H Craftlove.

"Mr Craftlove! What are you doing in the school during break?"

"I came to speak to you. It has come to my attention that certain elements have made their moves and you would likely enjoy some answers."

Came his quick and curt response.

You reply with a crossed arms and a raised eyebrow

"Ok then, care to explain what you might know about babbling weirdos trying to kill me in my apartment?"

"That, is a rather long story, but do you remember what I told you when you interviewed me? About how the good Mr Lovecraft gained access to information that was beyond his comprehension that became his inspiration? Of the information's will of it's own and it choosing to take on human form to satiate it's own sense of curiosity the mundane writer unknowingly sparked."

"You've mentioned it, yes." You reply, nodding.

And it wasn't too hard to believe. Physical embodiments of and/or mortal forms for concepts of one stripe or another were far from unheard of, it was essentially what elementals were.

"I am to put it simply, arcane, dark and otherwise forbidden knowledge given 'human' form. I came into existence via implanting myself into a mortal woman's womb and growing the old fashioned way. When this body was a child of a decade old a member who belonged to the same group as the man who attacked you kidnapped me. They call themselves the 'guardians of knowledge' but they are no such thing, they're a cult who seem convinced only they are 'worthy' of the knowledge and lessons I can give. In short they're a bunch of self important madmen."

"And you didn't think to warn me of them why?"

He shrugged

"I assumed I killed almost all of them in the process of finally escaping and the months before our first meeting were spent removing what I thought was left of the group dispersed and in hiding."

"Well it seems you were wrong."

He nodded

"Yes and for that I apologize. But now we have the present problem to deal with. Finding a way to keep an eye out for and counteract them."

You nod and begin walking side by side with Craftlove

"Before you say anything, me simply leaving Ignis Fatuus would not solve anything or leave the students and our coworkers any safer. They're a group as stubborn as they are delusional. They'd likely convince themselves you simply did what they did and locked me up somewhere secret and secure. In that scenerio things would only get worse."

"That's...unfortunate. Any ideas of what too do?"

"I'll add what I can to the castles rudimentary defenses. See if we can get Madame Akari and Calamitos to assist in that regard. Other than that as it stands in a straight fight most of the 'guardians' as they call themselves are roughly even, if perhaps slightly above the academy's golems. Still the leaders who managed to pry the most information out of me during my imprisonment could likely hold there own with most of the professors in single combat. Though I am quite certain I ensured all of their deaths."

"Alright. That makes sense I suppose."

"And I take it I can leave the extracting of further information to you?"

You smirk and don't say a word.

The mind was an easier thing to bend the more experience one acquired. And though young by many mystic standards, you were by no means inexperienced.

Ok that's it for now but I PROMISE next update there will be choices!

Back to school
Unfortunately as it turned out, the guardian sent to claim your life was something of a disposable doop. Even after several hours of intensive interrogation and illusion based mental manipulation it seemed he truly had little of value to offer in terms of knowledge.

On the bright side the academy seemed to be more intensively protected than ever, the stone walls at various places had different sigils carved into them from Calamitos and Craftlove while Madame Akari put up various protective charms and seals.

This all eventually lead up to the first day of the second semester.

You sat down at the staff table for breakfast that morning with the others.

Olga seemed a bit groggy and was more poking at her food than anything else. Dr Black and Calamitos were actually making something resembling small talk, Madame Akari and Ming Xu were having a polite conversation and Star Beard and Joan were just stuffing their faces.

Craftlove caught your eyes and nods to you.

You stand over a operating table alongside Dr Black and Calamitos. If all goes according to plan the most recent test of the cure for the rotting curse may prove successful.

You carefully place a confused clucking chicken on the table and step back as Calamitos quickly casts the spell

corrumpite carnem malam

As soon as it hits and you see the hints of blackness begin to grow on the avian test subject you lunge forward and inject it with the latest interaction of the cure!

And...

It stops!

"Yes! It works now!"

Not quite

The resident Litch suddenly chimes in. You look to see the bird, while still very much alive and clucking. Now dragging along it's blackened and decayed foot.

"Hmm, so it seems we have a treatment to stop the curse from further spread when in effect but not something able to reverse the curses affects itself..."

Dr Black muttered, writing some notes on a pad. While you'd been in charge of the chicken itself and it's injection and Calamitos handled the spell itself, she had been standing back analyzing the affects with a keen analytical eye.

"Still, a wins a win."

Getting back into the racing team post break had been a mixed bag.

Tai and Kairi had obviously been practicing over break and thus took to being back in the school flight coarse like fish to water.

Lidia was clearly a bit rusty but she readjusted well enough and Lewis needed a bit more of a kick in the pants but he got back in order eventually.

And then there was Alexander...

He'd been fresh eyed a bushy tailed seeming enough first day back. But he quickly seemed to be slipping into old habits...

Berating teammates for minor things, trying to run the practice like a task master. Ultimately you had to pull him aside and politely remind him of the two of you's talk last semester.

He seemed to calm down enough after that but...

Well given that this behavior only returned after he came back from being home over the break.

Well for now it's just speculation and you probably shouldn't poke your nose into it.

For now, your getting your kids ready for there first inter-school meet!
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The rumors around campus seemed to mostly be the usual fair.

Who had a totally real girlfriend over break. Who came back from break later than the rest and for what mysterious reasons(Sick/skipped first day back you would know)

Overall pretty standard. That was until-

"I'm telling you! The headmaster had some guy locked up here over break!"

"Dude, I really doubt that. Where'd you even here that?"

"Antonio says he got it off the golems!"

"Wait those things can talk!?"

This catches your attention, as while the golems in fact, can't speak they can give out information.

Specifically they can essentially be hacked like a mundane computer and have what there simple magic approximations of brains have recorded.

Still, there supposed to have solid protection spells to prevent just that!

Seems you'll have to this Antonio...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
With a clear threat now more present you decided to go back to training with Madame Akari for combat casting.

And let it never be said she makes it easy

"Seinaru nagareboshi no yō ni!"

You dash desperately from impromptu cover to impromptu cover as a shower of shining energy bolts crashes down around you.

As you run you attempt to craft a slightly more complex illusion to throw her off.

"Gaibu kara moeru seinaru hikari!"

This was easier said than done you contemplate as your adrenalin races and your focus is split to avoid being flash fried.

Still, you've just about got-

"Taiyō ryū ga hōkō suru!"

-it as your whole body is consumed by a massive flaming serpent construct.

Ironically your less worried about the pain and more about the lecture on everything you did wrong when you wake up.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
First step on finding what you can of the GoK was a matter of sending out feelers to your supernatural freinds and neighbors if they might have heard anything and asking Madame Akari about it post her kicking your ass.

"Hm, I hate to say it but we seem to be coming up blank in my channels."

"Then we really are at an impasse, after all you know this area way better than me..."

"Well...there might be one way to get the information we need..."

The older woman states, though she looks anything but happy about it

"Oh really? How?"

"The Yakuza."

She practically spits out.

"They have a strangle hold on all less than savory mystic activities that happen locally. I don't like it, but they may just be your best bet"

[X] It's actually good that such a vulnerability has been discovered. However, that he didn't report it, and instead used it to gather gossip, is disturbing.

[X]No

Not a fan of working with criminals.

[X]Tell him we know he got into the golemsdid, but if he explains how he did it he'll get into less trouble. In fact, if he's actually that skilled we could probably use his help improving security.

[X]Yes

I don't want to work with criminals, but anything that could jeopardize the safety of the students is the highest priority.

Working with the Yakuza will do us more harm than good.
