[x] House Mnemon
Sorry L'nessa, you've been a bro but V'neef being unable to let go of her momma's skirts is a dealbreaker.

[X] House V'neef

This was a tough call, but ultimately Ambrea's best character trait has been her loyalty to the people she cares about (which includes L'nessa), and I want to maintain that. Beyond that if we can pull off (or at least help pull off) a win for Veneef, then as someone who took the big risk and signed on early the benefits will be immense.

As such I am voting for this even though I think Mnemon is vastly safer and I prefer 3rd edition Mnemon to Vneef as a character.

I could see joining up with Seus instead, but while the members of the house our own age have made a positive impression I have very deep concerns about their leadership which the pitch made to us at the end of our discussion with Amti's mom have only made worse. To summarize I do not trust the leadership of house Seus to actually value Ambrea as anything more than a piece on the game board, while I believe both Mnemon and Veneef will come to see her as more than that if we side with them. I am also unsure we would get much from Seus beyond security if they are indeed on the winning side.

Also house Seus was a major factor in what happened to house Tepet at the battle of the Futile Flood, and they capitalized on what happened after even more. The update did not say that there would be issues from aligning with them with Sola down the line but I am still worried that it could come back to hurt us.

Beyond that while I want to get Amti into the hearth, and Seus would make that easier, I believe we can still do it without that joining house Seus.

I think all three options are in character for Ambrea, for the reasons stated in the vote prompt, so I am not to worried about that.

Why V'neef you ask?

1) First off, I don't buy the idea that V'neef has less of a chance at the throne. Like Nazat said, Mnemon has had more time to get more enemies like House Ragara (...through no fault of her own frankly). Along with that is that House Peleps is dealing with their own problems that might interfere with Mnemons (I don't know if I should mention what I should know from the books, I'll err on the side of not mentioning them here).

2)
In the years to come, adoption or marriage into House V'neef will see Ambraea take on adult responsibilities and pressures sooner than would be the norm. She does all in her power to put V'neef on the throne. She will be forced to adapt quickly to the young House's eclectic internal landscape, and perhaps to find a more comfortable accord with a sister she has so far been unable to keep herself from resenting.
Instead of guaranteed safety with Mnemon, we get guaranteed influence with V'neef. I want to see Ambraea start becoming to important to sideline in any event be it a Mnemon victory or a V'neef victory (...or you know...a Saloy Hin win)

3)
Despite being the Scarlet Empress's second-youngest living daughter, V'neef is already a matriarch in her own right, having benefited from the Empress's favour all her life. A popular and charismatic figure who controls the powerful and lucrative Merchant Fleet, V'neef feels she must win the coming civil war to ensure the future of her family. By seeking refuge with House V'neef, Ambraea refuses to sacrifice her friendships and her ambitions in exchange for greater safety.

This choice seems like the narrative culmination of Ambraea choosing her friends over the simple path time after time. She chose Maia, even if that would complicate things. She chose Sola, even if her situation would be difficult. This choice seems like a natural consequence of every choice she's made until now. Also...

V'neef L'nessa will not forget Ambraea accepting her heartfelt plea. They become Hearthmates, and their existing friendship solidifies into something stronger and more enduring. Maia would worry, but not object to L'nessa joining the Hearth. Her handlers in House Peleps understand that asking a woman not even of their own house to betray her Sworn Kin is a risky venture at the best of times, and it will limit how much they will try to use her against House V'neef. Of her own family, of course, she will make no mention.

I want to see this Hearth to completion (with the necromantic cinnamon bun of course, no matter how that complicates things.)

4) And finally, my last argument...

Mnemon will not forget this.

I'm enough of a contrarian dick to spite her. Honestly, that little tid-bit at the end is what sealed the deal for me.

I'm more compelled by Miss "the Iron Dragon Throne is mine by rights!" than by Miss "I don't want to lose my Rich Kid privileges". I also never really clicked on the L'nessa friendship, she has way too much 90's tv series high school cheerleader queen bee energy.

Plus if we actually want to protect L'nessa then we shouldn't pick the choice that put Ambraea right beside her in the crosshairs of an angry avalanche. It would be better for her if Ambraea were somewhere where she could somewhat steer the avalanche.

Honestly, the main reason I have for voting Sesus is for Ambar. Vote for Sesus to marry this practical weird little gay twink who's going to be a nice friend more than a romantic partner, who won't mind Maia one bit as long as he's allowed the equivalent, and vote for Sesus for more Amiti being relieved that Ambraea is around and friendly. We heard that Amiti being in or out of the Hearth is a later vote, but the flipside of it is that this is the answer that gives Amiti the best and simplest answer. If everyone she's close to are all on one side, things don't get as bad-complicated as it could be for Amiti, and that helps keep anyone from misusing Amiti's... flexible sense of morality.
That isn't necessarily entirely off the table with an adoption. Sesus is taking a wait and see approach, but ultimately they want to back someone else for empress first and elevate their own matriarch second. The only obstacle is that then cathak backs the competitionand this escalating into full civil war becomes unavoidable. Still, it's possible.

As Gazetteer has alluded to, it's a bit more than just losing rich kid privileges. Mnemon would strip her of the assets she would need to be capable of fending off the wrath of the houses the empress uprooted assets from to prop up V'neef as a counterbalance to Mnemon and further divide the great houses against eachother. V'neef and L'nessa have good cause to believe there may not be a house V'neef around in a decade even if they bend the knee. Do you really think V'neef was in position to refuse any of it without ending up on the empresses shit list and paying a price just as heavy?

As the update indicates, Ambraea has a lot of competition and most of Mnemon's daughters will feel the same about V'neef already, let alone after she allies with multi century enemies. The odds of climbing high enough to let L'nessa off lightly with exile are something of a longshot, let alone doing that and getting to establish a house ambraea.

The Realm is a bucket of crabs, anyone reaching for the top has to push down everyone else. If by some miracle Mnemon stepped aside and V'neef got the throne she would everything in her power to do the same thing. A tyrant cannot suffer rivals. Mnemon however is going to be a strong tyrant, and strong tyrants can be convinced to show mercy because they're strong. V'neef however is never going to be anything but a puppet of a stronger house. The only house weaker than hers is the Tepet. She plain doesn't have the numbers to become Empress by herself.

Either way, you got to feel for Mnemon. Whoever is putting their hat in the race for the throne is basically saying that they're aiming to kill her and hers. She's too strong and too legitimate to afford to be shown mercy. So I kinda see where she's coming from with her hard woman routine.

"Hard times make strong women. Strong women make good times. Good times make weak women."

House V'neef is the second largest naval power in the Realm. While Peleps has many more ships than them, none of the relatively small house navies that the other houses maintain can even really compare. They're also a very wealthy house, because the merchant fleet skims some off the top of all the tribute brought to the Blessed Isle. They control a number of lucrative satrapies, and a really significant chunk of V'neef's adoptive daughters are veterans from the Imperial Legions. She's in a much better position in terms of military strength than, say, Nellens. It is not that she's going to be a puppet of a stronger house if she takes the throne, so much that she's going to need to build a strong coalition if she wants even a chance at it, and she's going to need to offer the houses who supported her concessions.

Mnemon will also need allies to win a civil war, but she's in a stronger and more established position to begin with.

I an also amused by the idea Ambraea and V'neef forced to play nice because of their circumstance. That's probably a bit mean eh.
Actually, V'neef has always played nice. Has, somewhat desperately, attempted to gently, carefully advance her and Ambraea's ties beyond the bare minimum. Hopefully, now that Ambraea has Shigora's own account demonstrating that while V'neef got to hear the congratulations spoken aloud, their mother outright arranged for a rare gift to be prepared years in advance instead when it came to her certainty and pride in Ambraea's success and growth, she can embrace the emotional gratification and actually try to grow to like V'neef in whatever brief moments they have together when not by necessity seeing to other tasks.

I think I'd vote Sesus if it had a better chance, but I can't accept Mnemon. Ride or die, soul sisters for life in this hearth.

[X] House V'neef

Better people than me have argued the better reasons to pick V'neef, so I am just not gonna bother

Instead, I will regale you with a vision composed only out of my basest desires: I physically need Sola and Ambraea to tag team S'thera in order to shonenly bring her out of her funk and forcing her to prove she's the best swordswoman. And that can only happen if Ambraea is adopted by V'neef.
