This Mighty Scourge of War: A Reconstruction-Era Quest

C'mon now folks why have an amicable and managed breakup of the party now when, in 10 years time, we can have a brutal and bloody collapse of the US political system.

Brutal and bloody collapse of the US political system? say no more,im sold!

[X] Keep the National Union Party together.

Besides, the current US system is designed to kill any chance for an actual multi-party system in the crib, and two party systems more or less always end up devolving into unofficial one-party systems anyways.Might as well make things official and watch the fireworks go off in the process.

We need to be sure that Reconstruction is on an extremely firm footing before returning to multi-party politics. Trade and reform are absolutely big enough issues to monopolize the major parties and make them take their eye off the South.

The Confederacy is defeated to the point that we're actually gearing up for elections in the South. The first elections for many, many new Black voters. When the voters gather to vote and see that there is only one single option to vote for, what will their reaction be? "Phony elections." Do that, and the people will lose faith in democracy, and become apathetic to political and social control and injustices, - since what's the point rebelling or arguing, when the Party bosses will write down the "correct version" of what we "voted for" anyway? Until the Party eats itself, ofc.
Yes, it would have been better for the Reconstruction to not do elections at all right now. But since we are organizing them one way or another, we have to think long-term. Let's say we just do the one party state for one more term, until the Reconstruction is settled more or less. That's still a precedent, of continuing "a wartime solution" AFTER the wartime is over. If we show that it's fine and dandy to keep the uniparty even after the war's over, because "there are still crises to resolve", this could become a motivation / justification for future power-grabbers to keep a hold onto power, since we've shown such a fine example. And those causes may not be good! Imagine a President staying an extra term due to "post-COVID crisis reconstruction," or due to "terrible no-good migrants CARAVAN prevention regime," or an "anti-Satanic panic-lessening reassurance period"?

Keeeping the NUP is asking for the party to descend into corruption and a party we have no control over taking the presidency

We need a vanguard party to lead the nation until people are politically conscious enough for democracy to function.
And what do you know? The people are never going to be politically conscious enough, so the party will continue to need to oversee them and guide them. And any attempts to form other parties are obviously extremely misguided at the very best and really should be illegal.

Marxist-Leninists not expecting a vanguard party to lead to strongman dictatorship: "fool me 57 times, shame on you. Fool me 58 or more times, shame on me."

EDIT didn't actually mean to quote both of you but at least the accidental quote was relevant.
