The Way Forward: Helping a mortal navigate the Celestial Bureaucracy (Transmigration Quest)

Part of me hopes that maybe Magneto can be convinced after all. The things he does are wrong, but I can sympathize with his reasons.

Hela has quite a lot of final boss vibes, it's true.

Well. He hasn't done them yet. And I think, if he found out HYDRA had thoroughly infected SHIELD.. well, battlefield partners, mother of necessity, right?


Curious... Does she herself know that she is not human, or could this come as a surprise to her as well? Well, at least it doesn't suffer from plot devices that disable mutant abilities.

Hitomi does, actually. She has sufficient mastery of self.

Okay, so rather than *update the entire sheet* I'm going to work on it for this weekend, but here's a post out. (Technique rewriting is difficult because I'm also re-balancing them.)

This uses both votes, because I realized I could blend them. And I wanted to explore writing a more .. well, aware, Xiao▩▩▩▩. Having at least 10 divine essences gives you a bit of a perspective on what your powers are.

The Tree is a beautiful shining highway, and you think at this point it's repaired. If you keep going, though, you could overcharge it. Maybe even speed up transit. That said, you can turn over maintenance back to it's rightful owners. Who, likely, are confused at how it's been repairing itself.

You finally identify her divine name as Ci Xiaoqiao, the Princess of the Night Sky. That puts her on the level near, but not quite, the Celestial Princess. As you could guess, her domains were Night, Justice and Protection. But why was her prescense erased so thoroughly?

Rebuilding, even with the power to make it it's own realm, was going to take time. How do you catalog what could be, what was, and what never was now? The knowledge gods also had their own requirements, and your agents were stressed dealing with all of it.

And given the current realm being one where gods could easily intervene.. well. It's probably a good thing Xiaoqiao seemed to be in touch with even a fragment of her power.

The Celestial Host does get access to the Celestial Mythril, and is displeased to realize that Hong Meiling has access to the Orichalum and Diamond Corundum. But.. they start working on that problem themselves.

"It is unwise to be here by yourself." came an accented voice, and Hitomi didn't turn, having sensed their arrival.

"It is." She noted. "But it wasn't exactly my choice." She could tell she was being drawn to these mountains.

"Hmm..yes." The old man walked into the light, eying the well controlled foxfire warming the area. "I can sense your destiny here.. but it will call for you to walk a path of pain."

Hitomi nods. "I wouldn't have been sent here if not. I am Takeda Hitomi."

"An interesting name. I am The Ancient One." Hitomi bowed. "Still.. I think you could stand to learn from us." The Ancient One says. "You have a year before you can stride forth anyway."

Hitomi shakes her head. "I have six months." She sees the wave of fate. She could ever since she defeated the Goddess. "But I do want to learn from you."

.. She found herself in a sealed city in the Himalayas, next. And she reacted instantly to the .. alien. Definitely alien.. throwing a rock at a medium aged man - bald, piercing eyes, and a very strong telepath - and without any thought, she threw a fireball at it, shattering it in midair.

"ANOTHER INTERLOPER." The alien screams.... ".. Wait, why are you dressed like a common domestic slave."

Hitomi looks at the man supremely unimpressed. She could see the waves of fate, and then dodged as Lucifier - so that was the name of this alien - fired his ray gun at her. She could hear the man - Charles Xavier - but she could not, at this time, manage to do more than leave her responses as thoughts.

[Hitomi has been exposed to telepathic and empathic abilities, and now can attempt to learn it.]

Lucifier was.. surprisngly fast. Hitomi hissed as she got hit by a blast. [-140 HP after armor negation], and lashed out with a lightsaber slice that lit up in fire. The two kept playing cat and mouse, but Hitomi eventually succedded, worn out.

And then promptly killed Lucifer, in front of a nearly horrified Charles Xaiver.

"I do not let alien agents who are planning an invasion fester." Hitomi said flatly. "He would also seek to control again, and you are entering a time where you simply do not need more anti-mutant prejudice."

[FATE DISRUPTED. Hitomi has effectively stopped the Quist invasion of Earth.. for now.]

Hitomi was gathering data from the machines before she destroyed what was left. "I'll have to turn this over to SHIELD.. but."

Xaiver looked at her warily. "But?"

"I'm somewhat sure it's.. compromised." Hitomi said, pushing the memories up front for Xaiver to examine.

Xaiver seems more determined. "Then I must create the project anew." The two exchanged contact numbers, although Xaiver seemed sure he wouldn't need it. And she was left deciding what to do.

Yeah, that's because MCU has the potential to run a while. And the next world will.. well, only Babylon 5 is really going to be hi-tech, it's possible to actually not be able to train in a lot of skills.

Yes to the second. The first: it means there's going to be a follow up event (possibly a divergence of the path) in the next turn, i.e "this continues past the interlude very deeply"

World 3: Part 1 Interlude: MCU: Asgard [late 1987]
Hitomi ..was unsurprised but still upset to see herself arrive at Himinbjorg. She felt variously disoriented a second, a side result of the dimensional energy of the Rainbow Bridge.

It was a fascinating sight, but she turned to face Heimdall regardless. The concepts were .. intriguing. She felt it was similar to her Instant Transmission, just more versatile. She doubted she could duplicate it.. right now.

Maybe much later. She seemed to remember a similar rainbow bridge formed between colorful clouds in the void of space...

"You have been summoned here." Heimdall intoned. "By Odin of Asgard."

"... " Hitomi felt she was not going to like this situation. "I see." On Asgard, rather than display only one tail, all five of her tails were visible. She waited patiently for the guard, which was a rather .. brash Thor.

... And very upset Loki. It didn't take a genius to see the dynamics here, and she tried to keep her tongue. Thor was .. well, bragging. Asgard had much to brag about, she'd agree, but the stories all began to revolve around the big fights of being the best warrior.

Halfway through, she could no longer curb her tongue.

"The wise warrior knows when to not fight, Thor, son of Odin." She snapped. "If you overestimate yourself, and underestimate your enemy, what then? Shall you nobly die in a fight you could not have won? Or should you prepare your forces, so that you fight when you are on a better end?"

Thor looked upset, and Loki surprised. Hitomi barrelled over him.

"There are always times you must be prepared to die for your cause." Hitomi knew this better than any. "But - someone always dies when you unsheathe your hammer. You owe it to yourself, your nation, and the concept of being a noble warrior - to make sure it's as few as your people as possible. And, frankly, such zeal as you display is.. easy to manipulate. Restraint is as important as violence. Thinking about it, coming up with a deep strategy and coupling it with heroic might and true courage - that is the pinnacle of being a warrior."

Loki eyed her. "And yet you use magic?"

Hitomi shook her head. "I cultivate my inner might. It is magic, but it is through the mastery and constant improvement of myself that I can do it. I study, for example, as much as possible, because it is only through the cultivation of my mind that I can improve my inner soul. Through improving my inner soul, I can improve my body. Through the three, I can fight to break the chains of fate, to improve the world." Her tone echoed slightly on that phrase.

They were getting odd looks, and Hitomi deflated slightly. "All I say is: consider, Thor, what it means to rush and provoke a fight. What it means to risk not just your death.. but the deaths of those you protect."

Hitomi fell silent for the rest of the walk, with the others as well.

They reached the palace.

Hitomi felt she had a better understanding of what was going on when she reached the throne. The hall was decorated with everything glorifying warriors, but she kept silent. She saw the looks she gathered from the people with a unusually subdued Thor and considering Loki. Personally, she just wanted to know why she was summoned her from Kamar-Taj.

"You do not belong here." Odin said flatly.

"..." Hitomi seemed unimpressed. "I may not. Please tell me you didn't expend that dimensional energy to summon me here just to say that."

"You echo of death. Why are you on Midgard?"

"I was trying to work that out, but I imagine any Maiden of Endings would echo of death." Hitomi had a much more clearer view of the deity that spoke to her between worlds, now. "And if you have a worry, I'd appreciate it if you either tell me what I have to do with it, or why I'm here."

Hitomi could appreciate the power, but had things to do. People to see. She felt being blunt would be preferable to dancing between the issues.

"Could you be from Nilfheim?"

[Quest gained: "Investigate Nilfheim"]

".. My knowledge of Norse mythology is very sparse." Hitomi is flat. "But if they're accurate, that's the world for the non heroically dead? I have never been."

Odin eyes her. "Then why are you here?"

"To make the world a better place." Hitomi says. "To continue to improve myself. To help those unable to help themselves. To oppose evil, wherever it may be found. Don't you have other worries? You, Odin, are a powerful ruler. You must surely see the tide of fate swell into a tsunami."

Odin does not immediately answer, echoing the worry she had mentioned. "I shall send you back. Do not approach Hel, or you shall be killed."
 
World 3: MCU, Part 2: China, late 1988-1989, Washington State, early 1989.
So. Hitomi is actually reaching divine magic rolls now! (mostly in Spellcrafting, which, to be fair advanced techniques and not-cultivation arts are pretty close to divine magic.)

This is the last great training turn, going forward, what she trains will likely be a line vote option and no more than 7 skills per option. (I'm not even sure what Xaiver can teach Hitomi...)

Anyway, the focus determined the extra spell she got, which in this case is a Utility spell.

Note that the encounters Xiaoqiao gets are dependent on steering, although you can't expect a lot of X-Men stuff at this point in time of the MCU. She's slowly making her way over to the US East Coast, after all. Expect some X-Men First Class stuff though soon.

But also note that a lot of the other events will happen no matter what waves she makes. You could say there's a hostile force ensuring they will unless Xiaoqiao severs the fate or does something so altering as to break canon.

(Also, yes, Xiaoqiao as Hitomi is far more.. the harsher side of her domains.)

Hitomi refines the use of Qi, improving it's negation and hardiness. This was done by a new understanding while meditating on the nature of the forests of China.

Hitomi felt she had reached almost instinctive understanding of True Strike, but she was limited somehow from improving it. She meditated on the meaning of it, over a night or two, and came to a realization as to why. She needed to use more of her inner Qi.

The most important bit, to Hitomi, and one she spent time while walking the mountains of the Himalayas to China, was to improve the mastery of herself. But most importantly.. after encountering the sheer psionic power of Professor Xaiver.. she wanted more surety.

By accident, Hitomi was playing with her aura, and noted a peculiarity with it. Traveling across China at the time, she found herself using it by accident on a traveling businessman, who confessed he had been steal to bankrupt a rival and steal their partner. The uproar - well, Hitomi dodged questions, but promptly went to visit the mountain villages for a reason.


Hitomi Actions
Late 1988 - Himalayan Mountains, borderlands Nepal/Tibet

Hitomi was walking down the path, towards the border post. It was a cold night, but she was mostly unaffected. Right now, she was conserving energy and just walking. She was keeping her skills up, and constantly using Status to get used to it.

Because of that, she didn't miss the flicker of movement at the edge of her sight, augmented by Perfect Vision. She drew the bokken without any comment, waiting for the well.. she'd call them gangsters, if she was honest.

And when they attacked, she was.. actually impressed with their Chi arts.. but not enough for her to blow through them, and then tried her new Zone of Truth.. and deeply sighed, finding out how they knew where she was. She spent some time dispelling things, moving their weapons out of the way, then tying them up to a tree and with a quick back and forth with Instant Transmission, let Kamal-Taj know about their spy.

She alerted the border guards, and moved on.

Hitomi was now pretty sure she was supposed to be part Chinese or something on this world. Still, she was doing the tourist thing, and getting some weird looks, since she was half-Japanese. Still, her money spent.

(Hitomi was still being careful about that, since ..well.. )

She saw something peculiar, though. A fox, rampant, glowing for a second. It looked in Hitomi's direction, roared in approval, then disappeared.

.. Peculiar. Hitomi cut her sightseeing short, and moved on. While she could flash-step, she preferred to do it when no one could see her.

What she didn't realize it, is that many saw the fox trampling a hydra, and many things, waking with some trouble at the omen.

January 12th 1989, Remote Village, Hunan Province.

.. This is where she was drawn to? Hitomi didn't get it. But she didn't need to. It didn't take long for her to realize one of the people there, Jiaying, was not human. The two were sorta ignoring each other, for now.

Hitomi did help out, of course, to earn her keep, but -

One night, Jiaying confronted her. "Wouldn't it be better to move on?"

Hitomi shook her head. "I have not yet even realized why I came here."

"...You sound very much like a Taoist."

"I'-" Hitomi suddenly snaps her gaze out, her eyes going hostile, her tails manifesting and shocking Jiaying. "Hostile agents...Probably HYDRA posing as SHIELD. That might explain it."

Jiaying seemed very upset. Hitomi continued. "Get the villagers to safety. I'll handle this."

"They're all armed." Hitomi grins, but there's no joy in it as her tails disappear as she leaves their private spot. "Guns are very clumsy things... if you can, get me a voice recorder and a camera." She blurs, and the sounds of combat erupted.

There were.. quite a few of them. Hitomi wanted to keep them alive enough for questioning, so she was very careful, and let herself take a few hits against her armor and deflected a few with her blade.

This also resulted in them wanting to capture her, but she had made sure they couldn't communicate out.

She dragged them all to a hut, storing their items in her spiritual sea for later indexing and well, cleaning. She did take pictures of their IDs, and various things they had on them, but the agents came to to find themselves tied up.. and Hitomi initiated Zone of Truth, asking them detailed questions, forcing them to discuss everything, including how they knew how to come here.

It was a SHIELD agent - a HYDRA agent - that wasn't with them, and she'd have to chase them down. Or keep them in mind.

Jiaying's face became very blank on hearing this but also, as Hitomi finished recording and then ..killed every one of them, setting their bodies on fire to burn to ash.

"Are you -"

"I am a kitsune." Hitomi calmly responded. "I am not Inhuman. At least, I doubt I am. And now, I have to go to Austria...." She ponders. "It'd be easier if I knew what it looked like.."

Jiaying took a deep breath, and began to describe the headquarters to her. Hitomi nodded, and after placing the vehicles in the spiritual sea and erasing the tracks - essentially any sign any agent had been there - she set off.

After sending the message they expected, anyway. She then disabled all of their devices by storing them in her spiritual sea.

She was going to need that base sooner rather than later, which meant she'd need to be in the United States to look at the previous patents, papers, and resources of a library.

She, her husband, and her daughter, Daisy, watched Hitomi leave.. then made preparations to disappear, themselves. They did leave contact info with Hitomi, though.

And as they left, they reported the thing to the local authorities, who promised to .. well, expel SHIELD agents. That they knew of.

Hitomi noticed several SHIELD Agents, and while she was pretty sure from their aura they were hostile, she also knew that she'd need to wait until the person of interest appeared.

She was rewarded when a plane appeared - score! - and she snuck closer.

She started recording, hoping to hear something useful.. and while she got who both were, she only heard "the Secretary", which.. well, it wasn't proof she could use.

And when the two were led into the Fortress, she decided that the deception's about to be up, and preparing to run, used Matter Conversion to demonstrate why sudden chemical conversion was always dangerous.

... namely, converting three cubic meters of the fortress to FOOF and running like hell after leaving a calling card in the grass just outside the blast radius with precise fire strikes.

The Fortress, and everything around it exploded, excluding the plane, as she had grabbed it. Although it likely would probably be stored in pieces in her spiritual sea, she had actually wanted it's avionics and other components. The second she was in safe range, she teleported to a park she knew well in the edges of Washington State.

Meanwhile..

Director of SHIELD, Peggy Carter, was shown pictures of it.. and something that bothered her, and Nick Fury, the
agent who brought it to her. The calling card was simple. "HYDRA Delenda Est."

Elsewhere, an old man with white hair looked at it in anger. Was it really back?

Was it something about symbols of HYDRA? Was it something else?

Hitomi on another Earth, had watched a drama here. She was glad they had shot on set, because elsewise she'd be.. well, in trouble. Thankfully, not a lot of people camped here in the winter, and she had another problem to solve.

She needed to a) earn money and b) do some research, and c) get something she can use as a temporary base to setup for her actual plan.

And that meant not standing out. HYDRA had to be wary now.

There were two ways to stay hidden - be hidden, or hide in plain sight:

Hitomi spends sometime thinking about what she needs, and came to realization she'd need to experiment to see if she could compress rather than having to worry about storing excess materials. So she did, once she moved to a safer location. It was bear season, and while she wasn't entirely worried, the point was not to draw attention to herself.

She needed life support, sensors, eventually shield generators, communication uplinks, resources - and how she was going to get food there was beyond her - and she was confronted by the list of things she wanted to do. But she needed a place to start plotting and tracking what's going on - and late 1980s tech was.. well, she supposed it was more advanced than it had a right to be, but she would need to rely on the tech of the Old Republic.. and
..then a book popped into her hand. It was written in Aurabesh, but it was how to build what they considered basic tech, and she read it.. only to have it pop into her mind. Weird, why did that happen?

..Oh. Well, she'll need to learn more, but that gave her a starting point..

And a book on dark energy and gravitational magic popped into her hand.. and she devoured that. She had some references to experiment with.. later. But now she understood the Bifrost and Rainbow Bridge much better.

She heard a voice in her head. "Be careful with that, my lady." It was Heimdall. "I feel that you may be the one to save Asgard, but you must never lose sight of where you stand."

The problems here: the MCU doesn't really do a lot of setup pre 2000, so a lot of this is going to seem disconnected. I did .. too much research, and a lot of this is Agents of SHIELD, Inhumans, or Runaways stuff.

There's some reasons for it, but it's.. a lot of "I don't think it'd be wise to tackle the problem of certain things as a vote."
 
Note: Fractional sp and XP from events add next phase to keep things somewhat sane for me to track. I'm going to try and get to it tonight since I will be unavailable to write this weekend (and probably post)

Some notes: The Mountain Stands Alone Against The Wind and Trees replaced Armor of Will (Same function). Techniques rebalanced, and an easter egg one is added. It may get triggered.. it may not.

I think this will work. I'm not sure. does sacrificing 4 AP work for all encounters or just one, and if the latter is true, I would prefer that the Magneto encounter get the bonus.

As for the starship... Is this part of the canon, and if so, what is the story? How long will this option be available?
 
The starship is from Captain Marvel and is available until 1993 Q4.

Note I'm waffling on exactly what you can do or get there, but I want to note it has the Tesseract at this time

ETA:
it's actually a major plot point where they try to find the Tesseract and research before the Kree so it would jump start the base building for Xiaoqiao*. The issue is that it has a bunch of Skulls hiding there and Xiaoqiao can't support them yet. But in mid 1994, they go and rescue them and retrieve the Tesseract. It's part of the ending arc of the movie.
