For the record re: dice rolls being shown or not, more visibility on mechanics would help us know where Vilina is struggling/excelling mechanically, but might draw things out of the narrative a bit. I personally don't mind the current "Wight mentions it when something crazy or funny happens with the dice, but otherwise doesn't mention it" setting, but there are benefits and drawbacks to consider either way.

The spoiler bars are still big enough to break up the text in a weird way, but I like where your head is at. I'll do some brainstorming on it after caffeine kicks in.

I like how it is done in this quest, another game mechanic heavy superhero quest, where the rolls and game mechanic stuff is put in a spoiler at the very end of the update after the votes have been listed so you can look at the rolls if you want and ignore them if you don't.

Man, I'm dumb. I don't know what the hell I thought the spoiler bar looked like. It's just a little button baby. That's super unobtrusive. I'll do that.

Also I like the QM's avatar.

"Well, first things first... there's a small wrinkle to your ambush." You point to the man in question, "that's Lee Owlsley. He works for Oscorp. A recent hire, and Ghost Spider suspects he's part of whatever shady business Oscorp is up to that Harry has been retaliating against."

"Rrrrright. An' Cap an' Mr. Stark sorta explicitly said to give Oscorp a wide berth about a month ago... .... shit." That 'shit' would usually be a 'shoot' or a 'darn', maybe a 'heck' or 'damn' if he's really feeling vulgar. You make a mental note of that, but decide now is not the time to make a big deal out of it. "Well... we can wait 'til the deal goes through an' follow the other guy? Unless you also recognize him as one of Oscorp's criminal rehabilitation initiative?"

You shake your head. "No, I've never seen him before. If he's new to Oscorp, Gwen never pointed him out to me--" you stutter for a second, reflexively worrying you just shared Ghost Spider's identity with a stranger, but then you remember the big reveal already happened and swallow the now-purposeless guilt and adrenaline. "Besides that, it doesn't make sense for two employees to be exchanging goods all the way out here if they're in the game. This is either a private venture of Owlsley's or the other guy is an independent buyer."

Roll 5 + 8 = 13. Heroic success!

Spidey shrugs, which also looks weird upside-down. "So either way, this isn't tied to the incident last month. This is a whole new layer of slime Oscorp is swimmin' in. If we can expose it and use that as a way in to tear the rest of their high-rise of lies down, then that sounds good to me!"

"Except that they'll find any way possible to twist this against you! Or they'll just out your secret identity, which I gather is something you don't want."

Peter pauses for a moment, squinting his large, white eyes in an expression that best resembles a pained sigh. "Yeah. You're right... OK... so... wait 'til the deal goes through and confront the other guy. On the downside, we gotta let Owlsley get away, but... on the upside we get some MGH off the streets so it can't hurt innocent people." His eyes grow wide and you'd swear they're glazing over the way human eyes do when they're thinking very hard about something. He then turns, and looks directly at you. "Maybe you should stay back. Use your powers and gimme a hand, but don't pop your face out or nothin'. In case things go pear-shaped, the less you're involved, the better. Especially with Oscorp in the mix."

You're sure you can be of more use than that, but you reluctantly nod in agreement. Spider-man silently zips back up his webline and carefully makes his way to an advantageous position above the transaction using a combination of his webs and enhanced acrobatics. The usually 'thwip'-y sound of his web shooters jettisoning their payload is much more muffled when the klyntar does it; one of the many advantages of his alien costume. You close your eyes and strain your ears to hear their conversation over the sounds of the city, trying to filter out other passing conversations, vehicle noises, and music coming from various ringtones and stereos nearby.

Roll 10 + 2 = 12. Heroic success!

It's hard to get details, but Owlsley (you assume) sounds upset. The other guy, with a deeper, richer voice protests and you can clearly make out "c'mon, man! You know I'm good for it!" He continues to explain his position, but you can't quite get enough details on the words as a car blaring 'Money' by Cardi B pulls up to the nearby stoplight with its windows down. You open your eyes and see Spider-man shift his position to stay out of Owlsley's line of sight. You can see him straining against himself not to lunge in and attack as Owlsley gets in his car and starts the engine--when suddenly a large, metallic ball with similar glowing markings like the ones you saw on the tech from last night swings forward on a chain and BURIES itself into the hood of Owlsley's car! There's one less running engine among the nearby traffic, but just like last night there's barely any other sound, save for the clinking of the long, silver chain attached to the ball and gripped tightly in the stranger's hand. Spider-man glances your way and dives down into the situation.

What Do You Do?
[ ] Use Tilt the Scales to make Spidey's next attack on this turn Precise
- This assumes Spider-man is going to attack.
- This follows the Lucky Charm plan you and Spider-man agreed upon.
- You could theoretically use another Tilt the Scales this turn.
[ ] Use Tilt the Scales to make the stranger's next skill check on this turn Clumsy
- This assumes Spider-man is going to try to subdue him with his webs.
- This follows the Lucky Charm plan you and Spider-man agreed upon.
- You could theoretically use another Tilt the Scales this turn.
[ ] Use Tilt the Scales to extend the benefits of Just Lucky, I Guess to Spider-man

- You could theoretically use another Tilt the Scales this turn.

[ ] Use the Wheel of Fate to fire Scattershot at the stranger.
- You would need to move up to have a decent chance of hitting him.
- This would break the Lucky Charm plan you and Spider-man agreed upon.

[ ] Use the Wheel of Fate to fire a Stun Dart at the stranger.

[X] Use Tilt the Scales to make Spidey's next attack on this turn Precise.

Man Just Lucky is a great power. us extending it to him makes all the attacks that target Spiderman clumsy for the next 4 turns.
Then we make Spidey's next attack precise (because given his attitude today, I'm expecting fists first and thwips second). Add all that on top of Black Suit Spiderman's buffed abilities, and this is shaping up to go real well for Parker, for once.

He has Spider Sense on defense. And is one of the most agile heroes. He's fine. Help him hit.

This provokes the interesting question; what does Spider Sense do, mechanically? Making opponents' rolls clumsy is a likely scenario, but who's to say for sure? The only person we know who breaks the fourth wall thinks she's in a comic book.

His defensive odds are good but given how much damage that weapon will probably put on him if it hits, better safe than sorry. We only have to do this once, then it'll stick for a good while.

So, first off, I found this quest yesterday while trapped in the eternal purgatory of a hospital security shift and marathoned it, and it's beautiful.

Secondly, I agree that Spidey's got good defense already, but this is a persistent buff which means it's better to apply it first and get the benefit of it for the longest, as opposed to using it later in the fight and being more likely to waste its duration. Also, you can't un-dead people with luck, but you can prevent them from dying.

Just pointing this out real quick, but you guys can use one of the other Tilt the Scales abilities during this turn. If you're electing not to on purpose, that's fine. Just wanted to make sure that was clear.

I think he meant "instead of the ones specifically listed". Doesn't seem like we get more than one "action" right now.

No, I meant more than one on your turn. Turns break down into Direct, Indirect, and Passive Actions. Much like 3.5 D&D's Standard, Move, and Minor. Using Tilt the Scales is an Indirect Action, and you can use your Direct Action as an Indirect Action. So you can use two on one turn.

But yeah, that would cost literally twice the energy to do and you have no clue what else is coming. Respect.

I stand corrected.

But still, in the words of a former raid leader; mana conservation. Because how silly are we gonna feel if we blow two or three "spells" on a mookling with a fancy weapon?

You exert your power to help keep Spider-man from danger, shifting a bit in the alley to get a slightly better vantage point from which to observe the battle. You can't do anything about attacks you can't see, after all.

"I think you need to calm down, there, Thunderball," Spidey shoots his webs to gunk up the stranger's wrist and hand where he's holding the chain. "Throwin' your toys out of the buggy is no way to behave!"

"Shut up, Spider-man! This don't have nothin' to do with you!" he wrenches his wrist and immediately breaks free from the klyntar's black webbing! "An' how the hell do you know my name!?"

You see Spidey's eyes widen when the man just powers out of a trick that usually keeps someone bound for hours, but he plays it off into a quip. "... what, seriously? Your name is Thunderball? I literally pulled that outta my ass."

"Yeah, well, buzz off, webhead! Or that won't be the only thing they'll hafta pull outta your ass!" He yanks the chain back and the ball gracefully glides through the air, around his head, and CRASHES down into the roof of the car, TEARING the driver's side door off the hinges! You think you see the scarlet flash of blood as Owlsley scrambles to unbuckle his seatbelt and tries to force open the passenger-side door, but the impact seems to have bent the metal in a way that prevents it from opening. This... isn't looking so good.

OOC: Sorry for the shorter update. Combat's like that. This issue might end up pretty "long" and bloated because of all the fighting, come to think of it. Hopefully that suits you guys well over the Holidays. <3
