The Years of Horror and Lead: The Second American Civil War

The Fall Of Pittsburgh
"The battle for the city of Pittsburgh was some of the heaviest large-scale urban fighting that happened during the war. The house-to-house fighting in the battle was so close Quarter that entire battled occurred in one room, it wasn't blocked by block or street by street, but rather inch by inch as what amounted to trench warfare took hold in much of the city.

Originally one of the first cities captured during the outbreak of the war by the ANA in 2028, the federal government had recaptured the city for itself during Operation Broken Sword. The Federal occupation of the city was never truly solidified however as they had been under near-constant attack by urban fighters that stayed behind in the city and in the nearby countryside, conducting a low-intensity conflict against the occupation.

The federal occupiers would begin to take out their pent up anger over the urban rebels on the population of the city of Pittsburgh as a whole. Over the course of the years since Operation Broken Sword, the crackdown against the city's civilian population grew harsher and harsher. Routine reasonless detainment of people for indefinite amount of time, the execution of anyone caught after an evening curfew, reported acts of sexual misconduct, and all-around brutality towards people caused the city to hate the occupation even more than they already did, and many flocked to join the ranks of the urban fighting units of the ANA to take revenge against their occupiers.

Needless to say, once the city was put under siege by ANA during Spikes invasion of the north, the fighters took this time to open up a major rebellion front within the city, making large parts of the city ungovernable due to how hard the fighting became, tanking advantage of this the ANA began their advance into the city, but the advance was slowed due to the fighting in the suburbs of the city, yet even at a snail paste the advance of the ANA still came towards tanking the city but at the cost of heavy casualties. By the time fighting had entered the outskirts of the Urban center, the death toll for both sides had reached a total of 150 thousand dead or critically injured.

"The burbs was hell, so much fighting in the infill between the open rural landscape into the hellscape that was urban warfare. Every house was an nexus of Yankee resistance, every strip mall a massive base for the enemy, every rooftop a sniper's nest.".
-ANA veteran interviewed 2045

Rockish realizing that holding the city at least conventionally was impossible changed his strategy, breaking up his troops into two forces, one that will fall back, destroying any and every piece of infrastructure that they could while the other half of the soldiers would be broken up into much smaller force mostly squad size units able to conduct asymmetrical military tactics against the gaps in their enemy lines and attack their supply and logistical chains. This order was not without its shares controversies among the Federal government in DC. The idea of official Federal soldiers acting as insurgents in their own country was disgusting to the establishment and once again they demanded Rockish's stars. Calls to remove Rockish went unanswered, however, as President Harris was far too desperate to remove the controversial General from his post.

Rockish plan, no matter, was successful in its goal of denying the full enemy control of that area, forcing them to take out troops from the major advance towards DC in order to police their newly captured territory. Yet, in the public imagination, this was the beginning of the end for the Federal government. In the southwest, the broken national alliance with the ADFM had caused them to begin occupying the southwest.

The NFAC was likely too to change sides if the tide had proven to have turned against the federal government in exchange for letting them keep power without a war. It's ally in the north Canada was now dealing with several well-armed and equipped insurgencies both in its countryside and in the urban streets making aid from them impossible. The EU was falling apart at the scene with proto rebellions in every country or in the case of eastern Ukrainian and the Baltic States being annexed by the URPG. America's old allies in Asia were too worried about or currently fighting with the Peoples' Republic of China to care about the USA.. The African Union and UN peacekeeping mission in America were strictly there to keep the peace, not make it, so any real aid from them was out of the question. The outlook of the Federal government was at its bleakest as the ANA marched inch by bloody inch towards DC.

"Today we have retaken Pittsburgh, praised be unto God for that! This however is the first of many so-called core Federal cities held by the capitalists; we shall take, God willing, we shall take them all as their walls tumbling down like that of old Jericho! Soon the flag of the true sons and daughters of America will hang above the White House and other federal idols in Washington DC. If it's the Lord's Will, then who can stand against us and not fall to their knees?

Rather if it's the lord's will that we win or lose, we fight for his name! Our praises are the sounds of bullets firing our hymns to our God, the sound of artillery shell impacting the enemy positions. Our battle cry is God's Will Be Done! DEUS VAULT! Onwards towards Washington Comrades! DEUS VAULT! GOD WILLS IT!"

The Battle Of Beverly Fairy Part One.
"Beverly Fairy Maryland is a name that rests aside, Kursk, Somme, the sacking of Rome^1 and Berlin^1, and the sacking of Baghdad^1 as one of the boldest and pivotal pre-Third Great War battles in human history. While dwarfed by some of the largest battles of the third and fourth world war that numbered in the low tens of millions or the case of the WW4 the dozens of millions at some point, when compared to the overall military casualties of the second civil war, it becomes apparent how large this battle truly was at the time. Twelve percent of all soldiers who died during the Second American Civil would meet their end at Beverly Fairy ^2. So many died people died during the battle; one ANA soldier would later say

"The dead were like mounds upon the earth; one could not see the ground of the muddy field. There simply was not enough blood-covered dirt to bury the dead."

There would be many aspects that led to the slaughter which occurred on that Maryland field. The geography, the battle tactics, logistics, command, fanaticism, the weather, the weapons system used, and thousands of other tiny factors that made the mass killing on a scale not seen since the darkest days of the eastern front of the Second World War possible.

On their own, each of those problems may have been not so bad, but by horrible chance, all of these things came together to create the storm of lead, gas, fire, and blood that was Beverly Fairy. Yet like many things in First America's Warring State Period, The Battle at Beverly Fairy was just a preview of the future of the larger wars of the 21st and 22nd centuries, and like the countless other aspects of the second civil war, it would be ignored by many of the great powers who would be a major participants of the future great wars, simply written the bloodshed off as a byproduct of what they dubbed "the internal insanity" ^3 of the Americans that produced the massive amount of carnage.

This most notably occurred during America's war with the COAN during the Third World War.The Chinese and their Allies simply were not mentally prepared to handle the amount of dead per battle after spending years only losing a few thousand or hundred soldiers over the course of decades in low-scale foreign interventions^4. The only country truly used to spending millions in a single battle in recent history by the time of the third Great War was America^5. After Beverly Fairy and the countless other bloody battles during the Second American Civil War, the United States population understood what a full-scale modern conventional war would look like in the mid to late 21st century. The Americans knew what it would take to win a modern war; they knew the price of blood would be high; they learned that lesson from the fields of Beverly Fairy.

The town of Beverly Fairy would be founded in late 2020, 15 years before the battle would begin. Ironically it was originally a refuge for people fleeing political violence; Beverly Fairy would be the first of many so-called peace holdouts. Towns where people from around the country would flee too during the '20s in order to escape the increasingly deadly fighting between pre-war paramilitary groups. Oftentimes towns like Beverly would be set up strictly apolitically in order to keep the peace, and they became places where their populations experimented with different forms of democracy^6.

As the political violence grew, so did the number and population of these towns. At its founding, the town of Beverly Fairy had a population of just under 250 people. By the time of the start of the Second American Civil War, its population was nearly 12 thousand people. This would not include the count of unofficial refugees that had found their way to the small town during the war, which have been estimated to be around another 12 thousand people living in and around the town.

While nominally in the control of the federal government, these safe haven towns like Beverly Fairy were mostly autonomous when it came to governing themselves. This wasn't because the federal government wanted these towns to have this level of autonomy far from it; they saw towns like Beverly Fairy as hot stops for behind-the-line ANA rebel insurgent activities^7.

The reason they were left alone was more so out of the federal government needing troops at the more pressing front against the rebels. However, as Jamar Spike's invasion of the north began to march into Maryland towards Washington DC, these towns, at least in the region, found themselves being pulled one way or another. Beverly Fairy would be one such town. The Federal government would originally just place a small military force in the town. The pre-battle ANA intelligence believed that the town would fall easily if not outright surrender to them due to how small the federal garrison was there.

This begs the question, "Why did the ANA want Beverly Fairy in the first place?"

The short is that they didn't at least not to the extent of the battle of the Beverly Fairy became to be. There was no grand plan that involved Beverly Fairy. In truth, the entire battle started out as an accident that quickly spiraled down a slippery slope which led to millions losing their lives in one of the largest battles in modern history."

Notes
1: These do not refer to the WW3 battles of Rome and Baghdad as the Burning of Rome alone easily outnumbered the military deaths of any battle of the Second American Civil War.

2: While it disputed just how many people died in the battle, 12% of military combat death is the most widely given number.

3: Internal insanity is a term coined by People Liberations Army strategists in reference to the Second American Civil War.

4: Outside of the semi-successful capture of Western Twain, the COAN never saw other large-scale conventional conflicts until the Third World War.

5: The African Federated Union, then African Union, did see some similar conflicts that numbered in the high hundred thousand; these were mostly insurgency. That being said, their population did not suffer the same Casualtie Fatigue that China and the European Hegemony did.

6: Peace Hold Outs oftentimes played around with more radical forms of Democratic Government, most notably democratic confederalism.

7:The Federal Government at the time believed that peace hold out due to their autonomy would breed pro-ANA stances."

The Battle Of Beverly Fairy Part Two
"The Geography of Beverly Fairy was one of the larger key factors that led to the bloodbath of a battle that took place in that small Maryland town.

"Back then, Beverly wasn't anything like we see today. Its population, even when you counted in refugees, numbered only at the largest, maybe 15 to 20 thousand. The town was a farm town, outside of the downtown and few housing developments; the vast majority of the land that it sat on was open fields of communalized farmland. That is what drove so many people to it in the '20s, especially as economic and political violence grew worse. Beverly was almost like a paradise, a call back to a simpler time. Of course, and the war grew only larger, and as Jamar's Army marched towards the Capital, that quickly changed."
-Kendrick Brown, Second Civil War Historian.

Situated between the towns of Fredrick and Gaithersburg, Maryland, it would be one of the last stops until entering the general DC area. However, to the ANA commander in the region, it wasn't as views as that much of a target; in fact, the battle will begin only as a small skirmish. Most ANA commanders believed that the true battle would happen for DC itself, not with the war being decided in that small town.

"Everyone talked about DC as the final battle, my wife Mia and I, as well as our friends, all believed that once we entered DC, that was the fighting would begin. Many of my dear friends always joked about it being our "final boss battle."
-President Malik Beauregard

As mentioned before, the layout of the town would contribute a fair amount to the bloodshed. The town itself would be only a small part of the battle with the main event, so to say happening in its farmland and countryside. The majority of the town would be flat farmland that was divided up into sections using water tranches for irrigation of crops. These trenches would eventually form the battle trench lines that would mark the build, and they would also lead to the flooding of them on many occasions. In the famous scene from the movie "The Battle Of Beverly," the trenches were seen to be had been completely filled with blood and mud, this has been largely written off by the general public as an urban legend, but it was no exaggeration.

"I some places I can see blood and muddy water running through trenches almost as high as my horses bridal it is truly an apocalypse of battle that had been laid down upon the nation. May God have mercy on us all."
-George Rockish.

Aside from the field and irrigation trenches, the edge of the town on the other side of the farm line towards DC was a rather large ridgeline of sloping hills that went up about 55 to 60 feet at the crest of the hillside facing the open Field was a rather large stream of mostly runoff water.

The ridge itself was about serval miles long and shaped similar to a half-circle with the bend pointing towards the farm line and the open section facing away from it. The top of the ridge was covered in dense foliage and woodline. Beyond the ridge after a few miles, the hills mostly tapper back off again until flat land giving the ANA a more or less open path towards DC.

"We are now upon the very edge of victory, mother. The Yankees are cutting the tail and running, everyone else pushing back as our forces behind the trench lines grow. God willing, with one final blow, we shall drive those federal hound dogs back across that damn ridge, and we shall follow quickly behind them into DC, where we shall conquer it for the Lord. Praise be unto Godmother. I will be with you soon."
-ANA veteran's letter to his mother.

One should take note of the language he used; as Jamar's soldier grew crosser and crosser to the Capital of the war-battered nation, the religious overtones of Jamar's army became so overt that it began to go beyond fanatical in their belief. The war, at least for Jamar's army, quickly became more than a war but a crusade against what they deemed as satanism. So much so that the other ANA leadership would begin to worry for his sanity and openly question the role of his second and command and rumored lover Alejandra Rodriguez. Rodriguez was far more extreme than Spikes.

Rodriguez had been a follower of Spikes before the war becoming one of the first Leftist Preacher during the red socialist revival of the mid-'20s. Just like another leftist preacher of the 2020's she had developed a paramilitary following among her flock called the Daughters of Asherah. What made her different was that it was made up exclusively of women who worshiped both the YHWH as well as Asherah and practiced a form of a new age Abrahamic mysticism. Many in the ANA regarded her as a witch or even a heretic; the secular forces of the ANA saw her as a successful but far too extreme Commander.

"So is insane, a rabid fanatic, but like a rabid dog held on by the ears, she would be far too deadly to let go of even if she is dangerous to hold on to."
-ANA co-president Justin Amash."

I dislike war
The Tower of Humanity hung large over the capital of the African Federated Union. It was the largest building humanity had ever constructed in its entire history. It was so large that massive climate control breakthroughs had to be created to keep it from having its own weather system within its walls. The tower was a palace, a throne for all of humanity, or at least that is what the official reason for its construction said. The real truth lay hidden in the stonework of the building itself. It wasn't a symbol to humanity but a statement of the African Federated Union's Power. It was completed in the decades following the Fourth Great World War that saw AFU become what most militarists dubbed a "Total Power." meaning it was able to project some type of military, political, economic, and social power throughout not just the earth and Luna but almost the entirety of the system.

After centuries of humiliation at the hand of what was once its colonial power and now little more than client states or under the control of the NUN, Africa morphed into something different after the horror of the Third World. The nation's foundations were reset and engraved with the words "never again.". They became very good at making sure that statement stayed true, after the removal of Rome and nuclear exchanges of WW3. The AFU government ensured that by any means it could survive and that was what the tower was all about; it was built for the same reason every brick in Rome was destroyed or removed to show that they would never be weak again.

"You know these tacos are very enjoyable," said X-5 as Alice and Robert walked through the food court of the tower.

"How many of those things have you eaten since we got here?" asked Alice, bewildered at sight.

"I believe somewhere in the mid-hundreds," said X-5 reaching into her bag for another one.

"That's slightly horrifying," said Robert.

"Where does it even go?" Alice asked herself.

"My waste disposal system is rather interesting actually you see when-"

"It was rhetorical X-5; it was rhetorical," said Robert.

"Very well, so how did you two enjoy the lecture? I found it pretty interesting." X-5 said.

"Well, I personally didn't agree with the horrors starting in the second year of the 21st century. America's wars of interventions did lead to its downfall into its first warlord period that help to cause the Horrors, but I don't think we should put an exact date to the start of the dark ages". said Robert.

"First, you don't count their first civil war as a warlord period?" asked X-5.

"As an American, I can say we don't go outside of maybe that weird little enclave called Jones or something; it was mostly just two sides going at it. The Second Civil War and Fourth World War and the New Afrikan Independence ciris are counted as warlordism just due to how many sides each had in them," said Alice. "I did enjoy their other point about the battle deaths warning of the second civil war."

"I still can't believe that world leaders made such miscalculations in thinking that single battles with deaths reaching into the millions were a thing of past or just a part of some type of internal madness of America. After Beverly Fairy, it was pretty obvious that the years of limited deaths was nearing its in." X-5 said eating another taco.

Robert paused for a moment "This might be radical to say, but please don't get mad at me for a second."

"Sure, kid," said Alice.

"I have disengaged my ability to feel anger," X-5 said as her smile grew larger.

"I think it was a good thing that world leaders didn't pay attention to Beverly Fairy; after all, the majority of our enemies in the 3rd world war were not prepared to take losses at such a high rate. The Chinese and the Hegemony were not ready to observe those amounts of casualties. The battle of Cairo alone nearly broke the European will to fight after they lost 10 million of their army.".

"I can understand your point, but you are acting like the Americans weren't hurt by those types of losses," said X-5.

"I'm not saying that, but the civil war did prepare you guys far more ready to cope with those types of losses than most other nations.".

"What about the African Union? Didn't they suffer heavy losses?" asked Alice

"That was different because we managed to cope with them because our war was that of survival. The Hegemony invasion wasn't colonial; it was genocidal. If we didn't defeat them, there would be no Africa or Africans." said Robert.

"I dislike war," said X-5, turning back on her negative emotions. "That must sound ironic coming from a machine that was created to kill.".

"Not at all most soldiers that have seen battle would agree with you, I think, most of my pops and grandpop friends hold that opinion at the very least," said Alice.

"Speaking of wars, how is Europe?" asked Robert.

X-5 stopped for a moment as her unit in Europe transferred its information to her unit in Africa.

"The neo dominist are being pushed back, my unit there is currently working with civilian aid, but from what we can understand, any threat of them spreading deeper towards Paris is now impossible as they are being pushed back on two fronts, and this latest round of open rebellion may come to a close within the next few months. However, the amount of land gained by the Prussian leftist militia may help fuel fire between the German states. However, I predict within an 87 percent chance of certainty that the NUN central government of the region will be able to keep things from blowing up as it did between the German states back in the '70s.

I feel like the German Civil War is going to be caused by the fact that German companies like Daimler, BMW, Blaupunkt, and Volkswagen are all losing markets in the United States.

I feel like the German Civil War is going to be caused by the fact that German companies like Daimler, BMW, Blaupunkt, and Volkswagen are all losing markets in the United States.
Germany as a united concept by the time of the last post doesn't even exist. All the company's you just mentioned had been dead for well over a hundred years lost in atomic fires of two global wars.

"When most people picture the standard American National Army soldier during the second civil war, they picture a standardized uniform; however, this is a myth. Many elements have been portrayed as romanticized images of the plucky rebels in their brown, greenish uniform led by commanders in dark gray and wide brim hats marching off to battle. Movies such as "Stranded In The Wind," "Goodbye Appalachia," "Away To Victory," "A Tear Rose Dixie My Love" and many more show heartstring plucking scenes of young soldiers in uniform leaving their small towns and farm while their lovers or family watch with tears in their eyes at the sight of the brave rebels marching to booming drum beats of war.

However, this was far from the truth; in fact, the vast majority of rebels did not wear the all too famous greenish-brown uniforms as seen in movies, sims, and tv shows. In fact, the amount of uniformity between different regional groups of the American National Army was often limited to just a few common patches and marking for easy identification between the National Salvation Government and Federal governments. In truth, the rebels wore, for the most part, anything they could get a hold on. In many cases, this included just civilian clothes or even hunting camouflage.

There are also many different styles or uniforms from pre-civil war militia that were pressed into service. In. In the decade or so leading up to the second civil war during the American troubles, militias started to become almost like brands with different styles and looks for each group. Almost every major militia had its own uniform. It wasn't uncommon for those groups to have different styles of uniforms for different occasions. An example of this would be the rapper and post-war Governor of the Wyoming turn bandit leader Kanye West "Regulators" who would later become "Kanye's Raiders." Their uniform differed between urban and western depending on where their leader went to, ultimately the style would later combine during their time in the mountains of Wyoming southeast that was documented in great detail by West in his book on the time title "The Mountain Years."

That being said, the most popular uniform among the leftist militias of the Appalachian and Rust Belt ANA, particularly during the march north, was the brown, greenish uniform or the "Daisy" uniform. This uniform consisted of a top tunic bottom cargo trousers, brown or black boots, and a matching baseball cap or military helmet. The daisy was designed with the attention of giving the ANA army during the invasion north a more clean and uniformed look to themselves. They were also designed to be massed produced using largely automated 3D printers. 3D printers had begun to become pretty widespread in most American households prior to the outbreak of the second civil war, and many of the printers were requisitioned by the National Salvation government from the civilian population in order to keep up with the demand on the seemingly forever war they had found themselves in against the Federal government.

Another design that has gained attention was the so-called "Crusader" series. Contrary to popular belief, however, there were no complete battles between hundreds of power armor troops in the fields of America, excluding Beverly Fairy; even then, these powered armored troops were supported by armies of regular troops. During the battle itself, there were only around 50 thousand powered armor and exosuits using troops, with the bulk of those ones using Exo suit not actually powered armor. Even then, the Crusader armor made up a tiny fraction of those numbers.

As the name gives off, the design and styling of the Crusader armor were inspired by the nights of Europes. This was done both for form in the way of using interlocking plates and joints as well as style. The large bulky and tank-like site of these power armor would be in all white with a red cross and sword overlaid over the ANA battle flag was known to strike fear in the heart of the Federal soldiers.

As mentioned before, a lot of rebel militias used their own style of uniform from before the start of the war during the decade of paramilitary battles that led up to the open civil war. The Federal government wasn't safe from differences in style as well; while being one of the factions with the wider use of standardization often time in independence pro federal militias, there were major differences in styles. Obviously, when talking about different federal uniforms among militias, the NFAC comes up often as one of the first mentions and thoughts. While yes, they maintained their own uniforms up and through their transition into the armed forces of the Republic of New Afrika. They were not the only pro federal group to have their own styles.

There were many cases of independent pro federal groups using different uniforms. Many of these pro-federal militias were part of the so-called "Hollywood army" where celebrities would, in an effort to gain more troops in the war against the rebel, become at least the nominal heads of their own militias, which lead to their own issues of miss management, lack of leadership, corruption, and all-around lack of combat effectiveness from these groups. That being said, many of their uniforms were some of the more unique of the war ranging from the costly and high tech to the retro vintage.

This leads us to the question who had the best uniform of the war, well that is where our series begins."

The War Of Brothers 2177
"Beverly Fairy was the deadliest battle in Pre WW3 American history, but a little-known fact about the battle was that it started completely by accident. While it is not conclusively known as of this time, while the battle grew out of control , what is known by historians is that for whatever reason, it did spiral out of control, it began shortly after ANA advanced into the town in the late to mid-autumn season. The town of Beverly Fairy wasn't, in the eyes of both Federal and the National Salvation Government Of The United States of America, all that important. However, while no one viewed Beverly Fairy as important, that doesn't mean people like General Rockish did not want a decisive battle to help bring an end to the war.

Yet even Rockish didn't believe at first, even after the battle had grown large, that the final blow by him or the rebels would be cast at Beverly Fairy instead; he believed rather it would happen at or near the DC metro area and stated serval time that.

"If we are gonna save this damn country from the rebs, it will more than likely be at Gaithersburg."

While writing about that topic in his memoirs, he would speak again on it.

"Yeah, I was a total fucking idiot, but to be fair, who the hell thought it was gonna be in the middle of nowhere at a town that wasn't even on most maps by then. That is why I should have seen it coming; I should have expected the unexpected."

Never the less, on October 1st, 2033, the first exchange of gunfire would take place on the outskirts of Beverly Fairy between a scouting party of the American National Army and a civilian defense patrol from the local Federal garrison at the small town. At first, it seemed to be a stalemate before the ANA party suddenly broke rank and retreated. The civilian defense commander of the patrol noted in a recorded phone call with the actual federal troop leadership that:

"We kicked some major ass man, and shit was hella easy. They ain't taking this town that easy, but they might try and reorganize sooner or later, although it will probably take those hillbilly Bubba Gumps fucks time to reorganize after getting their shit rocked.".

What the civilian defense force commander did not realize was he had just helped to lay a trap for the entire town. He had mistaken the probing attack as an actual assault to take the town. It is still unknown why he thought that the probing attack was an all out assault, as most assaults on towns saw the use of drones for air support and some type of armor or mobile heavy weapons. The reason is often given up to the fact that the civilian defense force often was pooled from people unfit for the draft and lacking any major training outside of somewhat knowing how to use their weapons, and even sometimes those areas of training were lacking.

Yet in stroke that could have changed history as, without it, the battle of Beverly Fairy may have never occurred without it, the federal commander would be put off by the report of a quick retreat and order the garrison to be prepared for an attack and put in order for immediate assistance if possible. As the day dragged into the afternoon and evening, more of the federal garrison began to take up defensive positions around key areas in and out of the town.

The Federal commander, whose name is lost to time, would be proven right as night fell the sound of the buzzing drones and cracking of machine guns could be heard as the town came under a frontal assault by ANA troops. Unknown to the rebel was the fact that troops had actually been preparing defensive positions the whole day, and when they opened fire, most of the frontal assault was repelled; however, in areas staffed by the civilian defense forces, many of the defensives were overrun after CDF broke rank and ran away after coming under assault by drones.

Realizing their mistake, the ANA began using artillery on the federal defenses before using drones to target behind federal lines forcing the defenders back deeper into the town itself. Now within the town, heavy urban fighting would take place between the ANA rebels and the Federal troops and what remained of the CDS. Yet the many parts of the town still held well into the morning. This forced more ANA assets to be brought into the area.

The first sign of the use of homemade armored vehicles would happen hours into the battle. Even still, the Federal troops refused to give up the town even as it burned around them, sending refugees fleeing into the countryside where many of them would be caught in the crossfire between the two warring factions, a rather fitting metaphor for the civilian population during the war as a whole.

In the morning, another attempt to take the town saw the federal government pushed out of it but holding major strategic positions in the county and rural area just outside of the city. The Federal forces had dug in deep, creating what would become some of the largest trench works of the entire war. The stalemate had a similar effect on the ANA as they too began to dig their own trenches.

"Even as the shovels met dirt and trenches began to form, many of the soldiers at the front still held on to the idea that the final push would soon be over and that within days and with minimum body counts, Beverly Fairy would be fully taken, and they would all be home by Christmas. I could still hear their echoes in my mind Manny, Johnson, and my Mia joking about bringing home Christmas gifts back to West Virginia, oh how wrong would both sides be."

It's weird just how dark everything is ITTL. From the 2ACW to bleak authoritarianism to a WW3 that ends with the world devastated in a nuclear hellfire.

For a little bit more explanation about the Martialist their ideal nation would look like a mix of the Cardassians Union and Klingon Empire for Star trek.

It's weird just how dark everything is ITTL. From the 2ACW to bleak authoritarianism to a WW3 that ends with the world devastated in a nuclear hellfire.
I think Dab's timeline is a little bit more positive as it didn't have 4 world wars and large parts of the earth being salted. There isn't a light at the end of the tunnel from some quite sometime.

X-5 was decorating his room in the shared apartment. The place had been paid for by the NUN and was constructed near the launch site of project Enterprise. The apartment block was little more than a single ultra-modern tower overlooking the massive construction yards of the Nkrumah dockyards. The dockyards were an enormous complex of interwoven factories, laboratories, schools, housing, training centers, and lunch sites that sprawled out for tens of miles. It was the largest of its kind on earth and would only be drafted by the newest yards on Luna.

X-5 could recognize the pattern of the dockyard as what it truly was a hive. A living breathing group organism meant to do one thing, and one thing alone go faster than anything before.

The machine turned its attention away from the window and continued fixing up her room hanging pictures of her family. She was pretty much done hanging up the last of the family pictures when Alice and Dicky walked into the woman

"Hey, Dick and I were about to " Alice stopped. "Um…X-5" X-5 wasn't "dressed," by which meant she didn't have skin on her body. It was little more than twisted metal gave humanoid form. Her body was built to mimic the body, made it all the creepier.

"Hello friend, what is up?"

"Um…y-y-your skin?" asked Dicky

"Oh yes, I put it into the washing machine to be clean. I apologize for being in the nude. If you wish, I can put clothes over my metal if you would like." She said, walking over to her dresser putting a pink bunny sweater and skirt over her metal frame.

"W-we were just wondering what you were doing; we haven't seen you in a while."

"Oh, don't worry, Alice, I was just hanging pictures of my family on the wall."

The two humans looked at each and then back at X-5 and then to the pictures and then back at X-5

"Family?" They both asked.

"Yes, the creators of my creators along with prototypes of my selves. Speaking of which, would you mind handing me the last one in that box," said X-5, its spike finger at a brown box near Alice.

Alice reached down into the box and brought out and dusted the old picture. She blew some of the dust off the photo and nearly dropped the frame as she realized who was in the picture. The photo showed three ANA soldiers standing over a hill looking over what had to be Beverly Fairy. The ground was soaked and muddy, and the man at the front had parts of his grey uniform covered in it. Beside him was a woman in a hijab and a man in a brownish-green uniform. The next two, all three of them, were a single dust white horse with brown spots on her. "That's president Malik Beauregard at Beverly fairy. Is this the original? It must be worth a fortune."

"I suppose it could be worth something in a museum, but I place the emotional value of the photograph far higher than its financial value."

"So you're like related to some American leader?" asked Dicky.

"Not any leader, one of the damn best ones in American history," said Alice.

November 1st, 2033 Beverly Fairy Maryland

Malik Beauregard overlooked the battle they soon would be joining from what was left of a destroyed building. The once lush Green Fields with fertile house farmland were now reduced to cut up and mud cover Battlefields of long snaking interconnecting trench lines.

"It looks like hell," said Manny

"It's just the warm-up; DC is gonna be way worse real Berlin stuff," Mia said.

"That if they don't turn it into Hiroshima."

Manny looked back at the two. "Do you really think they would do something like that?"

"I'm not sure, but when it's down to the wire, we may see how evil the federal rats can be." Malik spitted out.

"Bless are the martyrs, for their pathway will be paved in gold." said another woman riding on horseback. She wore the grey officer uniform, but instead of the usual cap, her head was rap in a near translucent tannish brown veil. It took the gang a moment to realize who the woman was and when they did, they all snapped to attention at her.

"General Rodriguez! Ma'am," said All three of them conducting the ANA salute.

The General smiled at this. "You don't have to suit me; I am no more or less a soldier than any of you.".

"Thank you, ma'am, but if I may ask, what are you doing here?" asked Mia.

"The same as you, I guess looking over the battle." The general said.

"It doesn't look pretty," said Manny.

"War is rarely is I think Yah makes it that way so that we do not grow to fund of it."."

X-5 skin had finally dried, and she had put it back on before handing it out to the bar with her friends Dicky and Alice.

"Hit me, G man," said Dicky ordering to the bartender.

"Sorry old sport," said the man; his accent was American, very old school like something from a period film about the 20th century. "I'm gonna have to see some ID."

Dicky let out a sigh "fine," he said, sliding the ID across the table.

The older man checked the id before handing it back to him and making them a drink.

"Hey, you didn't check her ID, and she looks 12," said Dicky pointing towards X-5, still dressed in her bright fluffy pink bunny sweater.

"Please, I have known X-5 for years, kid." He said, pouring them all drinks.

"I normally get carded at these places," said Alice.

"Old sport. I can still recognize an American when I hear." said the bartender.

"So, where are you from, I mean in America?" asked Dicky.

"Georgia originally well before it went and changed its name after the war. I left shortly before the New Afrikan Crisis happened and became a refugee after the fourth world war."

Alice and Dicky looked at each other as the calculations on how old this man had to be bounced between them.

"I'm around 200…I think. I stop keeping track of the years after my 160th. So minimum 160th maximum 200 probably somewhere in between."

"You ever think about going back?" asked Alice.

"Plenty of time, but it's not really my home anymore. I doubt I would hardly recognize it. If I'm being honest, I haven't recognized home since 2020.

"Now those were the day, I think, or maybe that's just the sim brain talking."

"Sim brain? Wait, are you a-" Dicky was cut off by the bartender.

"Post, yeah, I invested some of my Reparations money post war and got super lucky. Modifying yourself back then cost a lot of money and wasn't regulated like it is now. As it turned out, I ended modifying myself out of what is considered human." The man said, his greying hair turning back to life's as the winkle on his face dissipated away. "Well, look at that; it's time to clock out." He said, walking out of the bar before pausing and saying, "Hey Alice, from one North American to the other, I'm proud of you old sport."

Celebrity militias. Hmmm, why do I feel like Joe Rogan, Tucker Carlson, Rachel Maddow, and possibly someone like Ari Melber were part of this program?

Although this story is well-written and interesting, I can't really say it shocks or disturbs me. Much of what has happened over the last two years has chipped away at the sense of shock I'd feel at this outcome. We're already marching off a cliff.

EDIT: There are some moments (like Cuomo instituting a draft and a perfect crisis of leadership over and over) that seem a bit contrived, but after the last 2 years I'm hesitant to call anything ASB unless it's got the literal bats in it.

I like to think that this is the worse case scenario, but honestly it still kinda unnerving with everything going on IRL.

Army Of Cadornas
As Fall turned into winter, the battle at Beverly Fairy Only grew excessively larger and larger as more manpower was drained into the horn locking between the Federal and American National Army bucks. Trench lines grew longer, wider, and deeper across the Beverly Fairy town and county area as thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands until eventually, by January 2034, the men on both sides would number in the millions.

By this time in the war, both the National Salvation Government and the Federal government had dwindled their air forces down peer on peer advantage. Both sides struggled to maintain the funding and mechanics to build modern air crafts. Which forced them to rely more and more on older, less effective, but cheaper to keep; it is often said that America entered its second civil war as a hyperpower of the mid 21 century to live it as a country stuck in World War One. Jets turned into prop craft, and tanks into horses as barb wire lumbered overtop or trench cut into the earth like jagged cracks which men bled out of into the fire of machine gun nest by both sides, their bodies becoming one with the muddy soil of the ground.

A veteran of the first and the mid-fourth world wars could understand these conditions far too well. The mash-up of modern and ancient equipment would be something that would be followed in the fourth world war and the post-human crisis of the 22nd century; however, the use of hand the hand weapons such as swords were mostly limited outside of Jamar-Rockish Charge at the final crescendo of the battle.

Yet even as more and more men and women poured themselves into the quickly expanding trench lines, both military leadership largely thought Beverly Fairy not to be the place of the deciding blow of the Second American Civil War. Instead, both sides thought of the brave, heroic defense of DC or the apocalyptic sacking of Babylon.

Another factor that leaned into the battle becoming the blood bath it came out to be was the fact foreign fighters that had swelled the ranks of both sides who were hungry for manpower that they turned a blind eye to much of the growing extremism in their positions began to spread radical ideology among the American fighters.

This mashed well with homegrown extremists beliefs and some cases, created their hybrid ideology, such as Covenant Dominionism, which expressed the idea that all so-called "people of the word" should unite into one single fundamentalist Abrahamics nation. Covenant Dominionism would inspire post-war terrorism, which lasted until the third world war. Ultimately Covenant Dominionism and another Pan Religious extremist thought would be surpassed by the idea of extreme Civic Martialism that gave way to the rise of mad warlords such as Washington Lincoln and Vladimir Singh, who would come to power in the post-human crisis and only be defeated after the apocalyptic fourth world war.

Speaking of the Civic Martialism among the Black Federal troops, many began to read and subscribe to the Civic Martialist ideological funding Mother the Major Ashly of the Black Army in the US southeast. Many urban African American recruits and draftees had more sympathy towards the pro-Federal Black fighters in the United States southeastern region than the federal government. This had to do with their treatment as little more than token showpieces or canon targets for General Hogan. Another reason was that for a large part of the Black population of America during the war on, both saw everything else outside of the battle to stop the attempted genocide in the US south by neo-Confederate forces as a "white man war.".

One of the teachings of early Civic Martialism was that death in battle for the protection of one nation or people was not considered killing oneself even if that was the attention. The concept was known as of "Martyrdom For The Nation" which meant even if even a person knows the chances of him dying in a tactic is near 100 percent if they believed it would be successful to the grater goal their death would not be deemed suicide. This would mixed with the Christian belief that killing oneself was a pathway to damnation this would to soldiers who was depressed due to the absolute hellish conditions of the war charging almost completely hopelessly across no-man land to end their suffering. This also led to a few cases where ANA lines would collapse after a mass suicide attempt turned into an actual victory that was often quickly traded back as the ANA would retake the position from a previous trench due to both the ANA and Federal government using the same defense in depth trench strategy.

That being said, ignoring the extremism problem was almost the opposite on the other side—the idea of demoralized hopelessness in the face of renewed trench warfare. Soldiers would spend weeks on end bunkered down in deep trench lines as massive artillery bombardment hammered over their heads. It would only get somehow even worse when both sides in need of a victory began to use chemical weapons to try and win the battle. By now, both the federal government and rebel sides have become experts on modern chemical warfare and their defense due to their joint war against Klash and his horde. This meant that these weapons had an almost 90 to 95 percent kill ratio against the directly unexposed victim. It also told that the new gas and nerve agent derived from Klash gases began to be put into use, including his use of psychoactive gases , which only added to the horror.

In the case of the federal side soldiers, there would be threats of mass defections or just soldiers flat out killing themselves or their officers to try and escape the battlefield. This forced officers to begin to find unique and stricter ways to keep their soldiers in line. Many brought back an old tradition from Rome, decimation.

Alice being "related to one of the greatest leaders in American history". Yeah, I feel like Alice is some descendant of a Roosevelt, although that would be two of the greatest leaders in American history. Also, Alice was the name of TR's first wife.

This is a map of the state governorships of the US circa 2027. One of the largest reasons for the war lasting as long as it did was the support from many aspects of state and local governments. Although while a state might have had a certain rebel party it didn't mean all in that state supported the party or the cause with many counties refusing to work with rebels and offering aid to federal troops which would lead to patchwork maps of rebel support in the year of Kamala's folly.

Purple donates states with NALP governorships, while Orange shows states with AFP leaderships, red and blue represent the governorships of the Democratic and Republican states.

"The casualties of attrition had often been underplayed when it came to the bloodiest battle of the second civil war, in favor of looking at the deaths from the Jamar-Rockish charge at Holly Hill. This can be excused after all the sight of well over a million men and women on each side charging towards each other in one massive death battle is a lot cooler to learn about than logistics. The same things happened with the Battle of The Danube between the militaries of the Holy Russian Empire, UN European Mandate, The Martial state of Eurasia, the 10th Positions, and Neo Babylonians which turned into one of the largest battle of the Post Human Ciris and the 4th Great War. Many forget that oftentimes weapons are not the only things that create fields of corpses. Indeed by early winter going into December already thousands of were dying of plague and other diseases of war such as corona, consumption, scurvy, trench disease, wound infections, gangrene, gas-related illnesses and combined with the statics of the front to mean that by early to mid-December men and women on both sides died in massive numbers but most notably the American National Army due to their rationing of medicine suffered more casualties to diseases per week than to the actual fighting until January.

This only grew as the winter dragged on, and more and more soldiers were drawn from elsewhere in the Appalachian front of the civil war , leaving some areas, particularly in the south, dangerously low and understaffed. This brought increasing worry to the provisional civilian National Salvation Government of the ANA as many feared that this left them with a "Very hardhead, but equally soft ass," as one NASG provisional senator from ANA occupied Kentucky put it. The now Co-President Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, however, had become increasingly convinced that "The sooner we can take DC the quicker this motherfucking cruel and firely scourge of a war can finally end.". Saying in a private speech, "Even if it cost a million men to take Beverly Fairy, it would be better than letting another five million die in the next five years." in a secret "Christmas day" speech she gave in Richmond about the ongoing battle.

The battle grew increasingly important as the western front grew into a defensive stalemate between the western faction of the American National Army and the Federal government. The apocalyptic war with Klash had left the west ANA especially weakened, combined with them dealing with a racist right-wing insurgency leftover from the Cracking that was quickly becoming a problem. The western ANA had to a lot of the time rotate soldiers from the state if trench lines in southern Wyoming and southeastern Nebraska, where movement rarely changed outside of a few hundred yards at best with the loss of tens of thousands of men and women over a few inches of blood ridden soil in nameless charge and counter-charges. Only to be transferred to less intense but more spread out counter-insurgency operations where the enemy was unseen and far more erratic in their attacks and having to pick out insurgents from regular civilians.

There was good news, however, from the Alaska front as a surprising winter break through happened on Christmas Eve when plague outbreak weakened federal lines enough for a breakthrough. The ANA quickly pushed through and filled the gap that the plague-ridden federal bodies left behind. It was a complete rout as government troops promptly fell back to Anchorage, which would come under a short siege which lasted for less than a week. After years of static freezing trench warfare, the federal government in Alaska was defeated, leaving only a few coastal holdouts and a "temporary provisional pro federal government" in Kodak. In the dead of Winter at the coldest front in the war, the American National Army had finally tasted the flames of victory yet again. The fire restarted as the ANA began to openly link up with the Canadian rebels and help to armed them in their war against the Canadian Federal Government.

"It seemed now once again the air of victory was upon us. "Praise be unto God, Allah, Yahweh, Ashera! For our faiths has given us Alaska and Western Canada, and soon we shall be in Washington DC," my soldiers shouted, praising their different faiths but united in service in what we all saw as righteousness at the time. Even as the plague struck us, we remember the 91st plasm. Then, of course, one group of us would shout our slogan "If God Is With!" then another group us "Who Can Be Against Us!" Then all together, we would shout "Deus Vault or Allah Akbar or Praise To Asherah." It was the worst of times and the best of times. That was my youth, my war.``
