The Game of Crusading Thrones, Self-Insert Edition (GoT CK2)

[X] Wait and see. There's something in the woods still, but it seems to be coming to you. Let it. Fit for combat, you have two direwolves, your guards, Brandon, the huntsman, and Frost. You are reasonably confident you will be able to deal with whatever comes.

"What could scare direwolves" is not really a question I felt we needed an answer to, but here we are folks.

It's based off other media. Media which is very popular on this sight.
A magical girl? :V

I dunno, I'm quite new here... Something from Warhammer?

A werewolf? There is one scene where the sun goes down, and the party hears a scream of agony, and a howl afterwards. That could be someone changing into their werewolf form.

Edit:
After this is done, we must speak of the North, your grace." He tells you, and you nod. Frost has clearly seen something
That certainly doesn't sound ominous.

Btw, I gathered together multiple quotes from QM's different posts as clues to the identity of the beast, but they all got deleted. This was my first time using the multi-quote tool and now I utterly despise it.

Well a beak was mentioned in the vision so manticore or griphyon/griffin?
Yeah, but in another quote, there was something about the beast leading people out of the forest by gently bumping them with it's snout in the direction of the exit.

Maybe that was a direwolf trying to help them, I don't know.

Generally it's hard to say which sounds come from the beast and which don't. In one scene, there is an agonising scream and then a howl, and in another there is a monstrous screech.

I'd say that the beast was the direwolves - with the scene being the QM's hint that we shouldn't hunt them (So frost's plan over Brandon's)

I doubt it:
One of the huntsman you sent into the woods running side by side with three enormous wolves, their maws red with blood, their sides and muzzles slashed with vicious wounds
Even wounded and terrified, they are magnificent.
What could do that to a pack of direwolves?

And, if you are not convinced, here is some WoG:
It's based off other media. Media which is very popular on this sight.

Which leaves Magical Girl insanity, Naruto, either star trek or star wars or Warhammer 40k nonsense, and then we go into Necromancy. Necromancy is a very popular tool when granted as an option.

Anyone seen a vampire quest before?
It's obviously a magical girl. I don't even know the source material of that, so to me it really stands out on this site. Wherever I look there is Magical Girl this, Magical Girl that, and those things seem sooo stupid...

Everywhere, or just the quest forums? I'm honestly curious about the answer because I don't pay much attention to forums beyond this questing one on this site.

Vote closed. And I will confirm that it is not a magical girl.

The Wolfswood Hunt Pt. 3
You will hold your ground, you decide. "Steady men, keep your arrows ready but don't fire till I give the word." You command, the two wolves flanking you, teeth bared. You draw your own arrow, the wood of your longbow bending smoothly, the afternoon sunlight gleaming on the razor-sharp arrowhead. For a long moment there is nothing but silence and stillness, and then shapes burst out of the forest, shrieks and growls and howls bursting from their throats, the inhuman sounds making your stomach curdle and a sense of panic rush through you. But you also feel a sense of calm and peace, the same gentle pressure you feel when you enter a godswood.

(Protection of the Old Gods: 1d100+25+10 = 120. Second Roll: 1d100+20 = 92)
(Wild Fury: 1d100+5 = 22)

Frost begins to chant, and it seems like the world slows. The runes on your crown flare briefly, and all the panic and terror fade away. You feel as old as the wind, as immovable as the mountains, as calm as still water. And with calm eyes, you examine the sight before you. There are a dozen creatures of some kind, charging forth. The largest is half again the height of a man, the smallest barely comes up to your knees. All are hideous combinations of beast and man. The one before you has the head of a great eagle, but one eye is quite clearly human. Under its enormous beak is a bloodstained wolf's maw. Somewhere on its muscled torso, long feathers give way to the shaggy fur which covers its backward jointed legs and cruelly clawed limbs. Sharp looking knobs of bone and horn burst forth from its flesh. You feel your lips pull back into something between a serene smile and a savage snarl.

This beast does not know it, but it is already dead. It was dead the moment it slaughtered one of your people. It was dead the moment it dared attack you. A puzzled look comes across its face – you have no idea how it can look puzzled, but it manages – as it sees that you do not flee, and neither do any of your men. You adjust your aim a little, long hours of practice letting you make the million small adjustments without a thought and you let the arrow fly.

(Sung Wood Longbow: 1d100+20+10 = 116. Second Roll: 1d100+ 16 = 72)
(King's Archers: 1d100+10+15 = 114. Second Roll: 1d100+14 = 59)
(Bloody Claws: 1d100+5 = 33)

It streaks through the air, smashing into that all too human eye with enough force to cave in a section of skull, punch its way out of the back of the head, and continue flying off into the trees. The creature opens its beak in a shriek of agony as it stumbles backward, and your second arrow punches right down its throat. It stands for a moment longer, swaying, then it collapses to the ground. You glance left and right, seeing the huntsman and Brandon pouring arrows into their smaller but no less hideous opponents. Though it takes two or three arrows to put one down, your men shoot steadily and without fear. At last the final creature falls dead to the ground. The direwolves howl triumphantly. The world begins to move at its normal pace once more.

You stare at the creatures, your gorge rising, although you quickly suppress it. You are King, you must be steadfast and strong. Especially now. "What are they?" Brandon asks, kicking the corpse of one of the smaller ones with goat horns and cat ears. Frost stares at them. "I don't know." He admits.

There is a long silence, which you decide to break. "I want these corpses hanging from the walls of Winterfell. And I want everything you can find out about these. First of all, I want to know: are there more?"

Oh frack me sideways, Beastmen from Warhammer.
Next thing you know, we'll find out that the reason our continents (north and rest of Westeros) so underpopulated is because we've got a nasty case of Ratmen...

Oh crap..

Well that sure explains all the nasty diseases, mysterious deaths, and the loss of magic (more-more warpstone manthing!!!), and maybe a hint to who's really controlling things in old town (oldest city in westeros - check; tall tower - check; called 'grey rats' - check, Hey wait what!?!)
