The Rose's Ocean (RWBY/One Piece)

I haven't watched the live action yet (I know it's good, just been busy with other stuff... Like rewatching the anime and writing), so I can't say. I just believe with absolute certainty that Sanji would respect a woman being a lesbian (or, as Ruby kinda says but doesn't really know the term for, Demisexual) and drop it.
Take your time when you get to watch One Piece live action.

Sanji would probably see Ruby like a sister to him, being reminded of Reiju who broke him out and told him to flee where he can find people who actually care for him: his one true father Zeff, and the Straw Hats.

And he can give Ruby pointers of how to use kicks that she can augment with her Woods-Woods Fruit.

I basically said to a friend that the only member of the Starwhats Ruby isn't close to is Usopp. Not because she doesn't like him, but because she has a severe case of being "Miss Better-Than-You" compared to Usopp. She's a better sniper until at least he gets Kabuto, she's a better weapons developer than him, she can create parts that perfectly fit the Merry for repairs (can't help that keel though). So for Usopp, who has something of a Superiorty Inferiority complex, Ruby bugs the crap out of him.

There's one thing Usopp can do that Ruby couldn't: being able to make gunpowder (considering Going Merry has a frontal cannon) and turn anything into projectiles, weaponizing them while Ruby would soon run out of Dust bullets for her Crescent Rose after using them up.

And Dust is nonexistent in One Piece world.

Yeah, Usopp has his place in the crew, don't think I'm saying otherwise (if nothing else, I will die on the hill that he's Luffy's best friend among the crew), he's a grade A bullshiter and good at using his head to win fights while Ruby is a lot more of an instinctive fighter. It's just their generic skillsets largely overlap with Ruby being better than him at them, so it hurts his pride.

I see your point. I can definitely see Usopp being grumpy when Ruby demonstrate her weapon crafting skills on the Clima-Tact staff for Nami and functions better compared to Usopp's first attempt that has party tricks and gimmicks that almost got Nami into trouble with Miss Doublefinger during their fight.

There was that ship with Ruby/Weapons...

Also, Ruby being a combat prodigy. And all that Huntress training with compartmentalizing all the negative emotions.

Thanks for sharing.

I literally got done writing a 200 word description of Yoru from Ruby's PoV. She still loves weapons, and would love to look at Wado Ichimonji, she just knows it won't happen anymore than she would let Zoro look at Floating Array.

Ruby's still at a relatively low point. Not the lowest she can go, but she's recovering from losing her girlfriend and being marooned for a month. She's just keeping a handle on it.

Man, can you imagine how big the Sunny is gonna be in this Continuity? Ruby can literally just make Adam wood for Franky.

I can imagine the immense relief and terror from Nami. Relief that she didn't have to give up most of the money to buy the very expensive Adam Wood, which got Straw Hats near broke post-Enies Lobby celebration, and terror that Franky is gonna spend them with Iceburg on their work of upgrading the Thousand Sunny to make it bigger, badass and more accommodating.

Also the World Government would not be pleased if they find out a Woods-Woods Fruit can make Adam Wood just like that, and give Ruby a new bounty on her head, probably Alive since there's no guarantee if the Devil Fruit will circulate to their hands should she die.

Of course, the Straw Hats see their bounties as achievements of their notoriety and celebrate as usual.

I'm seriously considering a running gag where Ruby's bounty is always higher than Luffy's. Not through any intention of hers, it just consistently manages to be higher than his.

Because I find it funny to imagine the First Mate with a higher bounty than the Captain.

That would be really funny to see Luffy being more than determined to one up Ruby, not out of jealously but a friendly competition between friends when it comes to getting bigger bounties.

Canon Chopper who always get a lower bounty as a running gag: "Yes! That's how it feels!"

I know Ruby has a bigger bounty than Luffy up till Enis Lobby, it's just whether it becomes a running gag.
Fair enough, anyway, will Ruby think of other applications of the Woods-Woods Fruit like how she made a wood replica of Ember Celica that fires explosive seeds?

Such as Ruby creating the giant Knight with a sword made of ironwood or Adam Wood to remember Weiss and her Semblance summoning or using wood clones of herself to cover more ground as her way to remember Blake and her use of Semblance that allows her to manifest clones.

Yes, she will. I have techniques planned out for each member of the RWBYJNPR. Ruby will also make moves not based around them, of course, but her basic moved are based around her team because she loves and misses them.

Awesome, and I look forward to it when Ruby uses those moves against her enemies the Straw Hats face in their journey to the Grand Line.

Also considering Ruby's distrust of the military after the events of Volume 7-8, she is definitely not gonna like the Marines after finding out how crappy they are. Sure there are some decent people in the ranks but their superiors like the Admirals (Akainu is the worst among them all) and most of the Vice-Admirals, who drank the Absolute Justice Kool Aid, would make Volume 8 Ironwood look like a petty school bully in comparison.

Would it be ridiculous dor Ruby to call Yoru flawless? It's supposed to be one of the 12 finest blades in the One Piece world.

There's a reason she's signing on with a Pirate Crew. I can't even see her being a Koby where she wants to become a Marine and then slowly gets disillusioned with them. She's already disillusioned with the military complex.

Mihawk would tell Ruby to calm down with her praise of calling Yoru flawless or ask her to show him her Crescent Rose so he can take a look at himself as a fair exchange since he would find her curious - a girl who is a nature Logia with her soul being manifested as a shield after sensing her with his Haki.

I can see Ruby being confused why Luffy lets Koby join the Marines even though he had an opportunity to change his mind and join the Straw Hats instead, which Luffy firmly states that it's Koby's dream and he supports his choice even though they would be on the opposite sides.

Luffy is the kind of guy who wants his friends follow their dreams. Especially when he tells the Straw Hat Grand Fleet to do the same post-Dressrossa arc.

Chapter 2: Baratie Part 1
Fuck it, I have ad a really stressful couple of days.

---

Ruby was sitting outside the Baratie when Luffy and Zoro came out at dawn. The swordsman drew Wado Ichimonji off his hip as he did, "They been doing that long?"

"About an hour," Ruby said, "I count fifty men, not counting the lieutenants and Krieg himself. Probably all they could get up with the food Zeff gave them."

"Couple more and it'd be good practice," Zoro said, slotting Wado Ichimonji's tsuka in between his jaws, drawing his other two swords.

"You fight with a sword in your mouth?" Ruby asked in confusion.

"And you fight with a giant red scythe, you're not allowed to talk," Zoro snarked around Wado Ichimonji.

Fair enough.

"I'll take the guy in the gaudy armor," Ruby said, pointing at the large man with pearl embedded armor. Before they could say anything, the sound of a match lighting up echoed behind them and they glanced back to see Sanji lighting up a cigarette.

"You see the guy with the tonfa?" He said, "He's mine. It's personal."

"I'll take their boss," Luffy said, cracking his hands.

"And that leaves the small fry to me," Zoro said, "Ready?"

"Something's coming," Ruby said quietly, a feeling in her gut.

"What do you mean?" Luffy asked

"Just… A feeling. Something's coming. I can feel it on the air, can't you?"

"No?" Luffy said.

"We'll deal with that when it comes to it," Zoro said, "let's go."

Ruby transformed into her iron wood form, launching forwards with the rest of the group.

Pearl watched the wooden woman step between the ships, silver orbs drilling into him as she pulled a metal box off her back. She spoke then, wooden lips clacking against each other like a doll, "One warning, to all of you. Turn around. And walk away."

Don Krieg laughed, "We're the Krieg Pirates! We have over a hundred men and survived the Grand Line! What can you do?"

"And we're the crew of the man who will be King of the Pirates," Pirate Hunter Zoro said, "even if you did have a hundred men, which if you aren't lying, looks like half of them are below deck starving to death, we'd still beat you!"

"King of the Pirates!?" Krieg laughed, "You think anyone on your crew will be King of the Pirates!? That's what I'll be!"

"Somehow, if you couldn't survive the Grand Line," the wooden girl said, "I doubt that. it's here… He's here… What is he?"

The last part was said detachedly, eyes looking past Pearl to stare at something past the crowd and over the edge of the ship. As he turned to look, as they all did, Pearl felt his heart stop in his chest.

Floating towards them was a deceptively simple, coffin shaped raft. Big enough for one person, and Pearl recognized the person perfectly well. His chest exposed to the world, a black and wine red long coat over his body and a black feathered hat sat on his head covering his eyes. As he looked up, sharp, orangish eyes stared out at them, and then he stood up, drawing the sword off his back.

"We- we sailed through the Calm Belt to escape him!" Pearl said, failing to keep the quaver out of his voice, "how is he here?"

"One of the Warlords of the Sea," Don Krieg breathed.

""Hawk-Eyes" Dracule Mihawk," Pirate Hunter Zoro said, pulling the bandana off from around his bicep and tying it around his head.

Ruby had seen beautiful swords her entire life, how could she not, when she went to a Huntsmen academy and had a special appreciation for weapons of all kind? Qrow's Harbinger, Blake's Gambol Shroud, Weiss's Myrtenaster, Pyrrha's Milò, Yatsuhashi's Fulcrum, Zoro's Wado Ichimonji. Blades that had been forged with love and care to be the best weapon they could be for their wielder. Compared to the sword she was staring at right now, they might as well have been children's toys.

The hilt alone, from pommel to guard, had to be over a yard in length, with the blade another two. It had to be, as the man who drew it off his back was by no means short and it still stood above him like a banner, the golden, gem embedded crossguard standing even with his head.

The blade was ramrod straight, except for a one way curve at the tip of the blade, which was blacker than night. Blacker than anything Ruby had ever seen. And where it touched the water, Ruby wasn't sure how she could even see it at this distance, a small but noticeable void formed, like even the water was afraid to sully a perfect blade like it.

And it was clearly perfect for the man wielding it, for "Hawk Eyes" Mihawk. Perfectly weighted, perfectly balanced. Perfectly everything. Uncle Qrow had taught her every blade had a flaw, but for the life of her, Ruby couldn't see what the flaw was in this one.

Then Mihawk raised the perfect blade so it was so it was above his head and swung it.

One thing Ruby had noticed about this world was that there seemed to be a lack of Aura. Zoro didn't have any, despite being a trained swordsman on par with a Beacon graduate, and Luffy didn't have any despite coming from a bandit clan. Luffy made due with his rubber body and Zoro with his monstrous strength.

If that was true, someone had failed to inform Mihawk of that. And if it wasn't Aura… Well, Ruby didn't want to consider how strong the man was.

The ship below their feet shook and fell with a crash as the shockwave hit it, splitting it in two. Ruby felt her stomach drop as she realized what it meant. If Krieg wasn't lying, over fifty starving men had just been dumped into the ocean.

And she could do nothing about it. Because she couldn't swim. Suddenly, having a Devil Fruit sucked.

"You," Zoro said, walking past the men collapsed with fear, "Hawk-Eyes."

"Hmm?" The man grunted.

"My name is Roronoa Zoro, and I challenge you to a duel."

What was that idiot doing!?

Zoro stared at Mihawk, who stared back with his orange eyes. Finally, the World's Strongest Swordsman said, "You're challenging me?"

"That's what I said," Zoro said.

"It appears the frog in the well truly knows nothing about the sea," Mihawk said lightly, "You do realize this is the weakest sea in the world?"

"So?" Zoro said around Wado Ichimonji. Mihawk sighed, pulling off his cross shaped necklace and drew a two inch knife from it.

"Zoro," Ruby called, voice serious, "This isn't a fight you can win."

"I'd listen to your friend," Mihawk said, "She clearly has a better head on her shoulders than you.

Rather than listen to either of them, Zoro got ready for the fight he had waited so long for. Crossing his arms, he launched himself forwards, "Oni Gir-!"

The tip of the small dagger hit all three swords at the exact moment they crossed, stopping all three with the smallest exertion of force. The blades shook as Zoro fought to keep from being pushed back.

The gap between them couldn't be that big, could it? Zoro had trained with blades his entire life, yet…

No, it had to be luck, it had to be!

Zoro launched into a flurry of attacks, losing track of what direction he was sending them from as he did his best to leave so much as a scratch on Mihawk. And each one was parried with as much effort as a child.

"Take. This. Seriously!" Zoro gritted out.

"I dueled one of the Four Emperors before he lost his arm," Mihawk said, inflection not even changing, "taking you seriously would end with you sprayed across the deck of this ship, but if you insist, I'll take this slightly more seriously."

Zoro leapt back, spinning his nameless katanas as Mihawk drew his black blade off his back and charged towards the World's Strongest Swordsman, "Three Sword Style Secret Technique, Three Thousand Worl-!"

Mihawk vanished, and the next thing Zoro knew, his nameless katanas had shattered to pieces.

"Secret Technique?" Mihawk asked from behind him, "Then I take it that was the strongest you had?"

Zoro turned, offering his chest to Mihawk as he walked forwards.

"I'll leave you with a warning, Roronoa Zoro," Mihawk said, drawing back his sword, before a flurry of rose petals began to surge towards them. Mihawk swung out a black covered hand and backhanded the top of the mass, slamming Ruby into the ground, "don't interrupt and disgrace his swordsman honor, girl. I won't kill him, just leave him with a mark to remember this loss by."

Then Mihawk swung his black sword down, Zoro's body screamed in pain as blood exploded out of his chest, and he collapsed as Mihawk walked away and Ruby scooped him up.

"You fight with a sword in your mouth?" Ruby asked in confusion.

"And you fight with a giant red scythe, you're not allowed to talk," Zoro snarked around Wado Ichimonji.
Ruby: "But how do you breathe through the sword in your mouth?"

Zoro: "Training, duh. When you get the hang of something that would be normally impractical for others, it's like second nature to you."

Ruby: *remembering her training with Crescent Rose from Uncle Qrow* "Touche."

Was Ruby's Aura bypassed by Haki? Because it looks like her Aura never glowed when taking a big hit or shown some cracks.

Either way, Ruby is gonna feel that bruise on her face and realize Mihawk actually injured her for the first time, wondering what kind of power he used in the Grand Line from her point of view.

Aura shielding isn't passive, according the later seasons. It's something you have to focus on and Ruby was absolutely focused on getting Zoro out of danger. Plus, she's started to get used to relying on her Logia defense to conserve Aura (bad idea).

That said, Mihawk did just slap her out of Petal Burst. That's gonna be a move that establishes how far up the totem pole he is compared to them.

I see, from Mihawk's perspective, Ruby using her Petal Burst Semblance looks like some kind of Logia Devil Fruit (which he is half-correct as Ruby is a Woods-Woods Fruit user) and he decided to give her a small but important lesson about never depending too much on her Devil Fruit in the Grand Line where arrogant and complacent Logias have short lifespans.

That makes sense considering that petal burst at higher levels works alot like a logic if you could use a logia on other people.
