Karmic potential? Limitless might? You purse your lips as Kyubey stares intently at you. It is throwing around a myriad of concepts and notions you are unfamiliar with; a fact it must already be aware of.
A wish? In your studies, you read many human tales of mortals being granted power beyond their reckoning via wishes, something that usually doomed the hero of the story in the end.
A wish… You wreck your mind for something you desire so badly you would necessitate a wish for. You come up empty.
You are someone who
rules over power. If you so desired, you could bend reality to your will in countless ways in this instant. You already possess considerable strength. Why would you ever need more?
You glance towards where Mami is, and a simple blink reminds you of her… situation. Her soul may shine brightly in the dark, but you know enough about human physiology to discern souls are supposed to be
inside a mortal's body. Not… teleporting around and being tainted by malicious energy.
Is that the price of a miracle? You starkly remember the manner in which you almost came to blows with her over that Grief Seed, and the relief on her expression as darkness was sucked out her very being.
You are no fool.
"No."
Kyubey seems to pause, caught unprepared by your answer. "I see," it says after a moment. "Perhaps my proposal was too sudden for you. I-"
You frown, genuinely angry at the entity now. "Perhaps
you misheard me. I have no need for a wish, Kyubey." You assert in clear-cut terms. "And, I would never accept some nebulous contract from a practical stranger."
"You misunderstand. The 'contract' is not an actual legally binding document, but is only a term that equates the weight of becoming a magical girl. If you would only-"
"I rule over power, Kyubey. Your offer has been duly noted and refused." You examine its reaction carefully, but you fail to see a change in demeanor from your words. "What's more, I am currently taking a break from my duties. I believe humans call it… a vacation?"
There are many issues in which you can only speculate about. Like the Grief Seed's nature and its relationship with magical girls. Or whether Kyubey is responsible for Mami's current state.
Regardless, something you are certain about is that your master would indubitably scold you in your return, were you to have your soul ripped out of your body. Your soul has been tampered with enough for the time being, thank you very much.
"Becoming a magical girl is not in my schedule. My decision is final."
Maybe you were too harsh on the alien, or it could be it is completely innocent and is being blamed for the sins of others, but you can't take that chance. Your well-being is a matter of great importance for you, especially after the events that led you to being like…
this.
Aimless. Drifting and purposeless.
You wish he were here…
A silence descends upon the living room, and you are able to make out the sounds of cooking and sizzling food. You are briefly reminded on your forays into preparing food. You were quite good at it, surprisingly. Well, at least according to Theodore.
Kyubey hops off the table, prompting you back into the present. "That's very unfortunate." It says, rotating in place to glance at you. "It seems even interdimensional beings are governed by emotions. In any case, I have some business to attend to elsewhere. Farewell."
It walks off and out of your sight, teleporting out in its characteristic flicker of magic.
You sigh, dismissing Kyubey from your mind for now. Lingering on its words won't bring you any good; you have already made your decision.
Just as you make to seat yourself once again, Mami's voice calls out from what you think is… a kitchen? Probably. "Dinner's ready!"
After a moment, she comes out with a variety of dishes balanced on her arms, heading straight for the wooden table situated in the center of the room. She smiles at you as she prepares the table for your feast, showing you a pair of strangely ornate wooden sticks. "Do you know how to use these?"
You study the objects in her hand, failing to recognize its purpose from a first glance. "I'm afraid I am not familiar with that item."
Mami shakes her head with a small smile, seemingly writing off the issue. "It's fine. They're called chopsticks; utensils for eating," she says. "I'll fetch something more conventional for you. Please sit. It'll be just a moment."
You bow your head in gratitude. "Thank you."
Doing as she says, you seat at the relatively elaborate dining table, admiring the small if appetizing looking food Mami made in such a short amount of time.
You haven't eaten much human food in your life, and even then, it was only because your brother asked you to taste one of his countless new recipes.
