The Land of the Red Fraction - An Arthurverse Tale - Claims and Discussion Thread

Sidheach as Shogun. My body is ready.

Name: Kikuchi Clan

Current Ruler: Kikuchi Jiro

Expected Heir: Kikuchi Suenaga

Type of Government: Bastard Clan

History:
As all Kyushu clans, the Kikuchi were at the center at the defense effort during the first Mongol invasion of 1274. Kikuchi Takefusa and his sons led their host courageously and made a name for themselves. It was only natural, that Takefusa would rally his forces again seven years later for the second invasion. Unfortunately, this time the japanese defense would not hold. Takefusa and his host were overrun trying to contain the Mongol beachhead. He and his sons died on the beaches of Hataka bay, leaving his infant grandson Jiro as heir of the clan.

When Kumamoto castle fell to the Mongols two weeks later, Jiro became a hostage of the Mongols. He was raised at the invader's court and married to a mongol princess as part of the ongoing effort to tie the local elite to the Yuan. Like his ancestors, Kikuchi Jiro rules Higo province from Kumamoto castle. With the Yuan retreat from Japan, Kikuchi Jiro's ties to the former rulers has suddenly become a liability.

I appreciate the heads up but my relationship with these "Real Life" settings is hit or miss, I've complained about Tolkien and GRRM having appendices to their appendices of key information about the setting but whoever wrote this RL stuff takes the cake.
Fortunately the Mongols kind of swept away any chance of the OT occurring, meaning its basically a bunch of clans of various means involved in a war between the Shogun (Holy Roman Emperor) and the Emperor (Pope). Anything beyond that is pretty much open to people's own thoughts.

I mean, the Oda have popped up on the other side of Japan and we have a bunch of horse nomads living on an island somewhere.

When I say "Clueless" I mean what I know about this era and location is what can be learned from watching Ninja Scroll, Samurai Resurrection and Shinobi: Heart Under Blade.

So...yeeeeaaah. Pretty sure just by posting in the OOC I have retroactively made everyone dumber about this se...

We also need an Emperor and i'm pretty sure past experience has shown i lack the subtlety required to pull that off effectively.

No, Satan, this is a bad idea.

Or is it a great idea and you can't recognize its genius?

You make a compelling argument.

Tell me about this Emperor.
In general terms, you hold an unbroken dynasty (officially speaking) reaching all the way to the first emperor who in turn is descended from the sun. Your head military official, the Shogun claims his authority from your blessing, like the Holy Roman Emperor required the Popes blessing. However seeing that the Shogun was also the most powerful man in Japan and controlled the biggest army, this was rarely an issue..

Then in the 1270s, a butterfly effect caused by some child inheriting a throne in England resulted in a tornado not occurring? Not sure about the details.

But basically the Shogun was defeated by the Mongols, the country occupied and yourself and the Shogun made into puppet rulers till a rebellion occurred to throw out the invaders, finally forcing them out in 1312.

This is all well and good, but it doesn't answer who is in charge, seeing that the Shogun views it as himself, seeing that he was in charge of the rebellion whilst you believe to be you, seeing that your the frigging Emperor. From there, you both went to your powerbases to gather support and prepare for civil war, the Emperor in capital of Kyoto and the Shogun in Kamakura (a port south of soon to be Tokyo) whilst the country went to hell.

Also pirates, monks, barbarians from the northern island and the Date Clan getting involved along the edges.

In L5R terms, you're the Imperial Families vs the Lion. They have the strength, but have made alot of enemies for you to throw at them with promises of future favor.
