The Lighthouses and the Pit (Fantasy Mage Quest)

In terms of combinations both severing distance and infinite sharpness and blade projection and cutting the strings are also good. The reason I prefer the first option is that I always like more movement.

[X] Severing Distance
[X] Infinite Sharpness
[X] Blade Projection
[X] Cutting The Strings

[X] Girl

Ugh, sword powers don't mean we're suddenly an amine protagonist.

I'd rather choose a light weapon initially because we're underfed and undertrained and there's no friendly biotinker to patch us up. Reach is also important.
[X] Woman
[X] Cutting the string

I really hope the knowledge we get from eventual pit-diving will let us reach 3rd ascension.

[X] Infinite Sharpness
[X] Severing Distance

Infinite Sharpness because I like pole-arms and doing damage is great, and Severing Distance because teleporting is awesome :p.

[X] Blade Projection
[X] Severing Distance

These seem really useful for entering the Pit and coming out alive.

So we're not voting for it yet, but how does everyone feel about the year of training in return for a month of service? I'm highly tempted by this offer, I feel like we're going to need that training.

[X] Woman
(There are enough male protagonists. Also I have a thing for swordswomen.)
[X] Blade Projection
(As a guy who's actually fought with swords for years and years? Reach is a massive edge.)
[X] Infinite Sharpness
(The lightsaber is the coolest weapon in the universe. This gives you the cutting power of a lightsaber. Which makes whatever you're holding...pretty cool.)
[X] Severing Distance
(Teleport. Yes, yes please. Also, light weapons are good to start training with as an underfed orphan.)

And about the year of training for a month of service? Seems like a pretty darn good trade to me.

Severing Distance is the coolest technique of the 4 who wouldn't want to be able to teleport?

I also think it's the least useful starting out, and since we can get these techniques later why start with the one that gives the least impact?

Imagine we are facing another equally skilled swordsman who uses no techniques:

With Blade Projection we can attack him from ranged.

With Infinite Sharpness he can't parry our withstand our attacks, he must dodge.

With Cutting the Strings with can take away his speed and cut away from him at a distance, or just cut away his ability to fight. (Lot of options here actually)

With Severing the Distance we can close distance and retreat.

The other 3 techniques allow us to overwhelm the opponent, while Severing's movement would help I just don't see it helping near as much as the other 3.

But once we have Severing later on, we can quickly retreat and launch a Blade Projection from ranged. Or dash around with Infinite Sharpness carving multiple foes up quickly. It's a good skill for when we are more skilled, and judging from it's initial popularity should be easy to vote in later.

Oh that's true, this is just the starting power.

I mean the only problem I have with that is that going with anything but a dual weapon would make teleporting later on hard. But the distance argument is a good one.

[x] Blade Projection

It's just very practical.

Quick note, wrote about ~4,000 words for a work thing today so my hand is fried. Update tomorrow instead unless it plays up still, in which case I'll do it Sunday.

[X] Blade Projection
[X] Cutting The Strings

@occipitallobe Can we can some examples of anti-synergy between Blade Projection and Cutting The Strings or Severing Distance? I can imagine how you might mix them together for Cutting The Strings but not how they'd both be 'massively reduced', and while I can see how Blade Projection plus Severing Distance would just lower the ranges on both, I'm not sure what comboing them would even do at all?

Synergy is more 'you can't do two things at once very well'. Probably the wrong word to use. Cutting the Strings with a projected blade is nearly impossible. You can't cut distances far away for other people with Projection + Severing Distance. You can't Sever Distance and strike through the now-severed distance to Cut the Strings - you have to step through it and get in close. You can use skills sequentially to gain an advantage (a Bladebound might take Projection and Severing Distance to avoid enemies entirely where possible). At the moment it applied mainly to Blade Projection and other skills, but in the long term applying any two (or more) effects to a single sword-stroke is incredibly difficult.

Thanks for the promptness. I'm a little sad that we won't be able to be a ranged debuffer for a long time, but it was pipe-dream regardless.
