The Years of Horror and Lead: The Second American Civil War

What Have We Gotten Ourselves Into?
The thanksgiving day dinner had been a sparing one as Scarlet to contend with about 18-20 extra mouths to feed, but Johnson had been a help getting the food by hunting game and helping her cook it. They have already begun to openly date each other. While she would never let him know it, she was head over heels for him. Maybe it was because it was something out of those old fantasy romance novels she used to read when she was younger. A dashing and handsome soldier coming into a young girl's life in a time of need. The only thing missing was the love triangle, but Scarlet reckoned that she only really has room in her heart for one man no matter how many shirtless bad boys come her way.

That dinner was a stranger; about 15 of the soldiers were permanently stationed around the house as a base of operations. While there was enough food for everyone to get there on the place, there was hardly enough for seconds. Desert was completely out of the question; most of these folks haven't had anything remotely like the surgery delights they had before the war. A coke was considered high class as fine wine now; in fact, the price of alcohol had gone down since the start of the war, with everyone and their brother opening their own backyard moonshine spots. After dinner was over, the soldiers folded up the tables and chairs to have an evening dance.
….

The sounds of bullets whizzing over their heads as Malik and Mia laid down heavy fire from their positions, covering the rest of their units advanced down the ridge towards the yanks. The damn Yankees had begun to try and push into the border region near the Virginia and West Virginia border after their victory in Pennsylvania. Luckily for them, "Appalachiastan" geography didn't lean well to their human waves tactics. Since the main highways of the region were mined to high heaven and back to hell, they were forced to take the backroads where ambushes were the order of the day.

One of the scouts spotted the Yankee armor moving into the area the night before, and that morning they sprung the trap for their uninvited guests. Two ATGM's took out the front and back tanks that guarded to softer, lightly armored vehicles trapping them as he and Mia, along with five others, rained down hellfire from the ridge while the rest of the ANA soldiers advance slowly down the ridge focusing fire on the commanding Yankee officers first and then the rest of the Fed boys. Suddenly there was a sound of a drone flying by above their heads, and for a second, it was all white; then Malik saw that Yankees had stopped firing because they had been completely wiped out by the strike.

"Allahu Akbar! The drone was ours!" said Mia as the rest of the rebels stop firing. A few more of them shouted or cheered, mostly "God is Great or Allahu Akbar '' depending rather or not they were Christian or Muslims. The militia was a mixed religion; one made up of mostly foreign fighters from Europe or the Middle East. Many of the soldiers in it were religious people who heard the call of Jamar Spikes for unity among all Abrahamic religions. As Mia and Malik advance down the ridge to join the rest of the militia, the two of them could hear something else over the cheering of the moanings and cries coming from the Yankee soldiers.

"Momma-Momma, I want my mommy," cried one girl who couldn't be older than 17 at the most; the lower half of her body was completely gone leaving only her spasming intestines below her burned torso. Malik gag at the sight of this and threw up, but a moment after he did so, he realized he had thrown upon another soldier his legs blown off trying to crawl away shouting, "Oh GOD MY LEG! NOT MY LEGS! MY FUCKING LEGS! I CAN'T FEEL MY LEG-" he was stopped by a bullet to the head from Malik commanding officer before he moved on to do the same to the girl.

"These Yankee cockroaches don't seem to die easily, but a bullet to the temple usually take care of them most of the time," joked their commander as he handed them some IED's "Now help me booby trap the bodies, so when the other yanks come looking for their friends they find a nice little surprise.".

Malik and Mia looked at each other; what in the name of God had they gotten themselves.

Scarlet was dancing slowly with Johnson, trying not to step on his feet, she wasn't all that good with ballroom dancing, but her mother and grandmother taught her enough not to look like a complete fool.

"So Miss. Beauregard, I was thinking," said Johnson trying his best to imitate a high-class southern accent of the previous rebellion of the first civil war that was all so often played on the TVs and moved screens before the war

"I never knew you to do such a thing, Mr. Johnson." joked Scarlet.

"Very funny, well I thought if we both survive this war in one piece, we could stay together and maybe fix up that old house down the road and start a farm.

"Mr.Johnson are you asking me to marry you?" asked Scarlet.

"Only if you say yes," said Johnson.

"Then it's a yes." She said, looking into his eyes, thinking to herself

What have I just gotten myself into?

I Wanna Be In The Cavalry
Scarlet found herself holding back tears; up until a few days ago, she didn't know she actually loved her brother so much. Yet when she got the news that they had called him up to the fight with Jamar Spikes, she had been on the verge of breaking down in tears ever since. She held Nia by her side on the front porch as Malik talked to Johnson and Mia.

"You good man, with shipping out, I mean," asked Jonshon.

"They are gonna have us up with Jamar Spikes, which means we are gonna see some serious action, gonna be one hell of adventure shame you didn't get called up with Malik and me," Mia said.

"Well, somebody gotta stay home and guard the home front." joked Johnson, although there was a noticeable sadness in his voice as his two friends were going off without him.

"Whatever makes you sleep better, I tell you what when I and Mia come back with our own militia at our command we will give you a place in it to make up for time missed." joked Malik.

"I'm gonna hold you to it, so you better come back here alive, or else I'm gonna kick your ass," said Johnson as Malik walked over to Scarlet.

There he stood tall in front of his sister, his long dreads coming down about to his shoulders. His face cut and clean which matched his freshly pressed surplus army uniform. On his right arm instead of the flag of the Old Union, it showed one of the main flags of the ANA. His boots were spit-shined and cleaned, and his rifle was slung over his back.

"So this is it," said Scarlet, about to cry before Malik hugged her. "Don't go all soft on me now, Lil sis; Imma do just fine out there."

"How long are you gonna be gone?" asked Nia.

Malik bent down to her height and said, "Not for too long, maybe a few months or another year until those blasted Federal Karens learned they had been licked.".

Malik looked at his watch. It was almost time to ride out to join his unit and head to the front. He hugged his sisters tight now he was the one holding back tears. "I love you two; I love you, two girls, with all my heart, I love you so much." was all he could get out without crying in public.

"Come back safe, you hear, don't try to be a hero, just come back home to us safe, we love you too," said Scarlet as they broke off the hug.

As Malik walked down the steps leading to his house, he stopped and told Johnson one last thing, "Take care of my sisters for me." before hugging him and riding off on his horse with Mia.

As he did, a song came on from the local radio station; ironically it was one of Malik's favorites.
"Well I wanna be in the cavalry if they send me off to war I wanna good steed under me like my forefathers before, I wanna good mount when the bugle sounds, and I hear the cannons' roar, Well I wanna be in the cavalry if they send me off to war".

National Unity
"As the second American civil war dragged on, the soldiers at the front were not the only thing dying in droves, but political support for the current Federal administration as well. Since the start of the conflict in 2028, the best the Federal government could give its supporters were pyrrhic victories like those of the Jefferson and Pittsburgh campaigns, where the government would win due to the use of near-human wave tactics burning through draftees lives like spent shell casing from machine guns. In the south, frustrated with having to deal with the NFAC and the Republican Party, moderate pro-government whites and right-wing militias would begin to question their loyalties as well.

This would funnel up support for opposition movements. At first, the support of opposition parties would be spread out among smaller parties that posed no credible threat to the current regime. Things would begin to change, however, when the founding of the National Unity Party by key representatives and senators within congress. The official formation of the party would be activated by at the time Senator Owens who had become independent a year prior due to conflicts within the Republican Party over the war. "The First Congress For National Unity" would be held in Providence, Rhode Island, with members from the Libertarian party, breakaway Democrats, and Republicans would sign on to "The Decoration Of The Formation of the National Unity Party For Peace." Now holding a small but still powerful chunk in the House and Senate as well as holding some power in the Republican militia movement, both the DNC and GOP would begin to see the NUPFP as an increasing threat to the war as well as their power.

Party meetings starting in May of 2030 would be cracked down upon by both police under the guise of trivial local laws or by gangs of pro-democratic or republican supporters. The houses of prominent members would be raided by security forces or the FBI under alleged ties to "rebels supporters," which would lead to the death of several members. Yet, their popularity among the growing anti-war movement still grew larger.

In the southeast, the NFAC would limit the amount of NUPFP activity that could actually take place in the areas they controlled. The party took a harsh stance against the militia, with Owens calling them "Just as worse if not as worse as the ANA or Klash" in September of 2030. The response from the militia was to bar them from entering NFAC controlled areas.

On the west coast and in New England, the group would see rising amounts of successes when it came to local elections, even in areas with high ANA urban support. The ANA wouldn't officially express interest in the party or any peace negotiations, still believing they could win militarily against the Feds. Unofficially there was some support for the NUPFP, mainly from the right-wing sections of the ANA and NSG. Amash himself would remark in the November of 2030, "That it may become necessary for negotiation, and if it does, I would rather be dealing with the NUPFP instead of the GOP or DNC."

The left side of the ANA wouldn't be as supportive of the NUPFP, seeing them as a threat to the war effort.
"Owens and her party are basically just diet Kamala at this point."
-AOC October 5, 2030. Jamar Spikes, on the other hand, would be actually more open to the idea of peace, albeit less so than Amash.

"War is hell, and peace is salvation; I wish for peace every night on my bed when I talk to the lord."
-Jamar Spikes.

In the whiter areas of the American South where the NFAC increasingly hostile rhetoric and attacks such as the crackdown on the Atlanta rebellion, the population would begin to debate rather or not to keep sidings with the Republicans who in their eyes were not taking a hardline with the NFAC. They would still hold suspicion and animosity towards Owens due to her race.

"If she weren't Black, I would vote for Owens for President."

Klash Of The Mountains
"Just tell us what happened," ask the interviewer to Boyka. The event that she was being asked about had been a blur in her mind until recently; those days alone in the woods were just flashes of memories and horror. The other UN peacekeepers had found her hiding in a cave, refusing to leave for several hours until they had no choice but to pull her out. The man who asked her these questions now wasn't Ukrainian, but Japanese still; the man was almost completely fluent in her mother tongue.

"We were guarding the village; there weren't many of us left in the area. Many of the peacekeepers had been picked off one by one...by them. The others had run away after he had given us a choice." She said.

"The choice?" asked the interviewer.

"To join him or die. It was written in blood near the village's edge."

The Japanese man raised an eyebrow. "How many peacekeepers were left?"

"Half of our forces that were left went out into the woods and never came back. After that, there were only ten of us. We heard things the following nights."

"What kind of things?"

"Chanting in words that we did not understand and the singing of songs where there were no words. We could smell smoke from a distance and hear the crackling of fire, yet we didn't see any smoke or feel the heat of nearby fires. The locals, after the second night, wouldn't leave the house after the start of the afternoon. They begged us just to raise the white flag and ask for mercy, but by then, I was too scared to do that."

"Why were you scared, Boyka?" he asked.

"I heard rumors about what his soldiers do to capture UN women and how they have eaten people. I didn't want to end up like that; I was scared that I would be taken by them as a slave or, worse, eaten alive. Then on the eve of the tenth night, they blew a horn at dusk to which the locals started to cry into the woods about how the peacekeepers wouldn't let them surrender to him, that they didn't want to fight, to not hurt them but to take us instead." The woman's eyes got puffy and red as she continued, "There was one woman holding her baby screaming, "please don't eat my baby, it isn't my fault we wanted to give up, please don't eat my baby.". Nothing happened until the sun had gone down fully; suddenly, a weird smell came over the village as strange smoke flooded the area. Then they came on horseback...they were not of flesh and blood. We tried to hold them off, but there were too many of them...I-I" she started to cry.

"It's ok, Boyka; just tell me what happened next." He said, offering her a tissue.

"I ran, I ran so fast I didn't even know where I was going. I just ran in the woods...that is when I saw the bodies. They have been impaled on stakes, a forest of the dead and dying. Some were still crying out for help or to their mothers. I couldn't help them, so I ran faster; I must have tripped on something because I fell down and when I looked up I saw it standing there. A human heart in its hand with a bite mark in it. Its face was covered by the darkness, but I could see the red blood trickling down from its mouth of diamonds and sharpened teeth. It spoke to me in a voice low but loud like thunder, "GO AND TELL THEM ALL WHAT YOU HAVE SEEN! TELL THEM OF MY ARMY! TELL THEM WE ARE COMING! TELL THEM WE WILL EAT YOU ALL!" ".

"What do you mean by it?" asked the interviewer.

Behind a one-way window looking in on the interview, two other UN investigators could hear the phrase she said over and over again "KLASH WURDULAK! KLASH WURDULAK!KLASH WURDULAK!"

"What do you think?" the UN investigator asked his partner.

"Could be PTSD causing her to lose touch with reality, or Klash could be using drugs and psychological warfare to make people think he is much more than a man. It wouldn't be the first time that happened in history.".

"That still doesn't explain why we didn't find any evidence of her being drugged after she made it back to base. The shrinks seem to think she isn't completely insane outside of the story she just told."

"There is always the third option," said his partner looking at him.

Behind The Lines Interview 2058
[As I traveled closer to the DMZ I began to see less and less intact buildings and increasingly less people all together even though a shot in anger hasn't been fired by any group since the end of Israel's civil war. That doesn't mean the hatred or extremism has gone away at all. In fact this no man's land in between the lines of control is host to one of the most dangerous groups in the world that just the day before this interview launched an attack which killed over 20 people. The "Soldiers Of The Covenant" or "The Army Of The Most High" depending on who you ask among their ranks; tops most nations most lost of dangerous terror organizations with branches and affiliates in almost every country. After a while we arrived at a bombed out village left over from the civil war and I was greeted by a group of terrorists holding up one finger as I stepped out of the car. The finger being a form of a military salute mixed with celebratory hello, with the finger representing "the one true god of Abraham". Among them I see Christians, Jews, and Muslims although any other sects of these three religions would not call them by that name. After getting out of the car a black bag was placed over my head and the next thing I knew I was underground somewhere and in front of me was David Shabazz Washington Al-Fayeed the leader of The Covenant.]

May the most high light be upon you my friend, but I am truly sorry about the bag, both the Israelis and Palestinians have begun to let China use their drones to try and monitor us for one of their little raids. They think they are paying us back for our strike against Beijing.

[Are you saying you were behind the attacks yesterday?]

Yes and we will be having a press statement coming out tomorrow the reason why we won't be doing it sooner as it could get in away of our interview. We have time to talk about that later, but let address the basics first. Shall we?

[Where did the convent come from?]

The idea came from returning vets from the second American civil war after serving under Jamar Spikes. Many of us Christians, Jews, and Muslims hated each other before we served together. Most of us came from the Middle East although a lot of the Christians came from the Europe or South America. The vast majority of the volunteers were young men and women who had nothing left in their lives in their home country, but poverty and sin. We saw what our American brothers and sisters were doing against the first Great Satan and couldn't help, but join them especially after Jamar put out the call for a true holy war. We were so tired of the bullshit at home, we figured that the grass was greener on the other side. After that war was over and many of us returned home to these dens of sins. After years of living as god wanted and returning back home and seeing so much sin we couldn't help but pick up the gun again.

[Why the hatred for China?]

Why not? They are the biggest infidels on the planet; they not only outlaw god from within their government and force their people into godlessness, but they spread their vile influence across the globe. If we don't fight them now it may be too late. God willing the flag of the Covenant shall be raised above the remains of the communist party headquarters.

[Do you really believe that?]

To quote the great Jamar Spikes "If God is with us who can stand against us".

[What about Jamar Spikes denouncing you?]

I understand it, his war is over now, our is just beginning. The old man did his time and we are thankful for him. God bless him and God bless America.

DRIVE EM OUT: Rockish Early Victories in Texas
DRIVE EM OUT:
Rockish Early Victories in Texas
"The modern archetype of the American General has its origins in three people Cheyenne Cherry, George Howard A.V Rockish, and Jamar Spikes. Two out of three mentioned sided against the union in the second civil war. Only one, George Rockish sided against the rebellion.

Born in 2005 into two prominent African and Mexicans American rancher families with a long military and political history dating back even to the Texas revolution. His mother was the daughter of a billionaire and senator and his father state senator, and a lawyer. Needless to say great things were expected of Rockish. He exceeded expectations graduating high school at the age of 15 before joining West Point at 17.

After the start of The Second Civil War and already a respected commander Rockish managed to score several victories against the rebels in the early war period in west Texas stopping the rebel push towards Austin. While rumors of his appointment as general being only a political one ran wild initially due to his age after the battle of San Angelo which saw around 1,500 dead Federal for around 6,600 rebels his critics were left silent. What didn't remain silent for long at least was his open and barely tolerated hatred towards the Harris administration and the way they seemed in his words "Run this damn war on a KD ratio like its COD.".

The disdain was mutual from Harris who would often end video briefings with Rockish in arguments that if it wasn't for the meetings being virtual would have no doubt ended in a physical altercation between the General and the President, yet Rockish would be tolerated by Harris and given more freedom to command his soldiers how he seemed fit due to his success.

The first major act he did as general was ending what he called "All this technological and political pageantry". Soldiers would strip down to little more than a uniform, a rifle, coms, and the occasional backpack even when given options for things like exoskeletons Rockish would oftentimes deny it to his troops unless the situation called for it.

"Why would I send a man with 20,000 dollars worth of gear when I can get the same job done with the same man with 1,000 bucks worth gear.".

In addition to that he would often disregard the pro Federal political training instead focusing on combat training. This earned him the nickname "Half Rebel Rockish".

Rockish above all else understood the rebels and never underestimated his enemies.
"I believe some of the greatest men and women of the last three generations are fighting in this war we find ourselves in."
-Rockish in his personal Journal 2033.

Rockish recognized the war they were fighting while having the trapping of the 21st century was really a 20th century if not older style of conflict. Instead of relying on strands of information that was passed around and monitored online which often end up to be ANA disinformation or propaganda; Rockish built up a good old fashioned spy network for information.

While most Federal forces targeted rebel cities believing them to house the largest number of ANA leaders and soldiers, Rockish recognized that the true stronghold of most rebel authority was in the rural countryside and enveloped the cities only after slowly and methodically driving rebels from outside of it. While some Federal media outlets would call for his removal due to his anti-political tones and methodical nature when it came to war, President Harris would have none of it.

Still Rockish would be lambasted in the press for being an alleged rebel sympathizer. He didn't help his case much as many of his antics and outburst or open hostility towards the media became almost meme-like, in press conferences he would often call male reporters out their names and flirt with their female counterpart in the same breath. His womanizing antics got so bad that the President wrote him to stop dating until the war was won. To which Rockish wrote in one of his more famous one word letters "No".

While politically and socially problematic Rockish managed to inspire a fighting spirit in those fighting under his command, even rivaling Jamar Spikes, which would begin to show itself during Spikes's second Invasion of the north and the following Federal Appalachian campaign."
-A man's comes around the story of General George Rockish 2176

Womanizing antics and bullish behavior aside, seems like Gen. Rockfish is the only Federal commander with a brain.

Home By Christmas
Tyler Haven looked over the snow covered field above the rows of trenches that seemed to stretch on for an eternity before disappearing into the snowy fog. He had been drafted a few months back, uprooted from his life in New York City and drugged out to the border between Pennsylvania and Ohio to man a trench. Tyler thought of home, of his mother cooking and the warm bed that he used to complain about being uncomfortable, but now would give anything in the world to lay in for one more night.

It was Christmas time and the mail drones had been put into overtime driving and delivering letters. Video calls were far too expensive of a luxury for Tyler could afford and the internet in the trench was horrible anyway, so writing was the only real way he could talk to his family outside of the allotted phone time he earned for doing extra shit on his duty.

The letters from home he would get would usually be filled with updates on the family, how grandma was doing, that his little sisters missed him and how his two mothers wished the war would end soon. Tyler tried to keep his letter about his experience at the front lines far less darker than it actually was, he didn't want to worry his mother by telling her that his trench was nearly overrun after some idiot tear gassed their on trench instead of the charging rebels or that while he was eating chow a drone nearly killed him by dropping a tannerite bomb and blowing off the cook's right leg. He didn't want to scare us mothers about the war, so he kept the topics of his letters far from the actual fighting, only talking about his daily life in the trench and complaining about the cold.

Tyler sighed as he lit a cigarette and listened to the radio something about China and Twain. Apparently the Twainese were putting up one hell of a fight that would make Operation Olympic look tame. They managed to hold the PLA off at the Chungyang Range, but probably wouldn't last a few more years. Apparently the fighting was so bad over there that the PLA started using DPRK soldiers to occupy cities. Tyler shivered at that, Kim Yo Jong was almost as insane as that manic in the Ozarks.

Tyler was actually thankful he wasn't in the Ozarks fighting Klash, from what heard Klash's soldiers were worse than wild animals. He spoke with a soldier who knew somebody that had a half cousin in the Ozark front and they swore to god that Klash and his men weren't even human anymore. Tyler wasn't one to spend too much time listening to the rumor mill run wild, but this war was such an awful scourge on this country that it would only be fitting it would make monsters out of men. Then Tyler wonder again as he opened up his phone looking through some of his pictures of when he first got to the front, how long would be for him

Top 5 Second Civil War: Alternate History Channel.com 2113
Libraries of stories in the past century since the start and end of the second civil war have reimagined how things could of been different here are the top 5 stories that we have chosen:

The Horrors That Never Were: One of the more utopian tales of avoiding the Second Civil War that saw both Clinton and Trump lose their respective nominations to Jeb Bush (Republican) and Elizabeth Warren (Democrat). Its chart into the early 2090's with the PRC the main antagonist of the America in the series reforming itself into a multiparty confederation in 2092 and America retaining it superpower status into the 22rd century with the story ending with NASA breaking the Light Barrier in 2100.

Look Upon The White Horseman: One of the many what if Klash's stories , but it managed to distinguish itself by focusing on the smaller stories within the war and ultimate collapse of North and Central America to BGB Klash's horde. Capturing perfectly the grim dark setting of a Klash victory. The story ends with implied nuclear exchange between the rest of the word lead by Russia and China against Klash's army after the invasion of Siberia.

A Quiet Little War: Instead of completely avoiding a conflict a Quiet Little War tell the story of an America that is rocked with a much smaller insurgency after a Bernie Sanders victory in 2020 and attempted right wing capital insurrection being put down on inauguration day lead to decade long trumpist insurgency.

Home By Christmas: A series of novel set in two worlds each one telling what would happen if the ANA or Feds won by Christmas of 2029 with minimal casualties each novel is broken into two parts one where the Feds won and the other for the ANA.

The Dawn Shine Brightest When It's Crimson: Set in a world where China and a Neo Soviet Union inavded the US during the eve of the second civil war. Written shortly before WW3 it remains important for its historical significance."

Oh Canada: The War In North Of The Border:Chapter one
"While the Canadian government supported the US politically, it was rather hesitant to give large scale military aid fearing that it could upset the ANA, which could lead to a straight-up Invasion by American Rebel forces in its western provinces either up through the Rockies under Cheyenne Cherry or down through Alaska into the Yukon.

The Dominion had already been struggling with its own internal conflict, which was more similar in the beginning to the Northern Irish Troubles than the open civil war its southern neighbor had to deal with at the time. In it, eastern cities Canada had to contend with the BAF, Urban Klashist, French separatists in Quebec, and even chapters of the Canadian NFAC that refused to allow Canadian police into black neighborhoods. To its western areas, it had to deal with largely rural separatist militias as well mostly isolated to Albertan militias and Indigenous militants in their western and more rural parts of the country, which made many parts of the Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, the Yukon Territory increasingly harder to enforce the rule of law in due the attacks, protests, and the flood of refugees through the Pacific Northwest Pocket.

The Pacific Northwest Pocket or Northwest Corridor was a corridor officially under Federal control in between the ANA army of Cascadia and the ANA army of the Rockies, but in function, it was bandit country where members of almost all rebel factions battled it out for control. Among the refugees that fled into their northern neighbor were members of several American Insurgencies, which quickly made contact with their northern allies and brought in guns, training and equipment. In the Rockies, the "Amash Cheyenne Trail" quickly became a path of tunnels, hidden hideouts, and safe houses across the Rockies mountains and into rural Canada

A sharp spike in insurgent activity would begin after the assassination of the Canadian Prime Minister viva, a suicide bomber from a follower of Klashism would lead to a more warhawkish leadership taking control of the country and beginning to coordinate more with the Americans against the rebel fighters. In response to this, many of the militias and militants in rural Canada with ties to the ANA banned together under the "Western Freedom Front " made up of native revolutionary groups, left and right-wing Anarchists and, libertarian militias. The group's first actions were series of targeted bombings of highway convoys, weapons factories, along with the occasional ambush against rural law enforcement and national authorities. In short, they began to make part of rural western Canada ungovernable.

The WFF was almost as wild and ungovernable by the ANA as it was to the Candian government. The group was a patchwork of mostly highly decentralized units with many cells only having around three members and often having lone wolf cells in some parts. Left and Right-wing militias often fraught with each other in small skirmishes, and native militants, a lot of the time, outright refuse to follow or aid other nonindigenous militias in battle preferring to only act defensively.

However, there were outliers, the largest of which would come to be known as The Nova Frontiersmen Society, a militia that sprouted from the mind of the mid 2020's writer Edward Hans Striker. Edward Striker would lay down his ideology in his graphic novels dubbing it's Neo Frontiersmanism, which in his words in a speech in 2026 "Is the bridge between Ecological Primitivism, futurism, Eco transhumanism, and topped with a solar punk aesthetic; which advocate for more traditional lifestyles and an eco-friendly way of living through the advancement of green technology.". In short, he was "Techprim" or just a mad man with a militia of equally crazy heavily armed supporters, depending on who you asked.

While his sanity was in question, his ability to score victory after victory wasn't as he began to outmaneuver the Candian authorities and even escape after being captured several times. One of which cost him his left arm, which was replaced by a stolen military prosthetic in 2032. The "Wild Bandit," as he would begin to be called, almost began to develop a folktale-like quality to him as many of his group's achievements were credited by locals to him personally.

The Canadian government now dealing with serval insurgencies within their borders and growing anti-war movement as deaths of "Candian advisors and aid" began to mount would start, to weaken and be threatened by it on civil war. The Montreal riots or Montreal Uprising saw in June of 2031 anti-war riot turn into a uprising by the French-speaking population after the police fired into unarmed protesters after almost three weeks of mass rioting and looting across the province of Quebec, the riots were put down with around 53 deaths in total; for many in Canada, the war in America was a preview of things to come in there own land.

The War In The Southwest 2178
"While many invite the comparison between the ADFM & the NFAC and it may even seem on the surface that the two groups may have some large scale similarities, outside of the two being militias of traditionally marginalized minorities that main enemy was racist counter militias and both at least nominally in case of the ADFM were on the Federal government side against the ANA. The ADFM was a far cry from the NFAC.

Far more loosely organized and near ungovernable by its command structure, combined with its loose criteria for acceptance; criminal connections with cartels, and general lack of training and discipline among the soldiers of the militia; the ADFM was far more brutal than their NFAC counterparts. Acts of retaliatory violence would be much more common with the ADFM than in the southeast forcing the NFAC to distance itself from their Hispanic allies. In one such instance after a white militia locked 125 Hispanics into a church before setting it ablaze units of the ADFM traveled to a nearby small white town of Sellersfalls and after a short gun battle between local police/militia rounded up all males between the ages of 12 and 60 killed them before burning the town down killing upwards of 250 people.

"At a certain point it wasn't even about taking land but just killing the enemy; we were there to kill; to kill them all."
-Veteran of the war in the Southwest.

Another reason for the ADFM being more brutal was that a large portion of its foreign aid and volunteers came from the cartels who brought with them the tactics they had learned in the Mexican war on drugs. The most powerful of these backers were the Jalisco New Generation Cartel or CJNG for short; which was at the time the most violent of Mexico's narco militias. A majority of the bloodiest massacres have been in recent years attributed to CJNG back units or units of pro-ADFM CJNG units themselves. CJNG and other cartels also brought mass funding for the ADFM allowing them to buy heavier weapons or in some cases produce their own homemade weapons and improvised armored vehicles.

"The US-Mexican border area became a playground and testing place for new cartel weapons and tactics that would later be used in the Narco Wars of the Second Mexican Revolution."
-The Collapse of the Golden Eagle 2172

The white side was equally if not outright far more brutal as while; at least the leadership of the ADFM tried to direct focus on military targets; the white militia on the other hand simply killed anyone who wasn't their skin color. In the southeast, the large numbers of blacks civilians weren't as affected due to the fact of having a stronger defense militia present in most black areas until the "cracking" the number of attacks of black civilians were low and mostly relegated to isolated communities outside of a few notable exceptions; for Hispanics in the southwest United States this was far from the average. Entire populations and large communities would be wipeout with every man woman and child being murder by racists. The largest of these racist groups who carried out the attempted genocide was the White Patriot's League. Which was a confederation of different anti-Hispanics and anti-immigration groups the group also counted other members of fascist terrorist groups like atomwaffen among its ranks.

In major cities, the fighting between these groups often took the form of something similar to pre-war urban gang wars only on a hyper-scale with both sides using heavy weapons frequently. In some rare cases, entire areas of cities would be filled with near-constant shootouts which could last for days between different rival militias. It got so bad that black areas in south Dallas declared an autonomous zone and refused to let anyone besides supply trucks into the walled-off sections of the city. What was another factor that made the war so horrible was the amount of publicity it got as both groups aired out their war crimes on social media.

The actions of the ADFM left the Federal government increasingly growing distant from the group, but not wanting to open another front, any large-scale move against the ADFM was completely out of the question. Although Gen. Rockish would be pretty open about his feelings saying "I will never in my goddamn life work with demons to defeat the devil.".

Rockish would remain true to his word not working with the ADFM for the entire war and being openly vocal against them which lead to an attempt on his life after the war while he was giving a speech; he would be shot five times two of which went through his vest, but Rockish would return fire killing them would-be assassin before going on to finish the speech the next day where he would mock the shooter saying "after that entire war you guys still can't aim for shit.". The assassin belonged to the anti-treaty ADFM and his action would be condemned by the pro-treaty ADFM veteran society. "

Unsoiled Ground
"While the main goal of the NFAC was to "Protect the Black Community," there have always been strong separatists elements among their ranks since the start of the organization. As the group shifted its aims from simple protests to protect the black community, much of the more nationalistic agenda was sidelined in favor of addressing immediate short-term issues of the communities they protect, but soon after the start of the Hollows and into the war, the idea of black nationhood or at the very least black autonomy took hold even stronger than ever in some parts of the organization leadership.

Allowed political parties in the NFAC such as the left-leaning New Afrikan People's Congress or NAPC or the more economically liberal Black Unity Party, or even the smaller extreme rightwing National Black Action Union NBAU would begin to advocate more and more for stronger post-war concessions from the Federal government to black people in the southeast. Ranging from all black majority counties being regrouped as one larger or several smaller states within the union; to total black independence to an autonomous black republic based in the southeast. In late January of 2031, all of the major black nationalistic political parties would agree to form one big tent party which would advocate for more black autonomy until after the war was over, where it was agreed upon that the parties would all break up. The group managed to draft several post-war reparations ideas, several of which became laws, one such example being black people exemption from any military draft, which became hotly contested during the one up towards America entrance into World War Three, helping to lead to the long red summers of 2058-2059.

For some African Americans waiting for after the war was too long, and many civilians began to take matters into their own hands. White-owned communities, lands, and farms which were abandoned during the fighting would soon find new black owners as squatters would often simply walk into these places and set up shop. Many of these places' original owners would not return, but those that would venture back and try and reclaim their homes after the end of the war would find that in most cases, it would be legally impossible to do so, which would lead to the "housing wars" of the late 2030s to the early 2050s.

In some case, the squatters would be accused of forcing the original owners off their lands by use of force, leading to charges of "Ethnic Cleansing" and even the designation of the NFAC as a terror group by Hungary and a few other far-right EU states, although these designations didn't really have much effect on the NFAC as the black population was so low in the countries that enacted such laws the Militia didn't even have a branch there, the NFAC never officially advocating for the use of force to take land away from their owners. However, the NFAC also never truly enforced any rule of law against the squatters and would come to their defense in the "Housing War."

White groups would play up the squatters as evidence to their fictitious claims of a "white genocide.". The fight for land became one of the main rallying cries for the Allied Forces For The Patriotic Defense Of Dixie, better known as the Dixie Defense Force or DDF for short and headed by Cletus Early Turner. After the killing of the DDF founder Michael Cassidy was killed in a Federal drone strike, Cletus would stage a coup in the group and begin an attempted propaganda campaign to "clean up" their image and paint them as defending themselves. This would mostly ring out on deaf ears as most whites in the south saw the DDF for what they were, a bunch of genocidal madmen who kidnap boys and turn them into killers. It still gave them enough plausible deniability to recruit from overseas in their propaganda videos.

While the DDF propaganda failed to convince southern whites on the whole to join their call, but it did manage to make inroads in between some Republican-backed militias and the Federal government. These Republican militias, since the beginning of the war and even before the war, had a history of hostility with the NFAC and distrust of the federal government who they saw as playing favorites. Here is a clip from an interview of a Republican militia commander."

"We are undermined, undertrained, and underfunded. The NFAC is the opposite, well, maybe except for the training part. "

"Nevermind the fact that the majority of the NFAC hardware came from prewar purchases without any federal aid, or the fact that the Republican militias in the southeast had some of the largest internal mole population during the war. The mention of the lack of training on the NFAC part is another example of stereotypical caricatures blinding white militias to the actual fact even this late into the war. It wouldn't be until after the "Cracking" where white, and Republican-backed militias finally got over stereotypes, and by that time, it was far too late for any hope for a "white south" as many of them wanted.

While this concludes our lecture for today, be sure to study for the quiz on Friday. It isn't for a grade or anything; I just want to see where the class is at, although I might use it for extra credit. Another reminder the midterm will be a paper like all the other exams in my class except for the final, which will be in the form of a sim." Professor Ethan Robertson Epps said as he watched his class leave; he kicked his feet up on his desk and pulled up one of the AR molding menus for his sim exam he was working on through his eye implant. He hadn't mess with gene modding all that much he didn't trust that level of tech inside him, although his parents dove head force into it, while it worked for them as they looked like they were in their late 60's when they were bordering on being centenarians and would probably Oshun willing live another twenty or thirty years. Ethan didn't trust the stuff; too many cases of it going haywire. Ethan pushed those thoughts away as he started to build his exam.

True Path
"Let us spread like a virus, let us become a virus, for all it takes is one patient zero to start the black tide in every decadent state all over the world. We are the true New Black Death. All it takes for one man in one country to spread the Gospel of Chaos. We do not seek to replace what came before, we seek to destroy the state not to replace it with another one, we bring with us the apocalypse, long live mother anarchy, hoist the black flag!".

While this quote seems like something that would came out of the mouth of Klash The Impaler in fact this is a transcript of the audio message by Nigerian terror group "The True Path" or "True Way" announcing the start of their years of terror all across west Africa and other parts of the continent.

Organized by college intellectuals and military veterans of the war against Boko Haram and originally called Nigerians for Peace and Prosperity. The group would transform from a protest movement to a militant anarchist terror group after the crackdown on the group by government forces after the July Tenth coup which brought Ayinke Ibrahim into power. Ibrahim would personally organize crackdowns against any group she thought could be a threat against her version for a Nirgian centered west Africa. The subsequent crackdowns drove the group underground where they would meet "Agents of Klash" youths who had been radicalized by Klash's action and music with many of their leaders killed or in jail it was essay for this group to become radicalized and only a few months after the first crack downs had begun the group re-emerged as "The True Path" a Klash adjacent terror group.

The group ideology like Klash's believed that the state, society, and civilization needed to be completely obliterated in order for their brand of anarchism to grow and replace it.

"We shall bring forth the apocalypse to end western civilization on the continent of Africa. Death to the west, death to all non African influences within our motherland. Death to Islam and death to Christianity. Death to socialism and death to capitalism. Death to phony tribalization emplaced and entrenched by Europe and other non African bad faith actors."
-A press statement after the bombing of the British embassy in Sierra Leone.

While as violent as they were, ironically the group could be seen as progressive on social issues. Over 50 percent of the fighters were women and the group had no barriers against LGBTQ+ memberships and didn't hold any regards to any tribal groups.

On April 15, 2033 in Liberia a mega church that advocated for "the huntings of gays" was bombed on the day several similar attacks across Uganda, Nigeria, Sudan and Mauritania happened. The True Path would take responsibility for the attacks as they were happening.

"Our first attack against the Imperialistic imposed anti LGBTQ states system of repression is a success. This is a war for total liberation; Liberty for all not from some!"

-Statement from hijack Ugandan TV signal.

The True Path wouldn't stay confined to just Africa in 2034 they began what they called "Operation Downfall". Where group members would begin training European leftist and post left terror groups across Europe to help fuel the EU Troubles.

What made "True Path" so hard to destroy was the fact it was more of a collective than a centralized terror organization. A country could destroy the"True Path" insurgency and then have to deal with several more. There was no true leadership to kill or reason with, no true base of operation to raid or bomb. It wasn't even a cells based; they were completely different organizations with little connection to each other than ideology.

Ironically The True Way outlived Klash not ending operations until after WW3 and two decades after the formation of the AFU, but their for a lack of a better term "Hottest Years' ' was the decades between the 2030's and 2060's. After the Third World War and the massive reshuffling of wealth and power it brought combined with formation of the African Federated Union True Path saw less and the less growth in Africa and a slow delcain as many of the youth began to prefer a middle class comfortable life than fighting in the bush as a terrorist hated by his their own countrymen. However in Europe oddly enough klashist groups would still run rampant which included several True Way off shoots. One of these groups The True Path for Europe would organize the 12/24/82 attacks killing upwards of five thousand people and starting the AFU war on terror which lasted to almost the start of GW4.

Washington DC
"Who is She?" asked the President to the group of Intelligence officials gathered around the situation room conference table. A photo of a woman on a white and brown horse projected onto the wall in front of the conference table.

"Her name is Alejandra Rodriguez, third-generation immigrant and ex-preacher for a socialist Christian dominionist sect before the war. All intelligence points to her being second in command in the army of the Appalachians. Alejandra makes Jamar look sane when it comes to religiosity. Towns under control had people publicly whipped for adultery, a complete ban on alcohol, strictly enforced modesty laws, the manufacture of illicit drugs punishable by stoning, and there are reports that coursing isn't allowed." said the FBI Director.

"Jesus fucking Christ, these people are loons, but what else is new?" said the President taking a drink; it was far too early to start drinking, but at this point, she didn't even care how she looked in front of the rest of the staff.

"We believe she may be planning a terror attack, from what we have seemed to gather from propaganda militias under her control are encouraging lone-wolf attacks on government offices," said another man in a military suit who was more of a political pundit than an actual strategist.

"Double up on security around government buildings, what else?"

"National Unity is complaining about the NFAC not allowing them to campaign in the southeast. It doesn't help that Owen called Jay a genocidal terrorist leader."

"I can't control what Owens says, but will it take for NFAC to let them campaign? I don't want international observers giving me any more shit about not letting anti-war traitors like Owens work behind Federal lines."

"They are willing to let her have limited stops in the south if we give them access to some more of our facilities and several batches of body armor along with several armaments for their F-4 phantoms and Helicopters.".

"Divert the armor shipments meant for Texas to the South Rockfish wasn't gonna use them anyway. See if we got any leftover air-to-ground missiles, but I don't like the idea of those people having an Air Force. Is there anything else, because I have a meeting at 3:00."

"There is something wrong with the Ozarks; all traffic on the Net by Klash's forces has been growing darker and darker." said the director.

"Do we know why?" asked the President taking another ship of her drink.

"No, ma'am, but what is more concerning is that he has stopped expanding as of several weeks ago, matching the start of the increase in Net silence."

"So you are concerned we finally managed to contain that crazy son of bitch?" asked Harris, a bit annoyed.

"We didn't, Madam President; they stop on their own accord. There is just a dark zone in the middle of our country. Intel's agents implanted within the ANA near the Ozark front are reporting that even the other rebel groups don't know what's going on. We managed to pick up some even more concern; they haven't stopped in their production of weapons, mostly light armored cars, trucks, and old national guard tanks. I spoke to Gen Rockish, and he thinks Klash may be planning an offensive, most likely a northern push into ANA-held areas. Heavy fighting between our and ANA troops has begun to weaken each other to the point where we haven't been able to hold Klash off for much longer."

"Can we reinforce some of those areas? I don't want this nut job taking another inch of land. You know that fucker is threatening to eat me; who the fuck even does that?" said Kamal; that is something else she picked up with the drinking, coursing.

"The best we can do is airdrop some of the most enclosed units, but a lot of that land is a hodgepodge of ANA and Klash with the occasional island of Federal control," said General Westhall he learned to say in encircled around Harris as that always set her off, but the term enclosed seemed to have a slightly lighter effect on the President.

"So what do we just pray Klash is done." asked the President finishing her drink.

"For the time being, that is all we can do, ma'am."

A Dying Sun
December 25, 2025

It was late even for Klash, then again, he always preferred to be around a fire around this time of year than going to a record label party, but the woman across the seat made it all worth it. Anastasia was his everything since the first time they met at a party two days after he was shot three times in Atlanta.

Anastasia was born in Russia to a black American mother and a White Russian father, but she was forced to leave after her dad was killed for the crime of getting himself on Putin's shit list. At the age of 12, she went from being driven to private schools in Maybachs to living in the trenches of Atlanta. Being dead broke must have drawn out her talents because, by the time they had met, she was already making plays on the radios as "Russian Doll." Her lyrics were as bloody and dangerous as her beef was; that was what made her different from the city girl crowd.

"I love you know that." He said, hugging her in the back of the SUV.

"Quintavius, I bet you say that to all your fans." Anastasia teased.

"Just the one I plan on spending the rest of my life with," said Klash, kissing her. She was his first and only love, the only person who he would ever let call him by the name his POS egg donor excuse for a mother gave him. Usually, that name brought back old memories of abuse, starvation, being sold out, drugs, and just all-around pain, but when Anastasia said it, the name felt like medicine healing away from the trauma of his past years.

Klash found the scene unfolding within the doors of the G wagon almost comedic in an ironic sort of way. Two lovers cuddling together on a Christmas night on their way to a party, while at the same time his music was playing through the radio the lyrics were an open point blank confession of a quadruple homicide which he was acquitted of, to be fair Klash thought of the men that his song was mocking the crying family of, as little more than drones of a fascist system, in short, those were his opps and by the very nature of them being opps he had the right to smoke on a pack and brag about it.

As the car stopped at a red stoplight, Klash could see a police car pull up beside them. It all happened so fast; Klash didn't even feel the shots until he noticed that he was covered in a mixture of his driver's, his own blood, and what was left of the right side of Anastasia's face. By the time that had happened, the police car was gone. Klash dragged his body out of the car, covered in his own blood, stumbling towards the lights of the nearby gas station with over ten bullet holes in him. The only thing that kept him going was adrenaline and raw adulterated hatred. As he began to fall into unconsciousness, he made a promise that he would have his revenge; he would kill them all. They had taken everything away from him, and Klash was gonna make sure he was gonna make them all pay.

February 2031:
Klash woke up in a cave, the setting sun trickling in through the makeshift door cracks.

"General, the gas is here, and the drone carries have given us the message that the others on all fronts have gotten their shipments." said Commander Katty Shore, a child soldier barely over 14 but a master at what Klash called "His Crusade."

"To much light, I will be out once the sun has finished dying." He said, getting up and doing a line of brown brown at the feet of a statue of Mother Anarchy that was little more than a statue of the virgin mary painted black with the red outline of a skeleton painted over the top. After his "prayer "was done, he prepared himself in the mirror. Klash applied his war paint before preparing his outfit: a black cloak, camo pants, and black combat boots. Taking one final look at himself in the mirror, his teeth were replaced with a jewelry encrusted grill that looked more animal than man, and he had personally sharpened his K9s. Klash smiled at himself before pulling up his skull mask above his mouth as he walked out into the setting sun; the time of vengeance was near, soon the day will break, and as the winter died, the night would rise.

I think I know who the President is ITTL? Judging by the last name "Harris" and the fact that President Harris is referred to by female pronouns, I'd say it's Kamala Harris. But was Biden killed, or did she win an election on her own.

Driving South
The army of Appalachia/The Appalachian free state/ or The Free State Of Spikes had been locked into a defensive stalemate with the Federal government fighting back Constant Federal incursion after Operation Blunted Sword pushed the ANA from most of the North East by the end of 2030. A static front had begun to develop around the West Virginia and Pennsylvanian state border with no sides making any real push into each other territories with some towns changing hands several times a day and dozens of times a week to the point where locals would have the amount of time each side had captured the town written on a scoreboard. Needing to both have a win for propaganda and wanting to stop the Yankee push into north Appalachia Gen. Jamar Spikes decided to take a risk and use a few thousand of his men to push south to divert Federal troops and defensive there, so that he could push north with the majority of his troops towards D.C.

At first, the National Salvation Government political leadership wouldn't allow Jamar to go through with his idea wanting to in their minds maintain the focus on Washington D.C. A push south would divert resources from that goal in a stalemate. While Spikes saw it differently, believing it was impossible for the Federal Government to maintain a static front at both ends of the Appalachian Mountains for more than a few months, if not a few weeks.

"I had a devil of time convincing Alexandria of it, "Push North Spikes our goal is Washington, not Atlanta" was her response at first; it took me practically begging and making a PowerPoint for her to authorize me to at least start planning for it. After a while, I think I just wore her down into saying yes. Ojeda was on my side and understood that the fed boys couldn't hold two front in the Appalachia's they would either lose parts of Kentucky and Tennessee maybe even sections northern Georgia or lose ground the in the northeast again."
-Jamar Spikes memoirs late 21st century.

On January 24, 2021, the authorization for "Operation Two Masters" was given, and by the middle of February, there had begun to be some noticeable build-up towards the southern Appalachian Mountains. At first, the Federal Government dismissed the idea of an ANA Invasion of the South as nonsensical as it was believed by the feds that the main goal of the Jamar Spikes and the Eastern ANA was the capture of D.C. Thus Washington and the Harris administration's response was limited mostly to the occasional drone strike on troops near the southern border of the range.

One morning of February 28, a massive cyberattacks on the South Eastern RFC grid would be followed up by reports of a massive build-up of soldiers numbering around 35,000 who had originally been disguised as civilian refugees would be reported near the border then on March 1st, scattered reports of fighting and then the overrunning of Federally controlled positions by ANA soldiers. Overwhelmed and caught off guard, numerous counties would be sized along with scores of strategic locations. What was just diverting action became a full-scale Invasion.

On March 10, rightwing ANA in North West, Kentucky, took advantage of the state rushing soldiers east, and managed to actually push into the suburbs of Louisville, Kentucky, threatening the city forcing the first major use of NFAC non drone air attack assets, mi-24s along with retrofitted civilian helicopters pounded the rebel positions managing to push them out of the suburbs of the city.

What little airpower the state had left was busy trying to stop the advancing rebels before they could move their anti-air system into the area. Eventually, by March 15 and after the loss of over 8,400 Federal soldiers and militia and 6,700 ANA soldiers, a new stalemate would be established, but at the coast of moving soldiers from the north making way for 2032 and Rebel march towards D.C."

A New Temple A History of Southern Christianity 2030-2170
It wasn't a surprise that the walk out by black members of the Southern Baptist Convention happened , but how long it took. While the excuses given by both sides were officially blamed on different interpretations of canon and biblical lore, the truth was far more racial and political. The break up of the convention would help lay the foundation for the mostly black South Eastern Baptist Congress SEBC and the mostly white Southern Baptist Union SBU.

As mentioned before officially the split was started over religious beliefs, while this is true with a lot of black churches in the post war south incorporating aspects ot African animism and ancestor veneration into their beliefs; it is widely believed that the true reason for the split was the Hollows driving a wider split between the communities. The increasing resegregation of the south leading up to the fighting and the war radicalizing and destabilizing the black and white religious population of the south allowed for the fishers to grow. Pro NFAC propaganda didn't help much as it lambasted the fact the sizable majority of the racists militias were praying to a person of color, which made white radicals adopt a more of an white Christian identity stance.

NFAC backed preachers often used the narrative of hebrews fighting for a holy land comparing it to their modern day struggle . Some chapters of the NFAC went farther an openly practice different strains of Hebrew Israeliteiam better known as "Lost tribe theology". While the high command of the militia never gave direct orders to crack down on these units, different state and regional commander often at their own discretion cracked down and even disbanded some units based on their beliefs, Marcus Henderson was famous for not allowing anything close to Lost Tribe Theology within any chapter under his command.

In mixed communities fights over religion doctrine would only exacerbate the ongoing fighting that would eventually lead to the cracking. Church burning by white and black Christians against each other became something which occurred almost weekly. One tradition that both White and Black Southern Baptistshare even to this day of having a rifle behind the pulpit date mainly back to the war; where churches were under threat of being attacked by other Christians.

Religious violence wasn't just limited towards Baptists reports of the killings of Irish catholic minorities by Klan groups sparked outrage which eventually lead to a small group of a few hundred Irish volunteers joining the Lincoln brigades. However, the majority of the killing of catholic in the south were usually incidental as many of the victim were catholic Hispanics.

In the post war era for decades especially during reconstruction there would be semi occasional outbreaks of mass violence between religious communities which peaked in the mid to late 2040's during the housing wars, where upset white minorities in the newly created states of Harriet, Freedland, and Douglass would stage a low level civil conflict backed by the nearby white majority states."

The Up & Up
Malik and Mia sat in a trench overlooking the exterior of their base little more than a wall built up around an old coal mine shaft turned private bunker in the 1980's and then after the war, it became their unit base of operation.

"So I heard we almost took Louisville?" said Malik.

"We would have licked those fed boys if it wasn't for the NFAC, counter-revolutionary fuckers." said Mia looking over the Appalachian ridgeline and bemoaning the loss of the propaganda prize of the capture of another major American city by the ANA.

"It's like Jamar always says "the Lord moves in mysterious ways, but never truly against us"," said Malik trying to comfort the girl he was pretty sure he loved, but honestly Malik didn't even know if he believed in those words or even god, it had only been a few months of real fighting, but he already knew war was far more brutal than any Hollywood movie made it out to be, even the liveleak videos that was passed around at his highschools of fighters in Venezuela, or the fighting in some parts of the US during the lead up to the actual war didn't come close to actually experiencing it in real-time and knowing that you could at any moment end up on those sites even if you were careful due to the sheer randomness of the organized chaos named warfare.

"I guess you're right, once we win the war there will be plenty of time to celebrate victory for now we must focus on the lord's works." She said although it sounded like she was trying to convince herself of that rather than actually believing it. Malik could tell there was something else on her mind "is there anything else-" before she could finish that sentence, she answered.

"I want to get married," Mia blurted out "it's the only way we can be together."

Malik kissed her and said, "we are already together."

"You know what I mean, it's the only way we can be together and not have it's a sin in the eyes of God.".

Malik pauses for a moment, and wandered about marriage with Mia. He loved her, but marriage was a big commitment, not something to be done haste, yet at the same time, he was reminded that he had so quickly decided to risk his life as a rebel, so why shouldn't he risk spending it with Mia.

Malik had finished thinking about it and was about to say something when Manny approached them. He was one of the few Filipino foreign volunteers, most of the foreign Asian fighters came from Japan and South Korea and a few from Singapore, they came for the same reasons why most of the other volunteers from Europe and other parts of the world came, they were mostly young men aged 15-27 with nothing going on in their life, lost in the sea of social isolation, Jamar in one of his radio sermons had said it was "The empty void brought about the false idols of capitalistic culture and godlessness that could only be filled with god's light." Malik didn't really understand what that meant but summed it up in his head as "these guys have nothing going on for themselves back home so they come here to fight and die for something".

"Good news, I managed to liberate some coffee off some federals after our last raid on their supply depot." He said tossing them some packets of coffee along with an MRE kit. Malik smiled, he had planned that raid with Mia's help, their militia leader Commandant Deja Brown, a strict but loving woman who was not much older than Mia or Malik, had actually let Malik along with a few others in the militia lead raiding parties and ambushes. Deja, while strict, still prized success in battle much more than proper etiquette like most of the ANA militia leaders and was willing to let the soldiers under her command choose their own raids from time to time.

Malik was actually masterful at raids and ambushes, his favorite tactics were to use a small group of his men to draw fire in one direction usually having soldiers aided with auto drones firing in changing positions to fool the federals into thinking he had more soldiers than he what really did, before attacking them with the majority of his soldiers from another direction usually from behind. Other times he would use psychological tactics hiding speakers in the woods and play recordings of gunfire to get the Feds to waste ammo firing back at positions where no one was, only to attack after the Feds had spent the majority of their heavy weapons shooting at ghosts.

"Speaking of which, I think Deja wants to see you, Malik." Manny said, taking a bite out of a pop tart from his MRE bag.

"Do you know why?" asked Mia.

"Nope, but she didn't seem to piss; so I wouldn't be too worried."

Malik made his way inside the bunker down a few flights of steps and then down a hallway until he made it into the makeshift conference room. In the room was the woman who couldn't be much older than 25, but the eye bags and stress lines gave her the appearance of someone much older.

"You wanted to see Ma'am?." asked Malik, somewhat intimidated by the woman who could have been his older sister, but carried the weight and presence of a mother.

"I got good news and bad news, what do you want to hear first?" Deja asked

"I guess the bad news, ma'am," said Malik wanting to get the bad stuff out of the way first.

"You are going home." She said abruptly.

"What? Wait, am I being kicked out?" a thousand thoughts shot through his mind about why what he was gonna say to Mia to his family once he got back home.

"No son, you are being promoted, the higher-ups heard the report of your actions." As she said this, Malik noticed the grey uniform along with the black plate carrier and the grey campaign hat, "Congratulations Commandant Beauregard you are now officially in charge of an irregular militia unit of the Eastern ANA army of the Appalachians, of course, you will have your pick of soldiers to lead and I'm guessing you will be taking Miss Mia as your second in command, but they're already a few enlisted soldiers near your home town ready to fight for God and Country."

"I-I don't know what to say, ma'am," said Malik who was totally unprepared for what Deja had just told him; he knew he was ok with planning raids and was pretty good leading people, but the way Deja talked it up made him sound like almost like a war hero "thank you." was all he could manage to say

"We can say save the gratitude until we win this damn war; your transport will be here at 0500, so get your goodbye in and hit the sack, early kid." She said with a smile.

Civilian Defense
Civilian Defense, the idea of the wartime civilian peacekeeping militia had been an idea since the start of the war where many of the police departments were gutted by defections, purges, or officers leaving to serve on the front lines. However, the first truly large-scale organized civilian defense units were in the South East during the Hollows in the spring of 2031.

The NFAC, while large, numbering over a million and a half by this point, was still stretched thin as they began to "expand" their holding; thus, it became necessary to have a civilian police force. Originally titled The Panther Core, the name would be changed quickly as it had too many similarities between them and Panthesoc, the NFAC special action command after a quick debate, the group would be renamed the Civilian Defense Corps broken up into two parts, one being the regular police arm meant to keep the peace on a local small-time level, and the Organization for Internal Security(OIS) which acted almost somewhere between the FBI and a secret police force meant to deal with political and extremist internal threats, both of these branches would be overseen by the Commission For Internal Activity which wild be renamed after the war to the New Afrikan Special Service of NASS.

There would be some controversy surrounding the group, especially the Organization for Internal Security, as it would be accused of cracking down on dissidents and anti-war groups while attacking or plotting against the National Unity Party. While a post-war inquiry and investigation would be launched during the truth and reconciliation commission on the group's actions towards the NUP, nothing would ever come of it as the NFAC would block the most investigation into the group's activities, but in 2150 it was revealed that the OIS was involved with several high profile killings of NUP leaders as well as framing serval members of the NUP. Whether or not the other branches of the NFAC knew about this is still unknown.

Nevertheless, the group would find success in their attended goal and free up a lot of fighters instead of tying them to policing neighborhoods. Civilian Defense Corps, however, was not as well trained as either the main NFAC fighting force or the Organization for Internal Security or even the Federal army for that matter. Large parts of the people who were never accepted truly had gun training, and the one that was provided was only around two weeks. Gear was outdated, and weapons were far from standardized. Ironically enough, they looked more like early NFAC and pre NFAC armed black movements of the 21st century, which would come into play with the start of the crisis known as the "Cracking."

The Federal forces seeing the success of the Civilian Defense Corps, would attempt to replicate to mixed effects. The Federal government pulled their forces from people too old to fight at the front or older veterans of the national guard. Even some felons depending on their crimes, became enforcers for Federal laws and order in exchange for their rights to be restored after the war was won. Members of well-known criminal gangs like the Black Stone Nation, Vice Lords, the Lucchese crime family, and the United Blood Nation would all have people within these Civil Defense Units.

These groups would be given training, and while effective, they would often be accused of overuse of force and police brutality. After the war, many of these men would go back to their life of crime better trained and battle-hardened; for example, elements of the Black Stones Nation, UBN, and other smaller black street gangs would become members of the Black Mafia. Other more rural-based gangs turn Civilians Defense Units would after the war form "bandit tribes." The government efforts to crack down on these bandits of their own making would lead to the "Bandit Wars," a sporadic series of small-scale conflicts which didn't completely end until the beginning of the 22nd century.

Although some of these groups of people were more complex than just gangs of bandits, many of these groups had their own culture and even government structures. Take, for example, Neo Vikings of the Pacific Northwest and parts of western Canada and into coastal Alaska or the Klingon tribes of the great planes. All of these gangs had their origins in veterans of the war, be it ANA or pro-Federal.
