I, too, don't trust this sketchy mind reader. I'm hopeful our luck will see us through, though.

Yeah, I don't trust Kid Omega as far as our STR 1 can throw him. It is likely to be a little sketchy, because Quentin couldn't have made it look more that way if he was trying (which he possibly was), but we're supposed to trust our teammates, right?
Sounds great, let's extend a little trust.
...but verify.

I kind of assumed Write-in wasn't an option this turn. Still, if he is mind reading, he's gonna know we don't trust him. So admittedly not a lot we can do: Either fully trust him, hurt his feelings/put him on guard by being cautious, or we say no & he just gets someone without Luck powers to go instead.

Write-in is always an option, but I reserve the right to be more hands-on with Vilina's interpretations of your suggestions when I don't offer a write-in.

And some things just aren't going to happen or just won't work, but those are a little more obvious or out there.

I'm of the 'doesn't hurt to try' school of write ins, personally. Especially since this isn't a different course of action, as much as an addition to the one we're choosing. One that helps build character also.

Still, if he is mind reading, he's gonna know we don't trust him. So admittedly not a lot we can do:
Thats a feature, not a bug. Trust is a two way street, if he's peeking he's already broken our trust in the first place, better to get an idea of it now.

I think it would be good policy to always tell someone when we are going off-base. Let's assume that Kid Omega is completely trustworthy, what if we run into a different sort of trouble such as a supervillain or some other nasty business? If someone happened to us, we would want someone to know where we are. You don't just go off on walks without telling anyone where you are going.

Honestly, I would suggest the same if any of our teammates want to make an unplanned trip off-site. Kitty wants to visit her parents due feeling homesick? I would suggest telling someone where we are going so they know where we went should something go wrong.

At the moment, I'm mostly trusting Kid Omega because he has given us no reason not to trust him so far beyond being sketchy in the latest update. Is there a reason I shouldn't be that I am unaware of beyond his sketchiness in the last update?

Unless we have a very good reason not to, agreed. This is a good opportunity to set a precedent.

His general behaviour has been sort of unsettling in sort of a oily, overly friendly and 'helpful' yet still grating way. Also he's a telepath, in marvel those have a rather grand tradition of being very very untrustworthy people.

[X] No.
-[X] Go to the councillors and talk about how your telepathic teammate has been acting weird and suspicious, consistently "conveniently" doing the same thing at the same time as others even when they're doing it randomly and you have no way of knowing if he's telling the truth about not using his mind rape powers to mind rape you.

I would hope, given the vague reference to what might be Cerebro, that they've got telepaths on staff to check for this sort of shit but Quentin has historically gotten one over on Charles Fucking Xavier and has a "subtle" and "see through" mind.

I find him sleezey, but nothing out of the ordinary. Then again, I have had to put up with people like that in RL so while he is annoying like the people I knew in RL, I don't think him especially untrustworthy, like the people I knew in RL. I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if he threw us under the busy to make himself look good or refuse to help us when it isn't convenient for him and he can get away with it without looking bad. Yet at the same time, I don't see him meaning us any actual harm. At worst, I think he might be trying to recruit us for a shady gang that he is leader of.

his mind rape powers to mind rape you.

I think your prejudices are showing.

Asking to Read Motives
So this seems like an appropriate time to bring something up; just like Dungeons and Dragons has Sense Motive and Insight skill checks, you could use your Will (which you have a decent score in) to attempt to discern the motivations of a target. It would slow down the pace of the thread if called for because my update would merely consist of the result of that roll, but attempting this might give you some valuable insight that makes you more comfortable making a decision. Of course, I might roll horribly as I did with the Endurance check that saw Vilina gas out on the treadmill... but it's an option.

One way or another I'll be closing this vote in about three hours. I'm very pleased by the amount of discussion this has generated, but I'd like to keep the story's pace up.

Would it be possible to for us to ask after than update and then you make the role and make a brief post giving us the result? Sort of like the one you just made now?

@Wightraven for short pieces of information, what do you think of just doing it like an OOC question.
Example

"@Wightraven, what does Fortune think of Quentin's motivations IC"
Then you could respond with an answer to that specific question OOC, rather than slow down the story too much?

Edit: ninja'd

What's stopping you from assuming that players would want as much info as possible and rolling insight as background rolls constantly and include the resulting insight in the update in the way that would feet the narrative?

What's to say I haven't been? I can confirm I've rolled two so far. They went well.

Asking to roll the check might glean more than Vilina's passive insight on a subject, or might provide specific information to the players that they know, unequivocally is the result of attempting such a check. That can provide confidence or peace of mind, confirming that the attempt was made, even if its success is still in question.

That all being said, I'm willing to try out the on-demand insight checks, though my work schedule might complicate those as I can't always be at my phone at all times. Further, making such a check takes some time and consideration. If someone tries to lie to you, the check I roll then is your initial gut reaction to the lie. Any active attempt that follows requires a few moments of thought. So asking for such a thing to occur on-demand outside the regular updates might end up being impossible if we're within the split-second activity of a fight or emergency situation, or your delay may cause the NPC(s) to react before you can act on the results of your check.

Now, in this particular situation neither of those are issues; Kid Omega is patient and you don't have anywhere to be anytime soon. You take a few moments to piece together what you've discovered about him since you met, and while there's something about him that overall makes you uneasy, in this particular instance he seems to mean no harm. There's an almost puppy-dog like level of excitement to his posture, and there's a lot of earnestness to his inflection.

Oh, that's all right then. So you do them when Vilina would be suspicious or curious IC, but we have the option to ask for one specifically?
The obvious answer is to try and steer Fortune into being the kind of person who would be more prone to make one of those checks on her own.
