The Power and the Throne: The quest of an evil queen

[X] Try to persuade the Ogres to fight alongside you.

Minion time!
I'd agree with that, but I think it might be worth it to learn more about the Beast. It might be more useful to us than the Ogres?

What if, for example, it turned out to be the cause of all the troubles and the prophecies? And the only one who can vanquish it is a pure, beautiful lady of royal blood, a scion of a fallen realm? ;)

Act 1, Seaon 7: The beast of a thousand bodies
Act 1
Scene 7: The Beast Of A Thousand Bodies

[X] Question the chief about the beast
[X] Try to persuade the Ogres to join you.

Viona: [What is it's form?]

Ogre Chief: [It is an ancient Human Lord, fed fat on the bodies of his followers. A product of the unknown days! It is twice my height, black and armoured, and with a cloak of screaming faces.]

Viona: [A moment]

Viona: The ogre says it is a Lord who has consumed his followers. A massive knight with a cloak of faces.

Caroline thinks for a moment, then nods.

Caroline: I have heard of such a creature. Let me consult one of my books.

She begins to root through her backpack, coming up with a massive crimson tome, and begins to lead through it.

Viona: [It would help our success on both sides if you were to accompany us.]

Ogre Chief: [We have faced this being once, I have no wish to sacrifice more men to do so again]

Viona: [You could start down here if not]

Ogre Chief: [I would rather take my chances with the place you came from and the overworld than with that thing]

Viona: [That would be a serious mistake.]

Viona smiles, the expression enough to make the Ogre Chief take a step backwards at the sudden surge of menace pouring off her.

Viona: [More than that though, do you really wish to tell your king you were saved by a human? Even one such as I?]

The Ogre Chief growls then looks at his hunting party.

Ogre Chief: [Alright, volunteers only, on your feet! No dishonour to any who doesn't accompany us.]

The Ogres look at one another, then about half of them rise, including one, older and obviously wounded.

Ogre Chief: [Not you Grolk, you're hurt.]

Grolk: [It killed my brother. I'll have it!]

The Ogre Chief grumbles, but allows Grok to follow. As they move, the corridor becomes darker, its stone seemed to have been darkened somehow, until it's deep basalt black. Marks that seem to indicate battle, the nicks of blade impacts and the marks of killing spells breaks show at intervals, as do occasional shattered and melted weapons

The team head down the South West passage to a large set of doors. Munira cracks them open slightly and peers through, then waves Viona and Caroline forward. The Ogres stay back, spears aimed at the door.

Munira (whispering): It's right there!

The room beyond is hundreds of feet square, its high ceiling held up by arched columns that rise along the rooms sides. Vague statues rise along its top, hidden in the gloom. Much of the floor is filled with piles of ruble, piled up like the remains of castle walls.

In the middle is a huge gatehouse still intact, its stones stained completely back. At its top, a massive figure stands. It is humanoid, but its proportions are odd, its limbs too long, body thin and emaciated behind a thick black armour of ancient design. It's face is a gleaming golden mask of royalty, twisted into a screaming mask, and a heavy shield rests on its arm.

Behind it a cloak flaps, covered by a mass of swirling shapes.

Caroline frowns then looks at the creature then ducks back.

Caroline: If you can weaken it with your attacks, then I can bind it into a vessel, and unleash it at will.

Selena: Alternatively, I can probably unmake it. It would be safer, but we wouldn't end up with a servant.

[X] Attack to bind

Let's remember our end goal- it's not XP or shinies, it's to take over the kingdom from within. A bound monstrosity could be incredibly useful.

Imagine if we set it to ravage the countryside until the the "Good Queen" publicly vanquishes it.

[X] Attack to bind

Always try to steal power, putting it safely away is for heroes and other types of dork.

[X] Attack to bind.

Some kind of Dark Souls boss in our employ would be rad. I feel bad for the ogres that are going to get killed, and also this is probably going to be mutually exclusive with an ogre alliance, who might be more practical.

[X] Attack to unmake.

Yeah, no. This kind of thing always end with the monster going out of control and eating the evil overlord.

[X] Attack to unmake.

Get ogres for huge servants, who would be hugely impressed by us.

...do they have huge women?

The Fallen Lord of Unknown Ages

Viona
: Caroline, what will you need?

Caroline: Time, and you to hit it. I won't be able to do much, but chant and wave.

Viona: Alright. We'll try to surround it, hit it from all sides and pull it around the room. Concentrate on staying alive, we only need a few hits, right Caroline?

Caroline nods, already pulling out several alchemical preparations, and Viona quickly repeats the instructions to the Ogres. At the end of her instruction she nods to Metzel, and draws a slim sword.

Metzil pushes hard against the carved door, throwing it inwards. The group charge into the room, Caroline staying concealed in the doorway. Viona incants and Selena raises her staff, lightning and sunfire flash out cutting bright lines across the room and slamming into the Fallen Lord atop its pillar. It rocks, its shield glowing with some ancient rune that hurts the eyes, then unfolds to towers twice the height of the ogres. Black fire flickers around the bones as it leaps down, its cloak of faces whipping in the air. Its spear slams down, impaling one of the ogre warriors into a pillar. He roars, flails at the Fallen Lord, then howls as it yanks the spear out, throwing him aside like a rag doll, swinging around as Metzil and another ogre warrior attack it from behind. The ogre's spear slams through it, seemingly without obstacle, and comes out the other side with a desiccated corpse, black smoke pouring out of its eyes, nose and mouth. The Fallen Lord undulates, then shield bashes the ogre aside, only for Metzil to dash in, her form blurring as her dash becomes inhumanly fast, leaps, and delivers a powerful blow to its head. Again, the strike seems not to phase it, but another corpse, this one in gleaming brass armour is throw free. It's jaws snap open and it tries to bite Mezil out of the air, only to have her bounce off an invisible wall and land skidding.

The beast leaps away from the incoming blows of four ogres, lead by the chief who charge in. It lands at the other end of the room, Selena raises her staff, and a massive ball of golden fire chases it. The hall washes out into a massive fireball as it strikes.

Viona: Did we get it?

Caroline: Look out It's still…!

The Fallen Lord comes hurtling out of the fire and lands in front of the group, its spear stabbing down and impaling one ogre into the floor. It shield bashes another across the room, hard enough to shatter the tiles.

Grolk and the Ogre Chief charge to meet it together, spears stabbing. The Ogre Chief rains blows on it from the front while Grolk flanks to the side, each spear thrust leaving blackened bodies behind the things cloak. With a ghastly keening, the Fallen Lord yanks its own spear free and swings it like a staff, knocking both ogres down. It hunches forward, jaws opening to bite off the Ogre Chief's head.

Viona (to the audience): Well, here's the chance to see if I want that ogre alliance or not.

[ ] Interpose yourself
[ ] Draw it's attention
[ ] Let him die

[X] Interpose yourself

It'd be ironic if we the villain were actually more heroic than our eventual would-be dethroner.

Also: Get midboss monster AND huge women.

Act 1 Scene 8: Viona’s bed chamber.
[x] Interpose yourself

The scene stands in tablo, the Fallen Lord looms over the fallen Ogre Chief. At the door, Caroline still chants, other ogres rush forward, trying to get to their leader, but are too far, their mouth's open in howls of rage and fear.

Viona (To the audience): When it comes to that moment, I don't really think about it. I just thought what she'd want me to do.

The scene snaps back into motion as Viona raises her sword as if in salute and is suddenly between the Fallen Lord and the Ogre Chief, her blade dives for the undead thing's face, cutting it aside. It roars, claws at the rapier wound, bodies of fallen warriors dropping out. Viona smiles, then yells as its spear swings around and slams into her body, for a moment she stands as the Fallen Lord pulls back, yanking an impaled shadow image of Viona free. Gasping, Viona grabs onto her own shadow and pulls back. The Fallen Lord hisses in anger and yanks the spear free, sending Viona flying backwards to land in a heap.

Caroline screams something and the Fallen Lord is sucked, roaring and snapping, into the pages of her open book.

Selena rushes to Viona's side. Blood is visibly staining the front of Viona's dress, and she coughs weakly. Around her neck, a glowing neckless flickers. She is pale as death.

Selena: You idiot! How could you!

Selena puts a glowing hand onto Viona's side, and her breathing eases.

Selena: I need daylight. We need to get her up.

Viona (to the audience): I should remember that I'm not her. Not now, not ever.

Viona's eyes close.

Act 1
Scene 8: Viona's bed chamber.

Viona
awakes in a shaft of late afternoon sunlight, taking a deep breath of air. Her room is expansive, painted in blue and gold, with scenes of elves and dark elves making war against one another painted across the walls and ceiling. A basin of flowing water stands to one side.

Viona sits up and pats down her body, finding it whole. Looking to the side she sees Selena meditating cross legged next to the bed, while Caroline is pacing up and down in front of the window. They look up as Viona sits up, and Selena stands with an easy grace.

Selena: See what happens when you play the heroine?

Viona: Old habits die hard.

Selena: And what do you mean by that?

Viona: Nothing at all. What happened?

Selena: Oh, the ogres were all suitably impressed by you almost killing yourself, and left. They say that their Lord of Necessity will dispatch a messenger soon, and offer you a meeting. Apparently they were impressed, if no one else.

Viona: That was the general idea.

Caroline: We cleared out the rest of the underground keep. There's several facilities below it that we could recommission, as well as the keep itself, which could provide a good base.
[ ] an ancient alchemy lab, (1000 gold to rebuild and 4 weeks to rebuild 100 gold a month mantinance)
[ ] a necromancy lab (1000 gold to rebuild 4 weeks to rebuild to rebuild 100 gold a month maintenance)
[ ] a library (500 gold to catalogue 6 weeks to rebuild to rebuild 100 gold a month maintenance)
[ ] an arsenal (500 gold and 5 weeks to salvage to rebuild 100 gold a month mantinance)

Caroline: We could also rebuild the keep itself
[ ] Increasing security in the keep by rebuilding the internal doors and the like would be fairly easy (500 gold)
[ ] We could employ more guards to keep it secured, though it's expensive (500 gold a month)
[ ] The gate to the undercity is mostly blocked by rubble. (1000 gold to fix)
[ ] There seem to be some tunnels to an old catacomb that I'd like to check out (500 gold to clear)
[ ] We could also move the ritual chamber down, it'd be easier to conceal if someone searches the house. (200 gold)

Caroline: Oh, and I wanted to talk to you about research projects . . .

Selena: Caroline, this isn't the time.

Viona: No, it's fine. I feel good as new.

Selena: You know, there is a price for our ladies help like that. I don't know what it will be yet, but a life is no small thing.

Viona: A life for a life?

Selena: Nothing so small. The Lady of Gold will want something that actually matters.

Viona: I always pay my debts.

Selena raises a hand to Viona's face, then removes it.

Selena: I know.

Viona: So what about these research projects.

Caroline: Well, I'm wondering what you'd like me to research first…

[ ] The Fallen Lord (4 weeks)
[ ] The history of the keep (2 weeks)
[ ] The bodies of the dead (2 weeks)

Selena: Alright, enough shop talk, you need rest. Sleep for at least a few hours, let your soul fall back into place.

Viona: Fine.

Selena draws the curtains and Viona closes her eyes. In her sleep, she thrashes, obviously having a bad dream. Finally, she awakes, sighs and gets up, going to the basin to wash her face, then puts on a dressing gown.

Viona: (to the audience) Enough bed rest. Time to go spend the evening with someone productive.

[ ] Go spend the evening Enapay
[ ] Have dinner with Selena
[ ] See how Catherine's research is going
[ ] Munira is probably going out, join her in disguise
[ ] See what Metzil is doing.
[ ] See if Adam is still here
[ ] Go to Robert's office
