The Shut-In Cultivator (Isekai Xianxia)

Hopefully when the animals gain human form there will be much cuddling.

I wonder if the hidden master will teach her human student the strongest of all fantasy spells: FIST.

Yeeesh, a pair of obnoxious bitches have popped out of nowhere, polluting the atmosphere.

I've personally never encountered any protagonist-centered morality, but I'm also not a big fan of the genre, so I can't say it isn't present somewhere. Though something on the level of robbing a kind immortal seems utterly evil. I can't imagine how it can be presented in any other way.

There is one xianxia story with an evil protagonist I remember liking — Reverend Insanity. He knows that he's evil and doesn't try to justify or rationalize it in any way, and everyone else also treats him as an evil person (if they manage to find out his true nature). He even got backstabbed by the female lead, though he'd expected for it to happen from the very beginning. It's a tastefully done 'evil MC' xianxia story without any of that self-righteous bullshit, harems (in fact, MC doesn't give a shit about women at all) or any other shitty xianxia tropes, just pure struggle to reach the top by all means neccessary.

Chapter 14
I stayed all day within my house, and my enhanced cultivation speed by just staying within my earth grade abode had netted me with an improvement to all of my skills. Heaven Grade is the next stage after the Earth Grade, and now all of my skills are Heaven Grade.

With the upgrade I got, I immediately realize how weak my formations are. I really wanted to start changing them into something better, but with the stranger outside I can't do it.

Talking about the stranger. I'm only staying in my home because I don't want that spirit to sense me again. Yesterday they kept snooping around the edges of my territory. My knowledge about formations makes me assume that they are checking out my formations, though I don't know what for.

Do they think my formations are bad?

Regardless, they haven't left the edges of my territory. They haven't even slept and just snooped around until morning. I can't really sleep when I can feel their presence within my territory.

I can't just feel them. I can see them now with my own two eyes even without being present. After I achieved the Immortal Star Realm, I can extend my senses anywhere in this world. I can even watch places I don't know if I extend it on a general direction.

But I'm not, because I'm really nervous about these people. Moreso today as they ransacked my herb garden without my permission.

Like who does that?

It's fine. It's only a single section of my ever-expanding herb garden. It doesn't even matter because I have millions of it in my Inventory, and still increasing. Also, any plants that has been planted once within my herb garden will continuously grow even if it has been harvested to oblivion. With the earth grade herb garden, it can grow any plants to maturity for a single day.

So whatever they took is irrelevant.

Though, I don't feel like continuing with my plan to give them some techniques. They still ransacked my herb garden, and even if it can produce plants infinitely, it's still my things they are messing with!

And I don't like that!

I know I am a sorry example of a human being, but that doesn't mean I will just shrug it off like nothing happened. If they are going to be like this, then I might as well kick them out!

... I want to, but I don't know if I'm being reasonable or not if I do that. I have what is potentially an infinite amount of these herbs. Is it really right to kick them out by taking what is too insignificant for me?

I'm so stuck with my own contemplations, that I lost my chance to confront these rude guests. The floating light orb is the one who comes closer to them.

What is Hikari doing, I wonder?

I feel so curious, so I decided to watch.

... But if they try to do something to Hikari, I might just stop holding myself back and kick them out...

Yi Tianzhu gasped in fear as she saw a manifestation of an immortal spirit. The immortal spirit gazed at her coldly. The robes that she wore was akin to a celestial treasure. It was made of something that even her eyes couldn't comprehend.

(Little Zhu, don't be fooled! That one is an Illusory Sun Spirit. It's not a stray soul of an immortal!)

"Illusory Sun Spirit?"

(That's right. An Illusory Sun Spirit is one of the Six Immortal Yang Essence Spirits. It is an incredibly rare essence spirit, and can help with Yang-related cultivation techniques if the cultivator tries to tame it.)

"... So it's not useful?" Yi Tianzhu slowly got her calm back after the words of her ancestor.

"Hey! How dare you steal on my Master's Herb Garden!? Are you courting death!?" Their conversation was interrupted by the essence spirit.

(Silence! You're just a Nascent Soul Demon Beast! Do you dare fight me?)

Tianzhu was a bit anxious as she heard her ancestor simply rebuked the spirit. She also felt like they might have gone too far.

"How daring! Paying our Master's generosity with dirt? I, Hie Qui, will not allow this evil to continue!"

Despite what her great great grandmother told her, the illusionary vision of an immortal gazing tempestuously at her made her tense up.

'Is it really alright that we did this?' She felt a bit of doubt on their decision, before she quickly shook her head. 'No, my ancestor is always right! If she can't feel that Mahayana Expert on this place, then that means that expert is gone. This is my chance to secretly get a lot of resources!'

She reasoned within herself. Her ancestor had always put it in her mind that she had to take every opportunity, even if it caused the enmity of others. If she was meek and simply waited for others to allow her to do something, she wouldn't be getting far on her journey to immortality.

They defy the heavens. Only mortals followed common decency because they don't have the strength. Her ancestor always told her to be more proud and domineering to others, because it was the right way to be a cultivator. Doing otherwise was just idiocy.

(Little Zhu! We can't let this spirit go! I'll help you deal with it!)

They have been seen, so Tianzhu got the logic behind it. If the Mahayana Expert found out about her ransacking her herb garden, then she would surely be in trouble. She had to take care of it now, and hide that fact from that Mahayana Expert.

'This is fine! I've done this a lot! I just destroy the spirit while my Master create an array to silence it!'

Even if it was stronger than her, it was still a Nascent Soul Cultivator. Her ancestor, while weakened, was comparable to a peak 9th Mahayana Stage Cultivator. She didn't have to give an effort on killing something like this one.

So they decided to move. She took a single step, as she felt her ancestor form a Dao Spell with her humongous reserves of Qi essence.

It only took a single second, and the light spirit was also prepared to meet their attack head-on, when everything stopped.

(What!?)

'What!?'

She internally screamed, at the same time her ancestor exclaimed as she felt the whole world froze around her. Her consciousness was still there, but her whole body was stuck on her position, like a still painting. Despite her efforts, she couldn't move a muscle on her body.

(No... how!?)

'What is it!?' She screamed in her mind, confused and fearful why her grandmother sounded so shocked.

(Impossible... this couldn't be...!)

'What is it!?!?'

Her confusion was soon answered as the illusionary image of an immortal stepped back. After that, she saw it. A figure so beautiful despite their peculiar outfit that hid their features. Their figure alone could rival goddesses and fairies.

Though, that wasn't what made this person terrifying. No, it was the absurd amount of unknown Qi that came out of her body.

(What is an Immortal doing in this tiny world!?)

Her ancestor shouted. Her words finally revealing to her mind just why her ancestor was shook.

'An immortal!?'

Despite not being able to see the eyes of the eminent immortal beneath her pink rabbit hoodie, she could imagine her looking down on her like an insect. She couldn't even complain because for an Immortal, she was just an insect.

"..." The mysterious Immortal simply stared at them.

The pressure she exuded was too much that everything couldn't move. Even air itself seemed to have frozen, along with every parts of her limbs that she was stuck on this position.

(... No, I won't let you touch my descendant!)

She trembled, unwilling as she felt like the immortal might just kill her.

'Maybe we should just apologize?' She thought, but she knew her ancestor wouldn't do it.

The hooded Immortal simply stared at them. Then after that, she took a single step forward.

Tianzhu and Sushang were both spook. All the hair on her body stood up in chill.

(... Do you really dare to do this? I won't go down without fighting! Do you want to notify the Heavens of your presence!?)

The girl didn't care. She took another step forward.

(Aren't you scared!? You will be hit by a Heavenly Tribulation if the Heavens noticed your presence! Are you so arrogant that your willing to risk it!)

"Shut up."

The words that left the Immortal was incredibly soft, and it wasn't even a shout. Though the words resounded deep within their soul. It felt like she spoke directly to their very core.

"Leave my place." She simply said as she took another step forward, until she was so close to her face.

She could finally see her face beneath that hood, and Tianzhu quickly regretted it. It was a cold gaze so deep that it felt like the Immortal was looking at trash. She felt so incredibly small and pathetic.

(You dare!?)

Her ancestor wasn't that scared. Yi Tianzhu knew that her grandmother lacked fear against the Heavens. She was proud of it, and wanted her to learn it too as it would help her rise from the Heavens.

So she also knew what's the next action of her ancestor.

'No, stop!'

As her ancestor doesn't like to submit to anyone, she would defy them even if they were stronger than her. It doesn't matter even if she died.

And Tianzhu couldn't afford that. It was her ancestor who helped her on her life as a Cultivator. She was also the only one remaining on her family.

She couldn't afford to let her ancestor die because of this.

'MOVE! I SAID MOVE!' She tried to force every nerves of her body to move.

Though not even a single inch of her body moved. It was frozen simply because of the overwhelming pressure of the Immortal's presence.

She felt the spell taking form from her jade slip. She couldn't stop her ancestor no more.

(I won't let you touch my descendant. Taste my killing spell, Karmic Severanc--)

"[Counterspell]"

(--what!?)

A great immortal spell was formed, but it was quickly repelled by the simple utterance of the hooded Immortal. The spell array that formed on her jade slip shattered like glasses, and she could hear the shocked and disbelief of her grandmother.

Without waiting for them to recover from their shock, the mysterious cultivator reached out to her.

'It's over!' She closed her eyes.

Her ancestor couldn't do anything, and everything she tried failed. She couldn't even move her body, and her life-saving treasures weren't responding to this threat. It only meant one thing.

This Immortal was too strong for them!

'Is this the end of my path?'

She wondered to herself, her mind whirled anxiously with all the worst case scenario. Then she felt the rather gentle grasp on her shoulder. She didn't dare open her eyes as she felt that hand just gripped her as she was being forcefully pulled somewhere.

It only took a few minutes of her imagining a lot of horrible things, and her ancestor who was still muted with shock until the feeling of weight on her shoulder vanished.

".... Huh...?" She slowly opened her eyes, and saw herself in a forest. "What...?"

(How dare she!? Bullying your juniors like this!? Where is the law? Is there still something right in this world!?)

Her grandmother ranted angrily. It was a humiliation of the greatest degree. The Immortal didn't even see fit to punish her.

"... What...?" She let out once again, incredibly confused.

It took a few moments before she finally realized that she was outside the secret territory of the hidden expert. It also took her awhile to noticed the plaque stabbed on the ground just a single meter in front of her.

"Yi Tianzhu is not allowed to enter this place."

That's what was written on the plaque.

(So arrogant! Come on Little Zhu, there is no need to waste our time on this place! The Heavens will surely take care of this problem!) Her grandmother shouted.

"Uh..." She was unsure whether it was fine to antagonize the hidden expert that much, even if they were outside their territory.

Though it seemed like her ancestor noticed it.

(Stop thinking about useless things Little Zhu. Sooner or later, you will reach that strength! You have to avenge us from this humiliation when that time comes!)

Yi Tianzhu was a bit doubtful, but if it was what her grandmother said, then she thought she might be right.

".... Yes, Grand Ancestor Sushang! This Little Zhu will do her best!"

Even as she said so, her heart felt a bit unsure.

'... Is this really the path I want to walk on?' She wondered to herself as she slowly left the territory.

Hello, and here is the next chapter.

I know... the direction of this chapter went completely different than what I originally planned on this. I can't really continue with my original plan because it will look very uncharacteristic for Xiu Bai to just let them be when they kept trying to do their own selfish thing as if it was the right thing.

My original plan is for Xiu Bai to give them a book about formations, while she ignores how they try to ransack and take almost everything on her territory, thinking that she is gone when in fact, she is just staying at her home and watching them.

She have infinite amounts of them, so I originally want her to not bother herself so much about it.

But then I think that might just make the story bad, and Xiu Bai will become the most pathetic MC if she just let strangers just go and steal anything in her home.

But I don't want her to be violent when confronting them, so I got stuck on that part, and I lose my motivation as I can't think of anything how I can continue the story without throwing the new visitors away.

Then five days ago, I have an epiphany.

I might as well just throw them anyway because I can't continue the story with their presence. I want to proceed with the plot.

I originally wanted to finish this on Christmas, but I got late because I got busy preparing a lot of things for our Christmas celebration. That's why I can only make the chapter right now...

So... uh... it might be late... but Merry Christmas everyone!~♪

Hope you like the chapter!~♪

P.S. This doesn't mean Yi Tianzhu will become a nonentity in this story. She will come back, but it won't be because she is going to look for revenge. I already have a plan for that... well, I hope I somehow managed to pull it off...

Oh good. I was afraid our protagonist despite not liking what they were doing would continue to be a doormat for fear of actually facing them. I do somewhat wish that ancestor got a smack at least since she is totally going to lead her descendant down a terrible path.

Merry Christmas to you too.

Wow, the brat was actually having second and triple thoughts to the point of completely disregarding Filial Piety towards her ancestor because of just how fucking insanely unhinged she was acting. That's impressive. She's backsliding into a more sane/sensible MC due to how unhinged and insane her ancestor is... which is usually the opposite of what happens in these types of situations!

Even if she comes back though, the arrays and barriers are heaven-ranked and rated to kick out immortals, let alone her. She is not getting back in, and if her ancestor is anything to go by, their lifespan is measured in months at most since that remnant soul is running on fumes now and getting increasingly unhinged due to it I assume.

But yeah, they crossed the line so hard there's no possibility for forgiveness about that. They tried to kill one of her pets, that's basically the nuclear option for someone like her.

Why couldn't we have another one like sword-boy? He was genuinely a good kid trying his best. Even if he wanted revenge, he still tried his best to be polite and a good guest. He was respectful and quite genuine with meaning pretty much exactly what he said at all times when he was around. I think he's the "Honestly just a good guy" MC-type looking back on it now. To be fair, he was doing it in this world's style, which is incredibly uncomfortable and disconcerting for our MC due to a cultural values dissonance, which I think she was self-aware of, or at least definitely will be when her pupper eventually transforms into a wolf-girl and is able to act as a translator for that sorta thing.

I do like how what made her interfere was them attacking one of her pets. disapointed that they didn't have a greater punishment for doing so though. (Even if it was like being put in timeout for a while. in a place they can't cultivate with only books about being nice for entertainment).

Also eventually looking forward for the Cooking misunderstanding to eventually clear up. (even if it would make her feel bad, since she essentually fed someone potential poison from the amount of qi in the food (either you get the benefits or ya get really injured)). Will probably be either from her pet getting a human form/Human communication. Or her raw produce that she gives guests gets so High quality that someone will eventually go "forgive me, I cannot eat this for it is to strong for this lowly one, magnificent immortal"

I would have added reasons for her blacklisting on the plaque, like for the crime of theft from the herb garden, animal theft, being a bad guest, attacking the host, etc etc

I actually really like that the "actually just a nice guy" MC is going to be coming back. He feels like someone who has the potential to become a very loyal and good friend.

It will be funny when she gives someone an apple or something and they almost die from how high quality it is. Hopefully she realizes that it's her food being too good and not people disliking it at that point.

So it looks like the girl still has a core of decency, she just keeps trying to live up to the expectations of her ancestor who was once a goddess... And got that way by trampling on everyone and being a massive prick. Really she only seems to help the girl, if that can be called help, because she is a blood descendant.

She seems to naturally be like Hinata from Naruto in temperament, but pretends to be Sasuke because her ancestor is telling her that this is how she must be. With her just trying to live up to her expectations...

I mean she is like a number of characters who act a certain way, but don't actually like how they act. Only acting like it because they don't want to fail there loved one/ones.

Like the girl from Bofuri who is known as the Flame Emperor, acting tough and decisive, but is actually a cinnamon roll/marshmallow who just wants to cuddle kitties...

Thank you for the chapter!

I wonder what will happen now that she can observe things at a distance? Could she cast spells and defend people she likes from the safety of her home as well? Literal divine intervention!

Chapter 15
After I kicked out those rude visitors who attempted to hurt Hikari, I finally got back to my peaceful day.

It has been three days now, and I haven't met anything troublesome lately!

I can cook for my own. I also cook for my pets whenever Pochi comes along with it's friends. I also go around and do whatever I want. It's been a really great time for me!

Oh, I didn't forget about the important stuff.

On the day I kicked out those rude guests, I made sure that they are gone first before I dismantle all of the formations I set around my territory, and then replaced it with the Heaven Grade and formations.

I finally learned my mistake when designing my barriers. Putting an anti-flight barrier will just cause flying beings to smack straight into my territory. That is why I remove it.

In exchange, I made a total repellant zone where every beings I haven't invited will be pushed away from my territory. It's pretty easy with my Heaven Grade Formations.

Now I have a barrier to deny entry in my place, a barrier to teleport them somewhere on this forest, and then a barrier to physically push them away. Just to be sure, I made it so the area of effect of this formation will reach as high as the skies. I also turned it into a spherical-shaped barrier so no one can enter from the underground or through the skies.

Now my peace is guaranteed!

Currently, after I'm done writing a novel that I have no plan to publish on the public, I take a sit and use my divine sense to probe around the world.

I am still at the 4th Immortal Star Realm. I'm stocking up on my peak grade spirit stones until I got enough to raise my level to the 9th Immortal Star Realm in one go.

Anyway, being a cultivator from the Immortal Star gives me the capability to watch distant places. Without those rude guests that will just ransack anything in my home, I can leisurely watch distant places without any worry.

Currently, I'm only surveying the whole forest where I'm located. This is my second time doing this. The first time I did it is from yesterday after I got bored drawing stuff.

Most of the things I've seen are terrifying monsters, and some wolves that looks more ferocious than my Pochi. There are also caves, some ruined huts, and even a few mysterious sites that might have some religious connotations to them.

I don't know... they have a lot of incomplete symbols that I can complete with my Heaven Grade Array Skills, but it's pretty far and I don't plan to leave my territory, so I can only watch it.

Today, I want to move my senses further from my territory. My divine senses helps me see distant things, but it doesn't include the sound. So it is like watching a silent documentary film.

It's still fun though. I don't have any internet to spend my time with. This is like watching a TV, which is a good activity to kill some time. So I am glad to get this divine senses.

"... Hm?"

W-wait, what is that!?

My casual probing of the distant places within this forest stops when I noticed two unconscious children. One of them is a boy and one is a girl. Both have white hair, and unlike most people I saw walking in this forest which are fair skinned (even the males), these two have a brownish tinge on the color of their skin. Also, there are small horns protruding on each corner of their forehead.

Children. Unconscious in a forest. A forest that is filled with monsters. Monsters that will eat helpless children like them!?

"No way!"

I tried to calculate the distance between me and those children, and I'm surprised when I quickly realized that they are pretty near.

... Okay, they are far. They are more than a hundred li away from me.

But that kind of distance, I discovered, is incredibly short for me. My movement speed is so busted even I am surprised.

And based on that creepy ghost on the jade slip, there might be other people at the Immortal Star like me. Which means people who can achieved this superhuman feats like it is nothing.

This world is sounding more ridiculous than ever as time passes!

... Okay, I am getting distracted.

The distance between me and the children isn't a problem for me. In fact, I don't even have to run my way to get there.

I am a spellcaster. I learned a very helpful Dao Spell that will take me anywhere in this world.

"[Gate]"

That is right. It's one of those popular tabletop RPG spell that is high tier. The Gate Spell. The spell that creates a portal that is connected on another part of the world, or depending on the type of game, is capable of connecting to another plane of existence.

I tried learning it, and the system gives me that result. So now I learned it, and then I can use that Dao Spell now.

The range of the spell exceeds a hundred million li. So this distance is not an issue.

With the portal opening, and checking with my senses whether some being is hiding or something, I finally reach out to the two unconscious children and then carry them back to my house. Of course I ended the spell after I got them back to my territory.

As I am inside my room when I made the Gate Spell, I am pretty near my bed. I put the two children on the bed and checked up on their health.

Hmm... nothing serious is happening to them. They are simply exhausted and hungry.

There are some bruises on their body, but all of it can easily be healed with my healing Dao Spells.

... Ah, I just realized that I picked two random strangers in my house...

Well, it can't be helped. These are children! I can't just ignore two unconscious children! Mostly because they are in the middle of a dangerous environment!

... Am I going to be forced to find their parents?

Right. I have to do it. I'm sure they have parents that are looking for them.

For now, I have to take care of them. Unlike people of my age, I don't mind talking to children. They are a lot easier to talk to than the adults.

... I just hope these two aren't the same as that last guest...

"Mama... please come with us! Mama!"

"I can't... I've been mortally wounded...."

"No! No!"

"Ssshh! Don't speak so loudly... just leave me alone, my dear Hanyu."

"B-but why? I won't leave you!"

"No! Please! Escape from this place along with your sister!"

"B-but..."

"If you don't leave soon, those hunters will catch you!"

His mother's golden eyes stared directly at him. Despite her pale and pitiful appearance, her gaze was full of radiant hope. Even the bloodied torso she had was ignored by the sheer amount of worry she directed to him.

"I'm already old, so I'm prepared for it. But you two are my precious children... I won't let these bastards turn you into their slaves!"

"Mama!" He tried to reject her wishes, but his mother simply held her gaze at him.

"Please..."

He could hear his sister crying behind him, and even him had his vision blurry with tears. His mother pleaded for him to leave, the abandon their only parent left.

He wanted to hold onto his mother more, but they heard the aggressive sounds of footsteps quickly getting closer.

"Please... just go pass that forest... and protect your sister, Hanyu!"

He couldn't stop the sobs that escaped his face, his tears flowed aggressively as he was forced to abandon his mother.

As it was his mother's last wish, he finally relented and held the hand of his sister. He heard the gasp of his sister, and seemed to try to get out of his hold. But he held her tighter as he tried to pull her away and led her to the forest.

"No! Mama is still hurting there! Mama!"

He didn't turn back. He simply pulled his sister to his side as they tried to run away.

It only took a short while before her sister stopped resisting. Both of them ran away. Not a single word escaped their lips, only stifled sobs.

Ji Hanyu, the son of a human and a transformed demon beast, ran together with his sister. They left their mother, who protected them even at her last breathe. Stopping the Cultivators who desired the blood that flowed on their veins.

He stifled his sobs, and held his anger, though his mind was filled with sorrow and hatred.

'Those people! I swear I will come back and destroy all of you!'

He slowly opened his eyes, surprised when he saw an unfamiliar ceiling.

"Huh!?"

It only took him a split second before he immediately sat up, and then winced. The bruise he got from the Foundation Establishment Beast that they encountered still stung. He held his waist while he gritted his teeth for a moment.

"Where am I?" He muttered to himself, not expecting someone to reply to him.

"Uh... good afternoon?"

Then he flinched as he heard an unfamiliar soft voice. He turned his attention to the direction of that voice, and found a girl... no, a fairy whose beauty rivalled even the goddesses. He gawked in surprise.

Then he quickly shook his head as he recalled what had happened. He tensed up as he glared at her, his hand moving behind and grasped the nearest thing he could get.

"Don't get closer to me! I will fight you!" He growled as he clutched the pillow he laid a short while ago.

"Eeep!" The beautiful fairy suddenly vanished, as if she was startled.

That was how his first meeting with Xiu Bai went.

Short chapter for now. I will be sleeping now, thank you for reading!~♪

I like his spunk! He's taking no chances since he has slavers hunting him and more importantly, his sister. Once he calms down a bit it should get better, but this is a recently traumatized child who just lost his mother(I assume she's dead and not enslaved, or the MC is gonna have to fetch her REALLY fast cause Xianxia worlds are nasty places), so a bit a leeway is expected.

I like that even with all her social problems, she didn't even hesitate to save some clearly endangered children. She's still super scared of confrontation, but they're children and she's a good person(practically a living saint for this setting), so saving children is an instinctive response for the most part I assume.

Wonder what the pets are gonna think about her new wards(as in children, not the formations)?

"Mama... please come with us! Mama!"

"I can't... I've been mortally wounded...."
I don't know why, but this interaction cracked me up hard.

Like:
"Hey, Johny, we're gonna party tonight! You with us?"
"I can't…"
"Why?"
"I've been eaten by a grizzly…"

I imagine after they ran away, she just got up, wiped the ketchup from her clothes and went about her day like nothing happened.

So, something like this?

tvtropes.org

Narm - TV Tropes

Narm is a moment that is supposed to be serious, but due to either over-sappiness, poor execution, excessive Melodrama, unneeded use of foul language, or the sheer absurdity of the situation, the drama is lost to the point of surpassing "cheesy" …

I wonder if she'll get better at talking to people by raising children?... probably not.

That said as with everything Level Gap writes this too is amazing.

I wonder how strong those children will become living there, will they even want to leave? Or maybe they'll be given permission to come back?

Can she fire spells through those gates? Such as healing spells, enhancement spells or offensive/defensive spells?

Thank you for the chapter!

What happened in Chapter 14:

Yi Sushang's POV
MC: "You are not worth the effort of punishing you, nor even getting angry with you. After all, why would I get angry with a fly that got into my home? When I can just make you... Go."
YS: "Curse you a thousand years for this deliberate humiliation! I will have my vengeance, even if it's the last thing I do!"

MC's POV
MC: "Well, that was awkward... So uncomfortable! Hopefully my face gave nothing away. At least those guests won't be coming back! Now I can relax, maybe draw or write something..."

Chapter 16
I didn't know what I did wrong, but the young boy was angry at me.

I left them be for now. If they were scared of strangers, then I should give them space until they calm down.

For now, I have to prepare something for them. My cooking might not be good, but they need something to eat right now. I can't just give them fruits for their sustenance. They are growing children!

They need all the nutrition they can get so they grow up properly!

So, even if my cooking skill is not up to par, I decided to make something nutritious for them. My Heaven Grade Cooking is telling me that some of the plants my essence clones plants on my Herb Garden are full of nutrients suitable for mortals and cultivators alike. So I think I will make a salad for now.

I don't have an egg, so I can't make a mayonnaise or some blend to increase the quality of the salad, but it is fine. Fresh salad is also good too.

"... Hmm... I really want an egg, and some milk too..." I can't help but mutter that to myself.

I heard the sound of rustling besides the window, but I didn't bother to look at it. I know Kuro is there perch on the railings of the window. I can feel it's gaze, before I felt it's presence leave the window along with the sound of feathers fluttering.

The salad will be the appetizer. The main course will be hainanese rice, and a variety of fish dishes as a pair.

I got what I think is the version of rice in this fantasy chinaland. It is called Dew Leaf Grain.

(Dew Leaf Grain)

Grains from the Crystal Dew Stalk. The crystal-like appearance, and it's brittle texture was mesmerizing, and it could help with gaining insights on water & nature element cultivation.

The flavor text makes it look like a legendary plant, and it might be a rare type of wheat, but it is still wheat that has evolved on my Herb Garden. It's the improved version of Middle-sized Grain Rice, which was the evolution for common forest grass endemic to this forest.

As my cheat ability stated, everything I planted on my Herb Garden will improve overtime. Now I have different types of wheat and grain plants because of the common forest grasses that my clones harvested and put in my garden.

Really... it's that magical!

The grains looks pretty. They are like small purple amethysts. Though they turn into pinkish hue after I cooked them perfectly.

As for the fishes, it's all improved fishes too. They've thrived on my Fish Pond, which looked like a sea no matter how I looked at it. If my senses can be believed, I think it's as deep as a natural sea, and it's length is a few tens of thousands of li.

Really... and it's just an Earth Grade Fish Pond. What will happen if it reaches Heaven Grade?

Anyway, because of the improvements of my garden and my fish pond, I don't have a lot of complaints even if I lack the crucial components for cooking like egg and milk. They can be replaced with something else.

... I still hope I can find those...

Ji Hanyu looked around the place cautiously. His body was tense as he sat together with his sister. Since he had woken and scared the stranger away from them, he had been nudging his sister to wake up.

It only took a moment before Ji Xiuhan opened her eyes. Her crimson eyes full of light on the past now held a dim of hopelessness within it. The girl listlessly sat up, and then glanced apathetically on her brother.

Ji Hanyu pursed his lips at the state of his sister. Since that fateful and horrible day, his sister lost much of her emotions. She was barely responsive to him, and was silent most of the time.

'Those bastards... I will destroy them!' His face was dark as those grim thoughts coursed in his mind.

"... Where?" He perked up when his sister glanced around the place calmly.

He quickly explained to her what he knew, which wasn't much. All he knew was that they fell unconscious in the middle of the Desolate Woods due to hunger, and then they woke up laid on this bed. He told her about the woman whom he had already scared away.

"Don't worry, I scared her away. Now we can escape!"

His sister stared at him for a moment, processing the words he told her. He tilted his head when, after a short while, her stare turned a bit narrower. As if her hopeless stare turned into a deadpan.

Then she moved. Before he realized it, he felt an iron grip on both of his cheeks. It stings.

"Bad!" Despite the monotonous voice she uttered those words, he immediately felt the anger she wanted to convey.

"W-why!?" He whined, unable to defy his sister's cheek pinching.

His sister didn't respond more and kept pinching his cheek. He felt like crying.

'What did I do!?' He screamed internally.

It only took a few minutes before Ji Xiuhan stopped. Then she left the bed with a hop, and uttered an outrageous word.

"Apologize..."

'What for?' He thought. "What? What apologize?"

"Apologize."

He was incredibly confused. "Ah.... sorry...?"

"Not me. The person you scared..."

He finally realized what she was referring to. He frowned.

"No way!"

Her cold and emotionless stare made him flinch. Her glare didn't leave his figure, only staring at him like a doll. He felt unnerved.

"... Alright, fine..." He let out a sigh after he realized that his sister will pursue this matter.

He couldn't understand why he had to apologize to a potential hostile person. He couldn't afford to trust a stranger.

Though when he noticed a gradual relaxation of his sister's body, he thinks he just had to do it.

As if fate itself dictated it, after their brief conversation they heard the sound of footstep getting closer. It was soft, but felt like the person who caused the sound of these footsteps was deliberately doing it so they would know of their presence.

The two tensed up, and even his sister who was stern to him a short while ago hid behind him. It was an unconscious action that she did, trying to hide as much of her body behind him, while her brother face the only door to enter this room.

Then they heard the footstep stopped, before a soft yet audible knocking rhythmically sounded beyond the door.

"Good afternoon... uh, can I enter?" The voice sounded pretty charming, and the unsure and gentle tone of the mysterious voice lessen their wariness towards the unknown stranger.

"... Yes." He answered after a moment of silence. A small thought on his mind wondered why the stranger who most likely owned this luxurious home asked for their permission.

With his words, he thought he might have hallucinated a sound akin to a sigh beyond the door. He tilted his head when he noticed that whoever was behind the door still haven't tried to slide it.

Though it was only several seconds, but it was still curious to him. When the door did open, his eyes lit up in recognition as he saw that beautiful goddess once more in a peculiar outfit. The hoodie that should have covered her face was currently down on her nape, which showed the beautiful black locks and strings of her obsidian hair, and reveal the appearance of a jade beauty.

"Pretty..." He heard Ji Xiuhan muttered.

Ji Hanyu gulped for a moment as another thing tickled his senses. It was a smell of something delightful as the beautiful fairy who opened the door pulled something besides her.

It revealed itself to be a tray filled with a variety of meal.

"Sorry... this might not be much, but I hope you find this palatable..." The fairy sounded unsure. The way she intoned her words felt so easy to the ears that it radiated her uneasy feelings through those words alone.

They gazed at the array of meal that had been prepared for them, and gasped in surprise as they saw it shined like gold. Their youthful crimson eyes peered through the light of treasure, and found a most delectable meal.

The arrangement of toppings above the mountain of pinkish rice felt masterful as if it was like an art. Even the alignment of fishes and the color of the soup on the side further enhanced the visuals of the meal.

The salad gave an impression that it looked so fresh and delectable. The way it glistened in the light, and it's vibrant colors made it lively.

There were other meals prepared for them, but those salad and arrangement of rice and fishes seemed to be the main focus on their eyes.

The two of them haven't noticed their jaws were slackened, and a bit of drool was slowly forming on the side of their lips. It only took a moment before Ji Hanyu got out of his stupor.

"... Ah..." He was unsure whether he could eat these or not. They looked like they were work of arts to his mind, even if he didn't have proper knowledge about arts at all.

It just gave an impression that it was magical despite being just an array of meals.

'Is this Heaven...?' He quickly shook his head. 'Stop it. I have to focus!'

He turned his gaze at the beautiful fairy who now helpfully prepared a table out of nowhere. He felt a bit of a shudder when he saw that feat alone.

'I should have expected it. Of course she's a Cultivator!' He screamed internally.

Her beauty couldn't be matched by any mortal women. The only explanation was that this girl was an immortal.

It didn't give him reassurance, but rather he became extremely wary.

It was natural. A group of Cultivators were hunting their kind for their blood. Even if he couldn't understand it fully, his Mother had explained it as much.

He became tense once more, and while his thought goes to repeating what he did awhile ago, which was scaring her, his body demonstrated otherwise.

A growl resounded on his stomach, and he heard another one from his sister.

They were hungry. He just noticed the pang of pain from his intestines when he finally recalled that.

The fairy didn't seem to notice his predicament, or if she did, she didn't mention anything about it as she finished up the preparations.

"Uh... here are your seats... hope you enjoy..." Even though she sounded polite, there was an obvious sense of shyness with her speech.

The two wondered why it is, but they couldn't think straight for now. Their mind was focused on the palatable meal that was in front of them.

Ji Hanyu blinked his eyes, and noticed that he had been sitting right now. He realized that his body moved automatically to prepare for his meal. Even his sister sits at the same time as him.

"Please enjoy..." The girl said.

He was still a bit hesitant. His hand felt a bit sweaty as he tried to hold himself back. He still didn't know whether the food was actually good or not. He wanted to discern whether this Cultivator had any bad intention towards them. Though it was hard, as he salivated at the sight of these meal.

'N-no... I can hold my hunger! I have to know what she wants from us!'

Just as he was thinking that...

"Delicious." His musing was snapped and then he quickly turned to his side. He saw his sister already munching on a bowl of salad, her eyes twinkling in excitement.

"Xiuhan??" He was baffled.

Familial instincts quickly forced him to move to her side unconsciously, his mind now whirling as he felt incredibly worried.

"What?" His sister glanced at him with a tilt of her head, confusion evident on her impassive face.

"A-are you alright? Do you feel something!?"

He don't know. He was still unsure whether something bad was within the food or not.

'This Cultivator might have put a poison on it!'

He already thought of something worse, like a poison that would force them to sleep eternally, or something that would give them a bad case of stomachache.

Ji Xiuhan simply frowned at how he was acting.

Noticing that, he let out a soft cough.

"It's fine... don't force yourself if you didn't like it..."

His heart shook, surprised when he heard the obvious hurt beneath the voice of the female Cultivator. He felt the stare of his sister growing colder.

"I..." He felt like a jerk.

"No. It's delicious." It was Ji Xiuhan who spoke for him. "Thank you..."

He turned his gaze at the fairy and saw an obvious change on her expression. Awhile ago, she had this expression that was akin to a shy rabbit, but now her eyes brightened at the compliment, and her slouched posture rose for a bit.

"That's great. I'm glad you like it."

Despite her smile not being directed at him, that smile increased her beauty by a lot. It's like the world turned brighter just by her smile alone.

He couldn't help but stare at her, before he let out a cough and grumbled under his breathe.

'No way... my Mother is much more beautiful than this fairy!' He calmed his heart with this thought.

"Brother Hanyu. Eat."

Ji Hanyu perked up, being called by his sister like that. He glanced back at the meal prepared for him. He was a bit hesitant, though as he couldn't feel a lick of maliciousness from their host, that wariness lessened.

"Ugh... Fine!" He wondered why his sister seemed strangely talkative right now.

He noticed that after he got back to his seat, Ji Xiuhan quickly returned to her meal. She feasted on it silently, but with gusto. He knew his sister. She wasn't this voracious whenever they had lunch or dinner.

He could feel the gaze of their host behind him. It was very intense. As if she was trying to gauge his reaction or something.

He took his chopstick and decided to taste the fresh green leaves on the salad. With a single bite, his eyes widened.

"What the...!?"

Power coursed through his veins. A sense of warmth filled his whole body as a mysterious energy gathered around his body. The essence of the leaves seemed to have been absorbed directly to his dantian.

'Woah... what is...!?'

He felt a gaze besides him and turned. Ji Xiuhan watched him patiently. Then she nodded to him.

He finally understood after that gesture.

'It's an opportunity!'

He heard of Cultivators from his mother as they live on the rural village. Everyone was destined for something, and Cultivators were people who walked that path regardless of how dangerous it was.

They knew their mother was a former Demon Beast. Through the transformation tribulation, she transformed into a human in exchange of her cultivation. She had done this due to her love for their father, and as she had done it hastily, she lost all of her cultivation.

Though, as she had been a Demon Beast, which could be technically be considered Cultivators, she also sought fortuitous encounters before she fell in love. Their mother always told them that if they decided to walk the path of immortality, they had to grasped every opportunity that fell on their lap.

Since the day their mother died, Ji Hanyu swore that he would take revenge. The only path he considered to achieve that is becoming a cultivator.

Though he was still a mortal, when he ate this meal, his demonic bloodline that slumbered for long stirred. His body felt flushed as he sweated, his breathing turned into wispy smoke. It was an indication that he was releasing his impurities.

'Amazing... so it was why...?'

Now he finally realized why his sister urged him to eat. The meal would help them in their cultivation.

"... Ah..." The voice of the fairy pulled him away from his stupor. He looked at her direction and saw her now sat on the bed as she watched them. "Do you like it?"

He still don't feel like talking to her that much, but knew it would be rude if he doesn't respond. The girl hadn't shown any hostile gestures at them. So he thought it might be fine to stop with his aggression.

"... Yes. It's just fine..." So he muttered, but that was enough for the girl it seemed.

He returned his attention back to his meal, and then started eating. Absorbing the pure essence it contained, and awakening his potential as a Cultivator.

'... If this beautiful lady is willing to help us, then I have to grab this opportunity and become a cultivator!' His eyes held a fire of ambition.

He had decided. They would stay here, and learn everything he could learn, rising his power until he had enough to fight against those cultivators.

And so, just like his sister, he ate with gusto. Though unlike his sister who ate neatly and quietly, he was more of a messy eater.

Both siblings were unaware that it was impossible for a human to do what they were doing. Eating high quality cultivation resources as if they were drinking water wasn't a viable way of rising their strength, and would cripple them normally as their Qi container would be overwhelmed, along with their cultivation roots and veins.

It was only possible because of their demonic bloodline. Demon beasts thrived at the consumption of their kin, taking their essence and absorbing it as their own. It was a natural response of their body. So even without the knowledge for Cultivation, Demon Beast can rise to the top.

And the two, who were a perfect mix of Demon Beast and Human bloodline, were perfect for both methods of Cultivation. The excess amount of pure essence that these meal contained were quickly converted into a bulk of power for their demonic heritage.

Thus, when they finished eating, they would quickly rise to the higher stages of Foundation Establishment.

Of course their host noticed the changes in their body, but doesn't saw anything weird as it was a very small change to her eyes.

Sorry for the long delay. Here is the next chapter...

So, I actually got stuck on this chapter. I don't know how I will continue this these children, as they weren't fleshed out when I wrote about them.

I also got sick, so I am unable to update this story for sometime, and when I did get back to writing this yesterday, almost every idea I have last year was gone.

So... yeah... I think it will be harder for me to update this one. I might even go to a hiatus again...

Sorry everyone...

Try switching to a slice of life sort of thing maybe? No actual progression but rather just have the MC be a cultivator mommy who teachea the most elusive skill a cultivator could ever possess!

Common sense.
