The Lands of the River - A Bronze Souls Quest

Sorry for the delay! Locking in these votes:
[✔️] Use Crescent Moonbow on one of the archers. Let the hounds deal with the spearmen for now.
[✔️] Dodge for your reaction

[X] Introspection: as the servant of the Changing God, choosing a new name for yourself is hardly a foreign concept. Letting go of the past and reinventing yourself hides no terror for you. There is power in it. Not the power of sorcery and invocations, but one of self-definition, of making yourself into who you wish to be, one step at a time. Yes, it appeals to you. It does, however, leave the question of what your new name should be. It must be something fitting to your new office, of course, and yo your role as an emissary of the divine, but also reflect you as a person. In other words, it must be something cool. Lekkanut-Na. No, cooler.
Since nobody has seconded this vote, I'm going to leave the Introspection slot empty for now. I'll add this option to the list for future votes.

Can we have 2 rolls, for your attack and defence?

0-12.1: Quickdraw
[x] Use Crescent Moonbow on one of the archers. Let the hounds deal with the spearmen for now.
[x] Dodge for your reaction

You reach up and pluck the moonbow from your aten's glow, drawing back swiftly and loosing at the left archer as he raises his bow. The silvery bolt passes right through his chest, and he collapses like a puppet with the strings cut.

The hounds have already reached the gate as you turn your eyes to it; the guard to the right is fending off one hound, while the archer to his flank knocks another arrow. The other hound has seized the left guard by the leg, sparks flying from its jaws. Despite this, the man is raising his spear again with remarkable stolidity.

There are shouts from beyond the wall as the alarm is raised. The remaining archer is still watching the hounds, and the spearmen are clearly fully engaged.

What do you do now? The hounds are dividing the guards' attention nicely, but reinforcements are on the way. You are not the currently the focus of any attacks, so just vote for your action and any repositioning you wish.

You may still write in Introspections to add to the next vote at any time, but I want to keep the combat moving so the vote itself will be held later.

I've rolled the Hounds' attacks and defences under the hood; you don't learn as much about enemies from how your allies fight them, so the dice results are hidden and you have to go off the descriptions and health bars. They're doing well though!

So I guess they aren't going to run as we kill them.

On the plus side, they appear to be pretty fragile.

Things seem to be under control for now, so let's do the same thing again.

[X] Target the remaining Archer with the Crescent Moonbow while the hounds distract the spearmen.
[X] In case of an attack, dodge.

[X] Target the remaining Archer with Star's Call while the hounds distract the spearmen.
[X] In case of an attack, dodge.

You hesitate for a moment before trying a little less force on the next archer, but your uncertainty disrupts your focus and saps your energy a little as you turn the gesture to recapture the moonbow into a flick of your staff to send forth a mote of starlight. The spark flies slow but true, too slow to interrupt the archer's shot, and bursts upon his side, the brief brightness revealing clearly the linen armour that softens the hit. The archer ducks down behind the wall and you see his helmeted head turn toward you.

His arrow struck true, and the stormhound lets out a cry that is half canine whine and half soughing wind, as it limps backward from an outthrust shield. The other hound, however, has dragged its victim down and stands astride the prone body as two more guards pull open the gate and level their spearheads at it.

What now? You have drawn the archer's attention, the hounds are having mixed success, and two more spearmen have arrived to hold the gate. You might be able to hit all 3 with a Rain of Stars, but you judge that you would catch the victorious hound in the process.

So that seems like 6 health and 1 armor on the Archers? Given that a full success on the moonbow (6 damage ignoring armor) one-shot them while a partial from star's call (4 damage) put them at half. So another Star's Call should do it (unless it fails, but then nothing would work)?

If we were to order the dogs to back off and give ground, would they still take attacks or could they disengage without much issue (other than, presumably, the guards advancing towards us)?

[X] Target the remaining Archer with Star's Call while ordering the dogs back (full defense)
[X] In case of an attack, dodge.

Something like this, tentatively
Kay based on how things work I'm leaning towards this. 50/75 dodge on the hounds should work well with the +30 to defense.

You can signal the hounds to hit and run, so they'll attack normally and use their dodge reaction to give ground in the same way you might. They would still be attacked. You could call them off altogether, so they'd take a full defence action (+30 to defence) and withdraw, but this still doesn't prevent them being attacked as they draw back.

Initiative is a bit flexible, and is to an extent based on narrative and the degrees of the dice rolls. This is why disengaging still involves a defence roll; it determines how clean and timely your retreat is, and making attacks as you do will always cost you, metaphorically speaking, precious animation/reaction time.

Ordering the dogs back in either way should give you an opening, but if you're not exploiting it this turn, things could get messy again before your next action.

[X] Call off the hounds to your side. Cast Rain of Stars on the spearmen.
[X] Dodge that arrow.

Cool maneuver.

[x] Call off the hounds to your side. Cast Rain of Stars on the spearmen.
[x] Dodge that arrow.

With a piercing whistle, you call the hounds off, then begin to speak words of power, staff upraised; spears stab into the earth as the beasts bound away from the shield wall, and then the night is lit up by the rain of searing stars that answers your summons, pelting the spearmen from above. You see stars burst upon shoulders and padded helmets as they break into a run toward you.

As you complete the incantation, you deftly duck and sidestep, letting an arrow pass harmlessly by. The archer knocks another as both hounds and guards thunder toward your position.

What do you do? Both hounds and spearmen are now at Short range and closing; the spearmen are still bunched up, but the swifter hounds are just out of their reach for now. However, they will all reach your position soon unless you do something.
[ ] Incant Rain of Stars again, trying to hit the spearmen before a general melee ensues.
[ ] Call forth the Moonlight Blade, and prepare to sweep it across the enemy line as they come in reach, swinging high so as to miss the hounds.
[ ] Try to finish off the archer now with Star's Call.

The prewritten tactics are just some obvious ideas, and are not guaranteed to be the best ones. Feel free to build on them.

If we can give our Hounds some quick support, they'll be in better shape to go after the archer once the spearmen are dealt with.

[x] Try to finish off the archer now with Star's Call.

Best to eliminate one threat while we can rather than keep chipping away at a group of enemies.

[X] Call forth the Moonlight Blade, and prepare to sweep it across the enemy line as they come in reach, swinging high so as to miss the hounds.

We've cast Rain of Stars at full, which dealt 4 damage and halved spearmen's health. Even a partial casting of either Rain of Stars or the Moonlight Blade would be enough to finish the whole group off now.

Choosing the blade mostly because I wanna see the effect. The cost is the same, the one disadvantage is that Rain of Stars deals damage even on a miss, while the blade doesn't, but eh, I'll take those odds.
