The Rose's Ocean (RWBY/One Piece)

Ruby could have been born with the potential to use Conqueror's Haki but was never in a situation that pushed her to use it.
That could probably correlate with Ruby having a natural talent for leadership and making new teamwork maneuvers on a fly along with befriending people she meets even when she had no experience as shown at the initiation of Beacon Academy.

As for her Silver Eyes, that makes Ruby as an Aura-protected nature Logia with the power of Silver Eyes. That would certainly stand her out in the Grand Line.

what about the zombies powered by stolen shadows around the time brook was introduced?
Thriller Bark stuff? Yeah, maybe.

It's finding the right balance of "this is an unholy abomination against nature" and "this is just a Devil Fruit's power" that justifies it. Lily is an obvious one, being an Eldritch Abomination with no connection to DF's that we know of. Tot Musica is another one. But the zombies of Thriller Bark are harder to say. Technically all they are are corpses powered by shadows. The part that makes them abominations against nature are all surgical in nature beyond that. So unless I want to counterbalance the issue of an arc where Ruby is reduced to more of a side character by giving her an arc where she just facerolls everything other that Perona, it's a question of if I want to reduce Moria's entire power to a one note "well, this'll beat them".

It also feels like beating Usopp while he's just getting up. Some of his best moments of sniping outside of EL come from landing salt in the TB zombies mouth, so just casually adding in that Ruby no sells them...

Yeah, it makes it look like I really, really have it out for Usopp when I really don't.

Like, this needs to be stressed. Usopp is not gonna have a good time in this fic. His Inferiority complex is gonna be going full blast until at least Water 7. He's gonna be shown up by Ruby.

This doesn't translate to me not liking Usopp or not thinking he has a place on the crew. He does, absolutely, it's just a case of for a long time he feels useless. It's a major reason why Ruby grinds his gear, she makes him feel useless. She's a better weapons engineer than him, she's a better sniper than him at least until he gets Kabuto and she's able to create parts that perfectly fit the Merry for repairs (even if he has to do the repairs himself).

But the Water 7 explosion was ultimately always gonna happen. Usopp associates Merry with the only thing of value he offers the crew, and so with the Merry no longer being capable of being sailed, it leaves the question of what he offers the crew in his eyes. And that's gonna be exaggerated in this fic.

It is kinda expected since Ruby fills in a lot of roles that Luffy said he wanted in a crew.

Ruby's a leader, a tactician, a fighter, and a sniper. Plus she's also a weaponsmith or something since Signal students make their own weapons. Huntress things.

So. Usopp is kinda sidelined. Lots of potential conflict there, especially on their way to the Grand Line where Ruby's really gonna have a hard go, and keep everyone alive and in one piece (ha!)

Yeah, there's a reason Ruby is the First Mate, even if she doesn't show it. She's arguably (or really unarguably) more suited for captain ship than Luffy, so it's her job to keep everyone doing their job and alive since Luffy is... Well, a grade A dumbass powered purely by his whims and whatever crackhead logic he comes up with in any particular moment.

No wonder Luffy is compatible with his Gum-Gum Fruit or rather Human-Human Fruit, Model: Nika that allows him to do some wacky things.

Also, Luffy can be serious and show why he's the captain of the Straw Hats for a reason occasionally. Also there's Zoro, who may not be First Mate at all in the first place, firmly states that if Luffy doesn't put his foot down and show his authority as captain, he will be the first to quit from the crew in the middle of Going Merry dispute at Water 7.

Oh, definitely, but ultimately Ruby has years of experience leading people, as opposed ot Luffy who's leadership style most of the time can best be summed up as "dude, we're friends who do shit together, we don't need a leader"

Ultimately, that's why Ruby likes the Strawhats, and why it takes so long for her to acknowledge she is the First Mate (and even longer to realize Ussop doesn't like her very much). After years of having the weight of the world on her shoulders "let's be dumbasses and go looking for some mythical treasure that may not even exist" is exactly what she needs.

Fair enough, Luffy doesn't do plans and so his friends and allies use him as the guy who cause the biggest commotion drawn towards him and plan around him to their advantage.

Guess I can see Ruby no longer giving a damn about Salem and the fate of Remnant. Let someone else be the hero instead of her and whether that person succeed or fail in the end, she could care less.

And that she might probably subscribe to Luffy's view of heroes. He likes heroes but doesn't want to be one and that heroes share food with others, he prefers to keep the food to himself. Of course Luffy actually does help if his new friends he meet and bond with are in danger and that they are willing to stand up to the enemy threatening their home and loved ones.

oh, she's still keeping an eye out for s way back to Remnant, it's just this is basically an extended vacation. Doing anything other than stress about the fate of the world.
And that Ruby would find a new purpose in the world of One Piece: find her teammates Yang, Weiss and Blake and also Jaune since they fell from Ambrosius' network of golden bridges like she did.

From her perspective, Ruby would believe that if she's in a world where people eat Devil Fruits or possess unimaginable strength and abilities after falling, her friends are here too and will stick with the Straw Hats in hopes of reuniting with them.

Yeah, I feel having a clean divide of "this person is from Remnant, no Haki for you!" Or "This person is from One Piece, no Aura for you!" Takes some of the fun out of a crossover.
It'd work better if the powers themselves were more equal, but Aura just isn't good enough for it to stand up that way, and on the other hand it's hard to scale it up in a way that doesn't trivialize earlier fights.

Exactly. Aura starts strong, but there is a point where it levels out and can't keep up anymore.

Meanwhile Haki, which literally translates to "Ambition", is by Kaido's own description the only thing that truely matters to Conquer the seas. That Gol D. Roger was capable of standing even or above monsters like Whitebeard, Big Mom and Kaido based entirely by his Haki alone. Aura just plain can't stand up to that.

Plus, Roger and his crew follow the rule of "you must know how to swim" and not rely on a Devil Fruit alone. Of course there are exceptions with Buggy who ate the Chop-Chop Fruit by accident (Shanks spooked him in the middle of intending to sell it) and also Douglas Bullet who ate the Clank-Clank Fruit out of desperation to survive in his time as a child soldier prior to joining Roger Pirates.

The fact of the matter is that four of the strongest fighters of their age, Garp, Oden, Silver and Rogers, relied soley on Haki. Devil Fruits can make you more powerful, Whitebeard, Big Mom and Kaido were all monsters with just their Devil Fruit, but Haki is the ultimate force in the One Piece world, and without access to it in any way shape or form there would be a point where Ruby is reduced from Supporting Protagonist to Supporting character.

Don't forget those 3 were also former members of the Rocks Pirates led by Xebec who apparently doesnt have a Devil Fruit either but is considered so freakishly strong with Haki he held the entire crew of future Emperors and other bigshot pirates like Golden Lion Shiki together despite they don't get along with each other, and they only follow him for his strength alone.

Not only that, it took the combined might of Roger and Garp to take Xebec down together.

I'm on bed rest detail for at least a week to heal up fully. I'll try to write in that time but it'll probably be slow going

Yeah, as I said, Ruby, let alone RWBY characters that don't get Devil Fruit, would be left in the dust without Haki eventually. To bully the poor boy even further, even Usopp has Observation Haki.

Ruby is meant to be a member of the Monster Quintet Quartetet in this fic. Without Biological enhancements like Sanji or Haki like all three of the others members, she wouldn't be able to keep up with what that title implies.

It'd be amazing to see Silver Eyes being enhanced by Conqueror's Haki awakened by Ruby and it will super extra damage to the enemy.

Today on Psycho writing Ruby disrespecting the rules of shonen because she ain't from thst genre, "What is "duel" when you have a crew?"
