When The Day Breaks
"The day has broken, and now we ride until we reach the heart of the statist beast."
-these are some of the first opening words of the
launch of what would become the "Black March," .
For well over a month before the march, there had been "radio silence" among Klashist forces in the Ozarks. Simply put, one day there were near-constant operations by the anarchist horde or propaganda published by them, and then the next, there wasn't a single drip of information by way of the internet, but intelligence gathered from satellites noted a large build-up of equipment and manpower with a major growth of refugees numbers making their way in caravans towards both ANA and Federal lines.
Some small bits of information would be obtained from captured klashist terrorist cells in ANA and Federal held cities across the country, which had similar references to each other, and phases about both fictional and religious events and figures such as "Shiva rides at night" "When the Day Breaks" "The Pale Horseman rides" "The Sixth Seal" "The Walking Dead" and "Apocalypse." Due to the war, each faction obviously didn't share information with each other about any operation against or by Klash's army even though they both had a common enemy. Another reason why they didn't share information about the urban cultists was that both sides believed that the main offensive would target the other. They couldn't have been any more wrong even if they tried.
On May 25th, a massive day ombing on Wall Street would happen, killing upwards 50 people instantly, followed by a rash of sprees and mass shootings up and down the east coast and along the ANA held rust belt. A few hours after the attack in New York, the west coast had begun reporting rolling blackouts up and down the pacific states, which would immediately cause riots between pro-ANA and pro-Federal civilians, both of which would be targeted by Klashist cells.
Areas around the Ozarks would see their supply lines attacked or sabotaged by cultists over the next three days as terror attacks continued to rock cities. Then suddenly, as it all began, it stopped as a creepy calm spread over the country; from within the dark zone of the Ozarks, a radio broadcast, as well as an audio internet upload of Klash speaking, was released
"The sun has died, the day is broken, kill them all.".
What happened next were some of the darkest days of American history and the first mass use of chemicals during the war. All along with the weakest points of the front who had their lines sabotaged; soldiers behind static defenses would be assaulted by highly mobile rebels who were aided by the extreme use of both psychoactive and poisonous gas, including but not limited to chlorine and mustard gas. While the gas was only around 35% effective in terms of raw deaths, the psychological effects of both ANA and USA soldiers seeing their comrades either lose their minds or gag on their own lung fluid were enough to break them and by extension their lines, which Klash's army flooded and surged through encircling pockets of not just hundreds but thousands of soldiers. A survivor would describe the horde offensive as
"The worst things I have seen, not the worst thing Humanity has ever done because whatever those things had become weren't humans, they were far too cruel and wicked to have a soul anymore."
Many soldiers simply just ran away out of fear of the advancing horde, especially on the ANA. The US and the National Salvation Government Air Forces, already growing smaller and spread far too thin in the area, could do little to stop the march as what men didn't turncoat and run tried to mount a disparate defensive fight down to the last man against a sea of insane cultists. The world media watched in abject horror as one major city after the next fell to Klash. Jefferson City, Springfield, Salina, Columbia, Joplin, even Kansas, and Oklahoma City seemed to be within reach of Klash.
In the southwest, an Isolated arm of the horde managed to capture land as well, even threatening Santa Fe and Amarillo. Many counties and cities that had resisted Klash's army were raised, and their population sent down the highways as both refugees and to clog up any ANA or Federal response. In areas that found themselves captured saw mass purges by Klashists of almost any and everyone who worked within or with the government, not just with the military but any form of government. Fleeing troops would leave behind tens of if not hundreds of millions of dollars worth of equipment which was quickly reused again by the Klashists against their former owners.
Any nuclear sites or missiles controlled by the feds would be destroyed or disabled before Klash could take them. Still, the international community would be deeply concerned to put it lightly at the prospect of a seemingly nihilistic rebel group armed with atomic weapons, and the UN threatened an intervention in the Ozarks if a single nuclear weapon was seized or used to which President Harris responded by saying.
"Any uninvited intervention into our country would be seen as an invasion and resisted by any means necessary," a thinly veiled nuclear threat of her own. Klash would be very open about his distaste for nuclear weapons.
"There is no honor or point in atomizing our enemies from thousands of miles away; we will not salt our food with radiation."
Klash's army advance would continue as a mix of human waves, chemical, and psychological warfare would be used to shock and awe both the American National Army and the United States armed forces into retreating even when they had larger numbers, better equipment, and in some cases better positions. Klash was a master of psychological tactics; he knew he didn't have to break every soldier just enough so that the fear could spread on its own. A virus of rumors and myths could be more effective than actual biological warfare and in his own words.
"What fear is greater or more primal than being eaten, the fear of the monster in the dark searching for its prey. That is what I am, a monster in the dark, a predator." "
